Initially, I was a bit put off by the whole "5 different stories going on at one time" set, but I was genuinely surprised by how captivating the book was.
The plot was interesting, relatable and full of really well-thought-out ideas and characters.
The only thing that I was somewhat annoyed by was the fact that one character would mention something and then a different character would reiterate the exact same thing. I guess it's part of the whole reading five different stories at one time.

Absolutely adored this book! Each sister dealt with real problems and the stories didn’t seem far fetched or stilted. A glorious, real read that addresses so many issues today’s teens face. Each sister had her own voice and was easily distinguishable!

The Garrett Girls have one last summer together before Bea heads off to college and breaks the clan up. Each of the sisters is going through a challenging time and their stories are told throughout the book. This is a good light summer read for those looking for a contemporary teen novel.

I gave this book 4 stars. If you want to read a good coming of age book, this is for you. If you want to be happy at the end of a book, this one is for you. If you are a teenage girl trying to figure out where to go from there, this book is for you.

I’ve never read Little Women, but I feel like this is what it would have felt like with the four sisters who are all completely different. I loved how they all had names from Shakespeare plays, Desdemona, Beatrice, Katharina, and Viola. I think it would be so cool to have cohesive names like that.

I loved how each of the sisters was going through a different and realistic struggle. Des was trying to get out of the box because she was tired of people thinking she was boring. Bea is afraid of going along with the plan she’s had for the past 3 years because that’s no longer what she wants. Kat has a lot of self-esteem issues and thinks she can change her cheating ex. and Viola has a crush on the girl next door and is terrified her feelings won’t be reciprocated.

This book is around 300 pages, but it reads so quickly. Despite the characters going through some heavy things, the novel is actually really light. It’s a very Summery contemporary.

What I love is that this book is going to be released just in time for the Summer. This will be the perfect book to read on the beach.

Interesting read, great for a mindless beach read. The storyline revolves around 4 sisters and their relationships both within and outside the family. After the loss of their parents the girls are raised by their grandmother. Each girl has taken on a specific persona and role within the family relationship... a la Little Women. In fact, within the story, to show parallels there is reference to one of the daughters trying out for the play Little Women and getting a top role. While not the most original or sophisticated plot line, there are a few twist and turns thrown in. It is an interesting read that kept me engaged throughout.

4 STARS

The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls was a light summer read that provides a tale of 4 sisters trying to navigate their last summer together. Each sister is going through something different and the story follows each one of them as they let go of the past and find themselves and new love.

I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a nice summer read. The Garrett girls will keep you on your toes!

I liked the concept of this book better than the execution. The four sisters in the book provide a good variety of personalities and interests, but I wasn't overly invested in any one storyline.

All the Garrett girls have something going on in their lives, something personal, but none of them feel like they can share it with each other or their grandmother. Bea doesn't want to go to college with her forever boyfriend, in fact she is pretty sure that she doesn't even want to be with him anymore. Des is stuck in a rut of taking care of everything and everyone but herself; when she meets a girl not much older than her with a free spirit and seemingly not a care Des wants to be like her. Kat is trying to make her ex jealous with a person she has known forever but maybe them acting like a couple is something she would like to try for real. Vi is crushing on a girl but she isn't sure the girl returns her feelings (or even knows she exists).
A touching novel of all theses girls trying to find what makes them happy, what makes them feel good about themselves...I loved it!
