A YA Sci-Fi book set in another place other than America! We get Australia. What a breath of fresh air. Here we have an ‘X-Men’ meets ‘Divergent’ meets ‘Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children’ meets ‘Stranger Things’ meets ‘Shatter Me’ novel all wrapped up in one.

This is a novel about a girl who goes by the name of "Jane Doe" after she stops speaking. She is held in a prison-like structure called Lengard, for over two and a half years all the while doesn’t utter a sound, until one day her world as she knows it is turned upside down.

Jane Doe is released into the care of a young man named Ward, after the operator of the prison (Falon) decides to take a drastic measure to get Jane to speak. Ward is able to break down her walls and she finally speaks only to come to realize that she has a supernatural speaking power. She is a 'Creator'- a person who can make anything happen with just her voice. The most powerful of all the speakers on the planet- and there are many.

Jane trains to use her abilities and control herself so she doesn't harm anyone else (she believed that she killed her parents with her ability). As she progresses, she is abducted by a group called the "Remnants". This is a group who left or escaped Lengard, and they reveal an alternate truth to her, as well as revealing that they know her real name…Alyssa Scott. She learns that Lengard are the bad ones and they want to help her discover this on her own so she believes.

Jane (Alyssa Scott) gets back to Lengard and she goes to find out the discovery that will help her understand what is going on, she gets captured by Vanik (horrible doctor who lost his speaking ability and is trying to get hers) who performs medical procedures on her until she almost dies. She gets rescued by her friends from the Lengard facility and the book ends on an epic cliff hanger.

There is no word yet if this will be a series, but I sure hope there will be another book as I need to know what happens next! I would recommend this to anyone YA and up who enjoys sci-fi and/or dystopian novels.

This book was a really good read especially if you like sci-fi and dystopian novels, which are my favourites at the moment. This book had lots of interesting pulls that kept the reader interested. Why was Jane in this place? Why did the guard just want to talk? The book started with lots of questions and every time it answered one it threw another one at us just as fast. I really liked the main character, she was learning what was happening to her the same time that we as readers were finding out and I love when that happens because it draws you into the story faster trying to see if you are missing anything. While most people are cruel to her and push her to her limits her new trainer (Ward) seems to be anything but cruel it is almost like he cares. But that can't be right can it? It isn't long before our main character, Chip as her trainer calls her, starts doing the unthinkable and falling for him, but that isn't possible. Or is it? This book was a really good and I can't wait to read the second one. I loved the twists in the book and the sci-fi elements made it a very fascinating read. Every time I thought I knew what was going on the author threw me another huge twist that I didn't see coming. Very good book and I highly recommend it. This kind of has an X-men and a Divergent feel to it and considering I love both of those its not a surprise that I loved this book.

I was really intrigued by the synopsis, and because I had read a book by this author before which I really enjoyed. Whisper was again a really good book, I enjoyed every second of it. There was so much mystery at the beginning of the book, and I thought the mystery still remained near the end (I made a couple of assumptions of course, but most of them didn't come true which I think makes it even better). I will definitely pick up the second book and I will recommend this to my friends!

I was looking for a new read that was a little dystopian, a little sci-fi, and a little romance. This book was all that wrapped up in a great character with strengths, weaknesses, and a drive to keep her secrets hidden while finding the truth.

I really enjoyed the story from start to finish. Seeing Jane in her cell with her torturous daily life helped me connect with the character and the secrets she was keeping inside. The balance of backstory and exploration helped shape and re-shape the location and the characters Jane meets throughout.

Another aspect I really enjoyed was the super slow burn romance. While Jane doesn’t have a boyfriend or even kiss anyone, there’s a definite tension between Jane, Ward, and another mystery character. I liked seeing that affection and connection Jane has, it was especially powerful because the first half the book she spends mostly alone. The addition of secondary characters helps draw Jane out and gives the reader an opportunity to get to know her as she warms up to the characters like Cami and Ward.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian sci-fi books that focus on characters discovering that they have powers. This book is centered on special abilities but it also has lots of character development, world building, and relationships which helps round out the supernatural side. I will definitely be watching for the second book, as the first one ended things well but there are pieces that I can’t wait to see how they continue in book 2.

I have mixed feelings about this.

