In Broken Promise the diabolical Gentleman is revealed and I learned why he is tormenting the Benedict Family. I was stunned by the unexpected twists. This book pulled me in and kept me reading. The action was non-stop. I loved the romance between Kipling Benedict and Police Officer Alyssa Adams. Their attraction has been simmering for some time. I was glad to see them become a couple. I've been waiting for them to act on their chemistry. Tara Thomas has created larger than life characters, a romantic thriller with a deadly adversary and a family that won't stop fighting.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

If you're looking for a truly astounding read this summer. Then you must pick up a copy of Broken Promise a romantic thriller by Tara Thomas.

I had the pleasure of reading this book and like the other books in the Sons of Broad series, this book did not fail to entertain. Though I would recommend reading the books in order of publication. Broken Promise was very intense.

It carried a steady pace throughout the course of the book. I don’t know what book in the series I enjoyed more, though Broken Promise would have to top the list.

Which make this entire series a keeper. With fantastic character building and a flawless plot. Broken Promise was one of my summer guilty pleasures.

The next installment in the Sons of Broad series by Tara Thomas is an instant read. I got some answers to questions from previous books, I got to know a character I had almost forgotten about, I got my slow burn even with instant attraction, and I got my hopes up for an upcoming book to tell Jade’s story.

Kipling Benedict is on the sidelines, metaphorically, watching his brothers find their happily-ever-afters and while he’s not anxious to put a ring on anything, he’s seeing the big picture in front of him. But before he can find his perfect match, he has a pesky problem.

The half-sister he didn’t know he had has now been kidnapped and held for ransom. The Benedict brothers just recently found out about their sister but have not had time to get all the details of where she’s been their entire life. No matter about that, a Benedict has been kidnapped and all hands are on deck to find her.

Kipling needs help and he finds it in Alyssa. We met Alyssa in previous books and her story is sad. She knows way too much about loss and having to watch loved ones disappear. Now she’s going to help Kipling find his sister, having no idea her paths in life are about to get into a giant pretzel with Kipling’s cobblestone walkways. This may seem like a big confusing circus, but Tara Thomas has a way of storytelling and weaving so the reader is not lost on the details.

We know there is some shady character called The Gentlemen and we get his identity and history in this book. We finally get closure on Alyssa’s sister. We find out her parents are truly heinous people and I suspect we have not heard the last of the stepdad.

Jade is such a vivid character and I hope she gets a full-length novel. Nobody puts Jade in a novella that can be soaked up while at some dentists’ waiting room. Give me an hours-long bath and front porch to really take in Jade’s story. Make it happen, Tara!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my honest review.

I loved the first entry in the Sons of Broad series. I wasn't as taken with Broken Promises. It was okay, but it was nothing I rushed to read in one sitting.

Officer Alyssa Adams has never forgotten her sister's murder. Maybe that's why the disappearance of Kipling Benedict's long-lost sister has her riled. She leaves the force in an agreement to help the Benedict brothers find their sister and end the madness the Gentleman has created.

Kipling may have been arrested by Alyssa, but he's not going to blame her for doing her job. In fact, he finds her quite appealing. He cannot let his attraction get in the way of finding his sister, however. Jade's safety is most important to Kipling and his brothers. He's ready to end the Gentleman once and for all.

The Gentleman is a creepy, sadistic man who has been putting the brothers through hell for multiple books. I was glad to see this is the final entry. I didn't find it as gripping as Darkest Night.

As the story progresses, you learn that Jade and Alyssa have an unknown tie. I liked that aspect. It made me tear up a bit. But, I never found Alyssa and Kipling to be that interesting a couple. Their entire relationship seemed rushed and there simply to be there. I didn't buy into a smoldering attraction.

In the end, I'm glad I read the first book in this series. I'm glad I've learned the conclusions to the secrets. I just wish I'd like the romance in this book more than I did.

Do I Recommend this book? Oh hell yes!!

Notes and Opinions: I freaking loved this series and I'm upset it's over though I was excited to find out who The Gentleman was! This was my favorite book of the whole series. Once you get into this book, there is no stopping. It's go, go, go with the plot. Kipling has to be my favorite brother. His relationship with Alyssa was different from the others. There was some romance but they focused more on solving the mystery. The whole situation was who The Gentleman is was very creepy and sort of anti-climatic. I wish there was a more with him at the end. But overall, get this series. You won't regret it one bit!

