Oh what a Christmas movie adaptation this book would make. Somewhere along the lines of Love Actually . It’s an utter joy and a beautiful story of unrequited love spanning almost a decade.
Based in London and I could picture it quite clearly in my mind - Laurie is making her way home from work on the bus just before Christmas when it pulls up at a bus stop, from the top Deck she sees a man who looks up and sees her to their eyes meet and it’s love at first sight. He tries to get on the bus but it’s crowded and the bus pulls away before he gets the chance.
Laurie then spends the next year searching with her best friend and flat mate Sarah for bus boy. Every event or party or place she’s at she scans the room for his face.
Finally giving up she’s excited to meet Sarah’s new boyfriend who she’s been relentlessly going on about, her Mr perfect who she thinks is definitely the one this time - Jack. And yep you’ve guessed it , when they meet - it’s bus boy.
Does Laurie tell Sarah or does she keep quiet? Will Jack recognise Laurie from the bus ?
This is a story of not taking chances, of meeting at the wrong time in each other lives and not being with the one your destined to be with.
It’s a beautiful story, well written and as I said would make a wonderful film.
I’ve recommended it to countless friends already who have all loved it too. If your looking for a great love story with a feel good factor then don’t hesitate in reading this book as soon as possible.

The perfect Christmas read - devoured this in one sitting on my first day of holiday and absolutely loved it. Perfect for getting in the festive spirit!

Where to start with this book, I read it pretty much in one sitting as I got completely and wholeheartedly lost in Laurie's world, the book opens as Laurie, fresh out of university and living in London spots a boy from the window of the double decker bus she's riding on, she falls in love instantly and so ensues the story of Laurie, her best friend and Flatmate, Sarah and Jack, the boy she fell in love with. We follow Laurie, Jack and Sarah throughout the years as their lives entangle and intertwine across Friendships, Heartbreak, new Jobs, rubbish Jobs and Tragedy.

Laurie, our leading lady is an aspiring Journalist who can't quite seem to get catch that break so she can leave her Hotel Receptionist job and make it into the heady world of Publishing, Sarah is the glossy but brilliant best friend and Jack is the ultimate boy next door that I think pretty much everyone would fall in love with. The story spans over 10 years, starting in 2008 (perfect for a bit of nostalgia) and takes us right up into 2018 as we follow the lives of these three.

It's utterly charming, it's everything cosy and wintertime, it will make you want to write new years resolutions every year and know that sometimes you will make wrong choices and bad decisions and that's OK but ultimately it will make you believe in true love and in a world of Trumps, Brexit and post Christmas January blues, who doesn't want that?

One Day in December is a romantic drama about a young woman who sees the boy of her dreams one December night at a bus stop. The connection between them is instantaneous but their love affair is not to be as obstacles crop up in their way. A sparkly, heartwarming tale that will appeal to fans of David Nicholls and Cecelia Ahern and to all true romantics.

What a wonderful story! It had me gripped from the very start I just wanted to read and read. Love the characters as they were flawed and frustrating but thats what made the story beautiful as you wanted them to overcome it and make sure they got their happy ending they so deserved. Highly recommend.

I loved this book - a perfect Christmas read. I laughed, I cried and I finished the book with a smile on my face. Fairly predictable as this story could only really end one way - I would have been inconsolable if it had ended any other way - but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment whatsoever. A wonderful feel-good read. Will absolutely read Josie’s next book.

A romance novel about the idea of fate and of finding the one, One Day in December by Josie Silver is the story of two people who share a fleeting moment at a bus stop.

Laurie is on the bus home across London on a cold December night, when it stops and she raises her head to look out of the window. There at the bus stop her gaze meets that of a handsome man, and she instantly knows that this is an important moment for both of them, that she has found the one. Before she has the chance to get out of her seat, the bus pulls away and she loses sight of him for good.

Melancholic to say the least, Laurie spends the next year looking out for the man from the bus stop, getting best friend Sarah to keep a lookout as well. It is to her great surprise that when she does see him again it is in her own flat, on Sarah’s arm as her new boyfriend. Utterly at odds for what to say, Laurie pretends never to have seen him before and is unable to tell if he recognises her or even if he remembers the bus stop from a year ago.

The man’s name is Jack, and he is just as surprised to see Laurie, having also been reminiscing about that cold December night. However, he is falling in love with Sarah, and Laurie’s attitude makes him think that he imagined the moment that passed between them. Instead, they become friends for Sarah’s sake and the book takes us through the course of their lives from that moment onwards. They live somewhat separate lives and yet somehow manage to stay intertwined throughout everything that comes their way.

In that sense, this book is set up to be a drawn out romance between two characters who were always meant to be. That brief glance has changed everything, and Laurie’s romantic mind leads her to always be thinking about what could have been or what could still be. Regardless of the fact that her best friend is Jack’s girlfriend, Laurie is still tempted by him and tries everything she can to put him out of her mind.

Even when she knows she shouldn’t, Laurie is there for Jack in his worst moments, trying not to overstep the mark or get in the way of him and Sarah. She tries to move on with her own life and find a partner of her own, and does a pretty good job of it too, if it weren’t for Jack’s constant presence in her life. It was this that I found the most difficult to read, as I felt very sorry for Laurie’s partner, who dotes on her and is unaware of what’s going on in the background.

In the same way, I found it very difficult to like Jack as a character, as he always seemed a bit flaky or lacking in confidence to go after what he really wanted. He either wants Laurie or he doesn’t, but for the majority of the book he can’t seem to make up his mind, and only ends up hurting all those involved. To me, he wasn’t perfect partner material, and this only made it more difficult to read as I wasn’t rooting for the couple to get together at all – quite the opposite.

