I received an ARC in return of an honest review.

I wasn't excited to get the notification that this book was available for me to review. I have read the three previous books in this series and could not wait to read the final installment. You do not necessarily have to read the previous books, but since the events and characters from them are mentioned frequently, it will definitely help and make things a little more clear for the reader.

Gemma is the last of the blue-stocking scholars to remain unwed and is perfectly content to never marry and dedicate herself to her geology work. Even though her first interaction with the hero, Cameron who is also her sister's new brother-in-law, resulted in them developing a hostile relationship with each other, they cannot help the attraction that they feel for one another.

When events in the story put in harm's way, Cameron doesn't hesitate to protect her and help her find out the truth. Reading their story and seeing them fall in love mixed in with the hijinks that ensure made me laugh and feel second hand embarrassment for both of them.

The only complaint that I have with the book is how quickly the characters fall in love in Manda Collins's books. Their interactions with each other do not feel rushed but within three days of getting to know each other, they were already starting to wonder if they were in love and that made the story less realistic to me. Cameron's brother Benjamin's hypocritical reaction to their relationship was also annoying but neither were so much that it made the book considerably less enjoyable.

I could tell that I received an early draft of the book because there were many grammatical errors, scenes that you could tell had been in previous drafts but not removed, and inconsistencies in the story. One chapter featured the couple meeting a character and while they are having a conversation, the next line jumps back to them meeting the same character again with completely different dialogue and thoughts of the characters.

Despite this I enjoyed the end of this series and I plan on buying it when it comes out so that I can read the final draft. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of historical romance novels. I hope that we will see Serena get a story of her own some day in the future and we can see a little more and the blue stocking house.

I received a copy of this title from the publisher for an honest review. One for the Rogue is the final title in the title in the Study in Scandal series but can easily be read as a stand alone. Sophia is the last of the four heiresses selected by Lady Celeste to inherit her home and carry on their studies in their respective fields. Determined to remain single and focus on her fossil hunting to make her aunt and Lady Celeste proud, Sophia finds herself drawn to her brother-in-law and fellow fossil hunter Cameron Lisle when events throw the two together. Some months previously, Cam had rejected an article Sophia submitted to his academic journal; she believes the fact that she is female is the sole reason for the rejection. While attending an all male gathering of fossil hunters in the neighborhood, Cam escorts several other guests to Beauchamp house to view Lady Celeste's collection. When one of the guests attempts to claim Sophia's find as his own and winds up murder, Cam finds himself drawn into a series of events to try and solve both the murder and the mystery of what happened to the Beauchamp lizard. Sophia and Cam find themselves fighting their attraction and after being caught in a compromising position agree to a temporary engagement. As they work to discover who the murder is and what happened to the Beauchamp lizard, Sophia and Cam learn that they are better together than alone.

This book is 4.25 stars for me which winds down to 4 stars. Like other Manda Collins titles, there is a good balance of romance and mystery. I'm hoping that Lady Serena will get her own happily ever after in an upcoming book.

An overall enjoyable read, even if the middle dragged.

I had been looking forward to this title since Cam and Gemma’s meeting in the last title. It wasn’t necessarily a disappointment, but I was still somehow expecting more.

I expected more fireworks given how much Gemma seemed to dislike Cam when they first met but they barely argued after that first meeting and I felt a little robbed.

I also don’t feel like I know either character any more now than I did at the beginning. Cam is supposedly a rogue but I don’t know what was supposed to be so roguish about him. And Gemma was stubborn. Those are their defining characteristics.

I did enjoy the mystery surrounding the fossil and didn’t know who did it (though I had my guesses) until the very end.

I will be reading more from Manda Collins.

Captivating tale full of suspense and heart

I truly enjoy Manda Collons writing style. It is a fresh approach you do not see every day with intriguing twists on classic stories and poems. She brings them to life with her talent weaving layers of mystery, suspense and romance.

This is the last of the series of untraditional ladies of the time period. Although you don’t have to read the others to enjoy this one. This one has murder and mystery. I enjoyed seeing Cam and Emma’s relationship while trying to solve all the puzzles. Great book

One for the Rogue is about Geologist Gemma Hastings the last single bluestocking that is residing in the Beauchamp’s estate, and how life becomes complicated with men attempting to steal, kill, and love her, for a fossil that may or may not be a myth. Dangers requires protection, and that protection comes in the form of Lord Cameron Lisle, a fellow fossil hunter who finds her exasperating but suddenly has changed his view of her. Forced in a fake betrothal for the sake of convenience and a mystery to solve, Gemma and Cam learn about each other and both become pleasantly surprised.

