This review is really difficult for me to type. Kylie Scott is an author who I have really liked reading over the years, but for me her Dive Bar series has been hit or miss. I wanted to love Chaser. I have wanted Eric’s book since the beginning of the series and we finally get it in Chaser.

I struggled with this book but not because of Eric or Jean, but mainly because of Nell and her nasty treatment of Eric and the way no one else believed in him. What could have been the perfect redemption of the manwhore but was tainted by nasty comments, belittling and not believing in your brother, your friend, that people can change. Also add in the little motherhood jabs and for me, a mother of two who had to have an emergency c-sections and one due to an injury all those doubts I felt came back full force. Probably a sore subject for me so you may want to ignore that but for me it made me upset.

I loved how Eric was with Jean, especially when something really in a sense brings them together, his true self really showed. My heart broke for Eric more than once, I was so pissed on his behalf. He really is an amazing guy who deserves his happiness. I liked Jean as well although I do wish she would have told Nell to shove it.

I don’t want to say that I am done with this series because I really do like this author, but at the same time I may very well be. Then again this very well may be a case of it’s me not the books so as always form your own opinions.

Chaser by Kylie Scott is Dive Bar series #3. Bartender/owner and skirt chaser Eric Collins is having a rough go of it. His friends are grilling him on his womanizing and less than serious business attitude and it appears that everyone, even his own family, agrees with them. Worse yet the hottie that just sat down at his bar is, A.) Friends with his business partner, and past mistake, Nell, so she knows all about him, and B.) very pregnant, and C.) not interested in him. So Eric decides to try to turn his life around, become a better person, and take a break from sex, though no one believes he will make it long.

Jean Antal has left her Florida home to live in the small town her online friend Nell has told her about. Pregnant with a child she has been made to feel bad for keeping she needs to get away and make a new life. Eric is confusing to her at first, flirting, then put off by her pregnancy, besides she knows who and what he is, but she can't help but to slowly make friends with him. When fate conspires to make him the one to takes her to the hospital when her daughter is born their friendship grows deeper, though at times seems to be a dance of one step back before two steps forward.

This book was definitely a relationship building one. Eric tries very hard to be a real friend and grow as a person, but his initial strong attraction to Jean never goes away and as the trust builds between them a real relationship grows. I liked how Ms. Scott built up the whole process, from becoming friends, to the details about babies, parenting and bonding with a child, the realities of intimacy with a young child only a second from waking up, and in the end something more special than either of these characters would have had if their had been a different journey to the finish line.

Overall I very much recommend Chaser by Kylie Scott. I enjoyed the detailed characters and complexities as well as the underlying force pulling Eric and Jean together. Chaser was very well written, thorough and complete.

(I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)

Back with the Dive Bar family and I couldn’t be more excited. This family of misfits has captured my heart and Chaser was no different.

His friends and family have learned not to expect a lot from Eric. The love them and leave them type has trouble written all over him. Enter Jean. The moment Jean walked away from her old life she ended up right in the middle of Eric’s and I’m here for it!! Drawn together these two are faced with major life changes and undoubtable chemistry.

Kylie’s writing style has always been a favorite of mine. Chaser continues my obsession with the Dive Bar family. Low angst, but still an enjoyable read, Eric and Jean will win over your heart. Plus when you throw in a little one you are guaranteed lots laughs and lots of love. A makeshift family always proves to be a great read.

Readers pull up a chair and join in on the flirtiness and fun of the Dive Bar in this charming romance of friends to lovers. Be reintroduced to the friends and family who’ve become a family to readers too as they all put in their two cents as playboy Eric finds himself attracted to his unwed, pregnant neighbor. Preconceived notions, jealousy, and unexpected feelings are soon on the menu as both of them struggle with their ever-intensifying connection which will keep readers grinning with each turn of the page.

