This little book extends the idea of subversive cross stitch to include ironic and, modern designs that have more elements of modern cross stitch such as Backstitched lines, outlining for detail, and partial stitches.

The designs are delightful and will be fun to stitch. The introductory chapter gives you the basics of cross stitch and the final two chapters cover finishing and designing your own project.

Improper Cross-Stitch took a new spin on a classic craft. I can remember my mom and her friends cross-stitching in the 80s when it was the "cool craft" to do.
I love that Haley Pierson-Cox took a new approach to cross-stitching and bringing it to the modern times! By bringing in phrases and designs that were funny and clever, I think this will appeal to a younger crowd and help to bring back the cross stitch trend.
Additionally for new crafters, Haley does a great job explaining all the different components of doing cross stitch from picking thread to displaying the finished project!
I would for sure purchase this book when it is published and look forward to trying out a few of the patterns!

This book is absolutely PERFECT for beginners. The patterns are simple, and the book includes far more information than I have found in other cross stitch books. I was particularly impressed by their choice to include instruction on framing your pieces when they are complete.

I thought this was interesting. I wish it had more patterns in it but I did like the ones it did have. They were easy and I could see beginners liking them.

This is a fun little cross stitch book, but not really improper. The designs are simple, and some are a bit snarky. All of these could easily be done by a beginner.

A fun and fantastic look at cross stitch. As a hipstery cross stitcher, I'm always looking for new and cheeky patterns to cross stitch for friends and family. I would pick this up in a heartbeat. Pierson-Cox's patterns are clear and colorful and appeal to the sarcastic crafter in me.

This is a cute little-cross stitch book. The beginning covers tools and the basics and then there are quite a few fun cross-stitch designs to try. I found a few that I am going to do, including a Squad Goals design that has Bronte, Austen, Dickinson, and Plath on it. I can't wait to try it! This is a great book for both the beginner and more advanced cross-stitch enthusiast.

Disappointed. It was just a sampler of the book and did not include one pattern. Unable to rate it higher because I'm not sure if the instructions or patterns woukd be usable.. Also, very few pictures.

Having only seen a sampler, I can't give 5 stars to a book I haven't seen in it's entirety. However, once I've seen the whole book, I will likely change it. These patterns are often topical and fun, or timeless like being a cat lady. The ones I have seen would make fun gifts for friends, or just to pass some time stitching. There is a listing for one referencing "that escalated quickly" which I could find many uses for. The designs are not too hard, featuring many "square" designs with line writing. I personally like the square blocky patterns because they can be adapted into other crafts like knitting by following the graph. The preview was great and I look forward to hopefully seeing the full version when it comes out.

Even if I don't make any of the cross-stitch designs shown in this book, its irreverent tone has freed my imagination to go outside the "usual" cross-stitch ideas. Not sure what I will make, but I will be making something....

I got to take a look at a preview sample from IMPROPER CROSS-STITCH. I cannot wait for it to come out, so that I can see the full thing. Awesome patterns like "Squad Goals" featuring Bronte, Austin, Dinkinson and Plath and "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Crafter" are the types of patterns within the book. The book does go over the tools used for cross stitch, as well as how to create your own patterns. Looks like a really fun book.

Mis-titled as cover pattern is not included. Not improper, but a good starting point for someone looking for cross stitch ideas. It could have had more pictures and maybe a few web links in the design your own chapter.

SO CUTE. I love this! I will definitely be buying once it comes out. I absolutely love the millennial cat lady, feminist smart crafter girl vibe. These are vibrantly funny and come with great instructions for the beginning cross-stitcher.

This was a huge disappointment. ..few pics and no patterns included. Not at all what expected.

Bahahaha.. I Love this book. I would make a lot more time for stitching if all projects were this awesome.
Improper Cross-Stitch is filled with detailed instructions and colorful photos as well as tips on general cross-stitch.

Ha! Already found the pattern I'm making first! This cross stitch pattern book is a bit tamer then some I own, but it's fun, too! For those who want a little subversive poke, but nothing truly obscene.

This is a fun, modern book to help you explore the craft of cross stitch. I love the patterns that were shown in the sample given to me. What I loved most about this is it shows you how to create unique pieces. I enjoyed flipping through and I definitely found a pattern to use in the future.
