This was such an awesome read. I kept hearing good things about this book and seeing as we kept selling out of it at work I was excited to be able to get a copy though Netgalley to see what all the talk was about. There were so many powerful points throughout each chapter and so many things that I was able to takeaway from reading this. There were certain chapters that I did not think I would enjoy due to what they were about but even during these particular ones there were still messages that stood out to me and were relevant in my life in one way or another. I would definitely recommend this one and look forward to reading her other stuff. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this in exchange for a review.

Girl, Wash Your Face was exactly what I needed. I was in a place where I felt stuck, and I really didn't know how to get out of it. I picked up this book and then literally cried through the first six chapters (okay, and maybe a few more times after that). Rachel Hollis has a no-nonsense way of speaking right to you, urging you to stop being stuck and get up and do something! This isn't a "push everyone out the way to do you" sort of book, but she tackles all the excuses that WE women give OURSELVES to keep us from pushing through spiritually, emotionally and physically. We often are our own worst enemy, and Rachel points this out gently several times, while giving practical advice for moving forward.

While I do think that this book lacks a little spiritual meat, I don't know if I could have digested it if she would have just thrown a bunch of scripture at me. Instead, it was like a friend wrote me a letter of admonishment and encouragement, and it was just what I (and apparently millions of other women) needed to hear.

Thank you to my friends at NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Loved this book! Read the print version for part of the book but then also listened to the audiobook. Loved that the audio version was narrated by the author. That makes me likely to get the audio version on her next book. Appreciated her straightforwardness and the fact that it seemed like she wasn’t holding anything back. Such a motivator! Must read.

A solid 4 stars!

While I am not one for self help/motivational books I thoroughly enjoyed how true and raw Rachel's life experiences are and how relate-able she is. Back in 2007 I read a self help book that Oprah recommended and it made me so mad that I threw it across the room and never finished reading it. It felt fake and like the person who wrote it had no insight on what it is like to lose someone you love unexpectedly or even to sickness or old age and have to pick up the pieces and continue on with your life. Sorry off topic, but Rachel's experience with death and life in general were so true and so refreshing to read. She doesn't sugar coat it. She tells it how it is and it sparks honest within the readers. You can look at yourself in the mirror everyday and lie to yourself or you can take a truth and build upon it while making small positive changes in your life. I can't wait to read her next book Girl, Stop Apologizing.

Pros: It was simple to read and something that you can go through in 1 or 2 days.

Cons: The whole rest of the book. She was incredibly tone deaf. Her advice was nothing new, and even hypocritical at times. She reminds me of one of those girl bosses who claims that you can just get anything that you want just go for it, but misses the point that this "advice" is pretty much meaningless which makes this book come across as inauthentic. I would rather read a book that was more real and said that sometimes you have to abandon your goals, sometimes life hands you too much lemons and you just have to ride it out until you get a chance to make lemonade. Sometimes there are no fixes for your problem and you just have to learn to live with it and find joy and comfort in being alive. Because of that I'd take the words in this book with a grain of salt and move on to the next.

Although I had a copy of the book, I ended up listening to the audio version. It was an enjoyable, light listen that did not hold my complete attention. I enjoyed her stories and ramblings but nothing really stuck with me. It was fine.

I had heard so many good things about this book that when I was given a free copy of it, I was super excited. Now, as an avid reader of self-help books, I've read some pretty great stuff and some pretty not great stuff. This one, unfortunately, fell into the category of the latter. I was sadly disappointed with the meat of this book because it didn't give me any new or great ideas. No inspiration. No nothing. The only thing it did do is remind me that Disney has races that people can sign up to run. Cool. I had forgotten I wanted to do that. Other than that, it really should be an autobiography instead of a self-help book. Rachel is cute and witty and yes, I did find the part about her peeing in her pants a little funny but really when you strip away all the cute and witty there is not too much left. It's a story about things she messed up on in life and things that didn't go so great until one day they did. And you can do it too! You Can Do It!!! The end. No, really. The end. I would have liked few more life tips and tricks instead of a cheerleader telling me to go wash my face.

