It was a solid read; certainly not a bad book at all, but I just wasn't entertained enough to sit and read continuously. It took me a while to finish because I could easily put it down and it not draw my attention enough to read. Very likable characters, and I understood the story even without reading the previous two installments of the series. You can find my original quick review here: http://bit.ly/2DsiohQ |
This is the final book in the Sons of Broad series and what a thrill ride it has been. You do need to read this series from the beginning with the three prequel novellas that sets the scene. There is an overall story arc that you need to follow throughout the series. Definitely worth the read. |
This book had me on the edge of my seat begging to know hat was going to happen next. It had so suspense and thrill that it honestly left me reeling once I finally was done. I loved the characters in particular Kipling and Alyssa just had this chemistry that was undeniable. And I loved watching how the two of them interacted. As they uncovered more and more secrets and made the story so intricate and crazy. This was such a well written story and had such relatable and well developed characters that you won't be able to put it down. With you making guesses every turn. A five star review from me! |
This book wasn’t for me. I decided not to review it on my site or any of the major retailers/Goodreads. |

First book read by this author. Kipling and Alyssa must work together to find the clues and locations for their kidnapped family members. Good story line and suspense. Ebook from net galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own. |
4 1/2 STARS! An explosive conclusion to the mystery that's been haunting the Benedict family! If you've been following along with the series, you will recognize both of the main characters of this story. Kip has been flirting with sexy cop Alyssa throughout the series and it's finally time for him to make his move. We weave through more mystery and chaos before finally discovering who The Gentleman is and to what lengths he's gone to and why in his quest to ruin the Benedicts. Really enjoyed the series and felt like this was a fitting ending! Charleston police officer Alyssa Adams pledged her life years ago to helping victimized women and to bringing justice for their families, and in this book we find out where her passion came from. She had an older sister she adored that went missing a decade ago and was never heard from again. She's determined to one day find out exactly what happened to her, and the way things are shaking out with the Benedict case, she might be getting closer than she ever though possible! Kipling Benedict can't deny a major attraction to Alyssa every time she's been around during this family trouble of late, so any opportunity to get up close and personal with her is a pleasure ... but this time, he really needs her help! Turns out their long-lost sister that they only recently learned of has now been taking by whoever it is that's torturing their family. He needs Alyssa to help him figure out who it is and track her down before it's too late! |
Alyssa never got over the loss of her sister. She disappeared with out a trace. This is the reason she became a police detective. The case she comes across now involves the Benedict brothers. Especially Kipling. As the case gets deeper and they get closer the secrets they find out makes this case more confusing. They will work together to get to the bottom of this. This story has twists and turns on every page and it was a great read ** I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review** |
Officer Alyssa Adams and billionaire Kipling Benedict are explosive together in the third book in the Sons of Broad series. There is so much going on in this book that it keeps you on your toes following who are the bad and who are the good persons. It really helps if you read the previous books if you want to follow all the other characters and at some stage I will do so, so that I can properly understand the relationships of all the characters. Tara Thomas certainly writes a story of intrigue and I was completely engrossed in this book from beginning to end. The plots of some of the characters are extremely devious and that just adds to the excitement and the unexpected ending. A very enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book. |
The publisher approached me about this book several months ago and I was happy to oblige. The synopsis seemed like it could be read on it's own even though it was part of a series. After about a third of it though, I was wishing I had time to read the previous ones in the series. Since my schedule was so tight, I couldn't stop to do that so I pressed on. The love story was very nice. I especially liked the scene in the church at the beginning. The hot looks, the unwanted stares, the introspect of feelings long kept at bay. The love story works, but the mystery and stalking didn't work for me. There wasn't enough interaction in this book with the antagonist and there didn't seem enough sincerity in Kipling's worry or desire to find his missing sister. It was more about solving Alyssa's sister's death. I know these two lines intersect, but I felt it was lacking in the worry and hurry you would normally find in a kidnapping. There are a few things that bring this one down for me to a 3 of 5 stars. First off, it can be read as a stand alone only if you want the romance and to see a guy work very hard to protect his "damsel in distress", which in fact isn't helpless. If you want to engage in the mystery, you really need to read the whole series. It isn't so much to gain perspective on the other characters as it is the build up of the final take down in this one. Since I felt there was a lack of emotional entanglement in the kidnapping plot, that brings it down also. Again, the saving grace is the romance. That part was well done. So final take, read this series from start to finish. I've been nice enough to provide all the links too. |
