This book was delightful from start to finish! Isobel is such a refreshing character and I loved her friend Catriona! And Nick “be still my heart.” I need to find a man like that. Definitely a wonderful and enchanting read. |
What a Highlander's Got To Do by Sabrina York is book Five in the "Untamed Highlanders" series. This is the story of Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach and Nick Wyeth, Viscount Stirling. I have read (and Loved!) the other books in this series but feel this can easily be a standalone book. Isobel is a Scottish Lass with great family connections but is known as a hoyden, savage among other things by the English. Isobel prefers Scotland but is staying with Lady Willouby in Newcastle until her family returns. Once they do they are headed to attend the English Season which Isobel isn't looking forward too. Isobel family thinks to find husband's for to find a husband for Isobel and Catriona. While at Lady Willouby she happens to meet Nick while out riding. Isobel assumes he is a stable hand by the way he is dress and they banner back and forth. Nick thinks too she is just a maid but soon learns when he returns to the house who she is and where Isobel is staying. Nick is attracted to her and is somewhat disappointed the Isobel isn't a maid that he can play with...but it doesn't stop him from wanting to see her. Isobel family shows up to get her before she can make contact with Nick to let him know that she won't be seeing him. When Nick learns she is gone he heads after her not yet wanting to give her up even though he has only met her once. This was such a great story! I am never ever disappointed in Ms. York's writing. Just loved this book ! |
What a Highlander's Got to Do, was my first book by Sabrina York and I loved it! I am so glad I got this book from Netgalley, (on a whim because the cover was sexy) because I fell in love with the Untamed Highlanders world. This was the 5th book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I fell so in love with all of Isobel and Nick's family that I will be going back and reading all their books as well. Sabrina York's writing style was amazing. She really brought the characters to life. Nick was absolutely scrumptious. He was sexy, sweet, playful, and protective. He loved Isobel just as she was. He fell hard for her and he pursued her like the 1/2 Scottish beast he was. Isobel was very likable. Headstrong, stubborn, wild and independent to the point of reckless at times, Isobel made laugh, smile and want to shake some sense into her in equal measures. Nick and Isobel had combustible passion. They made a really cute couple, and I was totally invested in their relationship. This book was a 5 star read for me, until Isobel did something stupid and made me want to rip my hair out. I could overlook it for the most part because she was so likable, but it dimmed my enjoyment of this book a tad. Still this was a good 4 star read for me. There was so much Scottish fun in this book. Cute wild Scottish children, sexy Scottish men and Sweet loving couples. I laughed and smiled a lot while reading. I fell in love with not only the main couple but the secondary characters as well. Sabrina York has a new fangirl. Now I have to go buy the secondary character's books so I can enjoy all their stories too! |
Maybe 3.5 (assuming the title errors/formal address are fixed by publication) I was really looking forward to this book, I have enjoyed Isobel's antics from the beginning of the series when she was a little girl and I was excited to see her all grown up. I guess it's true - be careful what you wish for - what I found cute and precocious in a six year old child, I found to be vastly annoying in a young woman. She is still just as bratty and impetuous now as she was then, she still thinks she knows better than anyone else and that her ideas and wishes are paramount. Isobel is staying with a family friend in Newcastle while the rest of her family is attending Aunt Esmerelda, once they return they will all be going to London for the season - to find a husband for Isobel and Catriona - a plan that Isobel doesn't agree with nor one she plans to follow. While out riding she meets a man and assumes he is a stable boy, they talk and flirt and share a kiss. Isobel makes plans to see him again the next day. Edward Nicholas Wyeth, Viscount Stirling aka Nick is not a stable boy and he is captivated by the wild Scottish girl he just met, he plans his seduction, thinking she is a maid. Later he learns he might be wrong and she might actually be a well born lady, but he keeps his rendezvous with her anyway. They talk and he is sure she is a maid but then discovers she is a virgin and his honor won't let him despoil her - but Isobel wants to be despoiled! When they