I enjoyed every last drop of it. It had a "sitting down with a friend" kind of feel to it. I think I would enjoy having her as a friend in fact. I liked that she found ways to come to terms with it's okay to be different and that her normal doesn't HAVE to look like everyone else's. She came across as refreshingly real.
I also would like to mention that I have never heard of Rachel Hollis before but I am glad that I read this book. I gathered nuggets of truth that I am exploring. The first one that hit me was the truth about how we lie to ourselves when we say we are going to do something and then flake out and don't do it. My eyes popped open on that one! It was like she held a mirror up to my face and I saw something. Something that I didn't like but once seen now I can do something about. It wasn't the only statement that caused revelations like that. Just for the record let me mention that I am a 60+ years old woman and I could identify with what she was saying.
On a few last notes, I would like to say that I took a risk and picked up her book on audio book to listen to in addition to reading this book. Why was it a risk? Because I have tried at least 3 times to listen to audio books and it all came up a Big Fat Zero. I never succeeded trying to listen to a book for a couple of reasons. One is that I am a very visual person AND time after time my mind would wander listening to a book. This was my FIRST success with this kind of media. Not only did my mind NOT wander, but her voice wasn't monotone in any way. Expressions came through really well. She was engaging and funny like her written words but I got to hear her style. Anything else would have put me to sleep.
One final thought or two. I really liked the way she set up the chapters with the lies. She also added what helped her as a closing part of each chapter and I liked that a lot. I probably should mention that the unique eBook cover and title was the first things to catch my attention.

Just. So. Good. I have been hesitant to read this book, because I tend to be stubborn when it comes to books that are extremely popular. When I read a book that is surrounded by what I feel is a bit of hype, I tend to be more critical, and read with a sense of skepticism. However, this book absolutely lives up to the hype. It's fantastic. "Girl, Wash Your Face" is encouraging, funny, and absolutely practical. I found no pretension here, no preaching. Rachel Hollis's tone is friendly and refreshing. She is funny, without being facetious. I felt the book could be for ANY woman. This book is just pages and pages of encouragement and invitation to live in joy--not that surface kind of joy that doesn't match up with life circumstances--but the kind of joy that just makes one laugh a little, and feel like she can take a deep breath once in a while. To know that things are ok, and that yes, we can even giggle and have a little fun. I have greatly enjoyed this book, and know that it's one I'll be recommending over and over. A special thanks to the publisher, who provided me with a free electronic copy of the book via NetGalley. I was not required to write a review of any kind. The opinions here are all my own!

There were some really great, powerful parts of this book that made me think about life. I was really able to extract some of her comments about friendship and use them to my advantage. They will be stuck in my head for a while!

The author has a funny, effortless way of writing, which made it a really quick and easy read. It was exactly what I needed after reading a bunch of thrillers. Her advice is spot on and often made me feel like I was reading about my own life. My only issue is that I wish that this had been around years ago. As a 30-something woman, married with kids, I feel like I am not her target audience. Although I’m able to take a lot away from this book, I truly feel it would help more people, and have a wider reach, for college-aged readers. I still happily give it 4 stars and look forward to more from this author. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Girl Wash Your Face is the most inspirational, kick-you-in-the-butt, personal development book I have read since Glennon Doyle's Carry on Warrior. Hollis writes like she is your best friend. She gets inside your mind and addresses all the lies that your personal critic allows to control your life. She encourages you to take back control of your life and preaches that we are all made for more. I highly recommend this book as it is the best non-fiction book I have read this year. I cannot wait for the follow up book. Rachel Hollis is changing lives!

As the founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Rachel Hollis developed an immense online community by sharing tips for better living while fearlessly revealing the messiness in her own life. Now, in this challenging and inspiring book, she exposes the twenty lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively, lies we've told us so often we don't even hear them anymore.

REVIEW:
This book got a lot of hate. It's published through a Christian company, and touted as such in every description of the book. People could not understand how she considered herself Christian but had such a heavy reliance on herself to move through life's obstacles. Hmm.

I loved this book, it's simple and to the point. She uses every chapter to talk about the lies we tell ourselves.
She has a lot of personal stories, and how she navigated the choppy waves of her life. She is flawed like every human being on this planet, but is devout and always has her faith to fall back on. To me, her self-reliance is a God given gift and should be celebrated, not judged.

