One Little Lie was really hard to follow as there are many POVs and too many details. Normally I love this type of genre I just found it too hard to follow and I lost interest. I wish I had known this was a series as I would have read the first book before trying to tackle this one.

I enjoyed the plot of this book and the way it was written by switching between different characters' points of view. There were many issues to think about while reading, as two families are torn apart by the loss of their sons in two different ways, although the two families' stories are very related. There are quite a few characters in the storyline which at first I found hard to follow, but that factor disappeared early on and I was able to follow with no problem at all. I would definitely recommend this book. Thank you #netgalley for the advanced reader's copy.

This book was rather confusing as it is told by multiple people and until you get to know them it truly doesn't make sense. When you finish the book, you realize why it had to be written with so many main characters and it makes sense. It had some really good twists and turns and definitely keeps you hooked until the end. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Avon Books UK. All opinions are my own.

While the storyline had me hooked I still felt like I fell into the middle of the plot not quite knowing enough to keep up with each the characters. Also, im not a fan knowing so soon into the story “who done it”. I guess I love suspense up until the very end. But still left me wondering “”””what would you do””””.

This is the first book I’ve ready by Sam but I really enjoyed this. It was fast paced and had enough twists to keep me guessing throughout.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review. This novel revolves around the murder of one young man and the disappearance of another young woman and all of the lives touched by these incidents. I found the book to be an enjoyable read and loved the different points of view/seeing how all of the stories came together. I would agree with another reviewer that this seems to be more of general fiction than mystery/thriller. It was somewhat predictable at times and the ending left me a little disappointed. It seemed somewhat anti-climactic. Overall, it was a great book, I just wish the ending had more to it.

Twists and turns a plenty in this little number. Really good plot that kept you guessing and strong characters. Good subject matter

My Rating (out of 5)
⭐⭐⭐⭐

A suspenseful tale of motherhood and guilt.

Deborah and Alice's lives are intertwined by the common threads of motherhood, violence, and guilt. Deborah's son was murdered. Alice's son murdered him.

Drowning in grief, Deborah feels guilty for not being there to protect her son. She is struggling, and failing, to continue her life. She is doing poorly at work, and her marriage is strained.

Alice feels guilty for what her son has become, but is fiercely protective of him nonetheless. In an effort to redeem herself for her son's wrongdoings, Alice has started a support group for parents whose children are deeply troubled. But does she have other motives as well?

Alice feels that she has lost her son too, and that she and Deborah could share their grief. Deborah is naturally aghast when Alice comes to her suggesting that she is suffering the loss of her son as well. After all, she can still see her son, and talk to her son - things Deborah is denied.

When Alice is found bloody and beaten, it is discovered that things are not always as they seem. Alice has told one little lie...

Connie Summers is a psychologist who is working at the prison, and is able to break through Kyle's 4 year wall of silence. But once he starts talking, Connie realizes that the danger may extend beyond the prison walls.

I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the mothers in this story. In their own way, each is struggling with guilt and loss, despite being on opposite sides of the same issue. In the end, the maternal guilt threatens to destroy the mothers regardless of whether the guilt stemmed from not being able to protect their child from violence, or not being able to prevent their child from becoming violent.

There is a lot going on in this story, and a lot of different players, but the story is written well, and is easy enough to follow.

Happy Reading,

I found the book a little confusing to start out with, you need to read it slow and pay close attention to get it all straight in your head, there are quite a few main characters and moves between the character’s perspectives to another so not the easiest book to keep up with. In saying that, I did enjoy it, the overall story was good and turned out to be a well written thriller.

My name is Alice and my son is a murderer. That's quite a declaration to make to a support group, but that's pretty much how the book starts out. Alice is a mom who isn't quite perfect; she might have let one or two things slip, just like we all do. Unfortunately for Alice, her son was hiding much bigger things than just being a loser who plays video games 24/7. Now he's in jail for killing Deborah's son and Alice is trying to find ways to atone for what's happened.

Sam Carrington weaves a twisty tale of mothers and sons, crime and punishment. The writing is good, the story is interesting, the pacing a smidge slow for my taste. I'm giving this one 3 stars because I just found myself lost from beginning to end with a few too many major characters to follow. I've never read Carrington's work before, but I imagine she's used prison psychologist Connie before since those chapters often alluded to a complicated sounding backstory that really had little relevance to this book.

It's my second read this year where I had the gist of the novel all confused from the get go. The synopsis had me believing this would be more analysis driven, more focused on the son gone bad and the mother who isn't sure how it happened. I thought I would be reading another We Have to Talk about Kevin. Instead this book is a gradual suspense about a partially solved crime; it's good in it's own right, but not really what I was looking for. I liked this book, but it wasn't a standout for me.

This tightly plotted thriller takes readers through a tangled web of lies that will keep the pages turning. Recommended for fans of Shari Lapena and Liane Moriarty

Thank you to Avon Books UK for the e-galley front Netgalley of One Little Lie in exchange for an honest review. I found the short alternating viewpoints of the first part of One Little Lie to be confusing. The chapters of the second part seemed to get longer and focused more on Connie so it connected me more to the plot. Unfortunately, I was not a big fan of Connie or her choices. This book could technically be a stand-alone but I found that the constant referencing to past events made me feel like I was missing a big piece of the story. I did love the concept though and the twists were good and kept me reading. The idea to follow the mother of a murdered boy as well as the mother of the murderer is a great one. I never really considered what life would be for either and most police procedurals obviously focus on the criminals. I just wish the characters had time to develop more in the first half so the ending was more meaningful. Available July 23/18.

Meh. That is all I can say to this book. I thought it was going to be a great one, just based on the story alone, but I was completely lost for most of the book. I think the lost came from being almost bored because there were a ton of little details. Overkilll on the details in fact. You have to really REALLY pay attention to understand who is who and what is happening.
I haven't read any of Sam Carrington's novels so that can be why I wasn't used to the writing style.
I won't say this book is awful, because its not, its just more confusing at times.