The title was very interesting and Subject Six-Eight-Four, ‘Jane Doe’, reminded me a lot of Juliette from Shatter me. 'Jane' also considers herself a monster and refuses to speak, at all. She gets treated badly in this 'institution', where she was supposed to get cured.

There were twists and turns I didn't see coming and at first I was really intrigued. One character really annoyed me, because he called Jane Princess ALL THE TIME. I felt like every sentence began with this word. At the end of the book it seemed like a love triangle is going to happen in further books, I don't know how to feel about that. It was quite entertaining to read, but nothing special to be honest. Towards the ending I got a little bit tired of reading, because I had the impression I already saw the story happening before just with different names.
The protagonist was well written and I could sympathise with her, but the love interest felt distant and I found it hard to connect with him. Maybe the author wanted it that way, to keep him mysterious? I don't know. Recently I read many character driven books, with intense relationships in it, maybe that's why I considered the characters as not-deep enough.

I'm giving this book 3 stars, because it was okay, but it didn't leave me sitting at the end of my seat and there were too many aspects that bothered me all in all. I would recommend this for someone, who isn't looking for deep bonds between characters and wants a book that focuses more on the action, the plot and thrilling elements.

I really enjoyed this book! So many thanks to netgalley for providing me with an E-Arc in exchange for an honest review!

The first half of this book really drew me in, and the character of Jane Doe is pretty relatable, because anyone can be a Jane Doe, which I think really helped me connect with her character. The pacing was a bit odd throughout, like the first chapter where she meets with Ward feels a lot like it could also be the end of the novel in some way, but it's somewhere in the beginning of the novel. I went back and forth on liking Ward as a character though, because of the way he treated Jane after she finally spoke. I also feel like this has a bit of instalove, but that could just be me reading way too much into it.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book! It was a fast and enjoyable read, the character progression was well done and I feel like I fully understood all of the sci-fi esque elements even though I don't normally like sci-fi at all.

I would totally recommend this to anyone who likes sci-fi/dystopian novels!

“Words are everything to me. They are life. They are death. They fill all the spaces in between.”

Jane Doe knows the power of words, that’s why she chooses not to use them. But there’s so much more that Jane has yet to learn.

Noni employs a perfect blend of real world happenings, with science fiction/fantasy, and with a good vs evil plot. And the end result is this fast paced, action packed, and completely absorbing book. Setting the story in Sydney was also an exciting bonus for this Aussie reader!

The compelling narration makes it difficult to set it down and I found myself trying to squeeze in a few chapters here and there, as I just had to know more!

The set up of the love triangle is...well...a little done to death in YA fiction, but it didn’t take away too much from the overall enjoyment of the story. Hopefully the subsequent book(s) follow the same path.

Overall it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next one. Thank you to KCP Loft and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A BIG Thank You to NetGalley and Pantera Press for providing me a copy of “Whisper” by Lynette Noni in exchange for my review. This is such an amazing book to read!

“Whisper” is written from a first person perspective of Jane Doe, which I liked as it made me feel closely connected to her. Even though she doesn’t speak much, I was immersed in JD and her thoughts and could easily relate to her. Furthermore, I loved how complex Jane Doe is as we progress with her in the story. She is vulnerable, frustrated, confused, and scared, but yet determined and hopeful considering whatever she has been through. The reader can slowly see her becoming confident and in control once she learns more about what’s going on. In fact, all the supporting characters have their own unique personality that make them likable in some way. I loved Cam and Kael in particular because of their friendliness and honesty towards JD. I adored Enzo as well for how he supports JD throughout her battles.

The author has written the story in simple but gripping manner. Initially, I didn’t know how the story would turn out with Jane Doe being a prisoner in Lengard. As the story develops, there are so many twists and turns that made me wonder what will happen next! Without giving much away, the incidents that take place in the Market in Sydney, at the zoo and when JD sees Dinger are some of my favorite moments. Not just in terms of the plot, but the characters also shocked me as well. Sometimes I would image a character reacting a certain way, only to find that they behaved exactly the opposite. Even now, after reading this book, I am not sure whether I should love Ward or hate him!

Another aspect I particularly loved is that it focuses mainly on JD, without turning it into a love story between her and her love interest. While I would have enjoyed seeing more romance between JD and the men to come into her life, I liked that it primarily concentrated only on JD finding herself. I also enjoyed the fact that there is some closure in the end, but still so many questions that makes me want to pick out the next book in the series!

