I really liked the premise here, but I think the transition from antagonist to lust to love was quite quick. I would have liked more exploration of Hero’s initial sexism at their first meeting (which happened in a previous book so was not helpful for me).

LOVE IS THE GREATEST DISCOVERY OF ALL

Geologist Gemma Hastings has no interest in pursuing romance—and no patience for Lord Cameron Lisle, an esteemed fossil hunter who has a way of always honing in on her territory. . .annoyingly handsome though he may be. But when a shocking attack puts Gemma in very real danger, she may have to accept Lisle’s offers of protection. Even if that means entering into a dangerous flirtation. . .

Lisle was once amused by Gemma’s dedication to her work. But now that he understands how much he’s underestimated her—a woman whose beauty is matched only by her genius—Lisle is desperate to prove his respect…and prove himself worthy of her. But is he too late? A bitter rival, desperate to steal Gemma’s scientific findings, is still at-large. Can Lisle help uncover the culprit and keep her safe—forever, in his loving arms?

Review:

I loved that there was an interesting mystery wrapped into this historical romance. I have read a couple of books in the series, and having read them out of order I can say that the Author does a wonderful job of catching the reader up with happenings in the other books and not making you feel lost.

I loved both Gemma and Cameron. They seemed so totally opposite but really worked together as they worked through who took the dinosaur bones and who the killer is. My favorite was Gemma, I loved that she is wicked smart, speaks her mind and is willing to go her own way no matter what society thinks. This is not to say Cameron is not awesome too. After a few compromising situations that make a fake engagement necessary, he knows he wants Gemma for real and for good. Now to make Gemma see. They are the perfect pair, they have the same interests, smart, likable and are very sexy together.

The perfect wrap up to the series and the last of Lady Celeste's benefactors, though the ending does leave a window for other stories. We will have to wait and see.

4Stars

One for the Rogue (Studies in Scandal, #4)
by Manda Collins

Definite buy and enjoy book. However, even saying this, I have to tell you I was a little disappointed. The heroine is more like a spoiled tantrum child at times, not the intelligent woman that she is supposed to be. Even with that... I love the plot line of this book. I would of liked more aggression and clashes at times but other than these points, It was a truly engaging read. I like the wittiness this author shows. I keep waiting for more and more from her. A delightful series that I have sincerely enjoyed reading even with the small ups and downs. So buy and sit and enjoy. I was given this arc via NetGalley. All opinions are my own and written voluntarily. Regards, Anna Swedenmom

This is the fourth book in the Studies in Scandal series and a delightful read ....after reading this book i would definitely like to read the previous 3 books ... "One for the Rogue " is the story of Gemma & Cameron & can be read as standalone...

Four young ladies who are brilliant scholars in their respective fields have been chosen to be honored by Lady Celeste who admires women with good minds. Gemma is an expert in fossil hunting and studying the history of her finds. She has been encouraged by an aunt in her schorlarly pursuits . Lady Celeste has given a quest to her which she believes will be easy for her, wherein she is wrong. Gemma is frustrated by this, but her letter was incomplete and she is not sure what Lady Celeste meant for her to find. she is the last unmarried heiress in the Beauchamp house and she plans to stay that way!

Lord Cameron Lisle is also a fossil hunter. He is not an heir so he is in no hurry to do anything but follow his passion for hunting fossils. He likes his life the way it is . He refused to print an article Gemma wrote which leads to a very heated ,big argument ..Gemma thinks Cameron is impossible & doesnt believe women r capable of being knowledgeable...

When another fossil hunter is found murdered, Cam and Gemma begin to work together in order to find the murderer as well as retrieving the skull which has gone missing. There argument is forgotten when he agrees to help prove her theories ,find a very special fossil which proves the existence of a large lizard which once lived on the English coast. They fall in love amidst all the mystery, suspense, action ,adventure , archeological finds ,murder.

Characters appear from past books, but they are introduced and easily identified. Their mutual love of geology gives them a firm base to at least form a friendship, as they spend more time together with the new family connection. My only problem with the book was it was too lengthy & the descriptive notes in the story tended to become boring which broke the connect with the ongoing story sometimes ...

Again, with the Studies in Scandal series, we are treated to a mystery. Gemma's character comes across as bold, intelligent, sensible ,brave at the same time ,headstrong , stubborn, fiercely determined lady to accomplish her challenge. Cameron's Character is labelled as a Rogue but i found him amiable ,ready to accept & broaden his outlook regarding women for the right reasoning ...
A good adventurous , action & mystery packed Romance... It was fun & a roller coaster ride Manda Collins takes us on ....My quest now is to read the previous 3 books in this series that i have missed

the last book in the studies in scandal series, one for the rogue, features a couple that was strongly hinted at in the previous book. with gemma hastings connecting with cameron lisle. both geologists, they find themselves at odds over finds and published papers. but that antagonism over their work spills over into sparks when they kiss.

thrust together to avoid scandal, gemma and cam find that it's too difficult to keep their hands off each other. but with gemma's life in danger and cam wanting to protect her at all costs, there's plently standing in their way before they get to that happy ending that they never knew they wanted with each other.

