Bring Me Back was another success by one of my favourite new authors. This book had me guessing, second guessing and convinced I had it figured out more than once, only to be proven wrong and kept on the edge of my seat. |
Bring Me Back had me flipping from one chapter to the next eagerly wanting to read what happened next and the ending took me totally by surprise! 12 years ago, Finn and her girlfriend, Layla, stop at a rest stop. He goes to the bathroom and when he returns to their car, he finds it empty, with no Layla in sight. In present day, Finn is now engaged to Layla's sister, Ellen (what?!). One day, Finn comes home to find Ellen sitting with a Russian doll that previously Layla owned. What happened to Layla that night? Was Finn telling the truth? And if she is alive, what does Layla want from him? The book goes back and forth between Finn in present day and Finn 12 years ago, from the day that he first met Layla. You can never fully truth Finn and I was constantly doubting him and hating him. I loved the ending of the novel since it really threw me through a loop. I didn't see it coming at all! |
I just finished this book a few hours ago and it is hard for me to write this review. I will start by making clear that I LOVE B.A. Paris. "The Breakdown" was the first book I read by her and it was good, then I went for "Behind closed dooor" and it was really, really good! Like, maybe my favourite book of the year. So my expectations with "Bring me back" were very hight. I wasn't disappointed, it is a book I am happy to have read and I would maybe recommed it to the right kind of reader, but it's not as good as the previous ones. I had two major problems with it, to start with the writing style was more linear and the characterization not as deep as it was in the previous books, but that was counterbalanced by the fact that it was such a page-turner that I couldn't stop reading even while doing other chores! The other thing that didn't convince me is about the ending so I can't tell it without spoilers. I will just say that there is some suspension of disbelief involved but I could manage with it. The problem is that the book is a little dark and sad, and if you are waiting for a diabolic and satisfying ending like in "Behind closed doors" you won't find it here. The ending made me feel sad, and I still am sad after some hours had passed! Anyway if you are in the mood for a melancholy thriller this is a very quick read that will probably stay with you for a long time. It's deliciously creepy, and the natural setting was very well done and very fitting. I will still be eager to read anything B.A. Paris will write next! |
Buckle your seat belts because this is one heck of a ride! 5 stars and I would give more if I could! I loved Behind Closed Doors and The Breakdown, so I couldn’t wait to read Bring Me Back. It definitely didn’t disappoint. In fact it exceeded all of my expectations! I was totally convinced I had it all figured out and it would be a predictable ending. But B.A. Paris does a great job of leaving both real and fake hints. You won’t even realize what the real hints are, but you will grasp onto every fake hint as B.A. Paris leads your right into her trap. Then you find out you are TOTALLY wrong and you will NEVER see the end with this one coming! B.A. Paris really showed her skills as a brilliant writer with this book and not very many authors would be able to pull of what she has. The story itself kept me hooked and I loved the varying viewpoints in the narrative. There is a very creepy use of Russian dolls in the book and I will never be able to look at a Russian doll the same again! This is going to be the best thriller of 2018 hands down. Absolute MUST READ. This is one of those books you finish and immediately want to go back and start reading again! Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and netgalley for the arc! |
Phew! That was a whirlwind. B. A. Paris has done it again! Every book I’m lucky enough to read of hers, has so many twists and turns that my head is on backwards. I kept thinking I knew what was going on, and who was in on it, and I was always wrong. Then when I finally knew The Who, I was completely blown away with the how and why! Please keep on writing, and I will keep on reading your books! I’m so glad that Net Galley picked me to read this early and review. I will begin pushing , I mean, recommending this book immediately. |
This was my first B.A Paris novel, and really had no expectations. So my opinion is unbiased. There were a few moments towards the end, I felt were a bit cheesy. But the overall storytelling and experience was a good one. |
Great read if you love a good mystery without scooby doo. I would fully recomend this to others. Great plot. |
Wow! I have very rarely been unable to put a book down but Bring Me Back is one of the special ones. From beginning to end, B.A. Paris kept me wanting to read on to the next page, the next chapter...... I liked that there was a limited number of characters and felt they were all relevant. Each chapter being written by one of the main characters brought in various perspectives and kept me guessing where the twist was going to come. And what a twist it is! A well written, enjoyable book which I recommend you read. You will not be disappointed. I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in return for an honest, impartial review. Thank you. |
I didn’t have as much enthusiasm for this book as some other reviewers. It does start out strong. The premise is that twelve years ago, Finn’s girlfriend went missing at a rest stop on their way from a trip to Paris back to England. Now that he’s engaged to be married to someone else, suddenly there are clues that maybe his ex-girlfriend wasn’t kidnapped/murdered as Finn and the cops initially thought. There’s all sorts of page-turning suspense for the first half of the book. You don’t know who to believe, which of course is what makes this kind of book fun. Then, for me, the middle got dull, and the ending was a good twist, but I didn’t buy the execution of how it was revealed, and I can’t tell you why lest I ruin the surprise. Thanks so much to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel, which RELEASES JUNE 19, 2018. |
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. Finn and Layla are on vacation in France, when Layla mysteriously disappears at a rest area. It has taken Finn years to move on, but finally he has formed a relationship with Ellen, Layla's sister-in fact they have decided to get married. So is it just pre wedding jitters when Finn starts finding items around the house that could only remind him of Layla? Or is it something more sinister? B. A. Paris keeps the suspense coming in this novel! I enjoyed all the twist and trying to figure out what was coming next. I would have given the story five stars if I were a little more invested in the characters, but because I wanted to keep reading, I gave it four stars. |
I had high hopes for this one as I loved the authors first book. While I found myself compelled to keep turning the pages with this one, I didn’t care very much for the characters. The author does a good job of creating suspense, but I figured out some stuff early on but kept reading to see if I would be correct in my assumptions. Bring Me Back would be perfect for those new to the genre, but I’ve read so many now that it takes a huge effort for me to love them anymore. Good effort, and it kept me reading but just not great! |
If you have read anything by B.A. Paris you'll know she's fast becoming the go-to for suspense and thriller novels about relationships and marriages with secrets and just a few lies. "Bring Me Back" is no exception. I would add this terrific book to your To-Read pile today and look forward to another twisted tale of mystery. Finn McQuaid is trying to start his life over after that fateful day years ago when after pausing at a rest stop, his girlfriend/fiancee Layla went missing. That fateful day passed over Finn as a suspect, but there are secrets that everyone's hiding and when someone starts playing a game with Finn by leaving objects that have a significance to Layla, the past starts coming back for Finn in ways that could leave the quiet life he's tried to keep in shambles. Another winner from B.A. Paris who just knows exactly what readers in the genre are looking for and presents a new story with just enough emotional punch to leave the reader breathless after the final page. You won't want to miss the fresh "twist" in this book, quite a revelation. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for early access to this title due June 19th, 2018. |

