Manda Collins is an amazing writer. Let's get that straight right now. HOWEVER, her books are either huge hit or a big miss for me, and unfortunately, this book was a big miss. I just didn't like the main characters. There wasn't anything that drew me to them, and in fact, I was a bit turned off by both of them. Cam was a misogynist until he suddenly saw Gemma's breasts, and then all of a sudden he appreciated her for her beauty and wit. He became her protector. She even asked him point blank if he changed because of how she looked, and he's like no, of course not....RIGHT. It was just a coincidence that he changed after he saw her prettified.

And then there's Gemma, who is a strong, independent woman but almost too strong to be likeable? I like women who can defend themselves, and she could definitely do that. But her stubborn will felt childish to me. Even when logic says be careful, someone is out to kill you and has killed before, she just doesn't want to be held back by "the man." There are times when the man is right and you should stand down. Accept help. Chill. Out.

Ultimately, this book was just pulled down by the main characters. I think it had a lot of potential, but I couldn't connect to the main characters.

If only my ereader would hold a good charge I could have finished this in a day or two. I felt it to be well written with twists to keep your interest. This was a new author for me but I gave it a try and was glad I did. It peaked my interest so I will be giving more interest in this author.

I love this series. And I love Gemma as a heroine. Not only is she feisty and fierce, she's determined. And she makes for an extremely likable character. Lord Cameron Lisle is also a fave, because he recognizes his faults and makes amends. I love the enemies to lovers trope and I love how sweet Lord Cameron is with Gemma, though he's still a bit of a rake. Best of both worlds.

This is a fun series and makes a fantastic summer read.

A cute story about a head-strong and independent woman set on staying unmarried and focusing her life on her geology field, and one equally stubborn male geologist that can’t help butting heads with her every time they meet.  The story had adventure, a murder mystery, a theft that needed to be solved, and two people so perfect for each other that they couldn’t help but get onto each others’ nerves every chance they got.  It also had passion and a sweet love story.  It did have a few slow moments but overall it was an enjoyable and well-developed story. It didn't have any emotional strife or tension that can heighten a story, but it was cute and enjoyable and I liked the two main characters quite a bit.

I have really enjoyed this series. There was one point in this book when I was so mad for what Gemma was going through but we both survived :-) I am hoping there will be another book with Serena's story in the future. Thanks for the entertainment!

The last of the heiress meets her match and it is a funny and mysterious story due to the presence of huge lizards....I like this book where the characters fell in love despite their better judgment and in the end everybody has their happy ending.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

I had a really tough time getting into this story and found that I never really got into it. I would put it down and not look forward to coming back to it. I just wanted more...more heat, more chemistry, more fireworks. This was just boring. The most exciting party of the story was the murder mystery and that I didn't figure out. That addition to the story is the saving grace of this book so if you're not too picky about romance, this may be the book for you.

Sophia gravely misses Lady Celeste, the lady who recently brought her and three other heiresses together to help them with their studies. Lady Celeste also left each lady a clue before passing away. That clue is supposed to lead them to an artifact of value. Unfortunately, Lady Celeste passed on before she completed her letter to Sophia that contained her clue.

Sophia cannot stand her brother-in-law Cameron "Cam" Lisle, or so she tells herself. When circumstances bring them together, Sophia finds herself torn as to how she should feel about Cam. Sophia knows the mysterious Beauchamp lizard is just waiting to be discovered, but never expects someone to lose their life over it. Sophia must solve this mystery before it's too late. The adventure continues in ONE FOR THE ROGUE.

Author Manda Collins's STUDIES IN SCANDAL series is a great way to pass your time. It consists of four novels, READY SET ROGUE, DUKE WITH BENEFITS, WALLFLOWER MOST WANTED and ONE FOR THE ROGUE. Each novel can be read as a standalone, but all add something extra to the series. I recommend reading them in order for the full effect. ONE FOR THE ROGUE is the last heiress, Sophia's story. It is full of mystery, romance and adventure. Fans of Ms. Collins will not want to miss it.

