Diane Chamberlain is one of my absolute favourite authors. I was ecstatic when I was approved for this book! This is a first for Diane Chamberlain..a different type of story but yet the same kind all at once. I don't want to give too much away. The story is fantastic! The blurb on the book was perfect. I must admit that I only skimmed it. I purposely did not want to hear too much (as I'd heard rattles throughout the book community already.) I automatically read anything by Diane Chamberlain. I'm glad I was so delightfully surprised! The year is 1970 and Caroline (Carly) is pregnant and so very sad. She has recently lost her husband in a horrific way. She is now living with her beloved sister and brother-in-law. But something may not be right with the baby. Her brother-in-law proposes a solution. But could it be a miracle or the most ludicrous insane thing ever? This book is packed with a lot of deep, meaningful emotions throughout the whole story. It's the same type of classic Diane Chamberlain but with a new twist to her story. Her writing is on par as usual. I could not put this down! I so highly recommend it! |
A time traveling page-turner about how far one woman will go to save her unborn baby. This is now my new favorite book by Diane Chamberlain. Having a special needs son, I know I would do anything possible to get him the best care possible. I instantly fell in love with the main character, Carly, and how she put her "job" as a mother and what was best for her child above anything else. By far one of my favorite reads this year! |

WOW!! I've just finished The Dream Daughter and my mind is still reeling, as are all the emotions possible. I've been lucky to have read some amazing books by some amazing authors but this just might possibly have knocked them all out of the park. Each book is different, each story is different, our place in time is different too as we read each one. This is the type of book I think will be next to impossible to forget, that will be constantly popping up when trying to read something else. I have trouble stringing words together enough to write a review so a tale like this one just increases my admiration for an author the caliber of Diane Chamberlain. This is the second book of hers that I've read and I have to admit that I always wondered at the comment made by other reviewers... "It IS a Diane Chamberlain". I think I need to add that to my book vocabulary now. Still, all I can say is WOW!! Thanks to St. Martin's Press, through NetGalley and to Ms. Chamberlain for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
I really enjoyed this book. I don't typically read science fiction but this one grabbed me from the very beginning. I highly recommend it! |
I have loved other books by this author, and this one, just like the others, does not disappoint. I lost sleep, because I didn't want to put the book down! Definitely a great page turner. Highly recommend! |
I read this book cover to cover in ONE day! I was sucked in on the first page and couldn’t put it down. I’ve read every single one of Diane Chamberlain’s books and this is now my favorite one! |
Diane Chamberlain's books are always a treasure to read and this one is no exception to that truth! This is a beautifully written magical story of a mother's love and the entire book was a pleasure. I hated for it to end. In 1970 Carly Sears has discovered the baby girl she is carrying has a fatal heart defect that cannot be fixed. Her brother-in-law, a physicist, tells her it can be fixed - but in 2001. There is a fetal surgery that could possibly save the baby. Carly braves the unimaginable unknown on a quest to save her child and fix the heart defect before she is born. Kudos Diane Chamberlain! I loved this book and, even though I couldn't put it down, I read it slowly to savor every morsel. Thanks to Diane Chamberlain and St. Martin's Press through Netgalley for an advance copy. Truly an enjoyable experience. |
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for review. This was my first book about time travel. I have been tempted to read this authors other time travel bo0ks a few times over the years but never got around to it. I think maybe I should take the time. I enjoyed this book especially since it is far different than my usual interests. It was a nice change. I like to mix it up often because I get tired of reading the same genre all the time. |
I’m not a usual fan of time travel with a few exceptions but this was so much more! I’ve never read a book by Ms. Chamberlain but I certainly will be adding her books to my TBR list. This book is really about a mother and the choices she will make to ensure that her baby will survive first of all and also to have a healthy and happy life. The book’s prologue starts in 1965 when Caroline Grant, a PT, meets Hunter Poole in a hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (a place I have visited and loved! ). None of the other physical therapists in the department want to work with him, he has been uncooperative and pretty much non-verbal. Caroline is shocked when the patient actually pointed to her and stated “You! I want to work with you”, “I didn’t mean to scare you, I’ll do whatever you say, he added, I promise”. “You remind me of someone I knew briefly . . . .it feels good to see you”. With this start we are launched into the story. As you know from the blurb Hunter is a time traveler and has landed in 1965 from the future. He and Caroline along with her husband Joe and Caroline’s sister Patti, form a close bond and the next we read of them is in 1970. Caroline is pregnant and has just learned that her husband has died in Vietnam. Hunter is now married to Caroline’s sister Patti and they have a one year old child. When Caroline’s baby is found by the “new” science of ultrasound to have a seriously defective heart condition that will prove fatal either in utero or after she is born, Hunter has the idea to send her into the future to have the baby’s heart repaired while she is still in the wound. Not only is this fact difficult for Caroline to grasp but Hunter has to prove that he is actually from the future, not an easy feat. He also has to assure her that she and her baby will be able to come back to 1970. The novel moves through the present and future and back seamlessly. I was very captivated by the story and finished it in two sittings. What I loved about this book is that the characters were well developed and I really grew to care about Caroline. As the mother of four daughters I know that I would have done exactly what Caroline did, anything that would help my baby survive. The other characters are also well described. The atmosphere in New York City in 2001 compared to 1970 is described in such a way that I could visualize the crowded streets and commuters with ear buds in their ears and seeming to be talking to themselves when of course they were talking into their cell phones, something completely alien to Christine. There are some warm hearted and funny parts of the story also. When Caroline is on bed rest in New York City and has to find a way to eat and rest, the doorman, housekeeper and owner of a deli down the street do all that they can to help this first time mother with no friends or family to care for her. Her decisions throughout the story are for the welfare of her daughter and I felt a lot of compassion for her as a mother, great character development here. You have to be willing to suspend some belief when reading about the time travel but it has a sort of “Back to the Future” feel to it where you really get to know these characters well. I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. |

