I remember the first book I read a book by this author, in fact I had an early copy of it from the publishers. Never heard of her. I was astounded by that book so, when I could read this too I got it. It’s been sat waiting to be read...... Why? Because, her first book was so good I’d been worried about reading this one incase I get disappointed. I need not have worried. Nope, not worried at all because this author can weave a story that entrap you in it’s web. The entire plot of this left you wondering......what happened? What can’t she remember? Will it shock me? Will it shock her! The twists were great. I listened to it on audio. There was only one voice that annoyed me, but a part from that......I loved it. It has all the ingredients of what a suspenseful thriller should have. |
The task of repopulating the senior library has been an exciting and daunting task aS in a boarding school our aim is to encourage all members of the community to read. Because of this, I have been searching down a wide and diverse range of books to read that will entice a wide cross-section of the school to come in, browse and find books that they love. Books like this will ensure that the senior students in the school see the library as a diverse, modern and exciting place with books that speak to them and they want to recommend to their friends, classmates, teachers and tutors. It is an engrossing and exciting read with fully-formed characters and a plot that ensures that it's hard to look away. It is as far from formulaic as it is possible to be and kept me up far too late in order to finish it. I immediately wanted to read all of this writer's other books as I loved their voice and found that it really drew me into the story and made me think about it even when I'd stepped away from this tale. This is a thought-provoking read which I'm sure will be a popular and well-read addition to our new library; I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read it and I know that the students are going to absolutely love it too! |

A gripping psychological thriller, this kept me reading in to the early hours. I will certainly read more from this author. |
This is great for thriller fans! I was tense all the way through and trying to read as quick as possible to find out the truth! |
it started well for me but i found it to be unrealistic. Although i finished it and thought it was ok i certainly wouldnt rave about it. First book ive read by the author but wouldnt rush out to purchase more. But over all it was a good thriller with few twists and turns if a little bit unrealistic |
Maggie wakes from a coma to find her entire world ripped apart. The police tell her that her beloved daughter Elspeth is dead, she drowned when the car Maggie had been driving plunged into the river. The issue is that Maggie remembers absolutely nothing. When Maggie pleads to see her husband Sean, there is yet more heartache, the police state that he has disappeared and hasn’t been seen since the day of her daughter's funeral. For Maggie something doesn’t quite add up, she can’t put her finger on it but eventually it all becomes clear and it definitely was not quite what or how she had been told! |

Day of The Accident was a fast paced, gripping read that was incredibly hard to put down. The story is very well written and I felt intrigued from the start by the mysterious circumstances surrounding the day of the accident. I found I had to keep reading as I had to find out the truth. Maggie was an interesting main character that I kept changing my opinion on. On one hand I did feel very sorry for her as one of my kids going missing is my worst nightmare. Her fear and concern for them was almost palpable at times which made for quite emotional reading. However I did want to shake her sometimes as I felt she needed to get a grip and pull herself together to help find her daughter. This book was very addictive with lots of twists that keep the reader firmly on their toes. Just when I thought I’d figured everything out something would happen and I’d be back at the beginning trying to make sense of everything. This ensured that the book is a fast read as it’s almost impossible to put down. I manage to read this over the course of two days reading late into the night to read a few more pages! I’m always a bit dubious when a book is marketed as having a twist that you won’t see coming, but in this case it was true as it took me completely by surprise! The author clearly explains the reasons behind everyone’s behaviour which was very interesting and was a fitting end for a fantastic book. This is the author’s second book and I’m very excited to read more from her in the future. This would make a great book club book as I think you’d want to discuss what happens and the big twist at the end. |
The Day of the Accident was a great page turner for me. I read this book in a day I loved it. Brilliant. I will be looking out for more books by Nuala. |
I finally got around to reading this book, after seeing some great reviews on amazon and goodreads. The book was well written, I'll say that, but I was a little bit confused with the jumping between time periods. There was no indication that we are going back in time, or jumping to present time. This is only my personal opinion, and doesn't have to influence yours. Regardless, it was really a good read, and I didn't see the ending coming, well done! Recommended. |