Bluestocking Miss Gemma Hastings love is fossils and stones but she is despondent that her benefactress at Beauchamp House appears not to have left her any clues as to where she can find her “greatest fossil-hunting find”. That however is about to change, along with her opinion of Lord Cameron Lisle, her new brother-in-law. A fitting end to a series of books about four heiresses but can be read as a standalone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

There are 4 young ladies who are brilliant scholars in their respective fields. They have been chosen to be honored by a woman who admires women with good minds. There have been 3 earlier books about 3 of the young ladies. Now we have Gemma. Gemma is an expert in fossil hunting and studying the history of her finds. She has been encouraged by an aunt to never consider marriage. Gemma believes that will be easy for her. Gemma is wrong.

Lord Cameron Lisle is also a fossil hunter. He is not an heir so he is in no hurry to do anything but follow his passion for hunting fossils. He likes his life.

The one time Gemma and Cam have met, they had an big argument. He refused to print an article she wrote. He did not believe women were capable of being as knowledgeable as she claimed. She found it impossible to believe he could be so impossible.

That argument is forgotten when they have an opportunity to really have a conversation. She believes that she may have found a very special fossil which proves the existence of a large lizard which once lived on the English coast. He is willing to help her prove her find.

When another fossil hunter is found murdered, Cam and Gemma begin to work together in order to find the murderer as well as retrieving the skull which has gone missing.

Although this is part of a series, it works easily as a stand alone read. Characters appear from past books, but they are introduced and easily identified.

I have enjoyed the 3 previous books in the series. I had some issues with this book. Cam is identified as a supposed rogue. But, he immediately morphs into someone who is continually apologizing for being himself.

I would have enjoyed some more conflict between Gemma and Cam. She comes off as a spoiled brat who is unwilling to listen to anyone while he appears to be willing to surrender his identity in order to make Gemma happy.

For me, it would have been better if she were a little more able to see things from another perspective. Or listen to her sister and her friends.

The mystery is not the main focus of the book. It is relatively easy to find the villain. The main focus of the book is the growing relationship between Gemma and Cam. She begins to see him as a person rather than a competitor. He begins to respect her for her intelligence as well as her ability to be charming and humorous when she chooses.

Ms Collins writes a really terrific story. I hope there is a plan to give Serena her own story, she deserves the attention.

I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are my own.

Two people, Gemma and Cam come together due to their love of fossils but not of each other. As Gemma has sworn never to marry and Cam wants a bride who is biddable their is no romance between them but things change as they are thrown together, more and more. There is a HEA but not before there is a thief of a fossil, a murder, a pretend marriage and an attempted murder. The book is a great read and I would highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book thru Netgalley.

By Manda Collins, Book #4 in the series Studies in Scandal, One for the Rogue can be read without knowledge of the previous books. The main characters in this one, the geologist Gemma Hastings and fossil hunter Lord Cameron Lisle, had already crossed swords - I mean, appeared in Book#3.

Gemma, the last heir to Lady Celeste's house still unmarried, faces the challenge to find what exactly her benefactress left for her, since the old lady had no time to finish her instructions for Gemma. Not only does Gemma have to find that, she also has to prove her value as a scientist. Gee, life is not easy, especially if her main opponent is handsome and intriguing!

Lord Cameron couldn't stand the opinionated Gemma in Book#3... But wait a minute! He starts to notice her dedication to her studies/work and, because of the murder of a fellow fossil hunter, Cam spends more time with the young lady and... Well, it doesn't take long for him to notice how wrong he was.

Finally, I hope Ms. Burke writes a novella about a secondary character of this series: Serena.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the story but didn't love it, I guess I was expecting more argumentative banter between Gemma and Cam since since had disliked him from last book but we really didn't get that. I also found it a little slower than I tend to like, but it is what it is, hopefully you will enjoy it more than me..