meet again she is bound and determined to be had - and takes matters into her own hands. They make love and it is earth shattering and they plan to meet as often as they can before she leaves. She returns back to the house and is dismayed that her family has arrived, she has no way to tell Nick that she is leaving but it was never going to be anything more than a fleeting affair, its not like they were in love or anything... So why is she still thinking about him days later and thinking that she sees him in the park? Nick realizes that the family left for London and takes off after them - happy to leave considering his host's sister is "hunting" him and even tried to compromise him into marrying her. He arrives in London and has no idea how to find her and knows he will have to ask his mother for help. That is when he learns that his Isobel is not a maid and that his mother has met her and wants Nick to meet her. Perfect! Later that night they meet at a ball, but Isobel still thinks he is a stable boy and has snuck into the ball, they go out to the terrace and after a kiss, she asks him what he is doing there and tries to get him to leave, when someone calls him, she is worried he has been caught, but soon realizes that his is not a stable boy but a Lord - an ENGLISH Lord - she is miffed and leaves with his friend Tully, leaving Nick alone with Lady Celia - the girl that is "hunting" him. Nick needs to speak to Isobel, but she ignores him and leaves the ball. She is angry, he lied to her! But Cat points out that he never lied and Isobel is not being fair. Isobel admits that he didn't lie, but she is still angry. They meet again at a house party given by his mother and form a truce of sorts, he wants her and believes that he may be falling in love, but Isobel just wants an affair. When they ended up betrothed, he is elated and it seems like she is too - but he soon learns the truth - she is happy because it means they can have an affair and then she can dump him when she is ready to go back to Scotland. Nick is intent on winning Isobel and plans to woo her and win her. For the next couple of months everything goes well, but Isobel still refuses to marry him and when she learns something that could change everything - she bolts. Leaving Nick to decide if he should still fight for her or finally let her go. While the story was non-stop and very amusing, I failed to truly understand what exactly Isobel was afraid of - losing herself? I have a hard time with this mindset in this era - there is no such thing as an independent woman, especially an unmarried woman of no fortune. Isobel came across as very selfish, ignorant and a bit TSTL. She wasn't mean and she understood her actions would hurt people, but it didn't stop her from doing them anyway and for that I lost what little respect I had for her. Nick was wonderful and I loved him as well as the other Edwards and his twin cousins. The story had a lot of steamy love scenes, more than one villain, some laugh out loud funny moments and a very sweet HEA. On the downside, Isobel is annoying and there are more formal address and title errors in this book than any other book I have ever read - I was shocked, Ms. York is not a HR newbie, so I can only hope these are fixed before this book publishes. This is the fifth book in the series, but it is set much later and could absolutely be read as a stand alone title. While this wasn't my favorite in the series, I would recommend it and look forward to reading Cat's story. |

That was a fun highlander romance! Every so often I need my fix of a good Scottish highlander romance and this one didn't disappoint. I really liked Nick even though he was only half Scottish! Isobel did get on my nerves a bit but she was a head strong Scottish lass who was determined not to marry, especially not an English Lord like Nick. They way they met and had a fling while knowing nothing about the other besides their passion was fun and sure to lead to some interesting misunderstandings in the future. Which it certainly did. This was an entertaining read with lots of humour and steam and just a little angst. The banter between Nick and Isobel and also the rest of their families was lots of fun. ARC generously provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. |
Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach is a fierce and independent Scots lass. She has no intention to marry & definitely not an Englishman. Whilst staying in Newcastle she meets a devilish stable lad whilst out riding, she can’t help but sneak a kiss with the handsome stranger, sure to never see him again. Edward Nick Wyeth is not a stable lad. He’s Viscount Stirling, and heir to one of the most powerful dukes in the realm. If their indiscretion is discovered, Isobel will be forced to marry him, to succumb to a fate she has always spurned. Nick wants nothing but to call this wild Scottish lass his own, and is determined to show her how an English Viscount can make her swoon, and be his forever. A very enjoyable read & quite a change for the heroine to be determined not to marry. The characters were well fleshed & likeable. The story was well paced & kept my interest throughout, I did feel the ending was rushed & would have also liked an epilogue. I did wonder why Nick as heir to a Duke was only a Viscount & why a special marriage licence wasn’t procured after their confession. However if a special licence had been used then a crucial part of the story would have been missing. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read |
I thoroughly loved this book. I kept saying to myself, “Didn’t I read this already?” then the next page “No not this book”. Halfway through the book I realized why I “Knew” some of the characters and the “Holes in the books in the Library” why that was confusing me. In a good way. This was the next story in a series of family. I loved the others and didn’t put the connection together till halfway in the book. This just made me enjoy it more. It is a standalone but I loved the connection to the characters I already knew and loved. |
This is one of the best books i have read this year. The characters Nick and Isobel will have you laughing out loud by the way they interact with each other. Nick is a dreaded englishman whi!e Isobel is 100% Scot. While her parents are making her have a season in London to find a husband , Isobel is dead set on not marrying any man especially an Englishman. Then she meets Nick and the chemistry between them is explosive. This is a wonderful read an i highly recommend it to anyone who loves to laugh!! I received this book from Netgally for an honest review. |
Very good story. Isobel and Nick are cute together, although it is a very rocky start to a relationship. I liked that Nick did not give up and finally managed to win over Isobel. |
I am giving a fair and honest review for this ARC. You cannot go wrong with any book by Sabrina York. And i do so enjoy stories of braw Scots! This book does not disappoint! Such a well written story. Loved the characters and personalities. I think you would enjoy it too. |
This is a new book-#5 in the Untamed Highlanders Series, and in this book we get to see Isobel, Susannah's daughter going to her first season, and if you have kept up with this series, she is the wild one! It was a great read. While staying with friends of her family on the way to England, Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach decides to go out one day and ride, not wanting to meet any of the judgmental women of the ton. While out riding she runs into who she thinks is a devilish stable boy and they wind up kissing, which leads to meeting the next day! Passion ignites, however what Isobel doesn't realize is the man she has been seeing is actually none other than Nick Wyeth. He’s Viscount Stirling, heir to one of the most powerful Dukes in the realm. Nick finds out who she is, and follows her to London as he is enamored of Isobel. When they do meet again Isobel is so mad! She accuses Nick of lying! She also tells him that she never wants to marry an English anything! However, Nick is half Scot! He has no problem wooing her in his kilt, and he does have a Scottish accent! And well, although a confirmed bachelor, he is willing to change his tune. Reading this book I laughed so much at some of the high jinx the whole family gets into. It's not easy dragging the whole clan to England, and their Aunt Esmeralda is with them! There are 10 kids too, that go with them. They all want to be like Isobel-wild and carefree. Read this book and see how Nick and Isobel wind up and if they can work out their differences! I have enjoyed reading this whole series and highly suggest you read all of this series, it's awesome to read about all of the characters in each book! I gave this book 5*****stars and can't wait for the next one! here are the other books in this series: Hannah and the Highlander Susana and the Scot Lana and the Laird The Highlander is all that |