It was enjoyable to read, perhaps at times far-fetched but delightful nonetheless. Recommended.

I received and D/ARC from Netgalley and St. Martins for an honest review.

“One for the Rogue” by Manda Collins is the fourth book in the Studies in Scandal series, and the conclusion of the series. Even though I have only read one other book in the series the way she crafted her story and weaved in the backstories of the others in the book I was not lost and it easily read as a standalone for me. I highly recommend the final book in this series. Gemma and Cam’s story was a fantastic read. This book has a creative plot that is wonderfully executed and rich in details, is well written and its main characters are well defined. The story is captivating and held my interest from beginning to end. It was both a love story and a murder mystery. Gemma Hasting and Lord Camron Lisle are both geologists and their first meeting in book three did not go very well. They developed an instant disliked for each other. “One for the Rogue” is both a turning point in their relationship toward romance and a murder mystery. Both are forced to work together and neither fossil hunter wants a romance but fate had other ideas. Ms. Collins knows how to weave a story that has substance and a great deal of detail. Her storyline blends romance, with suspense and mystery with a surprise who done it at the end. I never give spoilers or give away a plot because I feel books are an author’s livelihood and consumers like me should read a book to form their own opinions. Personally I really enjoyed reading “One for the Rogue” and highly recommend it to other readers.
I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and NetGalley for my honest opinion.

4 Stars! This is the 4th book in this series but it’s the first one I’ve read. I was a bit confused here & there about a few things since I haven’t read the first three books in the series, so I’d call this a semi-standalone-can be read alone with just a few missing pieces. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book! I wasn’t 100% sure who the bad guy was throughout the book because it kept me guessing it was this guy or maybe that guy or maybe that other guy! This book has a little bit of murder, a bit of mystery & a little falling in love while solving said murder/mystery! It’s a really good story!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own!*

Overall it was good but I would need to read the first 3 books since they are all connected with all the ladies coming together at the end of this book in a celebration. The myster and romance was great, the sex was quick and lacking. If I read them all I would knew their stories and how it all comes together.

I volunteered to read an Uncorrected Digital Galley of this book from NetGalley.

Cam and Gemma are such a dynamic pair. Both have common interests and when they realize that is to their benefit instead of a hindrance, sparks fly. You will love this final installment of the Beauchamp Heiresses and it will leave you wanting more.

Finally! This is the fourth in a series of books about four young women, all standouts in their areas of study, who have inherited an estate from an older, educated woman, but with a special caveat. In this fourth novel, Gemma is an aspiring geologist and she is searching for fossils on the seaside estate. She has a run in with the brother-in-law of one of her fellow heiresses, as he controls a published magazine of sorts with articles written by educated fossil hunters. Unfortunately though, Lord Cameron has declined to publish Gemma’s written work. Gemma sees this as an affront to her abilities based solely on her gender. The two seem to be at constant odds with each other- but could it be attraction? It’s actually the start of a wonderful romance and mystery filled with intrigue and heat.
Several characters from the three previous books appear and add color and humor to the tale. The reader is thrown into a series of events, including a murder, that keep the pages turning. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the entire series and highly recommend it. I do hope that the heiresses’ chaperone, Lady Serena, someday has her story told as well.

Manda Collins has written an enjoyable Regency Romance. Gemma Hastings is one of several women who has been left part of an estate with certain caveats...mainly that whomever can solve the puzzle the left for each heiress and is still single at the end of one year with be the one who inherits the estate permanantly. Emma is the last of the scholarly women who has remained unmarried and has no interest in marrying...until a certain Lord comes into her life. Will she be able to resist his charms in order to inherit the estate? And not give up her study of geology in the process? Don't miss this fun and mesmerizing novel, you won't be disappointed!

Murder, mystery, and a stolen fossil, O My!!

When I did my Amazon search of the stories in the Studies in Scandal books, they did not appear to be numbered or even linked together. I have listed them according to their publication dates. Although they are stand-alone books, they continue a central theme of the ladies having a quest/problem to solve that will involve their inheritance. This is book 4 in the series and characters from the previous books are on hand and are involved with the current story line. The author did an excellent job of filling the reader in on the previous stories in case they had not read them. It was very helpful in setting the foundation for this story.

