Skye has magic, she has grown up with it but she fears it. She has been told she has great power but because she can’t control it, she is dangerous and must be bound. She hurt her twin River as a child and has never forgiven herself. An adult now, she lives with her friends, runs a successful childcare centre and visits her housebound brother as often as possible.
Her life is turned upside down when Jason McVale knocks her on her arse while on the ski runs. He is a were, a shifter, of course the alpha of the pack and he needs Skye to use her magic to help his pack. While Jason intended just to get her back to his pack where she belongs, nothing goes to plan. Jason soon realises she doesn’t know what he is, she isn’t using her magic, and she doesn’t remember her childhood. Also he is wildly attracted to her and in sleeping with her sets of her magic almost killing her and the mate bond kicks in.
While she tries to fight her attraction to Jason and work out what is happening to her and why her grandparents lied to her, Jason lurks on the edges, wooing her, trying to help her remember and protecting her.
This was a fun read. I loved that it was set in Australia, so I knew of some of the places mentioned. There was an interesting history, the bond between witches and wolves was not something I have come across before. It was really cool and I’m looking forward to the next book.
The first in the series, we get a lot of backstory and worldbuilding which you can expect from any first book, but it doesn’t detract from Skye and Jason’s story at all. They still shine through. Jason is an adorable alpha, they way he treats Skye is pretty great. Because neither characters have all the information, there is a lot of confusion and misunderstandings. At times this could make for frustrating reading and I do think some of the twist and turns where a little over the top. We are very much lead in one direction and then a random SURPRISE is thrown in our faces, but it was still an enjoyable read.
The side characters were fun and I look forward to getting into their stories in the next couple of books. From what I can gather, River will get his story told as well as Adam, Jason’s brother. I liked Jason’s relationship with his brother. He has a huge amount of respect for him and we discover just how important Adam is to the pack. I can’t wait for him to get his happy ever after.
All in all a fun quick read. I have book 2, Moon Bound, so I will be reading that soon.

Pack Bound was one of the titles I found on NetGalley and it has taken me quite sometime to get to it on my reading list. That being said, I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book. Leighton does a great job at bringing many elements together. I would say the book is more on the adult fiction side because of the graphic sex scenes and a sexual assault/rape scene, but all the sexual content was well handled and tasteful. They were not over the top and by no means is that the focus of the book. It's not an erotic fiction, but does have some erotic scenes. Leighton does not hold back on the swearing either, which I absolutely loved because it added to the relatability of the character's and the intensity of the situations.

Pack Bound is about a young lady named Skye who has no recollection of her childhood other than the tragedy that left her and her twin brother orphaned. However, she will have to face her past and rise up to her responsibilities and harness her magical powers. Skye comes from a long line of witches and warlocks and she belongs to a pack of Werewolves. Every pack has a Pack-Witch/ Warlock and every pack is reliant on their Pack-Witch. They share a symbiotic relationship. It has been this year for hundreds of years and without a Pack-Witch the coven will be Cursed and die off. Skye is that witch for the McClune coven but she is oblivious to that fact until now.

I have to give credit to Leighton because this book was written well and had an undeniable flow that kept the reader enticed and longing to know what the next page had to offer. The book was not boring at all even though certain aspects of the book have been over played the past few years like werewolves, witches, soulmates, curses etc. Leighton does a good job at bringing these old concepts into a refreshing take and at the the very least creates a story that makes you curious how these concepts will play out.

Leighton builds her characters with many different traits and none of them are one dimensional, which makes the reader empathize with each character. Some of the characters you want to hate but as you read on you can not deny why they committed such deceivingly evil behaviours. Leighton makes in clear in her book that relationships overall are a fierce driving force and they are not to be taken lightly.

