Finding her childhood friends and making amends was one of Josephine Bettendorf Warrick’s dying wishes. Josephine and her two childhood friends had created THE HIGH TIDE CLUB during one night of fun.

The girls were lifelong friends until Josephine had words with them. Brooke Trappnell was hired by Josephine to find these women or their descendants because she wanted to leave her island to them since she had no children of her own.

Josephine is an ornery woman who wants what she wants. Brooke desperately needs the money so she takes this job.

Brooke wasn’t sure she would legally be able to take on this assignment because she and her mother surprisingly were named in the inheritance that included twenty acres of land and a pink mansion.

THE HIGH TIDE CLUB is set in Georgia and has eccentric, fun characters. We follow Brooke as she goes on her search for these women and/or family members.

We also get the treat of going back to 1941 and seeing first hand all of the antics and mischief THE HIGH TIDE CLUB girls got into along with secrets kept and heartaches.

Ms. Andrews smoothly goes from one time period to another linking both stories and keeping your interest with her marvelous, detailed writing style and story line.

The fun of finding these friends and/or family members made this book delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story line.

The story line became better every time I turned the page and especially when secrets were revealed about Josephine’s life and those in it.

The characters were the highlight for me as well as the location.

The island, its history, and its description made you want to be there with the characters.

I enjoyed the lives of the characters in 1941 as well as the present-day family members.

This was my first book by Mary Kay Andrews, and it was a very pleasant, entertaining read.

If you enjoy family sagas, secrets, and mysteries, you will want to read THE HIGH TIDE CLUB. 5/5

This book was given to me free of charge and without compensation by the publisher and NetGalley in return for an honest review.

The cover just screams beach read! The publishers know what they are doing because The High Tide Club is set to release on May 8th, just in time for the warm weather! We had snow flurries here in Toronto this morning :( I want summer!

99 year old, Josephine, invites Brooke, a struggling single mother and lawyer, to her remote island home. Josephine says that she needs Brooke to help her track down her old friends and their heirs so that she can make amends for what she has done. Brooke is up for the large task and is curious to learn more about Josephine. Brooke gets more than she bargained for and is uncovering secrets that haven’t never been shared in 80 years, which impacts her and her son.

I wish I read this on the beach. The imagery is beautiful when the author describes the remote island of Talisa, which is just off the coast of south Georgia. I was all set to go to this island and have some sweet tea!

The book flips back and forward between present day, mostly told through Brooke, and the 1940s when Josephine’s friend, Millie was set to marry. I loved the friendship of the 1940s women and how they would go skinny dipping when there was a full moon and high tide!

There are some mysteries involved, including a death in the 1940s, as well as the secrets that Josephine was hiding. You don’t have to be Sherlock Homes to get the mysteries, but it was nice seeing how everything came together.

I received an advanced copy from St. Martin's Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have read every book MKA has written, and though this one is not my favorite, it was an interesting story. Set on the fictitious barrier island off the coast of Georgia called Talisa, it was a grand southern saga somewhat different from MKA's usual stories. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is 99 years old and very close to death. She is determined to keep her family home on Talisa out of the hands of those who want to completely erase her legacy, as well as make amends with the heirs of her 3 best friends from long ago. The problem is finding an attorney who can accomplish that before she dies. Tired of the high priced lawyers from Atlanta who don't deliver, Josephine summons Savannah attorney Brooke Trappnell to her estate. Confused about why someone she has never met sends her a message to come to Talisa, Brooke decides to take the meeting. As Josephine tells her the story of her friends Millie, Ruth and Varina, the girls of The High Tide club, we are taken back to the time of her youth and the story begins to unfold. Highly entertaining, and not the usual quirky, comical beach reads, it was still a good story from one of my favorite authors.

I had no power yesterday so I sat and read this book . It was a great read. Love, friendship, lies, betrayal and restitution. Life is messy and so are these characters but you can't help but find yourself rooting for them. This story spans many years, starting in 1941 and up through the present. You get to see the choices that were made and the consequences and fall out from those decisions. So many people affected in ways no one could have predicted. Very enjoyable read !

INTRIGUING!

