This was a wonderful read! Set in beautiful Colorado, this book was filled with great characters and an interesting plot. The characters were very well-written and very believable. The plot was not at all predictable; I found myself wondering what was going to happen next at several points during reading.

This was the first book I've read by Rebecca Jepson, and I'd welcome the chance to read another. Excellent writing!

This is a wonderful historical romance.

The main characters: Millie, John, Katherine, and Stephen are all very well developed. There is a lot of variety in their personalities and traits that come through very clearly over the course of this story. I enjoyed seeing how they interacted with each other and how their relationships changed as the story progressed.

The plot of this book was great. It kept my interest though at a few times I felt frustrated with the characters and wished they would just be honest with each other so that things could move along a little quicker.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.

Another great “My Heart Belongs in…” book. This one is based on a nurse in the late 1800s who is given quite a responsibility. She has faced trauma in her life and now she wants to help others as they face what is coming for them. She was hired by her former beau’s family and there are so many twists and turns involved in that whole thing that it just kept me reading. I was very much surprised by some of the outcomes and didn’t really think some of the things coming would happen. I just love that in a book. I look forward to reading more by this author and reading the next “My Heart Belongs in…” book.

Millie Cooper is the heroine of this wonderful story and with every chapter I admired her more and more for her strength and fortitude even when she’s put in a situation where all of her accomplishments will mean nothing to the family who shunned her when she needed them the most. Millie is quite reluctant to take the nursing position in the Drexel mansion because of their past cruelty toward her. But after much thought the weight of her conscience far outweighs her misgivings, even when the Drexel family matriarch treats her harshly and never fails to put her in her place. Because of the life lessons she has learned from Doctor Murphy and his daughter Millie sees to her patients and the family even when she’s brokenhearted by what she thinks is John Drexel’s unwarranted judgement of her. At the lowest point of this story Millie’s faith and her medical knowledge will falter but God’s teachings and His mercy will bless this household in ways they could never have imagined. Rebecca Jepson has written a heartwarming story of courage and hope with humanly flawed characters whose lives are made infinitely better by Millie’s example and the Spirit who shines through Millie’s heart. I highly recommend this book’s uplifting message for Christian and historical romance fans of all ages. I read a copy of this book courtesy of Barbour Publishing through Net Galley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

This is my first book from Rebecca Jepson and I loved it!
The plot of the story was complex and filled with drama, but very engaging. Millie, a fisherman's daugther, was left heartbroken and she thinks it was Stephen's older brother -John- the one who caused them to never marry. Now, she has started anew and is a professional nurse, and John comes to her requesting her help in assisting her ailing mother and Stephen's wife who is in the last months of her pregnancy. Can Millie overcome her past hurts and care and serve this family? What if unexpected love gets in the way as well? Can they overcome all the obstacles thrown their way?
I'll just say it's an emotional story filled with drama, compassion, intrigue, but sweetness and faith as well.
I liked the characters, especially Millie, she was kind and caring, and she trusted God to show her the way around the difficulties in her life. John was a great character as well. I learned things from them. It was inspirational and uplifting.
I highly recommend this book to historical lovers! It has depth and a great message. And the plot will keep you reading until the end!

My Heart Belongs In Glenwood Springs Colorado has a wild beginning. it starts out with the following words, "It was his voice." That is exactly how it started - now you may ask who was he? Well that is something worth your while to find out. You read that and you go - uh oh - what is wrong? What did he do? What is it all about his voice that she recognized? I know but do you? Who is it? When the book was over I couldn't believe it because I wanted more - so much more. This author knows what she is doing by pulling you into the book - no - that's not it - she actually has the Characters fly off the pages and meet you - they engage with you. It is an incredible storyline and the Characters make it that way. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

I am reviewing a copy of My Heart Belongs in Greenwood Springs Colorado through Barbour Publishing and Netgalley:
This book will take us back to Glenwood Springs Colorado 1888:
Millie Cooper was a fisherman's daughter turned nurse who flees a painful entanglement with her near her family home in Nantucket unfortunately six years after she first flees she runs into them again six years later in Glenwood Springs. The serenity of her mountain hideaway in a town with healing springs is disrupted when she has to care for the elderly Mother as well as the pregnant wife of Stephen Drexel, the man who she once loved, at the request of his brother John, the man who kept them apart.
Will Millie be able to forgive the wrongs that she felt were done to her? Will she be able to let go of the pain of her past?
I give My Heart Belongs to Glenwood Springs five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!

Part of the reason I chose MY HEART BELONGS IN GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO was the setting, as I lived in the Centennial State for six years. I know how gorgeous the area is and credit the author, Rebecca Jepson, with gracefully using location to encircle the story’s heart.

