Nick Wyeth, Viscount Stirling rescues a maid who he thought was on a runaway horse to only find a feisty Scottish maid who mistakes him for a stable lad. He steals a kiss and he thinks she is just a maid too, but soon learns his mistake when he returns to the house where Isobel is staying. He’s disappointed to say the least, he’s instantly attracted to Isobel and is disappointed she’s not the simply the maid he first thought she was. Isobel wants nothing to do with London and high society and Nick wants nothing but to call this wild Scottish lass his own and sets out to make her his own. A truly awesome story of two strong willed characters who eventually realize they’re perfect for each other. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review. |
I really, really needed a light fun read, and that's exactly what I got with What a Highlander's Got to Do by Sabrina York. I have a weakness for Scottish men and women, especially in historical romance, and so when my brain needed an escape, I reached for this one. I jumped into the series at book #5 (this can be read completely as a stand-alone, by the way), and now I have to go back and read all of the previous books in the series because I'm in love with this feisty family! The story is certainly an example of a strong woman/beta male historical romance, which is something I'm liking more and more. The main couple had intense chemistry, and I could not get enough of them together. I even fell for all of the side characters, something that doesn't happen very often. I actually started reading this book at about 11:00 pm and stayed up all night to finish until about 3:00 am. The story was fun and made me smile, something I've been sorely needing. My only quibble was that the female MC bothered me a bit with her reluctance to see what was right in front of her face towards the end, and I sort of wanted to shake her to wake her up to what a perfect guy the male MC was (in and out of a kilt!). However, I do love a woman who can defend herself, so I let my issues go a bit. If you are in the mood for a low-angst, fun, light historical romance with some kilts, some brogues, and a highlander lass who knows how to use a bow and arrow, then pick up What a Highlander's Got to Do. It was just what I needed. *Copy provided in exchange for an honest review* |
I like Sabrina York's books but for some reason this one main female character, Isobel, got on my nerves. The plot is ok but her personality gets annoying. |