Geologist Gemma Hastings is the last of the heiresses still single. Lord Cameron is not sure what his feelings are for her. She has always thought she would stay single. Can that change? Maybe with some danger thrown in they can find how much they need each other and how much they can find true love.

Fourth in Manda Collins’ Studies In Scandal series about a quartet of brilliant, scholarly young women bequeathed an estate and a series of mysteries, One For The Rogue seems very mis-named, because honestly there was nothing roguish about Lord Cameron Lisle at all. Quite the opposite. He was charming, respectful, and not in the slightest bit rakish. Yes, he appreciated Gemma’s beauty, but he was just as appreciative of her intelligence and determination, and always did his best to ensure both her safety and her reputation. Rogue? I think not.

That quibble aside, I actually really enjoyed the book. Cameron and Gemma had a marvellous relationship which started poorly when he dismissed her interest in geology because she was a mere female, a perfectly normal attitude for a gentleman at the time. However, by the time this book has started, that incident is in the past and Cameron has learned better, and understands Gemma is both educated and intelligent enough to be a force to be reckoned with in her field of study. Though the dismissal occurs during a previous book in the series, it’s not necessary to have read any of the others to understand perfectly well what’s going on in this one. Gemma’s sister Sophia being married to Cameron’s brother Benedick is more than enough reason for the pair to be thrown into each other’s company.

Gemma’s also forceful in personality, as evidenced when SHE propositions CAMERON for sex during a fictional betrothal they are forced by circumstances to present as real (yet another reason why he’s not in the least a rogue - he’s shocked). Being a red-blooded male, he accepts with alacrity, though, and there are a couple of fairly raunchy scenes in the book.

The author has clearly done her research and the portrayal of fossil-hunters and their explorations and theorems at the time is beautifully portrayed, particularly the story of Mary Anning, the famous woman of Lyme Regis who found many of the most famous specimens of the day but was never taken seriously due to her gender (and social status, an advantage Gemma does have). A thoroughly enjoyable story where you’ll actually learn something about a very specialized field of study during the time period, I still can’t quite bring myself to give it five stars because of that thoroughly misleading title.

What a deliciously amazing story! Fast paced and entertaining, Gemma Hastings is beautiful and charming the perfect ballroom debutante ....if she was interested in that. All Gemma is interested in is her geological finds and not in the boorish and extremely handsome Lord Cameron Lisle. Even though he turns up playing havoc with her equilibrium and findings. Things get dangerous when a fossil is taken and in turn puts Gemma in danger and Cam can’t let her try to figure out the culprit he needs to show her he can be gallant, sparks fly and the heat just goes up a notch.
Murder mayhem and mystery keep you on edge, sparks and tension make this one fast paced read!
Love Manda Collins has a gift and I’m glad she’s sharing it with the world.

I recieved a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Unfortunately, the last book in this series is unsatisfying. Gemma and Cameron were previously introduced and their siblings were the hero and heroine of the last book. Gemma, a geologist, is hunting for fossils and collecting in the home she stands to inherit. Cameron, a misogynist who doesn't believe in love because his father was unfaithful, is a caricature of a character. Gemma throws away everything she could have within a few months for a kiss with Cameron even though she doesn't like him. The story was often illogical and most of it took place on one day.
Painful to finish but I wanted to see what would happen with Lady Celeste's estate. It was unsurprising for readers of the series.

This is the fourth installment of the Series "A Studies in Scandal" and it is classic Manda Collins from beginning to end. Gemma Hastings is one of the Beauchamp Heiresses. She is the one most likely to land in trouble. She is sassy, stubborn and a hoyden. As you can tell from her picture on the front of the book, she has a little bit of the devil in her. Unlike the other Heiresses, she has no intention of getting married. Gemma knows that she is as smart or smarter than most of the men who collect and study fossils and bones. She has no time for socializing or romance. Her work is serious and someday she is going to find a spectacular fossil or bone and she will be able to take her place among the men in the field as an expert.

Cameron Lisle is a Gentleman who is a fossil collector and the editor of a scientific journal about fossils and bones. He decides which articles will be published in the journal. He is in the area of Beauchamp House attending a private conference of like-minded men of Science. Last time he was here was to see his brother the Vicar marry Gemma's sister. Needless to say that Gemma did not like Cameron and told him so. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean her work should not be taken seriously. Cameron defended his decision and hasn't seen her since. He hopes to avoid her on this trip, but the men want to see the Beauchamp Fossil Collection so he will have to accompany them to Beauchamp house.