This lovely historical romance, set in 1888, is part of the popular My Heart Belongs Series. Protagonist Millie Cooper was once engaged to the Drexel family’s wealthy scion, whose older brother intervened to kept them apart. She’s forced to move away and does so to peaceful Colorado. But to her dismay, the family relocates there six years later. That’s bad enough, but this time she’s asked to provide nursing care for the pregnant wife and the snooty mother of the man she’d once loved—by the brother who broke them apart. Themes of faith, forgiveness and reconciliation leavened with romance create a deeply satisfying read. 5/5

Grateful to Barbour Publishing, Inc. and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine.

I am really enjoying this series, and I always love finding a new author to read. Having lived in Colorado as a child I remember going to Glenwood Springs for all kinds of events. I enjoyed learning more of the history of the town.

The author did a great job tackling tough topics and the romance wasn't typical of most historical romances. It is a great story of family, friendship, and redemption.

I highly recommend this book to any historical romance fan.

I've had my ups and downs with the My Heart Belongs... series, and I am happy to say that this book makes it into the "Up" category! This was also my first exposure to this author, and I hope it won't be the last!

I was actually surprised by this book! I thought I wouldn't like it, but I really did! I loved how flawed the characters were, they were so much more realistic to me because of that! I related the most with Millie, who was hard-working and dedicated, as well as loving. I loved watching her heart soften toward the family that stood in the way of her happiness. The faith aspect in this story was actually really well done, woven in with a subtle, and yet realistic touch. This is a story that would go far to help the uncertain among the faith with their struggles!

On the whole, I really enjoyed this story and would definitely read more by this author!

I have really enjoyed the other stories in the “My Heart Belongs” series and this one did not disappoint either. Rebecca Jepson did a great job of luring my heart in so that I felt all the emotions of the characters. This story revolves around Millie, a poor fisherman’s daughter who once loved and planned to marry Stephen Drexel, a wealthy man who vacationed on her island home. When Stephen’s brother John finds her one evening to tell her that they can’t marry because Stephen must do what is best for the family, Millie is heartbroken. She journeys to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where she trains as a nurse with Dr. Murphy and becomes friends with his daughter Ann. When John Drexel arrives at the doctor’s office looking for a nurse for his mother and sister-in-law, Millie finds herself face to face with her past. How will she ever work for the family that she once thought she would be a part of and how can she possibly treat Stephen’s new wife??
Following the Lord’s guidance, she accepts the position, although she is reluctant to take up the task. She moves into the Drexel home and finds that old prejudices still abound and hurts lie in every corner. But maybe, with God’s help, she can find true love where she never expected it. When tragedy strikes the Drexel family, she must work with John to help in any way she can. Will the two of them find what they didn’t know they needed?
This book was really good. I loved the message for readers about God’s blessings and how He brings joy to our lives here on earth. If you enjoy romantic historical fiction with a good message, then this story is for you! I received a free E-book of this story from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I have read almost all of the My Heart Belongs series and while I enjoyed all of them this one has been my favorite one so far. I really love the fact that each one features a different city and we learn about the beauty of it and what it's unique for. Glenwood Springs has beautiful healing springs. When she was little more than a young woman Millie Cooper was set to marry Stephen Drexel but his brother put a stop to it. Feeling wronged this fisherman's daughter who grew up dirt poor and has now become a nurse is summoned by this brother to care for his elderly mother and Stephen's expectant wife. Can she do this, after all this is the woman who made her feel as if she was never good enough for her family and also the woman who is now Stephan's wife. When you're a nurse, professionalism must win out over any petty thoughts. Millie works hard to guard her heart but she's not perfect and I love seeing her real life struggles and how she calls on God in her times of need. The character's are very well developed. This is the author's debut book and it's on my keeper shelf as the story is worth reading again.

Millie has been working as a nurse alongside Dr. Murphy for 5 years in Colorado, but when she sees a familiar face from the past talking with Dr. Murphy, she knows that her past has caught up to her. Millie grew up in Nantucket, the daughter of a poor fisherman, she was a happy and outgoing child who befriended the Drexel children, as they grew up she and Stephen Drexel became especially close, but she was beneath his station so she left him and Nantucket behind.

Millie is initially insulted by Stephen's offer of a job taking care of his asthmatic mother and pregnant sister, but when his mother has an attack in the middle of the night she feels compelled to take the job.

Millie is strong and woman of her word, she perseveres, despite Mrs. Drexel treating her horribly, Stephen's wife is the only one who seems to appreciate her help, despite visiting their house being awkward. Millie is a good friend, and is industrious as she helps Mrs. Drexel to eliminate triggers.

This book is has a quick hook and poignant backstory, but I feel that the flow got bogged down in the middle. I liked Millie for her determination, faith, and compassion. I didn't know what to think of John Drexel, he wasn't very present, and seemed to make assumptions about Millie, despite them only having limited interactions. But things did comes together for a very dramatic ending.

My Heart Belongs in Glenwood Springs, Colorado by Rebecca Jepson

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Story Notes

Rebecca Jepson delivers a quiet story of healing and forgiveness in the picturesque town of Glenwood Springs that readers will find delightful.

