Emily has finally met the man she wants to marry: Adam. Successful and handsome, he seems to be a great catch. Their relationship moves forward quickly, but meets a roadblock. That roadblock is named Pammie. She's Adam's devoted mother, and she is not ready to welcome Emily to the family. At all. In fact, there seems to be nothing she isn't willing to do to stop their upcoming marriage. While Emily is frustrated and angry by her obvious interference, she seems simply paranoid and overly sensitive when she tries to explain her feelings: to Adam and even to herself. At first her interference seems minor, but it isn't long before things start getting really crazy.

Emily seems to be making Adam fit the narrative of a great man when in fact he has several troubling aspects to his personality. While I think that's actually pretty common when someone becomes determined to be happy with a particular person, she had a lot of weakness to her character that turned me off. I would have appreciated her more with a bit more strength. All in all, it was a decent read that I did find enjoyment in but it took me quite awhile to get through and I didn't connect with the main character. A lot of the twists were unexpected but implausible. 3 stars from me. I'd say this would be a nice end of summer read: grab it on a day off and enjoy the craziness.

As the beginning of the school year approached, I fell behind in reading this book, which, coincidentally, was a stroke of luck for me. Generally, my reading slows considerably due to the demands of teaching, and I need a great book to keep me engaged. This book ended up being the perfect company for me! I found myself eager to come home so that I could find out what Pammie would do next. The author has masterfully crafted a character so unlikable and maddening, that the ending truly does catch you off guard. Pammie was so unlikable, and just like everyone has said, it makes you grateful for any perceived grievances you may have with your in laws. For anyone who is searching for a read that will hold your attention and keep those pages turning, I would recommend The Other Woman.

This book is suspenseful in that Emily's mother-in-law will just make you so tense! Whether Pammie is evil or just awful is up in the air for a long time, but toward the middle of the book I started to suss out where it was going. Usually I like figuring out the ending, but for this type of book that revolves around plot twists, it was a little too obvious for my liking. Still, Jones does some great things with characters (at least female characters, wasn't sold on Adam) and clearly has some good ideas, so I would certainly read her second book.

I loved this book from the first page to the last. I did not see the ending coming at all. For a debut novel, Sandie sure knows how to write a great thriller. Emily was not only likeable - but loveable. I thought Sandie did a tremendous job in keeping me turning the pages as fast as I could.

It took me 2 days to read this book. I found it very suspenseful. Loved the tension between Emily and Pammie. What a twist at the end! I did not see that coming!

After reading the description of the book, I was so excited to start reading this book. It hooked me at the beginning but then fizzled out when things kept getting more and more unrealistic. It was like too many plot twists and filler drama. I stuck with the book and finished it and was a little surprised at how it all ended but there was definitely some major foreshadowing throughout the book that could easily point readers to the ending. Overall it was a solid book and an interesting read but I thought it had a lot more potential.

Stop what you are doing. Order this book and settle down for a fast paced thriller with an ending you won't see coming. This is a deliciously wicked story, that will entertain you and keep you turning the pages until all is revealed. This is Jones debut novel and she doesn't disappoint.


Emily has met and is in love with the perfect man. Adam is everything she wished for and then more. He is loving, caring and attentive. Emily is head over heels in love with him. Her friends think she is moving too fast but Emily is smitten and feel safe.

Emily becomes a bit suspicious when Adam is hesitant to introduce her to his mother but when that day finally arrives, she find out maybe it's best had she never met her. His mother, Pammie is manipulative, callus and makes it clear to Emily, that she isn't good enough for her son. Pammie will go to any length to make sure, Emily isn't a part of their lives and as the relationship between Adam and Emily grows, Pammie becomes more calculated and Emily's foe.

Thank you netgalley for the free eARC. This book took me awhile to get into. Pammie made me so mad, that I had to stop reading, multiple times. Once I got about half way through, the book picked up fast, and I couldn't put it down. The ending was insane and made me finally understand Pammie!! If you are looking for a good thriller, this is a good choice.

An absolutely incredible story of evil and relationships.. Chock full of twists and turns that take you by such surprise that leave you open-mouthed. Riveting novel that never lets you go.

Wait. Getting ahead of myself.

This book is your pretty basic, girl meets boy - girl falls in love with boy - boy proposes - girl's future mother in law is an evil monster kind of story. I loved it from the very beginning. It sucks you in with characters that you aren't sure if you love, hate, or love to hate. I don't want to say much about this novel because it is twisty and intriguing and I don't want to accidentally spoil anything. Read it. Be thrilled by that crazy ending. Enjoy every minute of it. I know I did.

This book was slow and just ok for me. I like a fast paced thriller and this book didn't have all the elements I like in a mystery/thriller.

This is the story of relationships between Emily, her boyfriend Adam, and his dramatic and manipulative mother Pammie. Point blank: this is an impressive debut.

Highlights: As someone in a new relationship, I could relate to meeting your boyfriend’s mother and trying to make sense of the relationship. I liked how all the relationship red flags that I hear about far too often from both my patients and my friends were woven into the plot.

What makes this book unique? The ending presents a plot twist I didn’t see coming and shattered my assumptions built throughout the book; but I did have a hard time believing it.

Explanation of Rating: 4.5/5: This is an engrossing and fast paced book that that me laughing at some times and cringing at others. I couldn’t wait to see what Pammie would pull next.