Eric Collins has always been seen as the carefree playboy, the good dresser who enjoys the ladies. The last year though, a year that saw the woman he impregnated lose their child, has made him a bit more introspective and longing to be seen differently. The moment he meets his new neighbor Jean is the chance to forge a new path and it’s a journey that brought out a new and charming side to the formerly egotistical player. It’s a journey that was full of sweet interactions and heartwarming friendship that soon teemed with sensuality. Through it all I fell for Eric even more as he truly became a man, a man worthy of HEA that I was rooting for every step of the way. When readers first met Eric he was like a little boy, good for a laugh and uninterested in obligations. His family saw him as the likable screw-up, but with the pregnancy of his friend Nell, something shifted within him. The loss of their baby was hard on Nell but hard too on Eric as it was the first thing he started taking seriously. Being around Jean gives him a second chance and he makes the most of it, fully immersing himself in taking care of a baby while becoming equally invested in Jean as a friend and a lover. His interactions with baby Ada were heartwarming and though he started out feeling insecure he became a pro with his handling of her making him even sexier. He was supportive to Jean when she needed help most, taking pride in being the one she called on and it made their friends to lovers connection even richer and more rewarding. Eric’s journey was a delightful one and the highlight of this story that had me often grinning...when I wasn’t blushing.

Jean’s the girl who always did what her parents wanted, always toed the line and did the expected. With her decision to keep her baby from a one-night stand though, she’s disappointed her parents for the first time and is left on her own to start over hundreds of miles away. Jean’s full of preconceived notions about Eric, courtesy of Nell, the moment she meets him but never holds it against him. That’s the likable thing about her, she’s kindhearted and non-judgmental. Her early interactions with Eric are as friends, playful and supportive, but soon turn sensual. It’s an easy transition, one that felt natural and oh so right. Once she and Eric became lovers she became his champion, standing up for him whenever Nell put him down and subtly nourishing his desire to be a better man. She’s an admirable heroine who knew what she wanted out of life and went for it wholeheartedly.

This was an entertaining story full of charm and sexiness. There was an easy vibe to the journey Eric and Jean took. Though I wish they hadn’t taken things quite so slowly the fireworks between them were well worth the wait. I don’t normally care for children in romances, but Ada was a joy. She brought out a delicious side to Eric, gave readers a more mature view of him, and their scenes together brought a smile to my face. The three of them made a wonderful yet unexpected family, gave Eric a glimpse of the HEA he could have if he just had faith in himself. A lot of his insecurities are courtesy of Nell, who I found to be rather unlikable, and throughout this story she didn’t hold back in her petty condemnations. Whenever she came on the scene I actually cringed which bummed me out as I was caught in an Eric haze. Despite my anger at Nell this story is full of other supportive and endearing characters who won me over. I especially enjoyed Ms. Scott entwining characters from her Stage Dive series into the action here as it expanded the familial connections. From the first page to the last this is a story that cocooned me in its warmth, a warmth created by the delicious Eric who became the quintessential book boyfriend. The more committed he became to Jean and Ada the more I fell in love with him and wished for real life men to be more like him. Readers looking for a heartwarming romance with erotically-charged encounters will get all that and more with this dreamy tale that put a permanent grin on my face.

So, Eric wasn't my favorite person so far in this series.  He's always been a bit of a jerk, a bit of a womanizer, a bit irresponsible.  But in here, Eric grows and changes and he was amazing.  I'd say it had a lot to do with Jean showing up.  She brought out the good in him, so did Ada :)
I have to say, I really did NOT like Nell in here.  I get where she was coming from, but my goodness. Give the man a break.    It was like she wanted to give Eric crap and put all the guilt and responsibility on him.  She isn't perfect and she slept with Eric while she was married to Pat.
As always, Kylie's writing is phenomenal.  She has such a wit and is one of my favorite authors.

In the previous books, there seemed to be only three things Eric excelled at:
1) Womanizing
2) Being irresponsible
3) Making a killer cocktail
And as part owner and bartender of The Dive Bar, that last one is the only thing useful.
After the tumultuous events of the last year and a half, he's tried to clean up his act a little. But, he's saddened and exhausted by the disappointed looks and low expectations he still gets from family and friends. Feed up with the flack they constantly give him; he decides to do something. Celibacy.

Then he lays eyes on Jean. His perfect woman.

Seven months pregnant, starting over and moving on from disapproving family, Jean moves above the bar to be close to Nell. Spying her at a table on her first visit to The Dive Bar where Nell works as a chef, Eric uses all of his charm and skill trying to pick her up. He thinks he's losing his touch until she stands up and he gets an eye-full of a very pregnant Jean.

Told in the first person, single POV of Eric, what follows is his evolution from immature f*ckboy to responsible, naively romantic adult. Then friendship and love. I didn't think it was possible given his behavior in the previous books, but this author had me wrapped around Eric's finger. He was endearing.

