I received an ARC for an honest review. This book was very interesting. I knew it was going to be a love story but there was so much more than the love between Catherine and Elliot. It is a dual POV book. I really liked seeing each of their perspectives. The mystery is something that is quiet twisted. The secret that Catherine has to keep really puts the entire book in turmoil. Elliot was such a sweetheart. He wasn’t the perfect boy and that is what made him so realistic. He had his faults but he knew that he did and was always trying to be better. His devotion to Catherine was incredibly sweet. I would for sure recommend this book. When it comes out you really should buy it and read it immediately.

The story of 2 kids with a bit of a crap life. Fighting parents, jobs lost, hardly no friends. And they find solace in each other.....which turns into more.

Although it felt like it dragged in places, it was beautiful. I really loved Elliott and Catherine.

'His words felt like a sunrise, a sunset, a beautiful dream, waking from a nightmare. It was every wonderful moment balled into one.'

But that secret though....never saw that coming in the slightest!!!

I was provided an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

In telling Catherine and Elliot’s story the author touches on many topics, including racism, bullying, friendship, small town dynamics and a secret that Catherine in keeping. The secret is a rather big angle in the story and I thought at one point I had the "it" figured out, just not the why. Boy was I wrong (yet right also), that was a twist that I never would have guessed. The secret and the mystery surrounding certain things is what finally made me stick with the book and finish it after a very slow start. Overall it made the book redeeming for me. If you are looking for a good read with a twist and you can handle a slow start then I recommend you read this book. #NetGalley #AllTheLittleLights

Jamie Mcguire is the author of one of my most favorite books ever: Beautiful Disaster. So, when I saw that I received this ARC from the publisher/NetGalley, I was beyond ecstatic. I handed off our baby to my husband, and settled in on my papasan, holding onto my kindle for dear life.

The story is told in first person point of view, alternating between the main characters, Elliot and Catherine. I did notice that there were more chapters from Catherine's POV compared to Elliot's, and I found myself wanting more of the latter. Elliot and Catherine meet in early high school, but were separated due to family circumstances. When they reunite during their senior year, they try to make their relationship work, but secrets and mysteries prove to make things difficult.

In comparison to Jamie McGuire's other books, I found myself not as invested in Catherine and Elliot's relationship, but I'll admit they do have their cute moments. The book started off kind of slow, when we were introduced to how Elliot and Catherine met. In the second half of the book, things really picked up. There were hints at something Catherine was hiding about her family/home, which was really intriguing! I found myself not being able to put down my kindle because I just had to find out what the gosh darn secret was. And boy, it did not disappoint! I had several theories as to what could possibly be so terrible that it kept her away from her friends and threatened her relationship with Elliot. ALL WRONG, btw. When it was finally revealed, I was so shocked that I re-read the paragraph several times because it was so crazy. Although it may have seem strange to other readers, I absolutely LOVED this twist. I just didn't see it coming. I don't want to spoil anything so I will stop there and let everyone read it for themselves!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I've read many of her other books in the Beautiful/Maddox Brothers series, and I loved them all (Beautiful Disaster is a yearly re-read for me). Readers will find, though, that this book differs a bit -- a little more suspense/mystery, with a side of romance, minus the intense angst. I would definitely recommend this book for those who want a quick read!

Now that I've finished ATLL I've glanced over some reviews. I understand that this book is quite different from a lot of Ms. McGuire's other novels. I myself feel that it shows the diversity of her writing skills and that if I wanted the same regurgitated story then I'd just reread something I know I already love.

I've seen a lot of reviews that say it was "Strange" and you know what it totally was and that's what really drew me in. I'm kinda strange sometimes and love things that are different. It was so out of the norm and nothing that I was even remotely expecting so I absolutely gorged on this book and kinda wished I had taken my time to savour it a bit more.

The secret was quite a twist. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!!! When an author can throw in a twist that I cannot figure out try as I might, then you have my full attention.