Maggie wakes up in hospital. She has been in a coma but that's not the worst news. Her daughter, Elspeth, is dead - killed in a car accident in Maggie's care - whilst her husband, Sean, has disappeared. Maggie can't remember exactly what happened but she knows she didn't kill her own daughter. Doesn't she? I went into this thinking it was probably going to be a fairly generic thriller, but it turned out to be much better than that. The main character was fairly sympathetic, and the twists and turns of the plot kept my attention. I did, however, think that the ending wandered off into more unlikely territory and this spoiled it a little for me. Overall though it was an intriguing thriller that kept my attention. Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Penguin Books (UK), for the opportunity to read an ARC. |
This is the sort of book I enjoy reading and rapidly forget! It is a perfectly good thriller. The set-up and premise is a little strained but it is a well structured, page-turner of a thriller. Decent, competent writing. Interesting characters although I found the protagonist a little irritating at times - but that may say more about my frayed nerved than anything else! If you're looking for a decent read for a couple of nights, this will do the job! |
When Maggie awakes from a coma in hospital and is told that her beloved daughter Elspeth is dead she is utterly devastated and totally disturbed by her lack of memory of the incident that caused her death. With her husband nowhere to be found, no home and a head full of questions, Maggie desperately tries to pull the shattered pieces of her life back together. For some reason she cannot explain she is sure her daughter is alive and will do anything to prove that she is. With some great twists and stacks of intrigue throughout this is a great read for anyone who enjoys a novel that will keep them guessing and wondering until the end. My thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of #TheDayoftheAccident in return for an honest review. |

Day of the Accident by Nuala Ellwood is a great book that kept me hooked from the word go and I devoured in 3 days! From the moment I started reading all I wanted to do was get to the end to find out what happened to Maggie and who is writing the mysterious letters. The ending was a real surprise, you won’t guess it! |

Day of The Accident follows the aftermath of a tragic accident in which Maggie loses her daughter Freya. Injured herself she wakes from a coma to find out that the funeral has already happened and that her husband Sean has vanished. Struggling to deal with the emotional and physical she becomes more and more convinced, despite all the evidence, that her daughter is still out there, somewhere. Well, that was emotional! A quiet shift at work had me read this in three hours flat - I just couldn't put it down. As I read I became more and more worried it would have a ridiculous ending. I honestly couldn't see where it was heading. But when I realised - relief! No ridiculous ending here. Just a fantastic book all round, enthralling and emotional, I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone that likes a good thriller with a twist in the tale. |

A compelling psychological thriller.. After waking from a coma, Maggie is told her daughter is dead after the car she was driving plunged into a river. Under suspicion from the police, Maggie remembers nothing and her husband Sean has disappeared. An emotional gripping page turner. |
A great thriller. Super entertaining with great twists. Less character development than I was expecting but a great read nonetheless. |
I read this book in 2 sittings on holiday. I was hooked from the prologue curious as to what Maggie, our lead character could be admitting guilt for when the coroner had ruled there was no foul play in her daughter’s death. When Maggie wakes from a coma, she learns her daughter is dead after being trapped in a sinking car, and her husband has disappeared unable to forgive her for her role in the tragedy. As the story progresses, The chapters where Maggie is trying to piece together what is left of her life are interspersed with letters signed off be her daughter. Is a cruel trick being played on her? Or is her daughter alive somewhere and being kept from her? I really enjoyed this book, the cliffhangers and twists came at just the right moments to keep me hooked. I did however find the climax of the story to be quite difficult to accept as something that could really have happened without anyone knowing the truth sooner. If the ending had been more believable this may have been a 5 star read! I received an e-ARC of this book from the publishers via exchange for an honest review. |