Using pitch-perfect dialog between the characters and immersive world building, I had a hard time thinking of this place and these people as fictional. The Dive Bar feels like you could go there right now and pull up a chair with Eric, Nell or Joe.

Chaser is an adorable, charming romance! I loved every second. Eric tries his hand at love (and adulting), and I was rooting for him the whole way. I've enjoyed every book in this series; I'm sad to see it end.

***The Dive Bar series is a spin-off of the Stage Dive series. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you do!

Chaser is the second book in the Dive Bar series and it can be read as a stand-alone. This is Eric Collins’ story. I first met Eric in book 2 of the series. His action showed his immaturity. When I learnt he would be the focus of this installment, I was curious to learn what made him tick.

Eric is owns a share of the Dive Bar where he works as a bartender. He is the consummate womanizer and is not looking to be involved in a long-term relationship. Then he met Jean, but when he discovered she would be his neighbour, he figured all bets would be off. Especially because she was seven months pregnant. This interfered with his attempts to prove to his friends he was not the low life womanizer they thought him to be. He tried staying away, but then he came to her aid the night she went into labour. Since they slowly developed a bond, one that went beyond friendship. Will Eric finally get the chance to prove to his friends he is relationship material?

I was prepared to dislike Eric based on my previous knowledge of him. Actually, at the start of the story he was vain and unreliable. He was more an anti-hero. However, as the story developed he proved to be a responsible young man. Someone you can rely on in times of trouble. As a result, I found myself rooting for him throughout the story.

Watching him bond with Jean and her baby was a wonderful experience. I loved how he was there for her during her lowest and highest points. Knowing he had no reason to help Jean but watching him being there for her anyway was heart-warming and all around a joy to witness. It was at this moment I saw beyond his selfish facade to his kind-hearted personality.

I loved how the romance developed. Theirs was not an insta-love connection. What started out as a friendship, slowly developed into a passionate connection that neither could deny.

Despite being a cute and adorable read, I had some issues. One of which involved the POVs from the story was narrated. I have no issue when the narration is done from one of the protagonists POV. However, in this case it did not work well enough for me. As the story was narrated from Eric’s POV connecting with him came natural. I related to his fears regarding love and relationships. I believe with Jean’s POV the story would have been so much more appealing. Not having her POV made it difficult to connect with her. I could not put a finger on her feelings for Eric. I did not feel any chemistry between them.

Another thing, which prevented me from connecting with Jean, was the lack of information regarding her past. I was aware of the reason for her relocation but beyond that, nothing else was disclosed.

I did not appreciate how Nell, who is also a co-owner of the bar, treated him. She kept putting him down and constantly tried to make him feel guilty for things, which happened between them in the past. They both were affected by this incident, but she acted as if she was the only one who was hurt. Even though she has moved on with her life. It would seem she could let go of the past and every chance she got she kept reminding Eric about it.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Overall, this was a sweet and heart-warming read. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I can’t explain to you how excited I was to pick up this book. I knew it would be a great read since it was written by one of my favorite authors and because the synopsis sounded incredibly good and it really didn’t disappoint. Kylie Scott is my go-to author when I need a reformed bad boy in my life and I couldn’t be happier with the bad boy she blessed us with in this story.

I forgot how freaking much I love reading books narrated only from a male point of view. They are so much fun to read. Especially reading from Eric’s, the main character in this book, point of view. He can charm the pants off anyone. He is quirky and unexpected and even a little childish at times. He started out very immature for a nearly thirty year old man but he ended up growing up a lot throughout the story and being able to see it all happen inside of his mind was amazing.

For some reason I thought things would move pretty quickly between the characters in this book (probably because Eric used to have tons of one-night stands) but that’s not the case. Eric and Jean’s relationship is slow-paced. They become good friends and they stay friends for a while and then they take the step. It is sweet torture. They have such a beautiful relationship, they support each other, have fun together and flirt like crazies. Reading all about Eric’s feeling towards Jean is going to have y’all swooning like you’ve never swooned before.

I already feel like I need to reread this book and I just finished it a couple of hours ago. That’s how much I love it. It is such a heartwarming love story. I can’t wait for y’all to meet and fall in love with Eric.

4 stars
Eric's reputation is an unreliable, manwhore, bad boy, and his friends don't let him forget it. He is broody, lost, and has not been serious about any women. But he has seen his brother and friends start to settle down so he is at least contemplating the idea.

