4 Stars! This is the 4th book in this series but it’s the first one I’ve read. I was a bit confused here & there about a few things since I haven’t read the first three books in the series, so I’d call this a semi-standalone-can be read alone with just a few missing pieces. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book! I wasn’t 100% sure who the bad guy was throughout the book because it kept me guessing it was this guy or maybe that guy or maybe that other guy! This book has a little bit of murder, a bit of mystery & a little falling in love while solving said murder/mystery! It’s a really good story!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own!*
Overall it was good but I would need to read the first 3 books since they are all connected with all the ladies coming together at the end of this book in a celebration. The myster and romance was great, the sex was quick and lacking. If I read them all I would knew their stories and how it all comes together.
I volunteered to read an Uncorrected Digital Galley of this book from NetGalley.
Cam and Gemma are such a dynamic pair. Both have common interests and when they realize that is to their benefit instead of a hindrance, sparks fly. You will love this final installment of the Beauchamp Heiresses and it will leave you wanting more.
Finally! This is the fourth in a series of books about four young women, all standouts in their areas of study, who have inherited an estate from an older, educated woman, but with a special caveat. In this fourth novel, Gemma is an aspiring geologist and she is searching for fossils on the seaside estate. She has a run in with the brother-in-law of one of her fellow heiresses, as he controls a published magazine of sorts with articles written by educated fossil hunters. Unfortunately though, Lord Cameron has declined to publish Gemma’s written work. Gemma sees this as an affront to her abilities based solely on her gender. The two seem to be at constant odds with each other- but could it be attraction? It’s actually the start of a wonderful romance and mystery filled with intrigue and heat.
Several characters from the three previous books appear and add color and humor to the tale. The reader is thrown into a series of events, including a murder, that keep the pages turning. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the entire series and highly recommend it. I do hope that the heiresses’ chaperone, Lady Serena, someday has her story told as well.
Manda Collins has written an enjoyable Regency Romance. Gemma Hastings is one of several women who has been left part of an estate with certain caveats...mainly that whomever can solve the puzzle the left for each heiress and is still single at the end of one year with be the one who inherits the estate permanantly. Emma is the last of the scholarly women who has remained unmarried and has no interest in marrying...until a certain Lord comes into her life. Will she be able to resist his charms in order to inherit the estate? And not give up her study of geology in the process? Don't miss this fun and mesmerizing novel, you won't be disappointed!
This book wasn't as great as the last couple have been. It was still a funny read.
This is book four in the series. The fourth lady now has her adventure. This is a Romance and Murder mystery rolled into one! I enjoyed the story greatly.
Murder, mystery, and a stolen fossil, O My!!
When I did my Amazon search of the stories in the Studies in Scandal books, they did not appear to be numbered or even linked together. I have listed them according to their publication dates. Although they are stand-alone books, they continue a central theme of the ladies having a quest/problem to solve that will involve their inheritance. This is book 4 in the series and characters from the previous books are on hand and are involved with the current story line. The author did an excellent job of filling the reader in on the previous stories in case they had not read them. It was very helpful in setting the foundation for this story.

Book blurb: “Geologist Gemma Hastings has no interest in pursuing romance –and no patience for Lord Cameron Lisle, and esteemed fossil hunter who has a way of always honing in on her territory…”
Rating: MA: mature audience: graphic sex scenes.
What I liked: bluestocking maidens thrown together in a society of intellect and genius, who sometimes acted as Bow Street Runners when they had to solve problems [OK… murder, mayhem and mischief], while finding their true love. These ladies were a menace to themselves and to any unsuspecting male of fortune or title. O my!!
We have societal constraints on women of this era as they fight for recognition within their various fields. Each lady had her own field of study and we were entertained as she fought for her right to be independent and not be forced to marry because society said that was what a woman should do. In this book 4, Gemma fought for her rights in the field of geology and the natural sciences.
There were many scenes that were hilarious as Gemma, who was supposed to be so intelligent, was ditzy as all get out and was constantly getting herself and Lord Cam in trouble. She blazed head long into situations without thinking through the steps necessary to complete her mission. That seemed incongruous as she was methodical in her fossil research and note taking, yet at times, she couldn’t think her way out of a paper bag. Several times I was, once again, pulled away from the story due to her stupid antics. What the heck???
What I didn’t like: the blasé manner in the discussions of sexual intimacy. The sexual tension was palpable as they discussed and talked about it all-through-the-book. At one point they were even discussing how the previous couples hooked up. Really? What era was this? It sounded awfully modern to me. In fact, the era lines became more and more fuzzy as the story progressed. It was like every scene was propelling us toward that eventual bedroom scene. At one point, they were driving down the road in a curricle and it could have easily been a Trans Am convertible and I wouldn’t have known the difference. The lines were that blurred. It was distracting and was constantly pulling me from the story as they talked on and on about propriety and consequences, yet the whole time they continued to push the boundaries toward the inevitable… anticipating their vows. It did not come across as sexy and I resented it. When you plan, scheme, and maneuver… that’s not sexy or romantic.
