I have not read many romantic suspense novels so the description for this book caught my attention.

Sawyer is a DEA agent chasing a notorious drug lord. Part of his surveillance includes the nanny of a pilot who works in the organization. After meeting Kate, though, he's torn by his attraction to her and his duty to investigate if she is involved in any way.

I didn't find anything I really disliked about the characters, but I didn't particularly connect with any of them either. I did like both Sawyer and Kate's relationship with Bobby, the boy she nannies. He was adorable and sweet, and it was great how much they cared for and encouraged him.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As much as I wanted to love Undercover with the Nanny, and though I found some moments to both surprising and enjoyable, overall, this one was a little lackluster.

The chemistry between Sawyer and Kate didn’t quite grow the way I wanted it to—the emotional connection falling by the wayside at time as Sawyer investigated Kate’s boss. And as much as I love suspense, the details in this one left me wondering more about the little things than the larger case, which meant Undercover with the Nanny was something of a miss for me on both fronts.

Having said that, there are some fun elements that deserve to be highlighted. The ending built the tension well and the reveal was both engaging and surprising. Sawyer’s words had definite swoony feels and the interactions with Bobby certainly made my heart flutter.

Ultimately, though, there just weren’t enough of those good moments to bolster the rest of this book, which had a good concept, but didn’t quite pull it off.

~ 2.5 STARS ~

This was an enjoyable story. That drew me in from the start. Even though there wasn't much action or suspense. But what there was I did enjoy. Especially with the twist, which I wasn't expecting, and after that I honestly couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
As for the romance element, I did enjoy it and I liked the characters too. Especially Bobby, who I thought was a really cute kid and I was glad to see that he along with Kate and Sawyer got a happy ending.
And as a new author to me, I would certainly read more from Cathy Skendrovich in the future. As well as recommending Undercover With the Nanny to others.

Undercover With The Nanny is a suspenseful tale of deceit and desire as Sawyer barges into Kate's life to get closer to her boss. Lies, loyalties and sexual tension drive up the stakes as Sawyer and Kate fall for each other.
I'm not normally drawn to undercover stories because of the inherent deceit that needs to take place for either party to go about achieving their objecting while falling in love. I'm not a fan of deceit, but the title of this story sucked me in. I thought it sounded cute and the blurb intrigued me, so I tried it out. Fortunately for me, the whole Sawyer lying to Kate about who he was thing didn't play heavily into the story even though it was there. I knew the whole thing would blow up in Sawyer's face eventually too, so I was prepared for it. Overall, I thought Ms Skendrovich handled it well. I didn't get my usual feelings of annoyance and disgust when faced with this particular trope as I have with other books.
Ms Skendrovich is a new-to-me author, and I quite liked her writing. I'm still deciding if I'll be reading more of her books or checking out her backlist because I felt like the entire story lacked emotion and character development. Sure things happened, Sawyer was attracted to Kate and vice versa, and there was some action along the way, but even as I read, I felt like I was a spectator on the outside looking in. My feelings did not engage, and I wanted them to. I also had a hard time getting a handle on Sawyer and Kate's personality and found myself scouring the words for any hint of who they were as people. You'll have to forgive my lack of eloquence as I try to describe them to you.
Let's start with Sawyer. Big, tough, dedicated DEA agent. His assignment is to get close to Kate to have access to her boss who is suspected of having ties to the leader of a drug cartel. Sawyer is instantly attracted to Kate, and although he tries to fight his attraction to her, he can't resist her. Obviously! With Kate, Sawyer is funny, charming, caring, and attentive. I'd like to think he was his true self with Kate and it wasn't all an act, but I don't know for sure because as I said before very little character development.
With Kate, I want to say I know her a little better because I got Sawyer's perspective of what he thought of her. Sweet, sexy, sassy, with an underlying sadness from a recent tragedy in her life. I didn't entirely like Kate. There was something about her sass and attitude that rubbed me the wrong way. She tries very hard to be strong and independent, but it somehow falls a bit flat for me. I didn't feel like she was a heroine I wanted to root for.
One thing I do think Ms Skendrovich did particularly well was how Kate and Sawyer worked through their issues. As you can imagine, Kate felt very hurt and betrayed by Sawyer when she finds out about his subterfuge (no surprise there!). When it came to the point of forgiving Sawyer and moving forward, I liked Kate's thought process and subsequent actions a lot (I promise I'm not spoiling anything, c'mon this is a romance, you *know* they are going to make up!!). It was a strong reflection of Kate's feelings for Sawyer, her strength, and her hope for a happy future. I also like the way they communicated with each other and expressed how they felt, and what they wanted. The whole hero and heroine are communicating like mature adults thing works for me.
I think I'll end with this thought. I think I'll check out Ms Skendrovich's future books and won't rule them out. If something catches my attention and piques my interest, I'll consider picking it up to read.

3 1/2 Star Review.....

If you’re looking for the ultimate escape filled with suspense, danger, sex and romance, then Undercover with the Nanny is definitely a read for you! The storyline isn’t anything exceptional, but it keeps the reader engaged with a decent plot and plenty of action too. It’s basically a quick read with a sexy undercover DEA agent and a woman down on her luck. Oh, and don’t forget the cute little man, who unfortunately has a dad that runs a cartel.

