Flash point by Derek Thompson.
Thomas bladen works in the ssu surveillance support unit. He works with Karl Ann and Christine. When Christine goes missing others are called in from other regions.  They all work together to try and find out what happened to her. Plus other things happen to Thomas too. Like losing his gun when he isn't supposed to be carrying one.
A fantastic read with brilliant characters.  Thomas was my favourite character. This book really had me hooked. 4*.

Not a bad thriller but not one of the best! Did struggle to finish it though
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Quite a merry tale, but given that it was the first of this series I had read, it felt as though I had missed out on the characters backstories and backgrounds a little too much, which was frustrating.

There is no doubt that the claims of fast-paced action are certainly accurate in relation to this thriller. Sadly, for me, the same could not be said in terms of the fluency of the narrative; some characters appear with minimal explanation and on a couple of occasions, where multiple characters are involved in key action scenes, the use of personal pronouns is so muddled that some passages have to be read several times to unpick who the author had in mind when he refers to he, his and him in a seemingly random way. Some of these gripes are probably a consequence of reading this novel without the benefit of reading others in the same series that could have filled in the blanks, but authors with more consideration for the readers don't make too many assumptions about prior knowledge. Despite these plot and writing weaknesses I enjoyed the yarn and found some flashes of effective narrative, but there would have been a better book in here, if greater care had been taken.

Flash Point is a well crafted thriller with a super plot. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this author’s work. My first book in this series. I recommend to fans of a good thriller.

This is the first book of Derek's I have read and I can honestly say it won't be the last as I loved the way the book was written and the way all the characters and locations within the story were described really well.

The book deals with a terrorist attack in London, and the security services way of dealing with the aftermath, along with two missing bosses of the main character.

Thomas Bladen is the main character in question and he is an undercover surveillance agent and is the main person responsible for finding his bosses, with everyone trying to stop him from finding them.

Along with this the book is set just after the terror attacks so he has to also deal with the heightened security levels, and Thomas has personal issues which he needs to deal with.  He also has to work out who he can trust as there appears to be a mole within his department stopping him from succeeding in his missions.

Overall the book is full of intrigue and mystery, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Thomas Bladen works for the security service unit which now seems to have been taken over by MI5 and hard to tell who he is working for from day to day. His co-worker, Karl and Thomas run a little business off the books that sometimes gets them into a lot of trouble. Then He also has a problem balancing old girl friends with present at times. Christine, their boss has gone missing. One minute they see her and the next she is no where to be found. Can the two of them keep their job going by day, do the evening jobs and find Christine when they find a dead end at every turn? Then who is working for what agency or maybe for the bad guys? Too many questions and not enough answers.

This is an entertaining and gripping espionage thriller from Derek Thompson featuring the spy Thomas Bladon. The book opens with a gruesome and dreadful terror event that sends shockwaves into the security services. Undercover spy, Bladon, finds that the department he works for is being subsumed by MI5 and a surveillance operation results in the loss of his firearm. He begins to question and wonder about the people he works with, after two senior individuals vanish. Every foray made to find out what happened is blocked and obstacles placed in his path. Bladon enters darkj, disturbing and dangerous territory as he goes in search of answers.. A novel I enjoyed reading!
