I left a 4 star rating when I read this book 4 years ago but didn't write a formal review. I am marking the rating here to move this book off my shelf.

Guess who is back? That's right, Tara Thomas wrote again and it is Janie and Brent in Hidden Fate.
We get to see more of Janie and Brent. And they are hotter than ever.
They are definitely enjoying their self. But they are going to have some complications along the way since there is a killer hunting for Janie. But do not worry cause Brent is determine to find who it is and protect her at all cost.
3 Star

This series is interwsting but definitely not one of my favorites. I think th plot is pretry boring. It has potential but is just not for me. I have read just about all of them though, so there is something there that keeps me reading but I cant quite put my finger on it.

This book was a journey from the get go. I loved every exciting page turning moment. It was the start of a great series.

This is the second Novella in the series and they need to be read in order as this one picks right up where the first one left off. This was a pretty good read and while I did like it and it did hold my interest I have to admit it is not my favorite from this author but that could be just me. If you read and enjoyed the first book give this a go

I received an email to read and review this one. When I accepted it, I didn't realize that it was a novella. I'm not a big fan of novellas because they just aren't long enough. I always feel like the author is rushing to get the book finished and there was too much going on in the short amount of time given.

This book was in Brents POV and it was interesting to see how he handled Janie's situation. He is determined to keep her alive and help her find the killer. This is a fast-paced novella that leads to an even bigger plot. The cliffhanger at the end is huge but was also very well written. I definitely need the next book.

This was full of suspense and a huge relationship growth between Janie and Brent. It may have been too mysterious but I enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend it.

Janie and Brent are in a race against the clock to find out where the threats to her lie. Trying to move forward she takes a step forward with Brent to reclaim her life and leave her past behind. Excellent on the edge of your seat suspense! Loved the feel of continually trying to guess what evil lurked beneath the surface.

3.5 Stars

I'm into the story but not enough to rate it higher. I found some of the things that happened or reasoning behind some of the things that happened a bit unbelievable - even with some explanation. To tell you what that was would be giving away the plot and so I won't do that.

This novella picks up from #.5 and we learn who the killer is (and I was happy to learn my prediction was right).

Overall, these 2 novellas in the series (and actually all three novellas - since I've read the next book already) are worth it. If you love a good thriller/who done it with fade to black sex scenes this book is for you.

*received a copy of this book from publisher on NetGalley for my honest and unbiased opinion/review

I received an arc from Netgalley. I understand a series to tell a story but this seemed to go too fast. This book was not a favorite of
Mine unfortunately.

Thank you St. Martin's Press for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Janie Roberts was fired from her job and was out of her assignment. Her unwavering determination prevails as her investigation continues. She was suspicious on this one character but she needs more evidence to prove that this person was the suspect. The suspect was dumb and he didn't cover his tracks well. No wonder this amateur killer's plans failed. I still don't have a clue who's The Gentleman.

Hidden Fate picks up right where Shattered Fear leaves off with its cliffhanger surprise.

It follows, now couple, Janie and Brent, as they try to keep Janie safe from the person trying to drive up her fear with his chilling gifts and make a grab for her at the bidding of the shadowy man known as The Gentleman.

While the first novella caught my attention and drew me into the plot and the characters (though yes, I had reservations about how Janie was conducting herself as a police officer- they just wouldn’t do what she was easily and quickly doing when it came to Brent and her case), this installment took a nose dive for me. I was still into it because I was very intrigued by the kidnapper- had my suspicions of who this was, but even more so by the villain in the shadows behind him, but the romance and the side of the suspense from Janie and Brent’s actions was disappointing.

I gave Brent and Janie a pass on the instalove in the first installment because it felt more like beginning attraction and lust and made no overt claims to more. This one? Known each other for two weeks and the pair of them are talking moving in together, moving to a new city together and starting a life, and inner thoughts and actions are like a deeply in love and committed pair. Brent, especially has the ‘she’s the one and we will be together always’ behavior then Janie gives his proposals all of one or two days’ thought while she’s on the run from a creepy person and chides herself for why she has to think so hard about riding off into the sunset with Brent. I had whiplash from how quickly this all came together.

And, beyond the lightning fast romance, the way Janie handled the stalker/kidnapper was just all wrong for a police officer. Shoot, Brent acted more intelligent and competent about what she was facing. She goes around ‘I am a police officer hear me roar’ and then falls to pieces at the sight of a bundle of flowers. Her best friend is tough and thinks more like a cop, but Janie thinks like an emotional, needy victim. And that decision in the end to keep going out in public at a picnic in the park where the potential stalker suspect will likely be and all but waving a red flag to her stalker (and not because she was deliberately trying to be bait)? Going off alone? Getting mad at Brent because he tries to talk sense into her to stay home until the stalker can be caught? And so guess what was the cliffie for this installment?

I’ll keep going just to see if I’m right about the stalker-kidnapper and maybe learn more about the Gentleman and get more of Alyssa and Brent’s sister, Bea- just who is she hiding from her brother? But, the rest with Janie and Brent had me muttering badly.

This story is full of mystery, intrigue and a very good plot. As I read all three stories. I found myself feeling attached to the characters and feeling every emotion possible. I have had a long book slump but these books have made me feel like a reader again!

What happens when work and personal life conflict? Give up the lover or find a new job? For Janie, it was a struggle. But is Brent worth it? In this novella, I missed the first one so I had to catch up a little bit. Honestly, I don't think it makes much a difference to have read the first one or not. It was easy to see the results of Janie's choices.

The romance in this story is a bit lackluster for me. I think it is because I didn't care too much for Janie. Whilst Brent seemed interesting, it was hard to see Janie as a previous law enforcement officer. Perhaps because of what happened to her in a book I did not read, it shook Janie enough that she comes across as a helpless female. I would have thought she was tougher.

I did read this prequel before the first novel, Darkest Nights. I would recommend reading the Darkest Night first and then coming back to read about Janie. I think I would have appreciated it better. Because if I had to go on just this novella, I would have probably not continued on. Primarily, because this story felt half baked. The problem with splitting up a story into three "acts" is that it leaves a reader feeling as if it is unfinished. Fortunately, these three came out around the same time so perhaps if I read all three, one right after another, it would have been better.

Tara Thomas has written another intriguing suspense romance that ah die on the edge of my seat all the through the story. The story picked up where the last story left off and this story has left me wanting more of these characters. I can't wait to read more of this series.

This novella picked up right where Shattered Fear left off. Hidden Fate by Tara Thomas is 0.6 in the "Sons of Broad" series. Someone is stalking Janie Roberts. An ex-cop, she is terrified by the gifts that someone is leaving in her home. While she is having this happen to her, her relationship with Brent is progressing with huge quickness. This book doesn't end their story it picks up again in the next book installment. The intrigue and suspense levels is insane and has you waiting for the third installment.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****
“I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."

A good quick read full of suspense, thrill, and romance. This book picks up where "Shattered Fear" leaves off. They're still in search of a killer but it seems the killer has set his sights on Janie. Of course, just when it was getting really exciting......a cliffhanger! I'm looking forward to reading the next novel in this series.