I loved both Elliott and Catherine. They met at a time when they needed each other and were wrenched apart from each other at such a crucial time in Catherine's life and she doesn't find out until two years later why Elliott was torn out of her life so suddenly. I would say this was a twisted coming of age story.

All the Little Lights was absolutely brilliant in all it's twisted glory!!!!

First of all, massive thanks to Netgalley and Montlake Romance for providing me an ARC of All The Little Lights.

It´s been a while since I got my last McGuire book fix so I took my sweet time with this one.
And what can I say. Sweet baby Jesus. McGuire herself said that it´s a darker- ish Young Adult story and I personally haven´t seen that much darkness in the beginning because we have sweet, sweet Elliot who is seriously is just the cutes young man ever. How he tries to get Catherine´s heart is just so, so cute.
But once your ways cross the plot twist from the book, I promise you there will be darkness. I won´t spoil anything because everyone has to go into it without knowning anything because I have not seen that one coming.
I´ll probably need some time until I´ll get over ATLL.

5 STARS!

So. I really, really wanted to like this book. The truth is I don't now how I feel about it at all, and that bothers me. It had all the makings of being something really, really good but it was both slow at times and a little to ambitious at others, and that just made it fall very short for me.

The beginning of the story was cute, about how they met when they were a bit younger and about how both their families functioned. It was a really great set up for the future part of the story where they met again a few years down the road, but it just never clicked well for me. It was just like the chemistry wasn't there, and that the pacing was sort of strange. It felt like things were moving at a pretty fast clip with their relationship and how things progressed, but at the same time the book itself was progressing woefully slow. It bored me at times, and I just couldn't keep interested all the time.

I wish they had done more with Elliott's native heritage and how people treated him because of it. It got brought up when it was necessary for the plot, but the rest of the time felt pretty shunted aside. I didn't like that, and I wish that they had used that more and explored it a bit more in depth. I also started to dislike Catherine after awhile, because of her wishy-washy tendencies. She was a very yes-no-no-yes-yes-no type, and that became a bit grating.

I did like the ending though! It had an interesting plot twist that I didn't sort out beforehand, which is always appreciated. It was very M. Night Shyamalan, but I liked that about it and so it redeemed itself at the end!

All in all, it wasn't a bad book. Just a little to dull at times, and not enough of the stuff I wanted to see more of.

I LOVE ALL THINGS MCGUIRE!!!!!!! Jamie McGuire did not disappoint with this YA! This amazing read had me in my feels from the very first page. This book is going to make a great addition to our library catalog and I already know some of our teen patrons that are going to love it!

Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy of this book so I could give my honest review on this book.

A little slow to begin with but once you get into it the story picks up and it held my attention and kept me interested. I love both the main characters Elliott and Catherine. A great love story, that I really enjoyed with good writing. I would definitely recommend for those who enjoy her other books and want a good romance.

Anyone who's looking into YA or NA will stumble upon Jamie Mcguire in 5 minutes. I enjoyed her previous books quite a lot and was eager to read something new! Thanks to Netgalley for this opportunity.
Sadly this story wasn't my cup of tea. While I was so looking forward, especially Elliotts Cherokee background, it wasn't much of a topic in the end. I also was hoping to get more on his photography, but again, not happening. What you get is all on Catherine, and sadly that was a girl I couldn't warm with. With the "big twist" happening I still didn't know why it was such a big deal not to tell Elliot what was happening. Many times the book frustarted me only because of the non communication.
When the big Mystery got revealed it is known that several others got killed?! But again, the writer didn't elaborated on that.
I enjoyed the writing style, as with the previous books, it is a really nice and easy read.