This book just has everything in it for a great read! Mystery, suspense, science fiction, supernatural, romance, friendship rooted on an unforgettable plot surrounded by wonderful characters! Lynette Noni has created a masterpiece with this novel and I can’t wait for the sequel to release!

'Whisper' is about the life of a girl harboring a secret that she believes that no-one knows about. She keeps this secret by remaining in silence and not making a peep for several years. I would highly recommend this book to people who love mystery, sci-fi and fantasy books. It has an intriguing plot that kept you longing for the next chapter and answers to all of your questions, and it was definitely a page-turner. The characters were wonderfully thought out and they each had their own personality that remained strong throughout the book. This is a great book, thanks a lot for this joy, Lynette Noni!

I was sad not to be able to read this on my kindle because it is my preferred reading method but I did read this using my laptop. I enjoyed the plot, it was a little different from what seems to be the norm lately. Thrilling and mysterious. I look forward to seeing a finished copy and really being able to get into it without the glare of a screen.

All I can say is wow! I thought "Whispers" would be a run of the mill typical sci-fi/fantasy YA novel and boy was I wrong. I was drawn in from the first few pages and did not want to stop reading at all until the very end.
For two years and counting, Subject 684 otherwise known as Jane Doe has existed in a mysterious institution undergoing torturous physical and mental experiments. All this time, she doesn't dare to speak one single word for reasons that are explained later on in the novel. It is only when a new and kind evaluator is assigned to Subject 684 and breaks down the "armor" she has so painstakingly built" to protect herself that she discovers the truth about not only herself but also the "program" she has been in for so long and worst of all, a horrible plot that threatens the world itself.
It usually takes me a chapter or more to be intrigued by a book but "Whispers" drew me in from the first few sentences and that is rare for me. New twists were unveiled gradually and kept my interest until the very end. I really enjoyed how the book was left on a cliff hanger and I have to say I really want to read book two of the series already. Whispers was extremely well written with plot twists galore. This is one not to be missed!
I received a copy from the Pantera Press via Netgalley for free in exchange for my honest review.

This book was good to read. I didn't really knew what was coming, when I started the book but at the end I was amazed. At first I thought Jane was strange and stubborn because she wouldn't talk or she had a good reason. When the first hints came with her parents I knew she had killed them or thought she did so. So it was no big suprise when it was revealed later on. It was nie when she started to slowly open up to everybody, it must have been so hard to not interact with normal people for 2 1/2 year. Big respect she didn't get mad over the time. I loved the idea of the author about the speaking abilities and I want to read the next book as soon as possible.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

"Words are too precious to throw around carelessly."

Stranger Things meets X-Men meets The Divergent in this ah-mazing book! Just imagine!

This book kept me glued to it and I absolutely loved everything about it. The plot, the story, the characters, writing style, and most importantly the mystery it creates! Omg!

We are introduced to a mysterious girl who is silent since don't know when. She is at a secret research facility, Lengard, for almost three years where she is called 684. They also gave her a fake name Jane Doe because she refuses to give them any info about her including her name. She is told that Lengard is a place for extraordinary children like her. She is experimented on and tortured just to get anything out of her but she is one tough cookie. One day, the Director of the facility warned her that if she won't respond or co-operate with the evaluators within a month, she will be removed from the program. As her last chance, she is assigned to a new evaluator Landon Ward and that's when things start to change. In a state of panic she utters some words and strange things start to happen. Stranger things come ahead as you read it because guys! I don't want to give any spoiler just so the illusion of this wonderful world created by Lynette Noni doesn't break. Trust me when I say, go into this book blind. The lesser you know the better and get ready to hooked on it until you devour it in one sitting.

Lynette Noni has done a great job. Her wtiting style is superb. The world building is great and all the characters are awesome! Each character has a distinct personality. It feels like you are seeing everything how each character is talking, walking, smiling, acting etc.

When I read a book I hardly remember the names of side characters but with Whisper I have a list of my favorite side characters. Enzo is the sweet guy and I loved his sense of humor. Cami is so adorable and huggable. Keeda is sassy. Ward is that mysterious guy you would never know what he is upto but he will melt your heart with his dimpled smile. Kael is just awesome! He radiates an aura of strength and power yet he is super caring and considerate. Now the character I really wanted to punch in the face - Vanik. I hate Vanik! Just so you know, after Voldemort, Vanik is my most hateable character.

