I loved this book!!! At first I wasn't quite sure what was going on and then as the story unfolded things became clearer... I must admit though that I'd not quite got it all worked out until all was revealed. It really was a gripping read...… and I couldn't put it down.

I don't want to give any spoilers away but what I will say is that you definitely need to read this book when it's released next year.

I was lucky to be given an advance digital copy via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion, and I can honestly say that it was brilliant!!

What would you do if you woke up In hospital with your daughter having died in an accident you can’t remember, and your husband missing?
This page-turner explores what’s happened. What dark secrets are in Maggie’s past and what really happened to her daughter?
I enjoyed it but it’s descent into gothic horror - despite the clever plotting - disappointed me slightly as the bulk of the novel is well-paced and (for a thriller) believable. That’s why I’ve given it four instead of five stars.
Nevertheless I read it in almost one sitting and would recommend it.

Oh poor Maggie,! This story seemed almost too sas to read In places. I could not believe that a lot of things would have happened how they did in the book ( no spoilers so cannot explain further) and I have set my ratings score accordingly. It’s a quick read and would be great for passing time on a long journey.

From the start, this is a compelling and interesting read which will have you guessing at each chapter what will happen next. I also enjoyed that there was a real follow up to the ending several months afterwards.

I read The Day Of the Accident in a couple of days.

Maggie wakes from a coma to have her world torn apart. She’s told that her daughter is dead. She died when the car Maggie was driving plunged into the river. Maggie remembers nothing and begs to see her husband Sean, but he’s disappeared. The book follows Maggie as she tries to piece together what happened that night, yet she also can’t shake off the feeling that her daughter is still alive.

This book flows well with some nice twists and turns. It kept me enthralled throughout and I look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Books and the author for the chance to review.

Is Maggie losing her mind - or am I losing mine? That thought struck me more than once whilst racing through this riveting read!

Maggie wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory of how she got there. As she drifts in and out of consciousness, she discovers she's been in an coma for the last ten weeks following an accident during which her young daughter died. That's the first shock and there are many more to follow. But deep inside, Maggie doesn't feel that her daughter is dead - so which version do we believe?

This is a twisted, tantalising tale. It puts the reader firmly in Maggie's shoes as she tries, whilst battling to recover her health, to find out the truth. The obvious thing to do would be to ask her husband - but he's done a bunk. Why? Where has he gone? As snatches of the fateful evening come back to her, it's difficult to work out where this one is going - I was wide of the mark and so wrong! This is a book which will keep your attention; when I wasn't reading about it I was thinking about what was going to happen next, and I never got it right.

Superbly plotted and skilfully written, I can't believe I got through this book so quickly. Everything seems to happen so rapidly, keeping the reader on their toes. I loved everything about this one. The author is new to me but she will definitely be going on my 'one to watch' list. If you enjoy a taut, suspenseful read where the outcome isn't obvious then this is one for you. Highly recommended and worthy of a full house of stars.

My thanks to publisher Penguin for approving my copy via NetGalley. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.

The Day of The Accident by Nuala Ellwood is a psychological thriller. I loved this book.

The story really touched my heart. A mother (Maggie) wakes up in hospital from a coma to find out her life has shattered and will never be the same again. How can she go on?

From the first page I was hooked. I could not find enough hours in the day to keep reading this book.
Nuala Ellwood is a new author to me but I feel she will be one of my favourites.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Books (UK) for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

As gripping as this book was, I am not sure whether or not I enjoyed it! A bit far-fetched and emotionally dark in places, it was a tough read that definitely makes you wonder what you would do if you were in hwr position.

Absolutely amazingly written and very clever. The book had me guessing on what happened on that fateful day to Elsbeth and Sean. I was not expecting how all the different characters all linked to each other and you’ll find yourself doubting everyone in the book.

I really enjoyed this book. An excellent read. Plenty of twists, turns and surprises. Cleverly written, with lots to keep you guessing about right up to the very end.

Thank you to Netgalley for an early copy for review.

This is a gripping read, but there were too many unrealistic events for me to give it 5 stars. I found it hard to believe that someone coming out of a coma, with such tragic events would be dealt with so callously, for example. Where were parents from the school? Even though Maggie has been an isolated Mum, I can't believe school would not have reached out after a child's death. Despite these misgivings, the book kept me gripped till the (also unrealistic!) end.

