White Wild Indigo is a pretty unique collection of poems.

The book stands out because on one hand the accompanying artwork by Annie Moor is very beautiful, cheerful, colourful, a huge joy.
Well, I could go on. Simply speaking, it's a must see.

Then there's the hand lettering. The words are in different fonts and sizes, which gives each poem a cheerful and fascinating look.

The poetry itself left me with mixed feelings. Yes, this are uplifing and also encouraging lines, which sure help to put a smile on your face, but the rhymes often don't really work and then the lines rhyme beautifully, but don't make the most sense. At least not to me.

Still, if you feel a bit low or are looking for a most unique gift for someone, who could do with a bit of cheer (and who doesn't?), this is well worth a closer look.
My recommendation is the print version, don't go for the Ebook, you miss out on some really stunning artwork. It just looks so much better when you hold it in your hand.

My favourite poem is "Don't Forget To Go Outside" and here is a part of it:
"The sun is your heating pad.
The wind is your ceiling fan.
Your sun kissed face is your makeup.
The sky is your TV.
Watch how much better you will be!"
Beautiful words, which sure ring true to me and I think, everytime I go hiking in the Highlands, I will remember them from now on.

The book is considered to be suitable for children and adults alike and yes, it works. I loved White Wild Indigo, but some words are difficult and young kids will not understand them, like "appreciation, reduction, consideration, pragmatic, etc".
But then again it's a very good early onset to develop a love for words and wordplay.

White Wild Indigo sure makes for a very beautiful, cheerful and uplifting gift which will impress.

This book of poetry for children is a winner. It covers a variety of topics from nature, to "Google your Brain" to "Iron Girl" about intellect, strength and not giving up. There is even one about mothers. I like the variety of styles that are used as well as the different text to accent or embelish a word or phrase. My only concern is that many children today can not read cursive so might struggle somewhat with reading the poems. The illustrations are simple, yet cute and complement the poetry. A great book for a school or class library, for use when teaching poetry and just for fun

This sweet collection of children poetry includes colourful childish-looking illustrations that make the reading even more enjoyable. The author reminds children of the importance of nature and loving yourself, and the poems include a sense of positivity that makes you smile during the whole read.

I really liked the poems "Sage Smiles" and "365." I loved how everything was handwritten, and the drawings were adorable. While I didn't entirely understand some of the poems, and a few I found had maybe too many rhymes, this was still a fun poetry book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC!

White Wild Indigo, by Jet Widick, is a delightful poetry book filled with whimsy and wonder. Readers will smile from start to finish as they sail through Widick’s musical rhymes that celebrate the magic of childhood and nature.

Each poem in the book explores different aspects of a chlid’s life - what they see, feel and hear around them. From sun-up to sun-down, there are so many places to explore and things to experience! Widick is letting kids know how important it is to get outside and take notice of the natural beauty around us, and encourages kids to actively participate in their world. And that it is possible to make a poem out of even the smallest things they notice or experience, like what they ate for breakfast, a smile, a bit of sunshine or a tree beside the sea. Widick also explores larger concepts in fun ways within the poems, including the unfolding of a vast universe and the science of sound waves. Throughout, the idea that nature grounds and shapes us is persistent; kids should finish these poems with a sense that not only experiencing our Earth but also sustaining it is important.

A poetry collection that is beautifully illustrated and full of inspiration and fun, White Wild Indigo is a book to be shared with the children in your life. A wonderful addition to any home library, it also deserves a place on the shelves at preschools & elementary schools and would be a lovely read-aloud. I’m writing this review in April during National Poetry Month, and heartily recommend that readers shine a light on poetry by sharing this book filled with whimsy, wonder - a “Dreamin’ Tree” perfect for reading under, and the glow of “White Wild Indigo.”

The poems were cute, not complex for a child or adult to comprehend, and rhyme-y (maybe too rhyme-y at times). They sent the strong positive message we should be telling kids (and ourselves) more often about being loving ourselves, being self-disciplined, and so on.

I'm sorry, but I did not enjoy this book. It's clearly self published and that doesn't mean it can't be great (some of my favorite books are self published), but in this case it fell short for me. The poetry is awkward and sickeningly sweet, with the text written in all different handwritten fonts at once. I'm sure this is supposed to make it look whimsical but it just makes it hard to read and the overuse of all caps in some of the poems makes it seem like the author is randomly screaming at you. The art is sometimes cute but also missed the mark for me.

An example poem:

SLF-DSC

I saw it on a license plate
It's message made me HESITATE
SLF-DSC?
What this message meant to me:
SELF DISCOVERY - SELF DISCIPLINE
Either way, it's a win-win
For every situation!

(Note the incorrect spelling of "Its" in the second line.)

Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

This is a great book of poetry for children. It's a bit advanced for my three year old but I see the suggested age range is 5-6 years old and I think that is appropriate. Some of the poems were a bit over my daughter's head but she loved some of the others. The illustrations are beautiful and it would make a lovely gift for a lucky little child.

White Wild Indigo is an adorable collection of poetry geared to show children all the beauty and fun that surround them. The poetry covers everything from self-esteem to nature. The illustrations are colorful and cute--the kind of book you could look through, even without reading the words.

I like that many of the poems use big words and don't assume that kids need to be talked down to (which is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to kid's titles). Although not every kid will understand specific words or phrases, it's the cadence in which its read that makes the most difference, and helps readers connect to each piece. A lovely book for anyone who enjoys rhyming poetry.
