This was okay. Not the most exciting read. I did like the characters, though. Will try the author in the future.

I would recommend this story to all thriller lovers . This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well-written characters.

An excellent novel that had all the twists and turns of Swedish noir. A fantastic read and I look forward to more novels by this author.

I have to admit, at first I found this book to be a bit slow-burning. Certain events were recounted a few times over as different information came to light. But once it got going, I was gripped. Kristin is on the run as death seems to surround her. Having grown up in a well-to-do Swedish immigrant family living in Chicago, she had opportunities many would give anything for. But she grew up troubled, blighted by struggles with her mental health. A series of events unfold leading Kristen to flee America and go into hiding in her home country.

What Did I Do? follows charts two timelines - the present and the past. Following two stories that differ wildly tell of the trauma experienced by a troubled young woman for much of her life. As a result, tragedy follows her and a fragile mental state raises troubling questions. What hand has she had in fatal events so close to her? Surely she would remember if she had been involved in the death of people close to her.

What ensues is an intercontinental game of cat and mouse. Kristin seeks to quell the demons in her past and flee the trouble that always seems to follow her. As the story unfolds we discover more about the difficult youth she experienced.

Once the book found its stride, I was hooked. Discovering the past and present and how everything came together drove me onwards. Right until the very end, I still wasn't certain where the story was going. It made for an exciting read.

Imagine running for your life. From people that want to hurt you. You actually just not remember what you did... or where, or when..... This is the basic plot of this entertaining read, and makes you turn the pages even further, to see if you can find out the reason for Kristin's memory loss. Gripping read. Recommended.

What did I do? is an intriguing thriller centred around a young woman called Kristin who flees America for Sweden following the death of her husband and brother in suspicious circumstances. She has no memory of her part in this and this lack of memory is central to the book as you are kept wondering about her innocence and character the whole way through.


There are many characters throughout the book, some of which tell the story from their own viewpoint and there is an unknown narrator too which I thought was a nice and unusual twist. I didnt guess the ending of this book, but i did struggle to finish the book as all the characters left it feeling quite confusing and it wasn't as gripping a story as I had hoped it would be.

This book starts in a rather confusing manner: rather a lot of chapters introducing a different character in different settings and different time frames. It takes quite some commitment to stick with Kristen who fleas to Sweden after finding herself a person of interest following the death of her brother and husband. Despite compelling motives, she keeps asking herself if she's capable of murder. She can't actually remember...

Despite a promising new start in Sweden, her past starts to catch up with her in quite an unexpected manner.

It’s quite a relief when you start to join the dots, but this author doesn’t make it very smooth. It’s a little clumsy and it’s hard to connect with any of the characters.

The editing was a little ragged in places and I was rather shocked that an editor, copy editor and proofreader had missed some howling grammatical errors.

However, once the pieces started to fall into place, I did find myself quite immersed in the book and eager to discover how it would end.

I found this to be an Intriguing story once I had got to grips with the various characters. It took a while to work out who’s who but well worth the effort. Completely unexpected ending!!!!

I read a small part of this book and then left it for a month or so then decided to carry on reading it. Whilst the plot or idea of the book was a clever one, it really ended far too complicated and there were far too many name changes for the story to have any cohesion or fluidity.
The daughter thought she was responsible for the death of her abusive husband and fled to Sweden to start again. Then her parents also left America and moved to Sweden to find her.
It wasn’t a book I could recommend.

Not for me I'm afraid. Too slow moving with characters that I couldn't bring myself to care about.

An everyday story of a dysfunctional family

Frank and Birgitta’s family consists of two boys, Peter and Anders, the youngest at 19, and Kristin, their only daughter. Peter has already flown the nest and Kristin is nowhere to be found. The novel starts with a Prologue which, frankly, in my opinion, adds little to the reader’s understanding, and a call to the parents to say that Anders has had an accident. Just why that call had to interrupt a sex session is beyond me. Maybe the author felt it added a bit of spice to the opening paragraphs.

The plot continues with each chapter written from the POV of one of the characters. This format can work well but was rather confusing as actions which occurred in one chapter then often occurred again in a subsequent chapter written from the viewpoint of another character. In fact, the timelines jumping around were a feature of the whole book and continued to confuse throughout its entire length.

The whole family in one way or another ends up in Sweden where most of the action then takes place although the focus tends to centre around Kristin as the main character – certainly she is the one to whom most things happen. Frank is obsessed with finding Kristin. Both he and his wife have had successful careers in the States so money is no object. We don’t hear how this money has been made but they led a luxurious life and have time on their hands to follow their interests.

The writing style flowed well but the actual plot and relationships between the characters were difficult to determine. In fact, I tried to develop a chart of who knows who and in which country but that wasn’t helpful either. In short, I didn’t enjoy the book. It had the feeling of not having been thought through properly and in need of tidying up and knocking into shape. The denouement was almost a splurge of information and revealed everything in a few pages. I didn’t guess the ending probably because there were no clues as to the main perpetrator. (And having re-read the Prologue after finishing the book. In my opinion, it still does not make sense or in any way contribute to the reader’s knowledge or understanding).

A great psychological thriller-The pace of the book is a little too slow moving for the USA to Sweden-not sure if it is for everyone, but a good read with good twists and a good ending. Recommended.

Extremely well written with likeable characters.
I highly recommend it.

I have to admit that I was totally confused for the first half of the book and hadn’t a clue who was who. I soon discovered that some of that is a deliberate ploy and had I been reading a physical book rather than an ebook I could have gone back to check who I was reading about. Saying that, at some point I got to grips with the characters and began to really enjoy the book. Whilst a difficult character, Kristin is easy to like; as is her boyfriend. All in all this was a good read and I would happily recommended it

A very good, twisted narrative that keeps you guessing. The characters were difficult to like, but I found that intriguing because I wasn't sure where the plot would end up. The juxtaposed timelines worked well too and I could follow it all relatively easily. A good follow-up to Jessica's first novel.