Review:

I very much enjoy reading this series.

This book starts out after the ending of the second book. I would recommend reading the books in order because of the mystery/suspense that runs through all the books. Alyssa and Kipling were super likable and had great chemistry. I liked their past interactions and the chemistry running between them during each meeting. One thing I found hard to maneuver in the first book was the amount of characters, but this has gotten much better as the series has come along, it is easy to keep everyone straight and what their motivations are. I don't want to give away too much of the plot so as not to ruin it for others. I will say the wrapping up of some of the storylines was very satisfying. There is a lot of action, but there is romance and some good sexy moments too. The romance and these two lovers coming back together was very well-done and I was rooting for them to be together.

Very well-done romantic suspense!

4Stars

I really enjoyed this one, the conclusion of the Sons of Broad series was one of those books that once you start reading you don't want to put down. Compared to the previous installments, I had the feeling that the author had improved the flow of the story and the way she handled the multiple point of views.
I loved the way this story jumps right into the action and suspense while also building the chemistry and connection between Alyssa Adams and Kipling Benedict. The suspense in this book was worthy of nail biting. So much suspense as Alyssa and the Benedict brothers race against time to help identify and bring down the Gentleman.
Alyssa and Kipling’s relationship solidifies around the action involving the villain of this story, which made this another easy and enjoyable read. These two were perfect for each other. Alyssa is sassy, strong and smart. She loves a challenge and never backs down. Kipling is a swoon worthy hero with just the right mix of possessiveness and protectiveness.
Tara Thomas brings back all of the characters from the series’ s first books and novellas. The mystery surrounding the identity of the Gentleman raises the stakes of the story for them. The danger presented by his actions adds stress and tension to an already volatile situation.
Overall, this final installment was action packed, adrenaline fueled, had great side characters, and a sweet romance. The author did a great job of tying up all loose ends and giving me a very satisfying ending.

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

The Benedicts now know that Jade is their sister, a product of one of their father’s secret affairs. They would like to welcome her into the family, but they don’t know where she is! Kipling teams up with police officer, Alyssa, to try to find her. However, Alyssa’s present starts to feel like a repeat of the past when Kipling gets a call that Jade has been kidnapped! He must follow The Gentleman’s instructions if he ever wants to see his sister alive again. He just never expected to have to choose between Jade and Alyssa!

I actually really enjoyed this installment of the series. I love Kipling anyway, so a book featuring him was no hardship for me! We finally figure out what The Gentleman has against the Benedicts and how everything that has happened so far ties together.

Also, this author or editor (not sure which is responsible) has finally discovered page breaks! Hallelujah as that has been a complaint of mine in every book of this series so far! There are still a few places that it was missing one, but it’s a vast improvement! The wrong words in places is still an issue, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the previous book, Deadly Secret.

The edition of the book I read for this review also included a bonus scene. It was a great scene! I loved Knox’s speech and the nice sappy ending that left me grinning like a love-sick idiot!

Everything was tied up in a nice neat bow, so I’m not expecting any more books from this series, but you just never know!

Sultry, sensuous and suspenseful, Tara Thomas’ latest romantic chiller, Broken Promise is an edge of your seat nail-biter guaranteed to make your heart pound!

Charleston Police Officer Alyssa Adams is a woman who does not take her job and the duties and responsibilities it brings with it lightly. Having made a promise to herself to protect the innocent from harm, unite missing children with their family, bring murderers to justice and make evil criminals pay for their crimes and misdemeanors, for Alyssa her job is not a mere means to an end, but a vocation which she takes extremely seriously and which she treats with the utmost respect. Alyssa’s personal life has not been without its problems. Dark shadows still haunt her and more than ten years after the night her sister had disappeared, a grieving Alyssa is still struggling to find the answers to this all consuming mystery. What had happened to her sister? Will she ever find the truth about her disappearance? Or will her sister’s fate and whereabouts remain shrouded in complete mystery?