When Gemma and Cameron are in the same room the sparks fly. He didn't notice how lovely she was and she didn't remember him being so good looking. They decide to try to get along because they are now related by marriage. Neither one of them counted on the attraction that seems to be developing between them.

When a fellow collector is murdered trying to steal Gemma's most important discovery, a giant lizard skull, that is on Beauchamp land and now missing, she is furious and is determined to find the murderer and get back her discovery. Of course, Cameron can't let her investigate alone.

Mystery, murder, mischief, and romance abound as the plot thickens and they find themselves right in the middle of the adventure of their lives that will take them places they never imagined and a love for a lifetime.

Manda is a master storyteller of mystery and misdirection. I thought at least two times that I knew who the murderer was. Her characters are amazing and her stories are original and very sensual. This is a must-read.

This book is a continuation of Manda Collin's Studies in Scandal series.

Gemma Hastings is the last remaining spinster heiress in the series. In this story, she finds her true passion for Lord Cameron Lisle. A fellow fossil hunter, they find they are a perfect match.
I've read the other books in this series and was excited to read what happened to Gemma. This story is written with a steady pace, but it didn't quite live up to the other stories in the series. It was still well written. It is a good book to add to your collection, if you have read the others in the series.
I would not recommend starting the series with this book.

Very good book! Action packed! Geologist Gemma Hastings has no interest in pursuing romance—and no patience for Lord Cameron Lisle, an esteemed fossil hunter who has a way of always honing in on her territory.!!

Geologist Gemma Hastings has no interest in pursuing Lord Cameron Lisle, an esteemed fossil hunter who has a way of raising her hackles. Handsome as can be, even related by marriage and Gemma couldn’t name the reason he somehow made her tingle. When a shocking attack puts Gemma in very real danger, she may have to accept Lisle’s offer of protection, even if that means entering into a dangerous flirtation.

Cam was amused by Gemma’s dedication to her work although realizes how much he’s underestimated her—a woman whose beauty is matched only by her intelligence! Cam is now desperate to prove his respect and his regard for Gemma, but a bitter rival, desperate to steal Gemma’s scientific findings, is still at-large. Can Cam help uncover the culprit and keep her safe—forever, in his loving arms?

*** This has been a delightful series and with ONE FOR THE ROGUE it completes the four heiresses series who all seemed to have gotten into a bit of scandal in each book. This one featured the last heiress, Gemma who excelled in geology and locating new fossils was left a letter from their benefactor only it was never finished giving her the clues to find a most remarkable and rare fossil.

Gemma was extremely independent and stubborn and the romance between her and Cam was extremely lively as well as sensual. Bottom line - I loved and thoroughly enjoyed the book from cover to cover!

Another delightful historical read from Ms. Collins. Even without reading the previous entries in the series, it is easy to become absorbed in the story. The heroine, Gemma, is a strong woman with depth noted for her passion and devotion to those around her. Despite her intelligence, though, she makes some rather thoughtless decisions. Luckily she has the good-natured and gentle Cameron to watch her back. Not only is he considerate, his chemistry with Gemma is evident from their first encounter.

Collins is a skilled writer who created both an interesting cast of characters and story. The story is engrossing from page one with a romance interwoven with mystery. The final installment to a beloved series, One of the Rogue a well-written Regency romance.

This is a wonderfully well written story with strong characters. Gemma is the last of the Beauchamp heiress unmarried, and she means to stay that way. She is a female scholar who studies geology and collects fossils.
Cam is her brother-in-laws brother who is also a scholar in the same field. They got off on the wrong foot when she found out he was the editor who refused to publish her research paper several months before partly because of her gender. When he returns to the area to attend an all male scholars meeting they meet again. However, this time they find themselves betrothed to each other which neither of them want ,solving a murder, and trying to find the stolen fossil Gamma discovered. The attraction is strong between them and they must keep their hands to themselves if they intend to break off the betrothal, but fate has a different plan for them.

I enjoyed Cam and Gemma's story very much and highly recommend. I received this book from Net valley for an honest review.

Book four in the series and I didn't think it could get any better. I was wrong, this was even better, Gemma and Cam had a wonderful chemistry, and the storyline was good too

4.5 Stars

Gemma Hastings, along with fellow scholars Ivy, Daphne, and Sophia, were bequeathed equal shares in Beauchamp House by the late Celeste Beauchamp, provided they meet the terms. Although the four women began somewhat as competitors, they soon became fast friends, each one having a passion for a different type of art or field of study. Over the last several months, amidst murder, mystery, and mayhem, Ivy, Daphne, and Sophia have fallen in love and married, leaving Gemma alone in the house with her chaperone, Serena. Celeste left each of the four women a task to perform, along with clues. However, she died before completing Gemma's, so Gemma has been searching Celeste's records, hoping to find more information.