Lynette Noni has created a masterpiece of a book with living and breathing characters in an amazing world that feels so real. I could even see the places in my head so clearly. I walked side by side in the dead white corridors with Jane Doe. I got exhauseted while running after her in the catacomb. Even her cell where she was captivated gave me chills. My most favorite scene from the book is:

"I have never seen such a beautiful sight. So many words. So many wonders."

Yes! You get it right! Reader's paradise!

And the ending..... omg! I want next sequel now...right now!

Cover Art

The cover art is simply amazing. We see the face of a girl with eyes open amd staring directly at you. There is an element of mystery and wonder on her face. Her eyes are blue and her lips are pink and other than that we don't see any colors. The title of the book Whisper is written accross her lips. Just perfect!

Conclusion

I absolutely loved it. This is a must read for fans of X-men and Stranger Things. If you are a fan of X-man and Stranger Things you are definitely going to like it and even if you are not a fan, you are still going to love it for its strong plot, awesome characters, the suspense it creates and how fast-paced it is. It will make a great movie too. (Yo Netflix! 21st Centuray Fox! You hear that). This book is the one everyone will be talking about this year so go get your copies today.

Summary:
Jane Doe, as they call her, has spent over two years trapped in a government facility called Lengard. Everyday is the same, she wakes up, goes through the same therapy sessions, physical training, and medical procedures. She eats the same bland food and walks through the same colorless halls. Throughout her extended stay in this facility, she has not spoken a single word. Why has she resolved to stay silent for all these years? Will Jane ever speak again and what will the consequences be?

Review:
This book opened up interesting, but slow. I was intrigued by the mystery that surrounded the setting and characters. The reader is constantly curious why the main character is being treated the way she is and why she will not speak. I was very curious how this story was going to resolve. It was not until the middle of the book that things began to pick up. I was on the edge of my seat when things began to unfold and the reader began to understand all that was shrouded in mystery at the beginning of the story.

The detail and world building in this book is really well done. I can clearly imagine what the facility, Lengard, looks like. There are clear descriptions of her daily life and the impact it has on her. For example, she is shocked by human touch because she has not come in contact with another human in over two years. It is so sad and demeaning that Jane (Chip/JD/Subject 684) must wear a shapeless gown everyday and is not allowed to wear shoes. However, this is an example of the attention to detail in this novel. There are super intricate backstories to so many of the characters and the setting. The book even connects to current event in the real world, like the Ebola outbreak in 2014. This brought the reader deeper into the story than expected. I was not expecting this level of depth and I highly appreciated it.

There are some pretty awesome messages in this book, one being to never give up. The main character exemplifies this incredibly, through her determination. By far my favorite message was the power of words. There is a huge emphasis on how powerful words can be and I think this message needs to be brought into the real world. In this story, words are weapons, and this is true in society.
“Words are too precious to throw around carelessly… I’ve seen it. Words demand respect. They are beautiful; they are terrible. They are a gift and a curse.”

Random side note… I adore Schrödinger! I am not used to characters in YA novels to have pets and this made me unbelievably happy.

I will be over here waiting for the sequel!

Warnings: Discussion of suicide, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks

Action packed and mysterious, this was one of the most fun and entertaining books I have read in some time, so much so that I read it in a single sitting. Jane Doe has spent more than two years in self enforced silence, locked up in a mysterious underground facility, where she is poked and prodded, and tested to the limits of endurance, both physically and mentally, on a daily basis. Why she never speaks is something she will not, cannot reveal, until a new assessor takes over , and slowly begins to chip away at her determination. The secret she is hiding has already destroyed her world, and she will not let it hurt anyone else, but it turns out that she is far from the only one keeping secrets, and soon she will have to decide if she can trust anyone.
Action packed, and almost unbearably tense at times, with some really interesting characters, and a well crafted plot, this book was simply a pleasure to read. The pacing was excellent, and when the first big reveal came , about a third of the way through the book, I was completely hooked. I would recommend this book for fans of action based young adult reads such as the Maze Runner, but also for fans of properties like X-Men.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, KCP Loft, for giving me an ARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Whisper by Lynette Noni is an incredibly wonderful story. Well written and thought out, it led me with teaser after teaser into the depths of the Speakers world. Shrouded with mysteries and the unknown, I couldn't wait to turn the pages of this story in the hopes of discovering a new piece of information.