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book.

I enjoyed this latest book in the Studies in Scandal series.

Gemma is not afraid to investigate when someone steals one of her discoveries even if it means she is putting herself in further danger. While Gemma and Cameron hadn’t gotten off to a good start, Cameron sees that she is knowledgeable and he finds himself having to rethink some of his preconceived notions. He offers to help Gemma. The investigation brings these two together allowing them to evaluate whether they are perfect for each other or not.

I liked that both Cameron and Gemma have to step back and evaluate their first impressions of each other and that they were open to change their previously held views.

Another excellent read from Ms. Collins. The story is bright, the heroine is smart and the hero is a dream. I love that mysteries are always a part of Ms. Collins’ stories. Cam and Gemma are both fossil hunters who get in each other’s way but with that comes working together to solve the mystery…with romance as a side dish. Again the culprit was not who you might think.

I have not seen anything but am hoping that Serena gets a story. She definitely deserves it after putting up with all of the lady scholars.

This was the 4th and final book in the Studies in Scandal series. I was looking forward to reading this one and wasn't disappointed. Ms. Collins has written another engaging and enjoyable book. Geologist Gemma Hastings is the last of the 4 Beauchamp heiresses to remain at the house trying to unravel the puzzle that Celeste Beauchamp left for her. Unfortunately, Gemma's letter from Celeste was unfinished due to her untimely demise and it's up to Gemma to figure out what Celeste would have left for her. Complicating her studies in geology is her abject shun from the men in the field, especially Lord Cameron Lisle, editor of a prestigious magazine. Cam had rejected Gemma's submission and that rejection led to a less than pleasant social call. Can these two stubborn scholars get past their animosity to realize that they have more in common than they realize?

This book can be read as a stand alone story, but to get the full benefit of everything that has gone on at Beauchamp house since the four young women first arrived, it would be beneficial to read all the stories. I really enjoyed this series. Ms. Collins has shown that women in the Regency era had to fight against so many prejudices that women could be brilliant in their own right. It was fun watching as each young woman experienced not only scholarly pursuits, but also the attentions of swoon-worthy men. One did not need to forego love to be the best version of themselves they could be. Definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed Gemma and Cam's story!

Gemma and Cam's first meeting (in Wallflower Most Wanted) didn't go so well, but you could see that there was an attraction there from the start. When Gemma runs into trouble with the fossil she found, she reluctantly accepts the help that Cam is offering her. This of course, means that they are spending much more time together. As they get to know the other, they realize that their first impressions are not a full picture of the other person. Both are determined not to marry, but as they get closer to each other, they both question that decision. Can they find their HEA together?

This was a great conclusion to the Studies in Scandal series. Although I'm hoping that we get at least one more as their is someone else that still needs her HEA ;).

Compared to the other books in the series, One for the Rogue felt a little lacklustre and I was glad to finally finish it and put it down. The pacing dragged in parts and the ultimate climax to the mystery felt beyond the realms of believable. Cam and Gemma also felt underdeveloped, with little growth and not enough passion.

This was such a fun and lovely historical to read--complete with a murder mystery, a scholarly and enigmatic matriarch, a hate-to-love romance, and an elusive fossil. The characters were all so much fun that I want to go back and read the rest of the books in this series just to learn more about and get to know these characters (especially Kerr and Maitland). I also really enjoyed Collins' writing and how she incorporates so much into heart and adventure and sarcastic humor into her novels. This story reminded me of A Week to be Wicked, which was written by my favorite HR author of all-time Tessa Dare. That's the highest compliment I can give, so give this one (and the rest of this series) a read!

I quite enjoyed this conclusion to the Studies in Scandal series! Gemma and Cam had great chemistry. I felt the book built on the themes of the rest of the series without being repetitive. Overall, a fun read and highly recommended.