Note: I volunteered to read an Uncorrected Digital Galley of this book. The views expressed are my own. I wish to give special thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for allowing me this privilege. Estimated publication: date June 26, 2018.
I received an ARC of this book to read from the publisher in exchange for a fair review. One For The Rogue is the fourth book in Manda Collins’s Study in Scandal Series. It’s a great series and I recommend reading them all. Gemma Hastings is the last unmarried Beauchamp heiress and she has no plans to change her marital status in fact quite the opposite, she cannot conceive of being able to pursue her studies in geology and paleontology as a wife. Each of the Beauchamp heiresses was given a mystery to solve with clues provided by their benefactress Celeste Beauchamp but Gemma despairs of being able to solve the mystery she was assigned because her letter was left unfinished. Lord Cameron Lisle is brother-in-law to Gemma’s sister Sophia and publisher of a scientific journal that declined to publish her research as well as a collector of fossils also has no interest in marriage. Gemma and Cameron find themselves working together to when they discover a dead body and a fossil Gemma was trying to unearth missing. Could the missing fossil be the answer to the quest set for Gemma? Adversaries to lovers is a favourite story line of mine and Manda Collins has written an excellent one. Medium steam #OneForTheRogue #NetGalley
This was a nice easy read. I don’t mind the insta love. The hero had a stupid hang up relating to his fathers infidelity. The reason behind the fathers infidelity was the stupidest thing I have ever read. It really has no impact on the book though so I won’t rant about it.
One For The Rogue by Manda Collins is a phenomenal historical romance. Ms. Collins has once again delivered a book that is not only well-written but populated with outstanding, lovable characters. Gemma is the last heiress of Beauchamp House and is a geologist and loves digging for fossils. Cam is also a geologist and is the brother of Gemma's brother-in-law. The last thing either of them desires is an entanglement with the other. Gemma and Cam's story is packed with drama, humor, action, suspense and sizzle. I enjoyed every page of this book and can't wait to read my next book by Manda Collins. One For The Rogue is book 4 of the Studies In Scandal Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An adorable non traditional, historical romance. A Gem of a readvwith a heroine named Gemma who is a real find and a bonafide Geologist. The hero Cam is also noteworthy. Highly recommend to those who enjoy laughs with romance
Fourth in the Studies In Scandal series, One For The Rogue is as engrossing as the previous books.
Geologist Gemma Hastings strives to complete her task, even though her instructions were abbreviated by the death of Lady Celeste.
Lord Lisle also a geologist doesn't think much of women in the field.
After a unsatisfying introduction to Lord Cameron Lisle, and a few disagreements, the two began to work together to solve the puzzle left for Gemma.
Toss in a stolen fossil, a murder mystery, sexual attraction and family interference to add to this tale of romance.
Ms. Collins' descriptions and writing style make this book an enjoyable read.
I was granted an ARC from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
I liked, One for the Rogue. It was a great end to the series. I think that Gemma's happy ever after is perfect for her.
As usual, I read this as a standalone. This book has been the most fun to me while reading romance through Netgalley UK! The writing is clear and crisp, never missing a beat.
This author knows how to take charge of the story and its characters. Dialogues are exciting and on-point. Always had me chuckling! I absolutely love it! I for one am swooning (almost too much) at the leading lord and (soon-to-be) lady. Their chemistry really sizzles.
I also found the protrayal of Sophie and Benedick’s (heroine’s sister and brother-in-law respectively) relationship endearing; giving wise counsel to the sometimes hasty couple. I loved every moment reading this book.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!!
This novel was good finale for the Studies in Scandal series. It continues the romance with mystery based on Celeste Beauchamp's letters to four women with great talents. These women try to succeed in their fields of study in a male dominated world. Gemma Hastings is a geologist and has no time for love, nor does she want to be married. Lord Cameron Lisle is a fossil hunter and has prejudged Gemma. However, once he see Gemma in the field and her knowledge of artifacts, he realized how much he misjudged her. Gemma is trying to puzzle out Celeste's incomplete letter to her and needs Cam's help to find the artifact Celeste hid many years ago. However, there are others who want that artifact and will do whatever is necessary, threats and murder to get that artifact. Cam knows he needs to keep Gemma safe from this, but Gemma is stubborn and needs to find that artifacts. What Gemma never expected was these feelings she has towards Cam and Cam never expected to ever want to marry. Cam knows life with Gemma would never be boring and he will do whatever is necessary to change her mind about marriage to him. Gemma and Cam cannot fight their attraction to each other as they spend more time together. But the villain is still out there. Will they be able to find the artifact and stop the villain before the villain strikes again?
Thanks to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy of this book, the latest in the series about the heiresses of Beauchamp House. This book would be better read as part of the series but standalone would be fine too. A mystery romance with captivating characters and an intriguing storyline. I’m now awaiting what I hope will be the next part of the series, the tale of Serena. .