Skye is an easy character to like and understand. She is an ambitious and fiery young lady with the ability to empathize with others, but denies herself her own emotions and desires. We get to watch as Skye expands and grows in her own understanding of her feelings and how to manage them, but also witness her genuine fear of what that could mean for those she loves.  Bron and Shelley are Skye's best friends and they are Wiccans (not as powerful as witches/warlocks). Shelley is a beautiful blonde bombshell but she seems very introverted and observant rather than vying to be centre of attention, which I enjoyed. I think as the series continues we will learn more about Shelley and peel back some of those layers. Bron is the outgoing and brutally honest one. She does not hold back on her thoughts or questions and is very knowledgeable as a healer. Again, as the series progresses I can see more light being shone on Bron's character. Then there is Jason and Adam, the Were brother's. Jason is  the Alpha of the McClune coven and will stop at nothing until Skye is his mate and their Pack-Witch. You can feel Jason's strength through the pages of the book and his confidence as a leader. He is very sure of what his goals are and he is full of determination. Adam is the Trickster of the coven, which means that he tries and keeps everyone lighthearted and well spirited. Skye slowly discovers that Adam is more than just a jokester and that there is more to his character. He is a cultured individual and enjoys cooking, but I have a feeling we will find out more about him in future books. River is Skye's twin brother who never leaves their grandmother's house because his mind is unwell. Morrigan is Skye's grandmother and Skye has a complicated relationship with her and her grandfather Harrison. There are things that Skye is unaware of and will have to come to terms with and why her grandparent's made certain decisions for her.

I will not ruin who the antagonist is but I will say that Leighton does a good job at tying everything together at the end of the book and developing a good cliffhanger to continue the series.

I did not realize that Leighton did not develop a thorough setting in her novel until I sat down to think about the book and this was because the plot and characters continued to have the reader engulfed with their story lines. There were places but nothing was described in-depth, but because of this the reader could envision the scene to their own personal preference.

I really enjoyed seeing how all the characters interacted and how Leighton did not neglect anyone, or use any one dimensional characters as plot movers. Even though a fair bit of the concepts have been played out over and over again, I couldn't help but read on and get lost in the book. I could not wait to read the second book in the series and if I'm being honest I've started reading Moon Bound. Already it is apparent that the reader is seeing some of the depth of the other characters like River, Bron and the antagonist (which I have left unnamed). Actually I am chomping at the bit to continue reading the next book, so with that I will leave you to get into Pack Bound. Definitely worth a read if you are into fantasy, magic, Were, witches, curses and revenge plots.

500 years ago a witch cursed a pack of werewolves. The pack alpha, Jason has discovered a powerful witch and is surprised to find out she is his mate. Skye is afraid to use her magic because of an accident that put her twin in a coma was her fault. Together they attempt to change the curse before an ancient witch uses Skye and her twin in a death ceremony to regain her youth and unlimited power. The story will thrill fans who like paranormal romances. This is book one in a series. I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really got into this book. Skye is scared of her magic. She has been taught that it is bad and all she does is hurt people with it/because of it. Jason is now pack leader and needs Skye to take her place as their pack witch. The problem is, she doesn't remember anything. I felt bad for both Skye and Jason at the start. Skye is just oblivious and it is obvious that she is terrified. Jason is so frustrated because he knows she knows but cannot force her remember.
Jason's nephew may have been my favorite character, though his brother is a close second. Honestly, all the characters in the book were well done. I did figure out who the 'bad guy' was before the reveal but I hadn't figured out all the ins and outs of it. Skye's twin, I was heartbroken for. There are a lot of emotions through the book and it was really well written.
It was a 4/5 for me. I am ready to read the next book of the series!

Thank you to the publisher/author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Probably 3.5 for the interesting world building.

This is the first in the series and as such had some heavy lifting to do in world building. The concept is a world where witch covens and werewolf packs are bound together to push against an evil darkness that was destroying the werewolves. The witch power feeds through the pack and empowers them and enables them to "change".

I really liked the concept and was intrigued by how it was drawn together to create this world. The book, probably books, are set in Australia and I would have liked to have some hint about what brought an ancient werewolf pack and their witches to Australia. Given that wolves are so territorial.

The romance is between Skye Collins, a pack witch who was kidnapped as a child and hidden and Jason McVale, the new alpha of the pack Skye is supposed to be bound to.

When Jason finds Skye, he is shocked that she doesn't recognised him or what he is and that she doesn't seem to have any control over her witch powers. But he needs her desperately for the survival of the pack and for his own need as her destined mate, so he pursues.

Skye is bound by fear. So much so that I found her annoying a lot of the time. It's not her fault. It's been forced onto her by her grandparents who had their own motivations for keeping her from her destiny. And it's not as simple as it first appears. But still annoying.