Jean is new to town and will be his new neighbor. He is attracted immediately, but then sees the baby bump and goes into avoidance mode. She is smart, kind, and sweet, but pregnancy freaks Eric out...and so does his fascination with this one woman.

But when he ends up being at the right place to help her during the birth, the connection blossoms. I loved seeing Eric start to grow as a person and try to be there for Jean and the baby. He's not perfect, but he is trying hard to make changes and be more responsible.

And Jean is a struggling, tired single mom who is glad to have Eric's support. They can be themselves together. Their friendship is important to them, and is a slow burn of attraction. And when Jean wants to move into a more of a friends-with-benefits arrangement, Eric is willing and able. But with their fears, insecurities, and other issues are they just asking for trouble?

This brings back all of the characters from this series Joe, Alex, Vaughan, Lydia, Nell and Pat, and also has some other fun cameos. This group can be supportive and tight-knit, but at other times they could really be hard on Eric. I especially wanted to shake Nell for how she treated him. I liked that he set out to prove them wrong. I enjoyed getting his point of view throughout the story, but sometimes it made me wonder exactly where Jean's head was at. But I loved seeing Eric start to finally figure out what he wanted and needed out of life and trying to be a better man. He was sweet, protective, loving, and so freaking adorable with the baby. He really won me over.

Chaser by Kylie Scott is a prime example of romance done right. This book may be the third installment of the Dive Bar Series and can most definitely be read as a standalone. So can one can get drunk on Kylie Scott’s writing? And the answer to that, is YES!!!!

Chaser was one of those reads that had the perfect balance of intrigue, entertainment, romance and sweetness to keep readers like myself glued to the pages. I loved everything about this book. It had great chemistry, dialogue and emotions. So if you are looking for a book that had the slow burn romance and a happily ever after that will leave you smiling for days then this is the book for you. What else can I say but Kylie Scott did a terrific job showcasing the palpable bond her hero and heroine felt for each other.

It seems like I waited for forever for this book. Well worth the wait I would say!

This is Eric's story and the author does a great job of redeeming him. So far in the series, he has been immature, a manwhore and other than owning the bar, not much for responsibility. In strolls Jean and her baby bump and all of a sudden, Eric is rethinking he world.

It was great to catch up on all the other characters. Great to see Eric's friends and family support him but also give him crap about growing up. Loved the slow burn from friendship to something more with Jean.

Great addition to the series!

It's been a while since I last read a book by Kylie Scott. Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to reading the previous two books in the Dive Bar series. So these characters are new to me.

Jean is a strong woman, one whom I respected the hell out of. She's young, she's alone, she's terrified, but that doesn't make her a quitter, nor does it make her abandon her baby girl. I was so sad for her, because she had no one to help her. She needed advice from someone who went through at least the experience of raising a child, and it was painful seeing how she blamed herself for not knowing certain things or not expecting certain things to happen. I understand that she didn't have her mother, but she didn't even have her doctor next to her. As someone who knows a lot of doctors and medical professionals, I was really angry on Jean's behalf for not having anyone to prepare her, to teach her how to do things. So I respected the hell out of her for not giving up when things got messy.

Eric was a fun character to read about. I felt like he was being blamed for the sun not being out in certain moments, which sucked. Sure, he wasn't the most mature guys on the planet, but I felt that at times he was being treated like he was the dumbest, most selfish man out there. Which I thought was so not the case. Now, I am aware that because I haven't read the previous two books in the series, I might not have a complete view of him and of how he acted in previous books, but he was a pretty stand up guy.

I was surprised by this book. I liked how Scott used sarcasm and sometimes bad jokes to make the characters even funnier. I was used to it in Stage Dive and I'm happy this is present in this book as well. I also loved we are in Eric's head. It was super funny to be in his head, and the way he described stuff was very entertaining.

I am so ashamed that I haven't read the other two books in the series, right now, if you want me to be completely honest with you. I need to rectify that, and soon. All in all, I had a lot of fun reading this book and I cannot wait to see what will be the next book.

5 Dive Bar Stars on Goodreads

Chaser by Kylie Scott is the third book in the Dive Bar Series and it was not what I was expecting at all. Eric is part owner in Dive Bar and he has a new woman in his bed ever night. He is up front with them all that he is not into commitment and is just in for a good time. Not one of his friends thinks he can be celibate for any amount of time, So Eric plans to put them all in their place and prove them wrong.