This book started out a little slow but really picked up about half way through or so. It held my attention because the story is super interesting and I love both the main characters but until Elliott comes back for good, it is kind of slow. Elliott falls in love with Catherine when he is like 8 and sees her through his camera lens. He sees her every summer but never talks to her until the summer after their freshman year. Catherine lives in a big huge mansion that is basically falling apart amid her parents money troubles. That summer, Elliott and Catherine spend all their time together and get really close. Then Elliott has to leave suddenly without saying goodbye on the same day that Catherine's father dies. He basically disappears for 2 years and Catherine hears nothing from him, her heart broken. Both characters are strong and even stronger together. Catherine's mom has turned their house into a bed and breakfast but she is obviously hiding something from Elliott. They get so much closer but she still will not tell him what she is hiding in her home. Elliott loves Catherine so much and stands by her and with through bullying, false murder accusations, racial slurs etc etc. I do not want to ruin the twist in the story, but it was TOTALLY unexpected! I was completely caught off guard which to me is the sign of a great novel. I had my suspicions but they were entirely wrong. A true love story, Elliott and Catherine somehow manage to deal with everything thrown there way. Definitely worth reading!

It was really a surprise to me how suspenseful this story was. Definitely one of those where there is some sort of puzzle you are trying to work out, and there are a lot of things that aren't quite right. All the Little Lights was a stay up late at night trying to finish it kind of book. And I felt super lucky to be granted an arc of it, especially with how much I love this author.

Elliot and Catherine have a very intense and strong young love. It spans over years and even being separated. NOTHING can keep them apart. They are both very serious teenagers, and go to a school that proves just how cruel kids can be. They both have family problems, and can lean on one another. Though Catherine does spend a lot of time pushing him away.

This was gripping and raw, unique and fascinating. Certainly shocking. Unexpected and fanfreakingtastic. Maybe my fave read this year.

All the Little Lights by Jamie McGuire was an interesting and fairly good read. Told from dual POV’s, but mostly from Catherine’s, I am not sure how I would classify this read. Its YA, but it has a bit of mystery, suspense, and romance. If you are looking for a more adult YA read, this is not the book. It was a sweet romance between two characters who are both struggling with loneliness, dysfunctional families and finding their voices amongst the heartbreak they both feel.

Elliott Youngblood has had to put up with so much in his short life. Growing up with an abusive father and a mother who cares about herself more than her sons happiness. Elliott is shipped off to Oak Creek to live with his Aunt and Uncle for the summer. He loves going there because he feels at home even though he isn’t always accepted because of his Native American Heritage. But when he befriends a girl down the street from his house, his time begins to go by faster than he is wanting. Catherine Calhoun becomes his best friend.

Catherine Calhoun knows what it is like be be lonely. She has two friends and it seems like the rest of the town doesn’t like her due to her families past history. Catherine has a special bond with her father and when her dad loses his job, she knows life is about to change. Her mother is not going to be happy, and she will have to listen to her parents arguments. She routinely has to tiptoe around her mother because of her condition and she is tired of her dad having to defend her.. She is not a nice person and suffers from some sort of anxiety, its something Catherine just doesn’t know what to do with. When Elliot starts to come around, he becomes her escape. He becomes the only one besides her dad, she can lean on.

After spending time together for most of the summer, Elliott and Catherine soon realize that they maybe more than friends. They both lean on one another and have started to make plans for the future. They start to develop true feelings for one another and love blossoms between them.
The first part of the book is about the beginning of Elliot and Catherine’s friendship. However, when something good is going in your life, sometimes bad things happen. Elliott is forced to leave Oak Creek without a goodbye, while Catherine’s life takes a drastic change.

Elliot returns to Oak Creek a few years later, because he hasn’t stopped thinking about Catherine. She is the one bright spot in his life. But when he thinks he can pick up where they left off, he has another thing coming. Catherine is not the same girl anymore. She is withdrawn and has secrets. Can he get her to open up to him and forgive him for leaving her when she needed him the most?