Having not read Ms. Jepson’s earlier short story works I was interested to see how this new author would develop this well used plot in a new way. I’m pleased to say she did well although I would have put more page time into the evolution of the romance between the two main characters. Ms. Jepson begins her story with a young nurse named Millie Cooper who is enjoying her work alongside Dr. Murphy and his daughter Ann in the healing waters town of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She has had no time for romance and is loath to think of it given her heartbreak from six years earlier. But when the man who destroyed her dreams of marriage comes suddenly into her life again to beg her help with his mother, Millie will have to set aside her hurt and bitterness to be the nurse that God has called her to be. John Drexel has taken care of his family for years, doing whatever necessary to ensure they are provided with everything they need. It nearly broke him to tell Millie that his brother, Stephen, couldn’t possibly marry her but as his reasons for doing so involved others’ secrets he couldn’t tell her the truth of why they couldn’t be together. And as God has a way of doing, John is face to face with Millie once again, hoping she will agree to help his mother deal with the sudden onset of asthma. Millie still has not forgiven John for keeping her and Stephen apart in the past and is hard pressed to agree to work with the Drexel family, possibly coming in contact with Stephen daily. But as she begins her work, she will find small comforts in the care of her unexpected second patient, Stephen’s wife Florence, who is due to have a baby in a few months. Millie will need every kind word that Florence has to offer as she faces Katherine Drexel, her asthmatic and extremely critical main patient but will eventually find a way to love Katherine to a semi-friendship. But she is still carrying a bitterness and resentment in her heart that will have to be released if she is to have a chance at real, lasting love with another. John has admired Millie for years and would love to have a chance to show her he is not the cruel snob she believes him to be. As he works to ensure that his family and his business are both flourishing, Millie begins to see a kinder side of John that she was unaware of before now. And when tragedy strikes, it will take all of the strength and kindness they both posses to make it through the toughest days. But each challenge they face brings them closer together and gives the promise of a new love in the coming days. That is, until a former love threatens to tear them apart. Millie will have to make a tough decision of whether to embrace an old love that was safe or a new love that promises to bring her all her hearts deepest desires. I gave this story a lower rating that I usually would because I found the story to be good but not overly excellent. The lesson of letting go of bitterness and anger were well written and the pacing of the story was effective but I just felt a little shorted on the romance between John and Millie. As they had so much to work through I would have like to have seen more interactions between them to show how their love actually grew. And at the end when they finally got together I wish that had been more drawn out rather than rushed onto 5 pages. I would have also liked to have seen a bit more about Ann and Stephen’s romance after John and Millie got together. It would have made a very good next story for Ms. Jepson to write – although I know this book was part of a larger, over-arching series. So I will be recommending this book for others as a nice read for a vacation or weekend-at-home type of story. It was a pretty good first novel and I hope Ms. Jepson will continue to hone her craft and put out more stories soon.

Millie Cooper is a stronger, more admirable person than I am. There is no way, especially after six years, that I would become the nurse for the mother and brother who broke up my engagement with their son and brother. I wouldn’t have the willingness or grace, particularly after learning their reason was-I was beneath them socially as the child of a fisherman’s family! Then, add that to the fact that her beloved needs her to care for his pregnant wife…NO WAY, NO HOW! However, if we indeed accept God’s grace, we can do anything. In this way, Millie is truly a strong, admirable person.

Rebecca Jepson is a new author to me, but she won’t stay that way long. Her story resonates with Biblical truths, insights and wisdom. She crafts a unique story that leaves you guessing until the end. The last few pages toward the end produce a desire to be able to read even faster! Inevitably, it can’t end the way you fear, or can it? The suspense is exciting, causing you to hold your breath hoping for, and receiving, a satisfying conclusion.

I am so enjoying the My Heart Belongs Series! I especially like that I am discovering new authors like Rebecca Jepson and that each book is a stand-alone story.

I received this book from Barbour Publishing, Inc. through NetGalley. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.

I really enjoyed My Heart Belongs in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The characters really made the story and it was so well written. I had a hard time putting it down.

Millie Cooper is a nurse in Glenwood Springs. She is happy there and loves working for Dr. Murphy. When she hears a familiar voice, all the pain of a past break up returns. She was supposed to elope with Stephen Drexel, but on the night she was supposed to meet him, his brother, John Drexel, shows up instead. He has stopped the marriage from occurring. Millie believes it occurred because she was a poor fisherman's daughter and the Drexels are a wealthy family. John asks Millie to put all of the past hurts behind her and act as the nurse for his ailing mother and Stephen's pregnant wife.

When God directs Millie to put the past behind her and take the job, Millie is met by a woman who is very sick but who remembers the past and is intent on putting Millie in her place. But with God's help, Millie sees things she never saw before and she looks at John with fresh eyes. She finds herself drawn to him. What happens in the book is completely unexpected but paves the way for Millie to see people for who they are and to realize that what kept her from marrying Stephen, is not at all as it appeared.

All of the My Heart Belongs books are so good and so well written. You cannot go wrong with them. I have not read one that I ranked below four stars. This one is one of my favorites.