I found the story very uneven at times. Even the quite well written initial smex scene between Skye and Jason lacked a connection for me. I was really, can we just get on with the story, so perhaps it simply came a little too early for me. Then things would happen and I'd be totally involved. Then Skye would be annoying. Jason and his brother Adam and nephew Tom were totes adorbs BTW, as was River, the tortured twin brother of Skye. River's story is next up.

It's a big ask, introducing an entire world concept and I think this is the strength of the book. It does have an ongoing conflict arc so be warned that if you want to know the end, you will probably have to read all four books.

The characters are well drawn (even the annoying ones). I am intrigued by River and the final story about Adam and Shelly looks like being a doozy.

The climax in this story is engrossing and very edge of the seat. Even if Skye was still a bit annoying.

Overall, if you are interested in a nice witch coven slash werewolf series, this could be an appealing read.

First story I've read by Leisl Leighton and it was certainly a unique and interesting one. I liked the magical plot. GOod

I received a copy of Pack Bound by Leisl Leighton from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was intrigued by the summary and wanted to like this novel, but it was a chore to keep reading at times. The characters and threads of plot could have been pulled together better (more linear). There were flashes of real goodness, but then the story would get bogged down or off track.

Also, the primary characters' interactions seemed stilted and did not have great chemistry together.

I would try reading another book by Leisl Leighton to see if a future novel would improve in pacing and character development, but I wouldn't re-read this novel.

Wow! I have found a new author to read! Leisl Leighton brings readers a new paranormal romance series – Pack Bound - about a symbiotic relationship between wolves and witches and a group that would do anything to destroy their bond.

In the first book – Pack Bound – we find the Alpha of Pack McVale searching for their pack witch but what he ends up finding is so much more. Jason and Skye are strong, captivating characters with some electrifying chemistry that readers can feel sparking from every page. Their romance however is full of turmoil and obstacles that the couple must overcome in order to have their ever after which inspires readers to empathize with the couple while adding depth to the story.

Suspense and anticipation builds throughout the fast paced plot that is full of thrills, secrets and danger which keeps readers on the edge of their seats while unforeseen twist and turns throughout keeping them guessing. The magic in the story adds excitement and just who the bad guys are is anyone’s guess until the disclosure and the antagonist is one that sent shivers down my spine and the plans are the stuff of nightmares.

Leisl Leighton has created a world full of intrigue and captivating characters that draw you into the story and hold readers hostage until the very end. I was certainly spellbound throughout and I can’t wait to read the Moon Bound, which will be released in a couple of weeks.

3 1/2 Star Review.....

An interesting start to the Pack Bound series by Leisl Leighton, Pack Bound was an overall good read with engaging characters. So, while there were parts of the story I found a little slow and Skye came across as somewhat whiny, I do look forward to reading what the author has in store for the next instalment in this series.

I was really excited about reading this book, because it’s about witches.
But I have to admit it was quite a disappointment for me.
This story is about Skye, who possesses magic which we learn directly at the start of the story. She also lives together with the friends (?) who also have some powers.
This book had 190 pages on my ereader, and in the first 100 pages not much happened. At that point I lost my attention for this story, so I lost my focus for the rest of the story.
I give this book 2 stars because it was to slow and too simple.

It’s a very interesting concept on the story and I find intriguing and want to see what is going to happen.

The first few pages were dry for me since I am not a skier. By chapter 2 though things were looking up! By the middle (well before that actually), I was hooked! I love all the characters, not just the main ones. I hate the bad guys and am [very] intrigued by the plot line. I read nonstop because I had to know what exactly happened in her past. The further along I get in this story, the more I love it!

Admittedly, the first bit is not plot line heavy. It reads somewhat as an erotic novel and it takes a while before the author got into the thick of the actual story and away from steamy make out scenes. That said, her sex scenes were very well written. There was passion and lust and thankfully it didn't span a ridiculous amount of pages and compromise the book. I feel as though if you stick it through the beginning (and let me tell you that is easy to do because she tempts you with mind blowing sex. The time passes really fast!) you will love it because once you truly meet the characters, there is no going back! She is a very well balanced author and I will definitely be reading the sequels!

This is a dnf, I strongly urge the writer to do a rewrite. This story was ALL over the place. This seems to be a big series go to now since the originals and vampire diaries hit the tv but for me the story was choppy and hard to follow. I put it down several times only to be more confused when I picked it back up. Format the story line and be a little more descriptive. Sorry but I won't finish the series. I won't post my reviews to other sites either since this was a dnf.