While I enjoyed the story for the most part, I felt that it has some weirdness to it, I guess you could say. Parts of the story just didn’t jive and there are a few plots that I felt needed to run a bit more. I don’t know. I knew that something was going on and when the big secret was revealed, I kind of thought it might be something like that, but it still kind of shocked me. The story was unique and it was interesting and it didn’t feel like a Jamie McGuire book. I like when author’s step away from their normal genre and write something different. It shows the depth of the creativity and that they are a well rounded author. I thought Jamie did a great job, this book just kind fell flat for me at points. I would say it was a interesting read and I do recommend reading it for a different change of pace. 3.5 Stars

Wow, what a phenomenal and unique story! This book is outside of Jamie’s usual genre but was so well written with amazingly complex characters, that I just devoured it! It was a strange and fascinating plot that had my mind reeling over the possibilities of what Cathrine’s secret could be and I was speechless when it was finally revealed! I definitely did not see that twist coming but it was heartbreaking. It really showed her strength as a young woman, that she dealt with it all on her own. I loved the relationship between her and Elliot and I’m so glad he kept hanging on when she tried to push him away! While the book was dark and mysterious, it still has that beautiful love story intertwined that this author is known for! It was a fabulous book that will have me thinking about it for a while, as I really really enjoyed it!

First time reading a McGuire book and it was okay. Kinda and kinda not obvious at the end of the book what's going to happen. Wished there was more details about Elliott being Native American and his hardships.

An enjoyable read which was much darker than I was expecting - I loved how Catherine and Elliott were villanised by their classmates, and I really liked the complexities of the plot twist - definitely did not see that one coming!

***Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of ALL THE LITTLE LIGHTS by Jamie McGuire in exchange for my honest review.***

Elliott and Catherine fall in love the summer before their sophomore year. Circumstances tear them apart, but when Elliott returns, Catherine is a shell of her former self, secretive and closed off. She has secrets that could change everything he knows about her and what goes on behind closed doors at the B&B she runs with her mother.

Both Catherine and Elliott were well rounded, complex characters from dysfunctional families. Elliot’s father abused his mother and she’s selfish and puts Elliot last. Catherine’s mother is neglectful, depressed and clingy. If not for some of the guests at the B&B and Elliott, she’s truly be alone.

ALL THE LITTLE LIGHTS, my first Jamie McGuire book. Told in alternating first person points of view, mostly Catherine’s, having both perspectives created balance and insight into each main character. I haven’t read many stories with Native American characters and was glad for the diversity. Their classmates were stereotypical tropes, which didn’t distract from the story.

ALL THE LITTLE LIGHTS kept me interested and curious throughout the book, even when the story lagged during the middle. I did not guess the ending, but it made a lot of sense. I wish McGuire had done a better (or some) research on school counselors, mandated reporting and emergency foster care.

ALL THE LITTLE LIGHTS should attract readers of who enjoy a variety of genres including romance, mental illness, abuse, dysfunctional families, high school, racism.

This is my first time reading Jamie McGuire. I have heard of her past books but I had little interest in those. What captivated me about this book was the plot. Time can change people from who they used to be. I dived into the world of Elliott and Catherine not caring that I had college class the next day. I was invested and I craved more. I'm halfway through but I am riveted. I just may check out her past novels. Maybe. Thank you so much Netgalley.

Stunning.

I’m a big fan already of Jamie Maguires novels so as soon as I received this book my heart literally squealed.

I was glued to this story from chapter one. Elliot was so sweet from the start and his adoration of Catherine was adorable. Their growing bond was mesmerising. Their backstory was heart wrenching and I was rooting for them from the start.

Normally, slow paced books aren’t my thing but I feel Jamie really did this justice. I loved the mystery aspect combined with the romance.

I’m usually pretty accurate at guessing the twists at the end of books but I genuinely did not see this one coming. I was shook. In hindsight, it was so obvious. Thinking back, there were so many signs that I seen but couldn’t put together into a plausible explanation. I will definitely read this again at some time, even knowing the twist just so I can see all the little signs I didn’t pick up.

Definitely my favourite book from this author. And will be recommending to everyone I know just so I can talk about the ending (I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone reading the reviews).

I received an arc of this ebook from the publisher and author via NetGalley but this has in no way influenced my review or opinions.