Kipling Benedict is the eldest of the Benedict brothers and he is fiercely protective of his family. There is absolutely nothing that he would not do for his family, so when their well-being is threatened, Benedict is absolutely incandescent with rage. He will go to any lengths to ensure that his family do not know a moment’s unhappiness, but in order to do so, he needs help and he knows the perfect person to offer him all the assistance and support he requires: Alyssa Adams. Only Alyssa can help him track down his long-lost sister who has been kidnapped by a powerful and devious adversary. Determined to fulfill their quest to find his missing sibling, Alyssa and Kipling need to work together to rescue his sister from danger. But even more dangerous than an enemy hell-bent on revenge and destruction is the powerful attraction that sizzles between them…

Alyssa needs to keep her mind off Kipling and focus on finding his missing sibling. But as their investigation leads them down dark and twisted paths, Alyssa begins to find new information that helps to shed light on her sister’s disappearance more than ten years ago. Will she finally get to the bottom of the mystery behind her sister’s disappearance? Will she and Kipling find his missing sibling? Will their infatuation with one another give way to something more? Or will one broken promise succeed in tearing them apart?

Tara Thomas knocks it out of the park once again with Broken Promise! Once I read the first page of this tense, taut and tantalizing romantic suspense novel I was absolutely hooked and I was up way past my bedtime eagerly turning the pages of Broken Promise and desperate to find out what happens next. Tara Thomas deftly and effortlessly juggles steamy and powerful romance with pulse-racing suspense and jaw-dropping mystery. I absolutely loved dedicated and resilient Alyssa and Kipling was one sexy hero you will find absolutely impossible to resist!

Romantic suspense fans who like their romances packed with plenty of action, drama, sex, emotions and thrills are going to absolutely love Tara Thomas and Broken Promise! A talented writer who knows how to keep her readers riveted to the page, Tara Thomas’ books are simply unmissable!

As this is a new-to-me author, and I haven't read the other two books in the series, I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed the characters and storyline, although it did take me a little bit to get into it, I did like the book overall.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, St. Martin's Press, via NetGalley. My thoughts, opinions, and reviews are my own and without bias.

This is book three of the Sons of Broad series. While I haven't read the other books in the series, I only hope that they are as good as this one!

Officer Alyssa Adams has never gotten over the fact that her sister had gone missing years before. Kipling Benedict has a secret sibling who has now been kidnapped. When this twist of fate causes her to team up with Kipling, she's forced to work with the man she's always tried to avoid.

The chemistry between these two characters is palpable and full of fire. You can tell from the first few pages of the book how Kipling feels for Alyssa, although he's been burned in the past and has no desire to ever be romantically involved with someone again. I enjoy books that combine romance and suspense in such a way that you are drawn in almost immediately. I highly recommend this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the third installment of the Sons of Broad series and this book required the previous books to feel engaged with the storyline. While I was able to read this in one sitting, and the pace of the content was continual, it felt disjointed at times.

The story revolves around the Benedict brothers and Kipling is the center of this book. He is a confirmed bachelor who wants to figure out the events that have happened to his family but soon needs the help of his adversary, Allison, the officer who arrested him from the previous book. The two realize there is chemistry between them and try to prevent a connection but they soon join forces to solve a kidnapping that involves Kipling's sister. As they get deeper into the investigation, they discover there is a link between the kidnapping and the murder of Allison's sister many years ago.

Time is running out as they try to locate Jade, Kipling's sister, but the kidnapper is a step ahead of them and their own lives are in danger. The kidnapper is sinister and devious and has been waiting over 40 years to exact his revenge against the Benedict family. The story has a dramatic ending and leaves an opening to continue the series.

Broken Promises is part of a series and while it can be read as a stand alone novel I think readers will benefit from starting with book 1 instead of book 3.

Tara Thomas is able to bring readers into the world that is part soap opera with missing sisters, cheating spouses and a sister no one knew about. Romance that will have readers needing more and mystery that will have readers needing more after that finished the book.

Broken Promises is a romance where readers know there will be a HEA but it isn't about finding out who is the killer or if they main characters find they are meant for each other. This story is about the journey that brings two people who are meant to be together.

The banter at times flows will with the story and other time feels forced. This is a must read for Romantic Suspense readers.

I should have referred back to my review of book one; the author didn’t leave me caring to find out what happens next. This story does unravel the mystery of The Gentleman so there is that. I still found I did not like this author’s writing style.