Whisper proved to be a great beginning to, what I sincerely pray, will be a multi-book series. It has all the elements of a great fantasy YA novel that will keep readers of all ages engaged and committed to soaking up every last detail of the story.

I, for one, am hooked... please write the second novel asap...

Enjoy the read!

Jane Doe, subject Six-Eight-Four, has been inside Lengard facility for two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes. Lengard is a government facility, and Jane is their test subject. Before she became Jane Doe, she had admitted herself to a psych ward and erased her entire past behind her, including her ability to speak. When she is found by Vanik, the top scientist at Lengard, she is assured that she has special abilities. But, every day she is used as a lab rat. She is prodded and experimented on. She is thrown into a cell at night and handcuffed during the day. Throughout those two years, Jane never says a word. That is, until a new evaluator takes an interest in Jane and develops a rapport with her. Little by little, Jane realizes that Lengard is not what she imagined. There is something more sinister underfoot.
Whisper is one of those novels where the less you know, the better. I tried to be overly vague on purpose in my description of Whisper, because nearly anything and everything is a massive spoiler alert. I was surprised how my attention was captured from the very first page. Hours flew by, and I kept turning pages unable to take a break. I had so many questions: what is Jane Doe’s real name? Why is she a monster? What is Lengard really? My questions were eventually answered, and I was thrilled to find a truly unique young adult novel hidden under all of its mystery.
Whisper falls under the category of science fiction and fantasy, though it tends to lean more on the science fiction side. There were hints of romance throughout the novel, but it is hardly the main focus. Instead, the interest of the story lies within Jane's acceptance of her identity. As this is the first novel in a series, I am very interested in how everything will play out. Once I arrived at the end of Whisper, there are still unanswered questions, but everything is wrapped up carefully while leaving just enough mystery to draw the readers back in for the sequel. I was only disappointed that the sequel could not arrive soon enough!

I don't remember asking for this book, as I didn't request it. But I'll give it a read when I can...and then review it on goodreads.

Science fiction set in Sydney! Goodies versus baddies but we take a long while to discover which is which. Deep tunnel complexes under Centre Point Tower and Taronga Zoo. What more could you ask for:)

I really enjoyed this young adult novel. Okay so there is a love triangle and our main character has amazing powers but does not know how to use them and the bad guy's laboratory is like something out of Frankenstein. It is still a fun book. It moves fast and a lot of very interesting world building takes place. I enjoyed all the characters and their different skills.

The ending wrapped this book up nicely but at the same time left it wide open for a sequel. I look forward to it.

Thank you for Pantera Press for providing me with this e-ARC of Whisper by Lynette Noni in exchange for an honest review. Whisper will be the next YA Fantasy/Sci-Fi series that everyone loves.

“Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.

I believed them. That was my mistake.

There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.

I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster."

Whisper is a science fiction novel that officially be released on the 1st of May, 2018. It follows the story of a young woman, who is called Jane Doe. We discover that Jane Doe has been a prisoner in a top secret government organisation in Australia, Lengard. Jane has been locked away and "experimented" on for the whole 2 an a half years at Lengard. She hasn't been outside for 2 and a half years, and she is hiding a dark secret. Jane meets with the "director" of the Lengard, and she is told that her time is running out, and that she has to prove herself to the "program".

The "director" assigns someone to evaluate her progress, to try to find her "power". This someone is Landon Ward, or "Ward" as he is more commonly known. Ward tries to chip away at her icy exterior, to try and get her to speak. As time goes on, Jane finds herself becoming attached to this handsome and kind stranger, and finally cracks. She unleashes her power, and comes to learn the truth about Lengard's mysterious "program".

Jane finds herself surrounded by mystery, betrayal, heartbreak, secrets and unanswered questions. She must fight for herself, her friends, and for others like her.

Lynette has done an amazing job of keeping the readers on the edge of our seats. I have heard that there is going to be a sequel, and maybe even a trilogy. I need more of this captivating story, I need to know what happens next!

I give this a 5/5 star rating.

Birdy xx