BRING ME BACK is the latest thriller from B.A. Paris. I loved her previous novels, so I was really excited when I got approved for this one. Finn and Layla are a young couple on a road trip in France. At a bathroom rest stop, he goes in and comes back to find her missing. After searching everywhere, he gets the police involved. She is never found. 12 years later, Finn has moved on, and is engaged to Ellen...Layla's sister. After the engagement announcement hits the papers, someone leaves something at their house...something that only Layla would have knowledge of. Could it be that she's making contact after all of this time? This was a great, suspenseful novel that kept me wanting to read more. The questions keep building, leading to what I thought would be a huge climax. I honestly felt a little let down by the ending. It just wasn't what I expected, and wasn't sure how much I believed it. Still, it's a good book to add to the psychological thriller collection, and it's a very fast-paced read. Thanks to HQ, B.A. Paris and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. |
I’ve read B.A Paris’s previous two novels, so I went into this knowing things weren’t going to be as they seemed. That being said, This novel still took my breath away. I don’t want to give too much away, and I will expand on this review once the book is published. What I can say is this might be my favorite book by Paris. (And I LOVED Behind closed doors and the breakdown) . I love how Paris’s writing style has evolved and right off the bat in this one, I liked the characters and really wasn’t too sure where I was going. What I really REALLY liked was the strange coincidence that as soon as I thought I figured out the twist the very next page nixed that idea. It was almost like Paris was anticipating the readers thoughts throughout the book. Great read! Paris once again does not disappoint! Thanks so much to Netgalley for a ARC copy of the book. |

Sometimes you just need one of these books to take your mind off things. This is a clever well-written mystery that you want to finish preferably in one go. I did figure it out about halfway through, but it didn't make a difference because you still want to know the why. I certainly don't think everyone would figure it out either. The plot is good and the characters are well developed, so it makes for a few hours of great entertainment. If you have a few days off, this is an exciting read. |
3.5 stars. I was hanging out to read Bring Me Back for a while and was so excited to receive an ARC. It was a really enjoyable story that I finished in a weekend. If I had one criticism it would be that the characters could have been a little more complex. Nevertheless it was a fast paced, gripping book. B A Paris is clearly a talented writer and I look forward to reading more! Thanks kindly to Netgalley, publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book. |
This was a fast paced thrill ride. From the onset you are brought into a mystery. What happened to Layla? Is she alive or dead? What really happened? Does Finn know the truth? Is he lying to himself? Does he just not remember? I could not put this book down. I was hooked from beginning to end. I was unsure whether or not to trust Finn but finally felt he was reliable. Ellen was so sweet and good you couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I highly recommend this book to everyone!! I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. Thank you so much for such a fantastic book. |
I absolutely love B A Paris and knew when I started reading this book that there would be. A twist that I never saw coming. Oh my goodness, I wasn’t disappointed! I planned to go to sleep over an hour ago, butbinjustbeanted to finish one more page!! Fantastic, thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book before it’s general release.? |

This book is by far the best book that B.A. Paris has written. Her first was also amazing, but not quite the puzzle this one entangled readers in. And the second very well written, but too predictable for thriller fans. So, while I was excited to try this one, because even if predictable Paris always gives readers something that is well written and great to read,I got the shock of a lifetime! The reason being is Paris made sure to entangle the reader of this book and immerse them in a web, which you can't untangle from, but also don't want too! You will be flipping through the pages of this roller coaster of a book all while holding your breathe and know this author is here to write some of the best psychological thrillers there is to offer to the readers of suspense! Preorder today, you won't regret! |