Carly has lost her husband in Vietnam and discovered she is pregnant. Her baby girl has a heart condition not compatible with life. Carly will do anything to save the last piece of her husband she has. Her brother-in-law tells her an incredible story. He is actually from the future and he wants to send her there where there is technology that could save her daughters life. I am not normally a fan of time travel but this one is told so well I have become a convert. This is the story about a Mother’s love and the incredible sacrifices she will make to save her daughter. It is a heartwarming story that will keep you captivated. There are a couple of twists in the story, one I anticipated. The other came completely out of the blue. The ending is perfect. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy. |
I loved this book!! Oh my goodness. It was emotionally charged and touching. I could not put it down. So what if time travel is a fantasy? It was a great escape for me. Well done Ms. Chamberlain. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion. |

I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review So you have to be careful for what you wish for. I wanted this one because I was under the impression that this woman wrote thrillers. This is not a thriller sentimental women’s fiction about time travel. I said what I said. I don’t even know if I could truly rate it, As time travel and sentimentality are two of my least favorite tropes, I’ll just give it a three to give it something because it was absolute hell for me to read but I also recognize I was not the right audience, and those of you who actually read the blurb might like it. |

I don't want to give away what the book is about, but suffice it to say that this book is very different from Diane Chamberlain's other books. I loved them all, but I loved this one the most. Okay, I'll tell you a little. It was about a woman's love for her unborn child, and that love is so strong that she is willing to do anything to give that child an opportunity to live. And I do mean... anything. It's a fun read, and I loved how well the author kept everything straight. Overall, though, it's a heart-filled story about a mother's love. I cried at the ending. Yes, it pulled on my heart strings, but really I was crying because it was over and I wouldn't have any more pages to read. It was one of my favorite books in a long time, and I'm grateful to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read it. |
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC of another amazing book of Chamberlain’s! She has become one of my favorite authors, but this was one of her best! I didn’t want to put it down which hasn’t happened in a long time cause sleep usually wins these days lol. I highly suggest this book to ANYONE !! |
Wow! I loved everything about this book. A story of time travel, family bonds, and mother daughter devotion told in a flowing, impossible-to-put down way. I highly recommend it. Thank you NetGalley and Ninjas for the early edition read, all opinions are my own. |
WOW.....what an amazing book. Diane Chamberlain has done a terrific job of “time traveling “us between 1970 (Vietnam War time), 2001 (Months before 9/11) and 2013 ( Summit, NJ -with current technology advancements). The characters are engaging and the time transitions between 1970; 2001 and 2013 are seamless. This is a well written book, in which the heroine will stop at nothing to save her “Dream Daughter”, including time travel and experimental fetal surgery. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. I have now added Diane Chamberlain to my “must read list”. Pick up The Dream Daughter - you won’t be disappointed! |

iane Chamberlain does it once again. I don't know how she manages to come up with these stories. This is a story one a mother's love that knows no bounds. It was a love that would do anything to save her child. I have never before been a fan of books that involved time-travel but Diane Chamberlain has changed all of that. This is a beautifully written story that I could not put down. I read it in less than 2 1/2 days because I had to know what happened to this family. I received an ARC from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
I really enjoyed this book! Carly Sears has lost her husband in the Vietnam war and her unborn daughter is diagnosed with a heart condition. Carly would do anything to save her daughter and the love of her family is deep. The story moves around from 1970 to 2001 and 2013. The characters are relatable and easy to build a connection with. It is truly an emotional read and a wonderful story of a mother's love. |
This is my first book by this author and it will definitely not be my last! This book had all the feels! Carly is working as a therapist in 1970, when she meets her future brother in law at a rehabilitation center! Carly and her husband Joe and Hunter and Patti are the closest of friends. When Joe dies in the War , Carly finds out she’s pregnant and that her baby has a serious heart defect , that unfortunately can’t be fixed in 1970, the technology hasn’t been discovered ... yet! Hunter has to make a choice, it could save Carly’s unborn child but just may cost him everything else! This book is told from Carly’s and Hunter’s Points of view, alternating between 1970, 2001 and 2013 The Changes and the history is beautifully written and I couldn’t put this book down Fans of Diane Chamberlain will love this book and first timers like me will find a new author to binge read! |

I have never been happier to read a first impression, because of my curiosity about that and the cover I got to read one of the best books of this year for me. The Dream Daughter is truly an amazing the story; the characters and the tension that gives you reading about Carly and her journey to give her unborn daughter a chance to live. After Carly loses her husband, she finds out she is pregnant, and this baby is the only link she will have with her love. Until one day, she finds out something might be wrong with her pregnancy and she is devastated, Hunter, that weird guy she met a few years ago, will propose her something that will give her hope to have her daughter. When Hunter tells Carly the truth about how he got into their lives and proposes a plan to save her unborn baby, Carly is mad and confused, but at this point she would do anything for her baby and this last link she has with Joe. I loved the story, the characters and the writing, you get to live and feels Carly’s desperation to have her baby with her. It won’t be easy, but her daughter is the most important person for her, until she gets a news that will shake her world. This is a completely different read than I normally read, I like romance and this one has cero of that but I have cero regret of reading this one. |