This book draws you in with its exotic private barrier island location, its unusual cast of characters and an intricate plot that will keep you guessing until the end! Throw in strained family relationships, other strained relationships, outlandish wealth, forbidden love, attempting to correct wrongs from the past, a dying eccentric widow with no known heirs, murder, romance, deception, deception and DECEPTION and you are in for an emotional story that will stay with you long after you’ve read the last page. It’s a story of love and loss, love and deception, love and hate, love and friendships that have endured for 70 years and reminds us that love never fails! I was provided an ARC by the Publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

**big thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to review this ebook!**

I love Mary Kay Andrews, so it isn't going to be a shock that I really enjoyed this book. It's more focused on friendships and the mystery, than romance. The little bit that there was, was clean and didn't play much into the story.

It stars Brooke, who is a single mom and a lawyer who finds herself called to Talisa Island by the main owner, Josephine Bettendorf Warrick, a woman in her 90s who wants to leave her holdings to the descendants of the women she was once friends with in the 40s. Not surprising most of those women were dead. That's how Brooke comes to meet Lizzie and Felicia, who quickly become good friends.

It does a lot of looking back, from different perspectives of the women in the High Tide Club. It's kind of fascinating to watch it all get mapped out. You will never be able to guess it all.

Totally worth it and a quick read, perfect for the beach or plane or just a cozy night at home.

This was my fist Mary Kay Andrews and really enjoyed it. Though I was expecting a fun read, as I have herad about this author, I still enjoyed the story. I know this will not be the only book I will read by this author. Though it's a bit more serious than I imagined, I still think it's a feel good story that I will undoubtedly recommend.

This is another great beach read from Mary Kay Andrews. It has a little bit of everything you need for a great vacation read - mystery, humor, romance and a southern landscape. The book starts in the past with a group of girls burying a man. Brooke gets a call from a dying eccentric heiress to come to her barrier island. She tells her she needs her to find her old friends or their descendants to make amends. You are quickly drawn the story as with any Mary Kay Andrews story. You keep going between the present day and the past to discover the secrets that the heiress and her island holds. You will love discovering the girls of the High Tide Club both past and present.

99 year old Josephine Bettendorf has Brooke Trappnell come to her home on Talisa Island. Josephine tells Brooke the story of her life over a few meetings. This is a great beach read with mystery and lots of secrets that keep you guessing until the end. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. All opinions are my own.

I have been a fan of Mary Kay Andrews since first hooking up in the series with Weezie and Bebe, and have enjoyed every read since. The High Tide Club was a thrill to read, as Brooke is hired as an attorney to help a dying wealthy Southern woman Josephine carry out her final plans to reunite the lost members of her youth called the High Tide Club - aptly named as it was during this time they would go skinny dipping!

Once Brooke meets with the ecentric Josephine and listens to her story that alternates from the present back to life in the bygone era, she takes on the task of bringing the club members or their heirs (her Grandmother was one of the Club members) back together to right some wrongs and spill some secrets.

This was a delightful read, full of quirky characters and a theme that unfolds taking the reading inside for a spellbinding adventure.

I especially love the chapters when the past was recalled and the grandeur of a different era,

Join the wave as this is a "must-read" and highly recommended for the beach or for any time.

You just can't go wrong with a Mary Kay Andrews novel.

By Mary Kate Andrews
What's it about:
When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm.
Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club—so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades—Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met.

My thoughts
This is my first Mary Kate Andrews book and I can see why people love her books so much , she has a way with words that brings to life the story as well as her characters, and blends the past and the future together .Her stories show what life was like back in the 1941 and how four girls came together as friends and keep a dark secret from everyone including each other . With this story she creates a tale that is suspenseful, emotional , and hopeful, with plenty of surprising twists that is non stop from begging to end. You see secrets bright to life that was meant to be kept in the dark and as this secrets come out you see how they play a role in bring together new friends and family . But not all of it is dark or gloomy there are parts that are funny as well and those part lighting up the dark ones . So with this said I would love to think Netgalley as well as the publishers for giving me a chance at reading and reviewing The High Tide and finding a new author to read in change for my honest opinion.