Sawyer is a DEA agent now in California on the trail of a the head of a drug cartel that's been dogging him and his team for some time.
His goal here is to get close the the Nanny of the head of the cartels pilot and see if she's involved, yet the be determined and try and get close to the pilot.
Kate is living in her friends beach apartment after her parents are killed, she'd saddled with debt and has had to put her new business on hold until she can get her life in order. She's taken a job as a Nanny for a young boy who wants nothing more that the attention of his father which he never gets.
Kate isn't a full time nanny, she's almost more of an on call sitter and all around care taker. She's available when he calls her and she's paid well. She's very fond of her young charge.
Sawyer and his team are all in place and have plans in place, Sawyer has to do is meet Kate and try and weasel his way into her life and see what her involvement is, by planting bugs and cameras and trying to do the same at her bosses house.
Sawyer meets Kate by beaning her on the head with a volleyball. Of all the jerk moves and that was only the beginning. To make matters worse he lives next door. Sawyers self talk drove me nuts. Maybe he was right, maybe he did spend too much time with scumbag dealers because he sure didn't know how to talk to a woman. Adolescents got more going on than this guy did. The story centers around Kate, Sawyer and Bobby who is the suspected pilots little boy. Sawyer has managed to score a little league baseball coach job for Bobby's team. Puts him that much closer to his father.
Sawyer loses sight of the objective here, or lets say his wires totally fray when he falls for Kate and the feeling is mutual. He's at odds with his #2 man on the team, because he's not thinking clearly and when things happen that snap him out of his dick haze, he's forced to make several decisions and jump back into his job quickly.
I liked this story. Sawyer was a fool. Seriously. His lines of bs got so old I glazed over reading them. Kate was a different story. I liked her a lot. She's relatable, sensitive to what's around her, how she fell for Sawyers crap... I guess maybe if you're there... whatever. There's some great suspense. I wasn't sure Kate was or wasn't involved. You don't get a clue. Lots of bed burners and some really bad one liners from Sawyer. I liked Ian. Wouldn't mind his book.

If you are looking for a book that lives up exactly to your expectations of a sweet romance with a bit of plot and danger, this book is perfect. It’s totally formulaic. Boy meets girl, instant attraction, conflict, resolution and happily-ever-after.

There is a bit more plot, though. Sawyer Hayes is searching for a seriously bad man, and engineers a meeting with Kate Munroe since she is the nanny of the really bad man’s right hand man. They both had reasons for not wanting to get involved, but...hey!!...insta love! They just couldn’t help themselves.

There is a cute and needy eight year old boy who is a nice addition. Bobby was a highlight for me. Other than that, this is a nicely written story. It’s fairy short and easy to read. A nice weekend diversion. There is a little surprise toward the end. If you hate big surprises and twists, and love a sweet romance, you should pick up a copy and...

Enjoy!

I really enjoy this type of story and was not disappointed. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this read. Sawyer and Kate had great chemistry. I was a little frustrated at Sawyer for not coming clean sooner but get his reticence. I never fully understood Kate's hesitance towards starting something with Sawyer other than it wasn't the best timing and she feels she lacks passion. Not the greatest reasons for me, but I still liked the story overall.

This story centers around DEA agent Sawyer Hayes and Kate Munroe, currently working as a nanny in order to get out of debt. Little does she know that her boss is a member of a drug cartel.
Sawyer doesn’t know if Kate is part of the drug cartel, so he goes undercover and befriends Kate . He needs information and she might be his ticket into the cartel.
I have to confess that the story did not engage me and I was not drawn to the characters.
That said, if you are looking for a story to just pass the time , then this one is for you.
I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This was a very basic storyline with a very basic writing skill. Needless to say, my mind strayed from the story and with force I had to focus to read to the end. I had hoped that the elementary premise of the plot would have been done in an imaginative way to breathe life into an old subgenre.

The meet-cute was forced: Boy forces meeting with girl. Boy preys on girl. Boy lies to girl. Boy rescues Girl. Boy and Girl live generically ever after in accordance to the romance genre guidelines. Boy prostrates himself on the alter of Girl’s forgiveness. Girl accepts Boy’s prostration. The-manufactured-end.

If you are looking for a soft read which wraps up neatly before succumbing to the journey, read this for the fun of it.

I received an arc from Netgalley. This book was intense and exciting. The DEA agent and the nanny working for someone on the DEA watch list. Katie has no idea the man (Sawyer) she is falling in love with is making sure she is not involved with her employer in the drug trade.

These two find their way with a few bumps along the way but what a HEA ending...... especially for Bobby. 3.5 stars

Loved this book!!! Sawyer is an undercover DEA agent that "moves" in next door to Kate, the nanny to the child of a pilot to a drug lord. His goal is to get close enough to Kate to learn if she is part of the drug activity, or an innocent. Either way, she is his ticket to gaining access to plant bugs and learn more. Unfortunately, he is unable to fight his own reaction to her. He doesn't know what it is but hopes she really is innocent as he can't seem to keep his hands off of her. However, every time he touches her, he also steps further out on a very rickety limb supporting what remains of his career.

I really liked the characters in this novel - I found myself caring about their story and felt invested in wanting them to have a HEA ending. Kate was endearing and Sawyer's internal struggle made it interesting. This one is a must read for fans of the genre. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Kate sometimes shocks the crap out of Sawyer, “you didn’t manhandle me. I wanted you to kiss me.” ....… His eyes widened, and desire flared in them..." Kate was so dang feisty, at times her man doesn't stand a chance, "...or, are you some kind of techie, peeping Tom who gets his rocks off by watching me when I’m alone? Isn’t showering with me, sleeping with me, enough for you? Answer me!” I really liked this book, Sawyer just oozed *** appeal.