A book worthy of wild child Isobel Dounreay Lochlannah! Yay Sabrina gave us her story and gave us a Hero worthy of that determined, independent free spirit of a child we met in her Aunt Hannah and Mother Susannah's books #1 & #2. I have to say, Isobel stole any scene she was in as a child. She was such a force and this book gives us her hero who loves her just the way she is. Perfection! Edward Nicholas Wyeth, Viscount Stirling, heir to the Duke of Moncrieff is "Nick" to his friends and when they want to tease him they call him "Edward The Third" as there are so many proliferating in the family and friend circle. He likes to escape his title occasionally and just go for a ride on his horse and be an everyday man. Out on one of these jaunts he stumbles on Isobel riding a stallion at breakneck speed toward a washed out bridge she can't see. He "rescues" her and she's fighting mad since she had the horse under control being an excellent horsewoman. She was working off a temper in her favorite way. She's on her way for her first Season in London and the Marriage Mart she doesn't want. She made up her mind ages ago she wasn't marriage material. Edward has always remained unentangled not wanting to be tied down to a woman. There is instant attraction and Isobel decides to find out what passion is all about since she'll never marry and she's never felt attraction for anyone before. Neither one knows who the other is. She thinks him a stable hand and he figures she's someone Scot maid. How very WRONG they are. They meet again in London and sparks fly as Isobel feels lied to and Nick just wants her and knows no one that compares with her. I loved how Nick tries to problem solve into Isobel's heart and Isobel is so true to her character all through the book. I wondered how Sabrina would change her mind about marriage since she's so stubborn but she did a great job. I adored everything about this story but then I have always been captured by the heart Sabrina pours into her stories. Thank you St. Martin's Press and Sabrina York for granting me a NetGalley ARC for my honest review. |
This book has bonnie lass, Isobel, in lust (or is it love?) with a gorgeous stable hand who is actually an English Viscount, Nick. (Isobel is the hellion, 5 year old from book #2 in this series, Susana and The Scot) Nick doesn’t get to set her straight until they meet in London for the Season. Nick is in love with Isobel but Isobel has a deep prejudice against Englishmen and especially English Lords. Her attraction to Nick doesn’t wane when she finds out his station but she is determined not to marry him. If you are looking for dialog that runs the gamut from eloquent to witty to sexy, if you like sexual tension that makes your own heart pound and if you want a darn good plot, this is the book for you. It is a standalone book but characters from previous books in the series do play important roles in this book. Did I mention that there are laugh-out-loud moments, sexy times, as well as some adventure. You can’t go wrong if you like those handsome Highlanders, Scots, English Lords and smart conniving Mamas as well as a feisty heroine. I highly recommend this book as well as this most entertaining series. Untamed Highlanders Series: Hannah and The Highlander (Deet’s review Sept. 2015- 4.5 stars) Susana and The Scot (Deet’s review, January 2016-4.5 stars) Lana And The Laird (Deet’s review June 2016- 4 stars) The Highlander is all that (somehow I missed reading this one) What A Highlander’s Got To Do (today’s review) |
Sabrina York's books are always delightful and steamy and this one didn't disappoint. I loved the insane chemistry between Isobel and Nick. The game of cat and mouse between them really added to the sexual tension. I really liked that Nick new what he wanted and didn't try to deny his feelings but embrac He them. But what I loved most about this book were all the characters we've come to love from Sabrina's other books and series coming together in this book. It was like a huge family reunion, so entertaining and funny. It added a levity to the book that was very refreshing. A beautiful love story with the right amount of drama and a hint of suspense! I loved Isobel and Nick's story!! I fell in love with Isobel during her mother and father's story, Susana and the Scot, so I was excited to see that York had written her story. Nick and Isobel meet while in the country and neither knows who the other one is, which causes some issues down the line. They quickly give into their passions but are then separated. When they meet up again, they learn each other true identity. Nick couldn't be happier as he wants Isobel as his wife. Isobel on the other hand, doesn't want to get married as she thinks she will lose her independence. But she has fallen in love with Nick, so what is a girl to do?? I was disappoint with the last book in the series, but am happy to say that this book was one of my favorites of the series! |
Slowly but surely Sabrina York becoming one of my favorite historical romance authors. She just knows how to create a gripping and thoroughly entertaining book. I wasn't disappointed with this one too. The main character Isobel was a force to be reckoned with. She was smart, witty, independent and knew how to protect herself. She never search for a man to be her guardian or the one who will own her like some kind of the property. Of course, she had some flaws, but who doesn't? Also, I like how Sabrina York creates her male characters. All of them, are respectful towards females, even though they are portrayed as alfa-men. So, I do recommend reading this or any other of Sabrina's books, they are worth a shot. |