This is the third book in this series by this author. This is a romantic suspense story. This book is the final instalment in this series and holds all the answers. This book is packed full of suspense with lots of twists and turns. This book will keep you hooked till the very last page. Amazing characters with an amazing story. Highly recommended series I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book |
Intense and thrilling read with a first rate plot and realistic characters ! Fast paced with unexpected twists and turns ! A must read ! I highly recommend ! Thanks to #Netgalley and #St.Martin'sPress for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review ! #BrokenPromise |
This is my first book by Tara Thomas, so I haven't read the previous books in this series, but I felt I could follow along fine with Broken Promise. I loved the premise for Broken Promise. Alyssa is a police officer, whose sister was murdered when she was younger. The case is still unsolved. Kipling is the eldest Benedict brother; all of whom are very rich. Alyssa and Kipling have a bit of enemies to lovers thing going on, and they grow closer as they work to investigate Alyssa's sister's murder and the kidnapping of Kipling's long lost sister. I liked the suspense, and I really liked how the story was building up in the beginning. This story could've been really awesome, but I think the writing wasn't quite up to the task. The story was still good, so I'd still recommend it. Things just started to drag a bit, and the characters started making stupid choices. Alyssa being a police officer, you would think she'd be better at making intelligent decisions, but that isn't the case. There were a few chapters that take place in the past, that didn't really add anything to the story. Those chapters could've been explained in real time. The characters also lacked a bit of depth; a little bit too surface, but I did enjoy the romance aspect. There's a couple hot scenes between Kipling and Alyssa. I'm on the fence about Tara Thomas, but I think I'll give her books another go. |
My first read by this author and I give it 3 stars. A good romance and a perfect holiday read. I would begin with the first book in the series for background information. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. Review on Goodreads, Amazon and Facebook. |
Broken Promise brings answers to so many unanswered questions from the previous books, and ends the series with a flourish. Alyssa didn't follow her dreams because she made a promise when she was a young girl. She joined the police forces with one objective in mind. Protect women! Kipling, the eldest of the Benedict brothers is the head of the family and their successful business. Despite the adverse portrayal of the media, he is very much a family man. He doesn't trust women due to a bad experience. Kipling and Alyssa are always butting heads. There is an underlying attraction between them and Alyssa has no intention of acting on it. She has worked with the Benedicts in the past year due to threats on various members of the family. Kipling's long lost sibling is abducted and he turns to Alyssa for help. She starts to reveal her past to him and find that there is a common thread between what happened to her sister and the threats on the Benedicts. This convinces her to cooperate with Kipling as they both want to put an end to the uncertainties of those dangerous threats. As they spend time working on the case, the attraction between them intensifies and they eventually stop resisting even though Alyssa has reservations about their status. It appears that the enemy is always a step ahead of them and there is danger in every corner. It turns out that "The Gentleman" is not so much of a mystery as his reasons for relentlessly persuing them. They find evidence that what happened years ago and the present events are all tied to the same individual. They then fall into a deadly trap where "The Gentleman" appears to be have the upper hand. Will they be able to save their sibling and themselves? This is a very well paced story riddled with mystery and suspense. The romance between Kipling and Alyssa is as funny as it is hot. Once they acknowledge their feelings, their love is something to behold. It's an intricate puzzle which is nicely put together to solve the mystery behind all the horrors. A great read. I received an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion. |
I received a copy from NetGalley. It took me a little bit to get everyone straight because I hadn't read the previous books it didn't stop me from needing to figure out this mystery. I was texting my blog partner, who had read the rest of the series, asking who The Gentleman is. She said she didn't know but hoped to find out in this story. I was sucked into trying to put the pieces together and unravel the twisted story-line. I also fell for these characters and all of the pain and love that had gone on in their lives. The author did a brilliant job creating mystery, suspense, heat, and romance. |
