This Is a Taco! by Andrew Cangelose, Josh Shipley It's a children's book about a squirrel named Taco. While trying for an educational slant it's mostly comedy. His name is also his favorite food. It's cute. I'd buy it. He's a little self-absorbed so it'd be a good social/ emotional. Or, general social or focus on imagination. Downloaded from Netgalley in exchange for free review. |

This book had a cute and funny voice that would appeal to both children and adults reading out loud. I could see this This Is a Taco being a story time title. |
An absolute gem! I loved this book mAn absolute gem! I loved this book more than I thought. I actually picked up this book to see if it would be appropriate for my nieces who are 4 and 9 but found myself thoroughly entertained. Almost every single page had me laughing out loud. The book is hilarious without being too juvenile or inappropriate and is not heavy-handed about teaching morals. The art style is not garish or ugly, fitting the story nicely. This is an amusing book meant to entertain and works for a variety of ages. I highly recommend it for parents looking for something different for their children. ore |
Bright Illustrations but somewhat silly concept that kids might find funny. The hawk is confusing and replacing it with a.n oversized taco negates that it’s a true predator. |
Such a fun book for kids and adults alike. The illustration is colorful and bright. Taco breaks the fourth wall in a humorous way to remind us that we write our own stories. Pleasant diversion from tedious children's books. Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher for the opportunity to review. |
I initially was attracted to this book by the cover, of course. "Squirrel!" is a running joke in my family when we lose our concentration and forget what we were saying. I thought this would be a cute little book for my son and, not only was I right, but I soon found out that I was as interested in the book as my kid. The illustrations in this book are top notch, incredibly rich in detail and color. It's a great book for fun facts about squirrels that is broken up with humor by a squirrel named Taco - some of the facts even being new to me. I thought it was a decent length for my son but he ended up sad that he didn't have even more Taco after the story was finished. |
Very cute! I liked how the squirrel interacted with the story. This book was humorous and did give some true facts about squirrels in the meantime! |
This is a Taco! by Andrew Cangelose is a fun picture book for kids. In it, a squirrel named Taco just loves tacos. The book teaches facts about how squirrels live and what they eat, but it does so in such a fun way. Taco can't fathom eating some of the things that squirrels eat, not when there are tacos! My seven year old son just loved this book. I highly recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own. |
That was hysterical! I was laughing through that short read! :D I know this is a children's book, but you should read it - it'll make your day! The squirrel cracked me up! I really want to read the other books that are related to this one! *I received a copy of this book from the publisher Diamond Book Distributors on NetGalley |

My kids loved this book and made me read it to them twice. It’s a cute story about a squirrel that loves tacos and doesn’t the the way his story is being written. Informative, and keeps children’s attention the whole way through. |
I love picture books where the character in the story interacts with the book, and Taco the squirrel is a standout among these! The humor (and sass) work on both a child and adult level so that readers of all ages can enjoy this story. I also appreciated the positive message of pursuing your dreams i.e. "If you want tacos in your story, then YOU make sure there are tacos in your story." Highly recommended! I received a digital ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. |

Funny, adorable and a super cute story line! My children loved it and I'll be sure to look for this author in the future! |
This is such a cute little book! Taco (the squirrel) is adorable and funny as heck, the book even dealt with stereotyping someone just because of common traits. Taco takes over the story and makes it his own, though, which was unexpected and hilarious. |
This book is so funny, and also really informative! It dealt with stereotypes and I felt like it had a really good message, but it was subtle enough that it worked really well. |

5 stars A cute laugh-out-loud book about a squirrel who likes tacos and must have them. It starts off with the other stating facts about squirrels but Taco slowly takes over >:D |
Very cute! I actually laughed out loud a couple of times and learned something new about squirrels -- the fact that their ankles can rotate (ouch!) in any direction. I would like to use this to teach "tone" and "humor" to my students -- it would be a perfect fit! |
So funny! Maybe I just have a special place in my heart for books about squirrels, but this cracked me up. |
I am an elementary school art teacher and I read to my students all the time. They adore non-fiction books as well as fiction. This is the best of both worlds. It has great facts for the kiddos to learn about squirrels and amazingly fun illustrations to keep them engaged. Taco is cute and funny and I think kids will really enjoy this book. I know I did. |
This is a super fun book. As an adult reader I learned things about tacos (oops I meant squirrels) that children will love learning about (for instance, squirrels can rotate their ankles completely backward—really who knew). More than that though the book had me laughing at points and I think it will have children howling. The several iterations that Taco goes through to get his taco scenario shows the importance of trying again. I love the last page “Kids, remember: If you want tacos in your story, then YOU make sure there are tacos in your story.” This is a fun book with colorful illustrations that gently conveys the importance of the child taking responsibility to make sure their world is how they want it. They can write their own story. Thanks so much to Netgalley, the publishers, and the author for providing me with a copy for an honest review. |
This book was a lot of fun to read and even taught me stuff about squirrels that I as an adult reader did not know before.. The illustrations were very beautiful and the lesson behind the story was good. I might have gone with a more healthy food choice as this book is aimed at kids and therefore would not buy it for my niece since she would want nothing other than tacos. But if you have a kid who enjoys healthy food and will not be tempted by fast food I would definitely recommend this book. #netgalley # ThisisTaco |