Unfortunately this novel did not click with me, as I struggled with the characters and the premise we were meant to believe in. That said, the book is engaging and I wanted to read all the way to the conclusion. If you can connect with Jack and Laurie from the beginning then your opinion of this book may well be very different from mine, and I look forward to hearing some alternative opinions on the plot.

Laurie lives in London as the book opens and spots a man as her bus stops. Their eyes meet. She wills him to get on the bus but he doesn't. She then pines for this man over the next year wondering if fate will bring them together and it does. Jack starts dating Laurie's best friend Sarah. And so the book continues told from both Jack's and Laurie's perspectives over the years.

I really enjoyed One Day in December and found it so difficult to put down. A charming modern tale of love at first sight, missed connections and destiny.

I really enjoyed the style of writing. Excellent characterisation and well written, I was absorbed from the start with this thwarted love story of unrequited love and incredibly bad luck. This book has likeable characters, strong friendships, heartache, trials and tribulations. I love how this book made me laugh and cry, I became so emotionally involved with the characters and hoped they would get their happy ending.

Highly recommended - I loved it. I can 't wait to read more from Josie Silver.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I was hooked on One day in December from the first page. I loved how each chapter switched between the two main characters, I just couldn't put it down, I needed to know what was going to happen next. The ending had me swooning, I had both tears in my eyes and a smile on my face it was fantastic, especially as it was set in one of my favourite places. This is the first book I have read by Josie Silver and it definitely won't be my last. A fantastic book that I will be recommending to everyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed One Day in December
I was hooked in from the first few pages that I just could not put it down.
A great book on friendships and love, which would you choose if you can’t have both?
My first book by this author but certainly not my last.

One Day in December is the kind of story I absolutely love. It's warm and hopeful but also hard and complex, just as real life. It spans over ten years and it follows the lives of two very close friends, Laurie and Sarah. When we meet them, they are roommates, both fresh out of university and looking for that special person that might or might not be the one.

The story is told from Laurie's point of view and it starts with her falling in love at first sight with a stranger one day in December. It's almost a year later when she finally meets him, Jack, and he becomes a huge part of both hers and Sarah's lives, just not as Laurie had hoped. Since that first scene, I felt a huge connection to Laurie and I was completely invested in their story and with every scene and every passing year, I really had no idea where the story was going to take us.

What I enjoyed the most is seeing these friends grow up. I think Josie Silver made a fantastic job with these characters. They evolved, made mistakes, got stuck, fought for what mattered, challenged themselves, made some really bad decisions and some really good ones... just as any of us has done in the last ten years, and by the end of the book, I really felt like they were really close friends of mine.

I have no doubt that One Day in December will resonate with many readers and its story will steal your hearts, as it did with me. I will definitely be going back to it for a re-read, to enjoy every detail again, very soon. It is one of the books that have touched me the most this past year.

An enjoyable read for fans of One Day. Slightly Christmassy but not so festive that it couldn’t be enjoyed at any other stage. This novel is a heartwarming read about friendship, relationships and love at first sight. I really enjoyed the opening chapters and the momentous meeting of eyes... but I did find that by the end of the novel I was willing them to get together (spoiler alert) to bring about the inevitable, slightly dragged out conclusion.

Slightly odd story that seemed to have its endings and then resurrected itself. Not sure at the end what I actually thought of it.

This is one of those books that grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go until the very last page.
Laurie sees a man at a bus stop and knows immediately that he's the love of her life, love at first sight. She searches for him in vain and in one of those strange twists of fate her flatmate and best friend introduces her new man. Who is, you've guessed it, the lost bus stop man.
What follows is a rich and wonderful story of love, friendships and relationships.
I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who is a romantic at heart.

My favourite festive book of the year so far by miles. This book NEEDS to be made into a film. It has all those feel good, funny and emotional moments that Love Actually and Bridget Jones’ Diary brings to us year after year, it would certainly be up there with the best of them.

I laughed and cried in equal measures and didn’t want the book to end. The characters are believable and the story is so well written that you feel totally immersed. I want to keep on reading of the tales of Laurie, Jack and even bbf Sarah. There needs to a sequel even if it’s just a novella of what happened next.

The book is cleverly written and spans 10 years, each chapter is written from either Laurie or Jack’s perspective. Sometimes we skip a few months other times a few days but we get to read about all the important stuff that life brings.

The message I take from the story is that it’s never too late and if somethings meant to be, it will be. If you love a good rom com that’s kinda festive kinda not this book is definitely for you. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Laurie locks eyes with a young man at the bus stop and bam falls in love at first sight! She spends the year looking for him to no avail. Then her flat mate and best friend, Sarah, falls in love and introduces jack to Laurie and Laurie is broken as jack is her mystery man. Over the years their lives entwine but can Laurie even stop loving him.

Aw this was a perfect book to read in the run up to xmas. Beautiful written and so moving. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really enjoyable read. I ended up devouring it from start to end.

In this book we meet Laurie and Jack... but so many other characters involved in this this story.

The story is set over many years can following the trails and tribulations, ups and downs of every day life. It felt real. It was an emotional read at times, but also full of moments of fun and comedy too.

I loved the story line, the angst and all the feels. The characters were simply fantastic, all taking different paths in their lives.

A wonderful british romance, about love, life and friendships!

4.5 Stars

I read this book to give me a palate cleanser for all the psychological thrillers I have been reading of late. I really used to love feel good romance books but this one I found a bit of a chore. I found myself getting a bit frustrated and inpatient with the will they/wont they and I found the missed opportunities laced within the book like pulling teeth. Not for me this one but if you like a meandering, drawn out tale of uncertainty and heart aching woe then give this a go.