4.25-4.5 STARS In this third installment to author Tara Thomas’ Sons of Broad series, the puzzle pieces finally fall into place with the telling of Alyssa & Kipling’s sexy, suspenseful story. Through a series of flashback scenes interspersed throughout, “The Gentleman’s” identity is at last revealed, along with the reason behind his vengeful vendetta. Add Alyssa and Kipling’s steamy romance into the mix, and “Broken Promise” delivers a series finale that’s both captivating and befitting. Taking a leave from the Charleston Police Department, Officer Alyssa Adams teams up with the eldest Benedict brother, Kipling, embarking on a journey that is paved with a myriad of twists and turns. And as they navigate their way through the secrets that are eventually laid bare before them, they are shocked to discover that their respective families are connected in ways that neither one could ever have imagined. But while the story’s suspenseful premise is what initially drew me in, it’s the emotional and physical connection between this mismatched pair that held me captive all the way throughout. Please note: each book in this romantic suspense series builds upon the other, so it is best to start from the very beginning. |
Received in exchange for a honest review. I was waiting for Kipling’s story and wasn’t disappointed. Kipling is the oldest Benedict brother and when you first read about him he seems really cold and distant but he is the opposite. In fact he is smart, sexy and generous. When he learns of Jade there is no anger towards her but wanting to know her. The only person that throws him is Alyssa. She is someone he is insanely attracted to and wants but doesn’t have. In this book, they are in a race of their lives. Trying to figure out who is after the Benedicts and why. But also trying to help Alyssa rest her demons and complete her promise made to her sister all those years ago. Alyssa is the detective who has worked the Benedict’s cases from the beginning. She is sharp as a tack and has a tongue to go with it. She is kind and devoted as well. Her attraction to Kipling is one she fights at first due to him being a Benedict which has her coming off looking like an elitist but she isn’t. She is more afraid than anything else. After the fallout from her last relationship she is scared and less confident in herself in this arena. Now they are together trying to solve murders and put a stop to the danger surrounding them and it is a wild ride. The attraction and interaction between Alyssa and Kipling is sensual to say the least. Kipling banters in innuendo with her most of the time but has a healthy respect for her. He trusts her with him and his family’s lives which says a lot. He also is serious when needed with her. He takes her opinions very seriously and listens to her. Alyssa dishes out as much as she gets and it makes this a fun relationship to watch blossom. Their romance is a sensual balm that has you smile. The story and how Alyssa’s past intertwines into the danger and who they are hunting is amazing. Well written, addictive and intriguing. I love where we see what drives the Gentleman and how deranged he really is. When it comes to a head wowza just wowza. And that ending so amazing. You see family and love shine through but the love for Kipling Alyssa has is just a beacon for him and beautiful. A great story from start to finish that keeps you on your toes as Alyssa and Kipling play cat and mouse with the Gentleman as they find out who he is and work to bring him down and end it all while falling in love. |
Still reeling from discovering that he had a younger half-sister, Kipling Benedict and Officer Alyssa Adams were drawn into a web of destruction by someone threatening to kill the entire Benedict family and destroy the empire they had built in Charleston. Determined to save Jade, Kipling’s sister, and to finally solve the mystery of her sister Allison’s murder, Alyssa throws herself into the fray, working closely with Kipling, and of course, falling in love with him despite the dangerous situations they found themselves in. I read the first book in this series, and wasn’t a fan, honestly. This one was marginally better, but I felt there were too many storylines that unsurprisingly lined up at the end. There’s just more drama than I care to read about, and I couldn’t relate to any of the characters. |
Tara Thomas is a new author to me, and I have to say I was very pleasantly entertained by this book! I will definitely be seeking out more of her writing in the future! |
Broken Promise By Tara Thomas What it's all about... In this book Alyssa...a Charleston detective...is again involved with the Benedict family. I say again because this is the third installment in this series. I read the one before it and it was good enough to make me want to read this one. In this one...Jade...a new member of the wealthy Benedict family...is kidnapped. There is a connection to Alyssa because of her own missing sister...a crime that occurred a long time ago. There is also a huge amount of sexual tension between Alyssa and Kipling...one of the Benedict men. This book is kind of fraught with their sexual tension. Why I wanted to read it... Charleston, mystery, sexual tension...are all really great things in a book. What made me truly enjoy this book... I like the premise of this book...the mystery, the tension, the character called “The Gentleman” and I loved the danger in this book. It’s a great book to read on the beach! Why you should read it, too... I am not certain if I will read any more of these. I liked this book without really loving it. At times I could easily grow weary of the sexy sparring between Alyssa and Kipling...at other times it was fun. Perhaps maybe it went on too long? Readers who like this kind of sultry mystery should enjoy this book and this series. I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and Amazon. It was my choice to read it and review it. |