This is romantic, steamy, amusing and entertaining. Nick is charming, insecure and romantic. Isobel is stubborn, headstrong and snarky. Nick and Isobel are in lust with each other. But when it turns from lust to love for Nick, Isobel doesn't feel the same. She doesn't want to marry, and especially not to an English lord, who will own her and take her from Scotland. Fortunately for Nick he has some relatives who jump in to help him. There are some very funny moments, some not so funny moments, some eye opening moments and some dramatic moments that leave you with a lot of sympathy for Nick. The supporting characters are all fascinating, I hope that they all get their own stories. I recommend adding this to your TBR list. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it. |
It's been a while since I've gotten my hands on a one night book, but this one was so incredibly lovely that I couldn't put it down. Sabrina York captured my total attention with Nick and Isobel's story. Her writing really is incomparable from the charming characters to the witty dialogue and madcap highjinks. Isobel was the same engaging girl from her parents book .... which just so happened to be my first Sabrina York book. Needless to say that the mischieveous child grew into a lovely heroine .... but still as stubborn as ever. Nick was adorable, sweet and handsome. He was the perfect hero and had a wonderful sense of humor, as well. These two were great together but their path to happiness ever after got a little bit rocky along the way. I was so pleased with Isobel's book. I loved their journey and meeting every one of the new characters and catching up with my favorites from previous books, as well. Now, I'm seriously looking forward to the next book from Sabrina York. |
I am rating this 3.5 rounded up to a 4 because I’m assuming (fervently hoping) that all of the errors in titles and forms of address will be fixed before publication. The book is rife with them – as an example, the wife of a Viscount is not a countess. This is not the author’s first book written in this period, so I just have to believe that those errors will be fixed before publication. I have been looking forward to this book to see what Isobel would be getting up to next, but I just couldn’t get myself to really like her or to be invested in her character. What were cute antics in a five-year-old were just annoying and childish in an adult – and I didn’t really think she had matured very much. She seemed very selfish and didn’t seem to care that the actions she took hurt other people very deeply. I thought Catriona would have been a much better heroine. She was just as strong and fierce as Isobel, but she was also loving and open to trying new things and new people. I LOVED Nick! He was definitely a keeper! I absolutely loved how Isobel and Nick met. It was priceless and their time together at Newcastle was wonderful. I loved how they got to know each other and each mistook the other for a servant. They came to care for each other without knowing titles, status, etc. The book is filled with humor and you’ll find many moments where you’ll find yourself smiling – if not laughing. The hellions are priceless. I also loved how Isobel, her entire family and Nick’s family dealt with Celia and her mother. I have ALWAYS wanted to see that happen. I would have really liked to see Nick deal with Celia’s brother for what he said to her at the ball (or was it a party). I would have liked it had the Epilogue been just another chapter and that there was an Epilogue that took place at some point in the future when there is a baby and a gathering. Maybe even with one child three or four years old and just as wild as she was and another baby on the way. The story was fast paced and never boring – even though the heroine was annoying. I really failed to figure out exactly what she was so afraid of because the reason she gave was much too modern for that time period and I just couldn’t buy it. It is a good read and I will really be looking forward to reading Catriona’s story. Sexy and hot story with intriguing new characters and enjoyable old characters from the author’s previous books makes this book a joy to read. The only complaint I have is with the heroine’s character. I adored the hero and felt like the heroine was only interested in him for a fling. It broke my heart to read on how the hero agonized over it. But other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the story and recommend reading it. This can be read as a standalone book but some loving characters from the author’s previous books do make a comeback in this story. * I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review* |
3.5* Mistaken identity and secret trysts starts a man on the chase of a lifetime and a women on a path of realization and hopefully love. Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach is my favorite character in this series. She was such a little spitfire from the beginning. One of the best child characters of any book I’ve read and I’ve been waiting for her book for what felt like forever. I knew that her love interest would have to be strong and smart and kind and with a spin of steal and love her for the person she is. Nick Wyeth, Lord Stirling was just that man. Neither one every wanted to marry. Isobel feared she would loose herself and freedom if married and Nick found the ladies of the ton as selfish and petty and didn’t want to leash himself to any one until, Isobel. Nick knew he’d have to prove himself to Isobel he just didn’t know how many road blocks she would build along the way. Fear is one of the strongest feelings and misunderstanding of what Isobel truly feared almost put an end to the future she truly wanted. This was an enjoyable book with witty banter and great chemistry between Isobel and Nick. I also enjoyed the secondary characters new and from the past books of the series. |
Another simply great story by Ms. York. Never fails to delight and this one is a winner. I really liked Isobel. She was daring and interesting. Nick was such a solid character that I liked him from the start. Overall I couldn't stop reading. |
I liked Nick and Isobel’s story. This is a fast-paced historical read with plenty of drama, thanks to Isobel and great chemistry. The story is fun and entertaining, I liked the characters although Isobel did get a bit annoying. A good read. |
Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach, a feisty Scottish lass is off to London for her dreaded Season, dubbed as a hoyden, she revelled in it. She has decided that marriage, especially to an Englishman, is a no-no. Her independence is paramount. She met a gorgeous stable hand (so she thinks) in Newcastle who saves her from a fatal accident and asked for a kiss as a reward. Nicholas Wyeth, Viscount Stirling, found the Scots maid (so he thinks) irresistibly attractive. An instant mutual interest was stamped with an earth-shattering kiss (and our h/h carry on with their clandestine meetings for more kisses)! Then Isobel left without so much as a by your leave. Well as fate would have it, they meet again in London. They get to know each other in sedate speed. Isobel has prejudices against the English. When reality dawned that Nick is an English Lord, she resisted his friendship. But Nick's mother is a Scotswoman too who was treated with less respect than her English counterpart, whilst living in London, so he emphatises with Isobel. Nick and Isobel engages in easy banter. They share bone-melting kisses. They are mutually attracted and affectionate with each other and they are equally sensual! I just didn't understand why Nick and Isobel have both missed (several times, in fact) the glaring obvious, that they are not, what they assumed they were, that is, stable lad and Scots maid! Sabrina York writes sexy hero and heroine so well. The characters' teasing wordplays are so witty. I voluntarily read an eGalley from the publisher. This is my honest and impartial review. |
I just love how well written this story is, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough Isobel and Nick were quite charming and I loved seeing Isobel's defences coming down I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own opinion |
What a Highlander's Got To Do by Sabrina York Untamed Highlanders #5 Looking for an easy to read simple romance that is rather predictable? Want a feisty female heroine? Want a Lord to marry the heroine? Want a horse chase and save? Want push-pull with both H&h undecided? This might be the book for you. That said…I really liked the previous books in this series but felt this one needed more…more about why Isobel was so leery…why Nick was the way he was…why Celia and her mom go away with what they did…so many times…The story was wrapped up in a bow by the end but it was not my favorite book by this author. That said…I will read her next book to see if I like it better. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 2-3 Stars |