Jean is pregnant and has no one but herself and a few friends and she is going to prove to herself and her parents, who have abandoned her that she can do this on her own.

Hell, I loved being the person she asked for help. Being the person she relied on, someone she trusted, felt damn good.

Both out to prove that they can do it, the two end up bounding and becoming fast friends. No one believes Eric when he says he just wants to be friends and help Jean out. So much so that Jean is warned against him, but Jean sees a different Eric that maybe his friends haven’t seen before. Like always I love great secondary characters and this book has this in spades.

This was a bit of a surprise for me, it was so sweet, funny, and so emotional, I couldn’t put it down and the spark between Eric and Jean was epic and I couldn’t get enough of their story. Eric might just be my new favourite in this series.

I'm just such a sucker for anything Kylie Scott writes. Chaser was a great addition to her Sive Bar series. I loved Eric and that the book was told from his POV. I liked Jean, but had a harder time connecting with her. I felt pretty possive over Eric so at times I was worried about her hurting him. I also had issues with Nell. Again because I wanted to go all momma bear on her. But she and I came to an understanding at the end. Over all, great book.

This story was adorable and fun and so sweet. I loved the heart you could feel reading this story. It made me smile and also frustrated me at certain times. I absolutely loved it all though. The characters were entertaining and believable. I loved seeing especially Eric's progression throughout the story. This is a great series and I can't wait to read more!

The Dive Bar series has been the first one from Kylie Scott which I've enjoyed immensely! (on that note please read Trust by the same author!)

Eric has been known to be a man with a teenager's brain. Sad but true, he prefers to have fun and be a cocky ass, but a loyal friend at the same time. When pregnant Jean arrives in town and moves next to Eric, a strange relationship will begin, which will slowly evolve through the book.

There is quiet beauty in love that blossoms slowly and even more despite the demands of being a newly single mother. I loved the support Jean had from everyone around her, even Eric when he pulled his head out of his ass. Their banter was very good and I also liked the dialogue Eric and Joe had too!

Overall, the book was a delightful read with characters you can't help but root for!

My favorite thing about this story is that we got it from Eric’s POV. I loved seeing things from his eyes. He was not perfect by any means, even in his thoughts, but that’s probably why he felt so real to me.

I really enjoy a good slow-burn romance and I feel like it was absolutely the best route for this story in order to show Eric’s growth and give him redemption. Had he jumped right into bed with Jean, he probably never would’ve taken the time to get to know her on a personal level. It was important for readers to see that he was indeed changing. I absolutely adored his affection for Ada, it was so sweet and made it impossible to dislike him.

I didn’t enjoy Nell in this story at all. I understand that her and Eric have a history and that she was looking out for her new friend,,but she was over the top cruel to Eric. His brother and other friends weren’t exactly nice either but when they saw him making a real effort to be less selfish they took note and were supportive of him. Nell just really mad me angry for most of this book and she brought my mood down with her.

Overall, this was another great addition to the series and I enjoyed it!

I really loved and enjoyed Chaser. I think this may be my favorite out of the series. I just loved the story line and the chemistry the characters had together. I loved the character of Eric and his awesome personality and how he really grew up. I loved him and the baby together, I just couldn't get enough of the two of them. Love being able to see some of the other characters as well. Especially the stage dive boys. Cant wait for more!

I had doubt for this book because Eric wasn’t a guy I like in the last book. His relation with Nell was not great. He’s a manwhore, or at least that’s what Nell, Alex, Lydia and Joe are thinking. This begin to be a problem for Eric, he doesn’t take well that Nell is constantly on his back and he wants to prove her wrong. I really feel some good vibes for him, Nell is really awful with him.

Jean is Nell’s new online friend, she leaves Florida to come to Coeur d’Alene, the first man she met is Eric and the attraction is real. Jean is a sweet girl, her parents are weird and she wants to have a new life.

I like how Eric and Jean are connected, they are so sweet together, and it’s beautiful to see them interact, they are learning to know each other and it seems so real. The only things that irritated me was Nell, she was really awful with Eric, she doesn’t see that he changed and is interested in Jean. She tells him some hard things and really she was not a person I like.

Quick word: A good story of forgiveness and love.