Ready Set Rogue: Pub date Jan 3, 2017 [Ivy and Quill]
Duke with Benefits: Pub date June 27, 1017 [Daphne and Dalton]
Wallflower Most Wanted: Pub date Jan 30, 2018 [Sophia and Benedick]
One for the Rogue: Estimated Pub date June 26, 2018 [Gemma and Cameron]

Book blurb: “Geologist Gemma Hastings has no interest in pursuing romance –and no patience for Lord Cameron Lisle, and esteemed fossil hunter who has a way of always honing in on her territory…”

Rating: MA: mature audience: graphic sex scenes.

What I liked: bluestocking maidens thrown together in a society of intellect and genius, who sometimes acted as Bow Street Runners when they had to solve problems [OK… murder, mayhem and mischief], while finding their true love. These ladies were a menace to themselves and to any unsuspecting male of fortune or title. O my!!

We have societal constraints on women of this era as they fight for recognition within their various fields. Each lady had her own field of study and we were entertained as she fought for her right to be independent and not be forced to marry because society said that was what a woman should do. In this book 4, Gemma fought for her rights in the field of geology and the natural sciences.

There were many scenes that were hilarious as Gemma, who was supposed to be so intelligent, was ditzy as all get out and was constantly getting herself and Lord Cam in trouble. She blazed head long into situations without thinking through the steps necessary to complete her mission. That seemed incongruous as she was methodical in her fossil research and note taking, yet at times, she couldn’t think her way out of a paper bag. Several times I was, once again, pulled away from the story due to her stupid antics. What the heck???

What I didn’t like: the blasé manner in the discussions of sexual intimacy. The sexual tension was palpable as they discussed and talked about it all-through-the-book. At one point they were even discussing how the previous couples hooked up. Really? What era was this? It sounded awfully modern to me. In fact, the era lines became more and more fuzzy as the story progressed. It was like every scene was propelling us toward that eventual bedroom scene. At one point, they were driving down the road in a curricle and it could have easily been a Trans Am convertible and I wouldn’t have known the difference. The lines were that blurred. It was distracting and was constantly pulling me from the story as they talked on and on about propriety and consequences, yet the whole time they continued to push the boundaries toward the inevitable… anticipating their vows. It did not come across as sexy and I resented it. When you plan, scheme, and maneuver… that’s not sexy or romantic.

Note: I volunteered to read an Uncorrected Digital Galley of this book. The views expressed are my own. I wish to give special thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for allowing me this privilege. Estimated publication: date June 26, 2018.

I received an ARC of this book to read from the publisher in exchange for a fair review. One For The Rogue is the fourth book in Manda Collins’s Study in Scandal Series. It’s a great series and I recommend reading them all. Gemma Hastings is the last unmarried Beauchamp heiress and she has no plans to change her marital status in fact quite the opposite, she cannot conceive of being able to pursue her studies in geology and paleontology as a wife. Each of the Beauchamp heiresses was given a mystery to solve with clues provided by their benefactress Celeste Beauchamp but Gemma despairs of being able to solve the mystery she was assigned because her letter was left unfinished. Lord Cameron Lisle is brother-in-law to Gemma’s sister Sophia and publisher of a scientific journal that declined to publish her research as well as a collector of fossils also has no interest in marriage. Gemma and Cameron find themselves working together to when they discover a dead body and a fossil Gemma was trying to unearth missing. Could the missing fossil be the answer to the quest set for Gemma? Adversaries to lovers is a favourite story line of mine and Manda Collins has written an excellent one. Medium steam #OneForTheRogue #NetGalley

This was a nice easy read. I don’t mind the insta love. The hero had a stupid hang up relating to his fathers infidelity. The reason behind the fathers infidelity was the stupidest thing I have ever read. It really has no impact on the book though so I won’t rant about it.

Sometimes Cam just needs to talk things out with his brother, “of course, I’m attracted to her,” Cam said. Really, his brother was such a simpleton at times. “She’s lovely. Maddening as **ll, but lovely.” Cam is learning that sometimes it's best to just please his woman, "realizing that she would very likely argue until he succumbed, he allowed her to drape the coat over his upper body, too." I really liked this book, I fell in love with Cam.

One For The Rogue by Manda Collins is a phenomenal historical romance. Ms. Collins has once again delivered a book that is not only well-written but populated with outstanding, lovable characters. Gemma is the last heiress of Beauchamp House and is a geologist and loves digging for fossils. Cam is also a geologist and is the brother of Gemma's brother-in-law. The last thing either of them desires is an entanglement with the other. Gemma and Cam's story is packed with drama, humor, action, suspense and sizzle. I enjoyed every page of this book and can't wait to read my next book by Manda Collins. One For The Rogue is book 4 of the Studies In Scandal Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
