This book was pretty good. The story itself did not catch me as much as I would have liked but the art was superb. The colours are amazing and it does give you that magical and mysterious vibe. |
Haunting and beautiful tale with beautiful illustrations, more of an illustrated fairy tale than a comic book. But the story line was somewhat disjointed and hard to follow. |
The Ghost, The Owl is an intriguing, very short little story that pairs Franco's writing and the beautiful illustrations of Sara Richard. As befitting a ghost story, the tale feels ephemeral and mystical despite its brevity and the setting and attitudes of the animals are established without a lot of detail so it may not appeal to those who want less vague storytelling. The theme of helping others without expectation of reward is established with the owl's behavior and the way he interacts with the other characters. But I have to wonder who this story is aimed at. The simplicity and strong themes make it more suited to kids but the illustrations alternate between beautiful and scary so I'm not sure who exactly to recommend it to. Regardless, the tone struck by both the writing and the illustrations fits well and I enjoyed the experience of reading it. |

I found this to be a really cute book I like the cover. The illustrations were beautiful It is about a lost ghost trying find her way and the owl helps. |
The art work in this book is incredible. I feel that the art work is stronger than the plot and while I believe it will appeal to some audiences, it is not a "must read" for all. |

The illustrations were amazing and I loved every bit of it. The quality of graphic novels these days is really inspiring. the short and sweet story about the ghost girl is good but did not keep me engaged. I love such illustrations though so it might have distracted me from the actual plot. I would recommend for all readers and support such beautiful graphics. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me the opportunity to review this book. |

This graphic novel is about the importance of kindness and mutual help. The story is very short and simple, but has a powerful message: it doesn’t matter whom you are helping, helping others must be one of the purpose of our life. A quick read with very beautiful art. Drawings and colors are stunning, I loved them! I wish to read more books illustrated by this artist. Thanks to NetGalley for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! |
A lost ghost trying to find out who she is and the owl who helps her despite the other forest creatures urging him to stay out of it - this short and sweet story is a beautiful depiction of standing up for what is right. The artwork is lush and beautiful, like a picture book. Recommended for children's graphic novel collections. |
'The Ghost, The Owl' by Franco with art by Sara Richard is a gorgeous swirling graphic novel of a most unusual friendship. One cool evening in the swamp, a wispy figure appears. It is the ghost of a young girl. While humans can't see her, the owl and the other animals can. Owl knows she can't rest until she finds peace, even if she doesn't know it, so owl enlists his friends to help out. What they find is a house in shambles, and a very angry man. Could this be where the ghost lived or could it be a further mystery? The story is really good. It's completely elevated by the art. There are no panels or borders and the story just flows. The color choices reminded me of foggy days in the woods. The story is minimal, but I really liked these characters. It's an appropriate story for younger readers, but just be warned that there is some violence that is appropriate for the story. I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Action Lab Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel. |
A charming story with enchanting illustrations. An owl in a forest filled with all manner of owl and other animals, spies the ghost of a young woman dancing in the swamp. Fascinated, he decided to help her against the advice of his animal friends. Together they encounter an evil wizard. What follows is an eerie and beautiful take of valor and friendship. Loved the story and the illustrations are unforgettable! |
”Helping is what is necessary. It shouldn’t matter whom or what you are helping.” This is easily the most beautiful story I’ve ever read. The Artwork is so whimsical, and lovely. From the very first page I was mesmerized and brought into a new world. I loved the details from the huge landscape pages, to the close-up detailed pages. The story was a good one to be told and features such a small cast of characters, and is told in such a short amount of time, that is truly amazing how much hope can be spread at the end. The writing wasn’t my favorite and felt choppy at times, but all-in-all, this was a great book. *i received this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. |
I love the art and story of this graphic novel. The art was sweet and so beautiful that was easy to read. The story behind was a little harder to understand, but was simple and interesting. |
Well, I’m going to keep this short and sweet because this was a short and sweet story! It is the story of helping others no matter what. Standing up for what you believe in and going against the wishes of others to lend a helping hand should not be tied to a certain species, if we ignore the plight of others than nothing will ever be solved in the world. And… THIS ARTWORK!!! WHAT CAN I SAY??? WOW! It is truly gorgeous! |

The beautifully detailed graphic illustrations in 'The Ghost and the Owl', especially the ghost and owl reflect the moods. I especially liked the frame of the owl attacking the evil man where the owls' flight is depicted. The detail of all the forest animals attacking the evil man is amazing. |
4.5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for allowing me to read and review this book. Published May 8, 2018. What a gorgeous book. The illustrations in this short book are simply wonderful. Everything swirls together and runs across the page as it morphs into the next scene. Simply stunning. The story is about helping others - how the owl helps the ghost remember who she is and where she belongs, even after coming in front of the council for speaking with humans. Doing good is the owls purpose in life and due to past favors he is helped by a number of the other animals of the woods. I have to go back to the illustrations in this book. The story tells a parable, but the color and pictures in the book are mesmerizing. They fully cover each page and just flow from scene to scene. The pages bloom right in front of your eyes. Wonderful illustration by Sara Richard. |
A Ghost has lost her way in the swamp, so an Owl agrees to help her. The other animals of the swamp think it's a bad idea, but the two go on adventure to find out what happened to her and what secrets she still holds. The art is beautiful, in the style of watercolors. The animals that Owl speaks with are beautifully rendered, the Ghost herself is large eyed and almost childlike, without really resembling an anime style of character. The Owl is intent on helping others, whether owl or human, even when the parliament of owls takes him to task for it. He discovers that the human that had saved him when he was an owlet is in danger, and this human woman is tied to the Ghost. Because of his generous heart, the other creatures of the forest also comes to the woman's aid, and in doing so they discover the Ghost's past. This is a short volume, and is a good way to spend an afternoon. |

One evening a girl ghost appears dancing across the water in the swamp. The owl is the only one who is willing to try to help the ghost find her way to where she belongs. This is done by the owl even though the animals in the forest do not want him to do it. Why? Will something happen to those who don’t help or to those who do help? This graphic novel is beatifully rendered in colors by the artist. Reading this will show not to judge others who are different and to be willing to help those in need. One must not worry about what others will think or say. It is a lovely graphic novel with an excellent plot. |