Lord Cameron Lisle is a duke's son, and is brother-in-law to Sophia, who happens to be Gemma's sister. Cameron is also a geologist, and editor of Annals of Natural History. He rejected an article that was submitted by Gemma, causing some initial hostility between them. Since their respective siblings are now married, and they have a family connection, they are trying to maintain civility.

When a gathering of all male geologists in the neighborhood of Beauchamp House brings to life a twenty year old rumor concerning a possible significant find by Celeste, the villain(s) crawl out of the woodwork. Yet another murder happens, and a mysterious fossil is stolen. Gemma is furious at the theft, and is determined to take part in the investigation. Cam finds himself very eager to protect Gemma, as all his entreaties will not keep her away from the danger at hand.

Though Gemma is determined to remain unmarried, she's not blind to Cameron's appeal. A few stolen kissed surely won't cause any harm. As for Cam, he quickly became impressed with Gemma's intelligence and knowledge, though he was aware of her beauty all along. Their shared kisses lead to a temporary betrothal while they try to solve the mystery. Though both Cam and Gemma would have to be considered stubborn, I love how they rationalized things out in their own minds, changing their thoughts about love and marriage. I like how their liking of each other grew along with their passion.

ONE FOR THE ROGUE is the finale of the STUDIES IN SCANDAL series, one that I enjoyed very much. I like Cam and Gemma, who were alike in many ways - strong, determined, intelligent, stubborn, yet willing to be flexible. Their romance had a shaky start, but developed nicely. Author Manda Collins has a smooth and lovely writing style that is so easy to read, and always leaves me smiling.

This is voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This is book four in a series and I have not read any of the previous books. Most of the book was easy to follow along and be readable as a stand alone book but there were a couple of times that I felt like I was missing a bit of the story.

Most of the book was about the four women who inherited Lady Celeste's estate along with the quest that each woman had to accomplish to prove herself. After a bit of bickering, Cameron and Gemma realized that they were attracted to each other.

I found it a bit hard to get in to the book until Gemma found the skull and then the action started. There were times that I initially didn't like either Gemma or Cameron but as the book progressed, I started to like them.

There were a few twists to the story so it kept you guessing who the murderer was and how all these things were connected. One thing that was not cleared up was why the culprit waited 20 years to search for the skull.

With an ARC copy, I know to not point out spelling errors but there were a few cases of not just grammatical errors but words or lines missing which made a couple things hard to understand. Hopefully, those will be addressed before the book is released.

Miss Gemma Hastings is soon to be the owner of Beauchamp House. Gemma was one of four heiresses with special intellectual capabilities chosen to spend a year at Beauchamp House. These four ladies had been named in Lady Celeste Beauchamp’s will for a chance to be the owner of the House. The other three ladies have since married which puts them out of the running.

Gemma was left a half-finished letter by Lady Celeste where she had hidden her magnificent fossil find. It is believed that Lady Celeste found a marine lizard fossil that had washed up on the beach after a storm. She subsequently hid the fossil because she knew other people with her same interest in fossils might want to find it for their own collection. Gemma hopes to find it and finally be recognized by the Royal Society made up of men.

One night, Gemma sees a light out by the cliffs by the beach and goes to investigate. She sees it is Lord Cameron (Cam) Lisle, the brother of her sister’s husband, Lord Benedick, the local Vicar. Cam is as enthralled with fossils as Gemma, but they are at odds with one another because she feels he does not take her work seriously because she’s a woman. Gemma agrees to show the Beauchamp collection to Cam, Sir Everard Healy, and another man who are all impressed.

After a storm, Gemma discovers the lizard marine fossil half washed out of the cliffs. When she goes for help to bring it home, Sir Everard jumps in and claims that he was the one to find it and even if it’s on Beauchamp property, he says it’s his. The next day, he is found dead on the beach and the fossil is missing.

Gemma and Cam begin working closely together to find out who killed the man and took the fossil. This closeness sparks an immediate attraction and as they are discovered kissing, some think they should marry. But, Gemma has always sworn she will never marry. Will she find the prized fossil and be able to find the killer as well? Will she and Cam be able to continue their relationship?

This was a difficult book to get into. As I have read the other books in the series, I had a hard time trying to remember all of the characters. This is my problem with books in a series. Authors do their readers a huge disservice when they expect that a reader has just finished their previous novel and do not give a good synopsis of the previous plots. Quite frankly, I’m glad this series is over because it has dragged out long enough.