What a great story! I have never read Tara Thomas before but I will be looking for her other books. Broken Promise is the story of Kipling Benedict and Alyssa Adams. They meet in a previous book but that is an unimportant detail as this is a stand-alone novel. Alyssa is a Charlotte Police detective and Kipling is the head of the family industry. This book starts at the wedding of one of the Benedict brothers. While both of them feel a mutual attraction, Alyssa is not interested in a relationship. Her life has been focused on finding the person who murdered her sister when Alyssa was a child. But as the plot takes shape, Kipling's half-sister is kidnapped and the 2 main characters team up to find the person behind it. There are many details that begin to come to light and they get closer to both the murderer and the kidnapper. Without giving away any of the plot, this story is full of twists and is well written. The author ties up the loose ends nicely before bringing the novel to its conclusion. A definite 5-star read!

This is the third in the Sons of Broad Series by Tara Thomas. I received this book from Netgalley and after I started it, I knew I had to start from the beginning. I hunted down the first two and finished them before diving back into Broken Promise. I did not read any of the prequel novellas which may have been helpful for some more backstory. Each of the books in the series focuses on one of the Benedict brothers. In the last book we are introduced to Kipling. I had a feeling the older mature and seemingly playboy brother was more deep than he let's on.
The romance begins between him and Alyssa, the police officer from the previous books. The romance isn't a surprise, there's a lot of playful banter and sexual innuendos from Kipling in the other books but the feelings behind them aren't introduced until this final installment. A lot of questions are answered in this one. We found out the who and why of the Gentleman which fills in a lot of blanks. I wonder if there's a novella from the POV of the Benedict's mom? That would be an interesting read.

I would definitely read the series in order, otherwise the finale built up in the first two is spoiled in book three. I liked Alyssa. She was a strong heroine but not perfect, you saw the flaws too. I do wonder, whatever happened to her partner from the first book? She originally has a partner, then he just stops coming and no more mention of him. Generally if a department runs two deep, they don't just stop. I also felt her decision to leave the department felt pretty rash. I definitely saw her leaving, but there wasn't much in the way of her decision, just that she made it.
I will say each of these girls seem to come from a home with a rough father.

SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!

The loose ends from the other books all seem to tie up at the end. Some questions I had with the ending is Kipling's injury. We aren't ever really told what happens with him, he seems alright, like he's faking but then ends up in a coma and needing physical therapy? For what?! Also, Jade seems to have no problem being shot since it's no longer mentioned again. The part with Tilly's dad is a bit confusing. It's talked about that he's a hindrance to the Gentleman, but then that's it. So did he plant the evidence? It wasn't very clear. And the decision he made for the Benedict parents was surprising, considering his motive behind it all.

In the end it was a good book, a good series and I am definitely interested in reading more from this author, and perhaps I'll check out the novellas as well.

Thanks for the opportunity!

This is the third book in the series and I would suggest that you read the previous books in the series or else you might feel lost. There is a lot that happens in them and you might not understand the whole plot without having read them.

Kipling was not my favorite character in the previous books. He seemed hard and without sympathy a lot of the time. I really wanted to see if he evolved in this book. Then you have Alyssa. She was a kick butt, take-no-prisoners police officer – she even put Kipling and his family under the microscope a few times. She has her own dark past and doesn't trust easily.

These two characters have been quasi-dancing around each other with a ton of tension for a few books. When it looks like Kipling is going to need Alyssa's help, both have to learn that sometimes, trusting someone is the only way forward.

Alyssa has a past that has driven her to become a police officer. She also has a family life that is less than ideal. When those two reasons collide, sparks will not only fly, alliances will change, and her childhood will make so much more sense!

Kipling is struggling with the revelation from the previous book. When someone he cares about is in danger, he will enlist Alyssa to help him figure out why this has been happening and who is behind it.

There is a lot that happens in this story – it's fast paced, but the love story is more back burner, which I appreciated. With the mystery so complex, it is a great guessing game until the end.

I ended up really liking this story and even though Kipling still isn't my favorite character, he definitely grew on me. I hope there are more stories to come!

This is the final installment of the Sons of Broad series and in my opinion probably the best of the series. All of the books featured their own couple as the main characters and each couple faced danger in that book. While we knew that the danger was being inflicted by the "Gentleman," it isn't until this book that his identity and motive are revealed. Plus we finally see Alyssa and Kipling act on their mutual attraction that was evident in all of the other books. While I did like this book the most in the series, I think the books are best read as a series and in order to get the most out of the story line.