A well written and cleverly plotted novel. However I found it so dark and the characters so damaged and very few glimmers of hope that I did find it difficult to plough on to the end, hence the three star review.

I found this book intriguing from start to finish. I soon grew to like the characters, they are carefully crafted and believable.

As the story unfolded it soon became clear that more than one character has something to hide. I won't say any more for fear of spoiling the plot.

At times there are aspects of the book which seem almost ghostly; However, through a series of twists and turns worthy of a place in the maze at Hampton Court, all eventually becomes clear.

I will look out for the next novel by Nuala Ellwood on the strength of this story.

I give my thanks to Netgalley and Penguin UK for a copy in exchange for this review.

I read this excellent book so quickly, I just couldn't put it down! Nuala Ellwood has such a special way of writing that it draws you into the pages and you can't put it down. I havent read any of her work before, but I will rectifying that as soon as possible.
Maggie is such a brilliant, well written character. She is struggling to recover from the loss of her daughter, I felt sorry for her throughout the book.
I don't want to spoil anything so I will just say this is a well written book full of emotion and twists that I think everyone will enjoy reading.

They say you killed...But What If They're Wrong?

Sixty seconds after she wakes from a coma, Maggie's world is torn apart

the police tell Maggie that her daughter Elspeth is dead. that she drowned when the car Maggie had been driving plunged into the river. Maggie remembers nothing not one thing about what happened the day of the accident but she has to find out what happened she needs to remember but it's not going to be easy..

When Maggie begs to see her husband Sean, the police tell her that he has disappeared his gone. He was last seen on the day of her daughter's funeral and hasn't been seen since, with know way to find him and with the police not willing to help as he went on his own free will, Maggie feels alone isolated in a world without her beautiful daughter, but Maggie is a fighter shes not the kind of person who gives up if the police are not going to help her then she's going to do it on her own

What really happened that day at the river?
Where is Maggie's husband & why did he run away?
why won't anyone help her ?
and why can't she get the feeling out of her head that her daughter is still Alive?

as she gets closer to finding out what happened she finds out things that will shock her to the core of her bones but shes not alone someone wants Revenge someone wants her to pay for her mistakes!

The Day Of The Accident is a Deeply Chilling claustrophobic Creepy Thrilling Book that you will find hard to put down, it will send chills down your spine make the hairs on your arms stand on end..

This was absolutely fantastic - I put everything else on hold so that I could devour it in almost one sitting! The premise of the story had me gripped from the beginning and it was so clever how it all unfolded. I don’t want to say too much as I would hate to spoil the twists and turns for anyone but all I must say is please read this. You will not regret it! Can’t wait for it to be published so I can share with my book group and encourage them all to read it! Thanks to Penguin, Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! What a fantastic book that completely sucked me in.

Maggie wakes up from a coma to discover her daughter Elspeth was killed in an accident, an accident where Maggie was driving the car that went into a river. Maggies husband has disappeared and she discovers their family home has been sold leaving her homeless.

Maggie can't accept what she has been told and feels sure someone else was involved and that her daughter is alive. Throughout the book a child is writing letters to her mum and it's very easy to believe this could be Elspeth or maybe even Maggie herself as a child.

All becomes clear with a great twist that was completely unexpected.

Maggie Allan woke in a hospital bed after being in a coma for ten weeks. She was weak, confused and light-headed. But when she was informed her daughter Elspeth had died in the car accident, Maggie was distraught and disbelieving. She had no recollection of what had happened – she needed to talk to Sean, her husband. But it seemed that he had vanished – the day after Elspeth’s funeral, he disappeared, completely. Maggie was alone in her grief...

As Maggie struggled to come to terms with what she was being told, she knew she needed to remember what had happened. But could she? And was it really in her best interests to find out what had happened on the day of the accident?

With Sonia, her carer by her side, Maggie gradually faced her fears. But the more she faced, the more there were. The more questions she asked, the more answers she needed. And why was Maggie convinced Elspeth was alive out there somewhere – she wanted so desperately to find her…

The Day of the Accident is my second by author Nuala Ellwood and a riveting psychological thriller that kept me enthralled from the first page to the last. In fact, although I thoroughly enjoyed My Sister's Bones, this was definitely better. The intriguing twists, the chilling lies and devious evil surrounding the characters; The Day of the Accident was excellent. I was blown away by the ending and didn’t see it coming! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read and review.