Psychology Factors: There are many important lessons about relationships and there were several reds flags to me commonly seen in relationships early on. You should always have an “Ex’s” talk; Emily rationalizes that a dead girlfriend wouldn’t have fit into any of their conversations to this point nor would the subject of her ex. It is common skirt around not wanting to get too serious too soon, yet Emily describes her relationship with Adam as intense. Emily notes “unexplained changes in Adam’s behavior and assumes it’s work.” She kept quiet about things that bugged her but they came out eventually. Bottom line: Communication makes or breaks relationships.

Favorite Quotes: “I really like him and don’t want to do anything to jeopardize it. I’m sure it’ll work it’s way out eventually.” This is another sign of poor communication.

This novel makes for great fiction; but read it and learn from it. These issues happen in real life more than we realize. This is the perfect read to make you appreciate your significant other’s mother and realize that someone always has it worse.

The Other Woman A Novel by Sandie Jones published by St. Martin's Press. Sandie Jones you are amazing and I cannot tell you how much I loved this novel. Thank you to all parties for my arc I cannot wait to see what is next. Emily was content with life. Her job was going well and she had some great friends. She wasn't even looking for a boyfriend. But then she met Adam, the man of her dreams. What you as the reader feel is a whirlwind romance with the perfect man or that is what Sandie wants us to think. A few months into their relationship Emily feels self-conscious about why this wonderful man has yet to introduce her to his mother…. If you are anything like me the first thing that you are thinking is why not?? She is a great girl and Emily is an awesome character and you really feel for her. When he finally decides to introduce them poor Emily goes above and beyond to look perfect and the poor girl starts off on the wrong foot. On their way to meet his mother, Emily asks about his mother and he states that she's like any other mother, that she's a good woman. When Emily makes a rather innocent joke, Emily is shocked at how angry Adam gets. He feels her joke is disrespectful to his mother. They head on to visit his mom, Pammie. Some strange things happen during that first visit to his mother's house, but Emily chalks it all up to nerves and tells herself she's over analyzing things. 

But it's their next visit when Emily realizes that while Adam may be the man of her dreams, Emily is also in for a nightmare...and that nightmare is Adam's mother, Pammie. I have to be honest with you when I read this I was thinking Monster-in-Law meets a really good Lifetime movie. I don’t want to give away the end but READ IT!!!!!!!

The other women is a grab and hold you kind of book. You want a book that you’ll be up reading all night, here it is. You must read this......your loss if you don’t. This is a story about Emily and Adam who fall in love and want to marry, but Adam’s mom, Pammie, has other plans. This mother will stop at nothing to get her precious Adam back. Just a heads up...you will not want to put this book down....and twist ending that I did not see coming. :)

What happens when you meet the man of your dreams but he comes with baggage in the form of his mother? Emily meets Adam and she feels that she has found the most perfect man ever. The only problem is that his psycho mother doesn't want Emily in the picture. Pammie is so wicked and so evil, she makes the worst mother-in-law on the planet seem like an angel. She is controlling and manipulative of her darling son. Adam is fully under her spell and Emily needs to see this before she marries into this family. Pammie seems bent on setting traps that Emily will fall in, that will make her look bad in Adam's eyes.

The ending is a twist you will not see coming. Sadie Jones has created some brilliant characters for this novel. The short chapters added to the appeal of this book!

This book was SO good! I feel like if I write too much it will give the story away but you NEED to read this if you love twists and turns. Pammie/Pamela is the soon to be mother in law you love to hate. Adam the knight in shining armor but you find out is a mama's boy and maybe a few other skeletons in the closet. James is his brother you think you like but does he have ulterior motives? Emily, the woman in love and bride to be, antagonized by Adam's mother, will love conquer all?

I finally caught on to how things were going to end towards the end of the book but it didn't ruin anything like some other books can do. Looking forward to reading more books by Sandie Jones!

I sat on writing the review for this one only because I had no idea what to write. When a book takes you so off-guard, even for someone who writes a lot, you are left without words. This book reads very quickly and entraps you so immensely there is just not a way out until the very end. Which, hits you like a ton of bricks. Psychology is my forte and yet trying to understand the motives, characters and actions will leave you breathless. This was fantastic!!

I struggled writing this review because the book has so much positive feedback. I wasn't as in love with the story as others have been. I found it being a  bit predictable and I started to uncover the story myself. I also felt that some of the story was left without explanation. I was left wondering about main characters and where they were left off.

During the read, I felt that the love story was rushed through. More details would have been helpful.  There were entire sections that were rushed where it would automatically just be days later without any warning or explanation.

Emily was also unlikable. She could not do much of anything for herself always relying on someone for miniscule things and happenings in which I would understand if she got help or advice for, she stayed quiet. Her character was not consistent. 

For me, there were too many flaws, unanswered questions, and just things that made no sense for me to enjoy this.

From the moment I read the title of Sandie Jones' debut novel,The Other Woman, I was instantly intrigued.  I like to go into books blindly, but I skimmed the synopsis and couldn't WAIT to get my hands on this! The Other Woman was everything I could have hoped for... AND SO MUCH MORE!

This is story of a classic "Monster-In-Law".  Pammie is calculating and manipulative and she's an absolute nightmare to Emily, who is dating her prize son Adam.  This woman pulls every trick in the book to ruin their relationship.  She's on a mission and this is a woman that gets everything she wants. But Emily refuses to go down in flames, and Pammie quickly realizes that she just might have met her match.  The heinous acts that Adam's mother commits would have me running for the hills.

The Other Woman is extremely well written.  This was a very exciting read full of shock and dismay!  Kudos to Sadie on her first release!  She is, without a doubt, a new author to follow!

Wow. This was so good. A twisty, page turner, suspenseful thriller that I could not stop reading. A fast read for me but I tried to savor every minute of it. A fantastic debut novel and i cannot wait read more book of this author.