I have read all this authors book and this is by far the best one yet. I did not see all the twist coming and each one was better than the one before. Millie is my hero and her best friend Josephine was a villain. The men did not far well in this story except for Henry. When my kindle told me how long it would take to finish the story I did not believe the time, more than 6 hours, I would have gladly read another 6, the book was so good. Thank you Mary Kay for such a great book. I look forward to the next.

I have read most of Mary Kay Andrews books and she does not disappoint with The High Tide Club. I loved this story. I am a southern girl so I love that that the story is set in Georgia on a small island. MKA does an amazing job with developing the characters. they are full of life and strong willed. The “mystery” will keep your guessing until the very end. Very well done, a page turner for sure.

This is the story of a group of young women who were once the best of friends, the members of the High Tide Club. They became estranged and hadn’t been in contact for years. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is a 99 year old rich curmudgeon who is dying. She was once a member of the High Tide Club and now wants to make amends for past wrongs. She hires Brooke, a single mother, to handle her legal affairs and find the old members of the club. Josephine is very cagey about the wrongs she wants to make up for, but tells a story of an unsolved murder, betrayal and secrets. Josephine is also trying to keep the state from taking over her island and time is running out for her.

The author does a great job of bringing the characters to life, they practically jump off the page. The story is told in the present with chapters telling the story of the past events that had such a great impact on everyones life. The book gives you a great feel for southern traditions too. It is also a story about women and their relationships, friendships and the ability to forgive. This is not a light read like most of Andrews books but it is filled with emotion. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.

This book was a real mixed bag for me. Firstly, the cover doesn't not suit the story at all. Secondly this book was long and dragged on in places. However, I did really enjoy the book overall. What a great mix of characters that spanned over almost 100 years. The story was well done when it came to going back and forth between past and present. There was a lot of mystery and twists and turns that kept me turning the pages and kept the long book being interesting. I will definitely be looking for another Mary Kay Andrews book to read.

I've heard of Mary Kay Andrews, and have actually picked up a few of her novels, started them, and put them down. However, I was offered book by the publisher, and after reading a few books that I didn't enjoy, I decided to try this one.

First of all, the good. The setting. I love Southern fiction and this one does not disappoint. Set on a fictional island off the coast of Georgia, I could almost smell the ocean throughout the novel. I also really liked the characters. There were a few extraneous ones (Lizzie and C.D. were pretty annoying throughout most of the novel), but overall I felt like they were well written. Also, the pacing was good. This book is LONG (almost 500 pages), yet I didn't feel like it suffered a whole lot from the length, and the story carried along at a good pace.

Next, the so-so. The romance seemed forced, between Brooke and Gabe and between Brooke and Pete. In fact it could have been left out entirely.

Last, the bad. I feel like the cover art on the novel is VERY misleading. While this book is set at the beach, I wouldn't classify it as a beach read. I wasn't expecting what I got based on the cover art, and for me that's a good thing, because I really enjoyed this. But others may be unpleasantly surprised.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book!

As typical of Mary Kay Andrews's books, this one was great. I absolutely love her writing and the characters in her books. I especially enjoyed how this book flashed back to the 1940's south. It was a quick entertaining read. Thanks the the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

I always enjoy books by Mary Kay Andrews, and this story didn't miss a beat.
Brooke is a single mother and a lawyer who is contacted to handle a large estate and the challenges that come with it. As the story unfolds, we learn more about Brooke's past, her client's past, and the twists and turns that comes with it. The story incorporates flashbacks very well. As the story progressed, there were some unexpected little twists that drew me in.

More of a 2.5 but I rounded up because I didn’t hate it. I hate reviewing books like these because I can’t come up with the verbal equivalent of a shrug.

Feels like an easy beach read for people who want a little good natured mystery without getting too gritty or dark. We’ll call it mystery-lite. It had its issues but I don’t really think it was trying to be the next great thriller.

Mary Kay Andrews is a combination of fiction, mystery and just fun. I really like her books and The High Tide Club is no exception. I will say I thought one thing was happening and she did surprise me in the end. This book is perfect for the beach, the spring, the fall or anytime you want to lose yourself in a good read. I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for twists and turns and really interesting characters.