Book 5 of the untamed highlander series by Sabrina York sees us with the story of Isobel, wild child, independent, string and knows what she wants and Nick, viscount Sterling, half Scots and knows what he wants but getting what he wants might be a problem. Isobel is on her way to London when she meets a man whom she thinks is a stable lad and she steals a kiss from him not thinking she will ever meet him again. He was intact Viscount Sterling or Nick and if it was ever leaked that he and Isobel kissed then he would have to marry her and she doesn't want that. In fact she doesn't want to marry an Englishman although Nick is half Scots and wears a kilt. Can Nick show Isobel exactly where she needs to be and with who or is she to string willed to be trained? I had a laugh at some of the things the family said and done especially when it came to Isobel "She blew up a castle" "She was only 5 years old" " But I've hardly blown anything up since" Isobel lol Above still and me chuckling now. Although in haven't read many historical romance books and I tend to stock to romances, I did love this book and I went on to buy the first 4 books to get up to speed with the series and the characters. I can't wait for the next books to come. I voluntarily reviewed this book as an advanced reader copy from Netgalley. |
Isobel is a feisty Scottish lass who is of a marriageable age. The problem is that she refuses to travel to England for the "season." She is determined to NEVER marry but, what's the harm in having a little fun with an English stable lad? Problem is that, once Isobel gets to England, she realizes that her 'stable lad' is Viscount Nicholas, son of an English Duke! The horror!!! So he's half Scot = Who cares? She will NEVER MARRY!!! She will NEVER bow to ANY MAN!!! The big problem with that is Nick is just as determined to have Isobel as his wife!!! Let the games begin!!! |
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy. I was only planning on reading a chapter before I did some errands, and could not put the book down! I ended up reading it to the end and never did get anything else done! Poor Nick, he finally is ready to settle down with a woman that he loves and she doesn't want marriage and plans on living in Scotland alone. I think if you have read any of the previous highlander books that you will especially love the grown up Isobel. While I have only read one of the previous books, I was able to read this as a stand alone but always love reading about previous characters in a series. Isobel is such a fun strong woman and how can you not love Nick?? So glad that Isobel finally realized that marriage was not going to be a prison sentence and she could actually be happy being married. I hope Catriona will be next book and that we hear more about Isobel and Nick, and their baby! |
Mistaken identity often turns out delightful. Such is that case with Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach, meets a stable hand ( or so she thinks) who saves her from a terrible accident. Nick Wyeth, Viscount Stirling is enchanted when he meets her and there is definitely a strong spark of attraction between the two. Of course there will be nothing easy between Isobel, who is a very independent, feisty Scottish lass and Nick, an English lord determined to have her. Meeting in secret and still having not knowing each others identity, they part when Isobel goes to London with her family. Well as fate would have it they meet again in London and each finds out the others true identity. This is a delightful story that enchants with the banter back and forth between the two. But Isobel wants to be back in Scotland and have her freedom and Nick just wants her for himself. A light read with some drama and a lot of emotions that overall was enjoyable. |

You know you are in for an exceptional reading experience when you start a new book and you realize as you read the first chapter you are totally captivated by the author’s storyline and totally drawn to its main characters of Edward (Nick) Wyeth, Viscount Stirling a swoon worthy patient and sometimes frustrated hero and Isobel Lochlannach a strong willed and independent Scottish lass who is very opinionated when it came to her feelings about English Lords, love and marriage. One of my all-time favorite genres to read is Scottish Highlander Regency Romances. In my opinion this novel is an example of Scottish Romance at its Best! This story had it all, impeccable writing, strong multi- dimensional characters that are believable and endearing, a plot with substance that is masterfully written and keeps the reader interested in how it will end as well as twists, turns and an epilogue that enhances the plot. It has all the elements of a really good romance with just the right amount of emotion, drama and wit. Many people purchase a book by storyline for that reason I don’t do detailed storyline spoilers. I feel it is unfair to the author to describe the book in detail when writing is their livelihood. In my personal opinion, this story is an outstanding read that I highly recommend. I received an advanced readers copy from the Publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion. It was a pleasure to read and review this book. |

I was given An ARC of this book through NetGalley and the publishers for an honest review. What a Highlander's Got To Do by Sabrina York is the is the fifth instalment of the Untamed Highlanders series. I love a Highlander Romance and Sabrina York does not disappoint. This book is about Isobel Dounreay and Nick Wyeth and how they meet on the way to London. Isobel decides to sneak a kiss with Nick who she thinks works in the stables but who is really an English Viscount. Because of this kiss they may may need to marry. Isobel does not want to marry and Nick is sure Isobel is the one he wants to marry. A really enjoyable page turner and Nick was a great Hero. I recommend this book and give it 5 stars. |

Well, I don’t get to say this very often, my fellow Scottish romance book loving friends. This time around the heroine was the one slow to come to her senses and reluctant to recognize love when it is right in front of her. So caught up in her empty headed mantra “I’ll never marry an Englishman” she seems ready to walk away from a perfect for her half Scottish gent, even after he’s jumped through hoops and is willing to do anything to keep her. At 70%, it was a punch to the gut and Nick’s heart, as well as my own, to hear Isobel profess she still wasn’t in this for love, only to continue their brief fling before she goes back to Scotland alone. With those words, I was pretty much done with her and this storyline. Prejudice doesn’t look good on anyone, folks, and that is exactly what Isobel was when it came to English men. Self absorbed and only focusing on what she wanted with little to no regard to how her actions and empty promises affected others had me disliking her. Poor Nick became so love sick he was willing to change his world completely and become whoever she wanted him to be (even if it meant changing how he dressed and spoke). Basically do the exact opposite what the heroine was willing to do for love. She refused to change anything about herself. He was willing to change everything. At 80%, her stupidity put her and Nick in a deadly situation. Sure, now she’s finally seen the light, but, honestly, I feel Nick deserved better than what she put him through. Having enjoyed all four previous books, this one is definitely my least favorite of the series. Title: What a Highlander’s Got to Do, Series: Untamed Highlanders (Book 5), Author: Sabrina York, Pages: 243, stand-alone but part of a series, some very steamy scenes, OW wants him, no OM drama, no cheating, no love triangle. Book 1 - Hannah and the Highlander Book 2 - Susana and the Scot Book 3 - Lana and the Laird Book 4 - The Highland is All That Book 5 - What a Highlander’s Got to Do (I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/NetGalley.) |