Publisher's Description: Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach is a fierce and independent Scots lass. She has no intention to marry—to submit to a man—especially not an Englishman. But when she meets a devilish stable lad on the way to London, she can’t help but sneak a kiss with the handsome stranger, sure to never see him again. Nick Wyeth is not a stable lad. He’s Viscount Stirling, and heir to one of the most powerful dukes in the realm. If their indiscretion is discovered, Isobel will be forced to marry him, to succumb to a fate she has always spurned. Nick wants nothing but to call this wild Scottish lass his own, and is determined to show her how an English Viscount can make her swoon, and be his forever in What a Highlander’s Got To Do by New York Times bestselling author Sabrina York. My Thoughts: This book is a page turner. I couldn't put it down! It is a laugh a minute, even in times of danger. So funny and well written that I completed it on just two sittings. When Isobel meets Nick she mistakes him for a stable boy. He is after all dressed like one rather than the nobleman he is. He is drawn to the feisty young woman in spite of his wish to never wed. Isobel also intends to remain unwed, but after meeting Nick will she change her mind? I loved this book! Even if you have never before read a Sabrina York title, start with this well written, historical romantic comedy. I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5.0 flames. Our hero and heroine anticipate their vows with the usual results. I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily. |
The story starts out with 2 people meeting in a park and a lot of misunderstandings. She thinks he is a farm hand and he thinks she is a maid. They both could not be more mistaken. There is an instant spark and they find each other incredibly attractive. Isobel is a strong-minded Scot and Nick is an Englishman, which is a bad thing to Isobel, with a Scottish mother. They both have crazy families that try to help/piss them off. A good read, but I wanted to strangle both of them for being bloody minded. Isobel especially drove me crazy because she had set her mind and nothing was going to change it. A family chart/tree would have been helpful. |
I have been waiting for Isobel Dounreay Lochlannach to grow up and have her own HEA. She stole many scenes in her mother and aunts’ books. I’m not sure her grandfather appreciated her arrows in his library books. Now grown, her mother has decided she needs a London season. Isobel disagrees, but at least her best friend, Catriona, is going to London also. Isobel is staying with a family friend, Lady Willouby, in Newcastle until her family arrives. She can’t stay cooped up in the house while Lady Willouby has neighbors for tea, so she convinces the stable boy to tack up a stallion. As she’s galloping along, a man chases and pulls her off her horse. She is furious, but he shows her she was headed to the river with no bridge due to extensive flooding. The man was dressed as if he worked in a stable not a highwayman, and he wants a kiss as a reward. As she leaves, she says I might be here tomorrow. They meet for several days, but then she leaves for London without being able to say good-bye. Nick, Viscount Stirling, returns to London for the season never expecting to see her again, but his sister tells him about her new Scottish friend Isobel and he is thrilled. Isobel does not want an English lord, even if he is half Scot and she’s angry with him for not telling her. The ups and downs to their HEA are such fun to read. I love this book and can highly recommend it. |
Sabrina York is a wonderful writer, but her books are usually hit or miss for me. This one was, unfortunately, a miss. I thought it moved way too quickly in the beginning, when the two main characters had sex after just meeting each other. It was insta-lust, and it put a damper on the relationship for me. I don't mind characters hopping into bed quickly in contemporary romance, but I prefer a more tempered romance in historical. It seemed out of place to me for the time period, with very little build-up before sex. I also didn't care for how the hero was fine "deflowering" her when she was a maid, but once he realizes she's a peer, he all of a sudden thinks she's too good for a quick roll in the hay. It just showed a lack of respect for women that, while I know it was the norm back then, was a turnoff for me when seen in the hero of a story. |