Of course, this book isn't magic. There isn't a secret recipe to a perfect life, no a-ha moments. If you're needing a a little encouragement, and to know that other people (EVEN THE ONES THAT LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE THEIR LIVES TOGETHER) are in the same boat you are in, then this a great book.

Heard great things about his book all over the place, but was a bit disappointed. It was written very casually, which definitely makes it accessible, but felt a bit underbaked to me. The end of chapters often felt cut off and thought lines sometimes seemed out of place or unfinished. All that being said, her advice was excellent and clearly well founded, and it’s still a worthwhile read. Good for women in any stage of life, and truly motivational.

What an amazing read! This book will have you laughing, crying, thinking and wondering. It's full of inspiration and thought provoking questions. Rachel even provides an amazing study guide that goes along with the book which makes you as the reader think more deeply. You won't get anything out of this book if you just read or skim through it.

You need to dig deep within yourself and question who you are, what your goals are, where you want to be in the future and who you want to project yourself as now.

Rachel shares laugh out loud stories about Matt Damon, she shares stories of the most horrible time in her life but in the end, she did it! She made something of herself.

This book is truly uplifting and with have you thinking through out and for years to come.

Rachel Hollis is absolutely an exciting and motivational writer. I had a preconceived notion that this book was more in the Christian Living genre as opposed to the Self Help genre. That said, it has some good insights and some funny stories.

I couldn't get into this book, even though I tried several times. I had heard so much about it that I thought it would be a hit, but I didn't like the style of writing and couldn't really identify with the author. The information was not new to me, so maybe that's why I couldn't get into it that much. There's definitely people out there who'll love this book, but I'm not one of them.

From the very first page to the very last, I loved every single page, paragraph, sentence and word of this book. Oozing positivity and optimism, Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis is hands down one of the best nonfiction books I’ve EVER read, PERIOD. Reading this book felt like I was chatting with an old friend.

Throughout the book Rachel visits various fictions about life that many of us have heard (or been told) and may have even bought into. She doesn’t just supply useful, life affirming information but she is also generous about drafting a practical road-map to letting go of negativity or as the tag line promises, “stop believing the lies about who you are so you can become who you were meant to be.”

Written with honesty, as well as a little humor and mirth, the author is both relatable and upbeat. Rachel has a way of delivering life affirming truths to us that are so inspired that they stick with you well after the book is over.

Girl Wash Your Face is an instant FAV!

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Every page of this book was powerful and impacting. Every paragraph. Sometimes you pick up a book that has been hyped up and you put it off because you don't want to be disappointed. That's what I did with this book. I'd heard RAVING reviews, and honestly, I didn't want it to let me down. So I put it back on the shelf, I scrolled passed it, and never opened it.
But then I did. And not for a single second did it disappoint. In fact, I'm now apart of the hyped up crowd that will tell every reader, every woman: GO READ THIS BOOK. Just do it. Read it. From cover to cover and then back again. Because it is that important. It is that life changing. It is the "read over and over again until it seeps into your pores, then read it again" type of book.
Rachel Hollis talks about struggle, weight gain/loss, family, sex life (gasp, I know), loving yourself, and so much more. She steps into every corner, crevice and nook of a woman's personal business and shines a floodlight on it all and creates a feeling of commonality. Even the little bits that I couldn't relate to, I kinda related to. It was like talking to your best friend and going, "yeah, I totally see what you mean." I'm already about to read it again, and I'll probably gain all new insight from it the next time around too. And there will be a next.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my free review. I love this book! The author wasn’t forcing her opinions down you throat, as I’ve seen in other similar books. She was very relatable, and had a great sense of humor.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis is a book that has been recommended to me directly and indirectly many times over by family and friends. I was excited to be approved for a copy by NetGalley, so I could see what this one was all about. The book is built around the lies that the author has told and believed about herself. With each of these, she candidly talks about the doubt, struggle and angst that has come with the lie. There is a honestly and authenticity with which she writes, and I could identify so much when she was talking about the messages she had convinced herself were true. What I appreciated even more that in addition to talking about the lie, she talked about what she had done to overcome it. She also offered tips for how to do the same if you were in a similar situation. What I love about this one was that it was such a flowing, conversational read. It was written in a tone that acknowledged we've all been in some of these spots, but we didn't have to stay there. This was a particularly well-timed read for me, and it was the dose of realness, inspiration and grace I needed.
