A new to me author and a series I haven't read before.  Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole, book three in the Love over Duty series.  Likable characters, great character development, a romantic suspense storyline.  Looking forward to reading more by author and more in this series.

I absolutely could not put this book down! This was such a suspenseful enticing read. 

FBI agent Amy and ex-SEAL Cabe ended up put together on a undercover case after a spark ignited in a bar. After they realized that they would be working together, they decided to try to ignore the spark they felt between them. Of course, that proves to be quite difficult. It created some lovely sexual tension. 

The book was fast paced, suspenseful, full of angst, and had plenty of sexy scenes to go around. The writing was fluid and the dialogue was quippy and realistic. There were plenty of banter between Cabe and Amy that I loved. The chemistry the author created was quite wonderful. It made me want a Cabe in my life.

Scarlett Cole had me in the palm of her hand until I reached the 50% point, and then “fierce,” determined FBI Agent Amy Murray abandons her self-control, convictions, and previous indignation so she can have an ill-advised romp with colleague Cabe Moss, despite the fact that they had already accepted they would wait until after the assignment was over. You know, so they didn’t endanger the assignment. And then Scarlett Cole pretty much lost me.

If I had read what series Deep Cover was from, Love Over Duty, perhaps I could have anticipated this likelihood. Yep, because we all want to hear the motto: I’ll keep you safe unless I fall in lust then forgetaboutit.

Cole had written a very strong romantic suspense novel up to that point, from there it became sort of a typical romance. Cabe wouldn’t believe that Amy, a trained FBI agent, could handle herself. He needed to save her. She became victim-material then. She goes from being a character we admired to sulky and whiny.

As for the romance between Cabe and Amy, to me they didn’t have much chemistry. Cabe was still lost in thoughts of his fiancee who was killed in the Middle East. As a romance reader that’s a red flag right there. Wouldn’t it take something incredible, some divine interaction to make him move on from those memories so quickly? Because of that, the romance felt forced rather than organic, and the sex scenes seemed as if they were thrown in because they were suddenly needed, despite the fact that the novel would have been much better if they’d waited, built up some romantic tension, and then consummated. Anticipation is 25% of the fun (I’d say 50, but I’m not sure if that’s true, heh).

I must admit that I thought Scarlett Cole would join Laura Griffin on my list of favorite romantic suspense novelists, and maybe she still will. (I like to give an author the benefit of the doubt when a novel starts so well and read another of their books.) While Cole writes well and was informative providing interesting details, her characters lacked the backbone and professionalism, which I highly respect, of Griffin’s characters. Also, considering the suspense took a far backseat, think back of the bus backseat, Deep Cover falls more into the romance category for me.

The ex-Navy SEAL characters were pretty well-written. The camaraderie and dialogue were well-done, very realistic, and frequently humorous. I wish we had seen more of Amy’s father, the famous poker player (that’s a nice twist, no?) and her Uncle Clive, as they added a welcome touch of quirkiness.

Who will like this novel? If you are a firm resident of the Laura Griffin-style of romantic suspense camp, you may be disappointed by the wish-washiness of the characters and the lack of suspense of the suspense. However, if you enjoyed Katee Robert’s The Surviving Girls, this one could be a winner for you as it is less improbable and better written. Your enjoyment of this novel will most certainly depend on your expectations.

Who can resist a man who shows his tender heart? Definitely not me. Cabe, the main character in Deep Cover, is still grieving the death of his military fiance'. On the night of her birthday, his best friends meet up with him at the bar to help him during this vulnerable time. There, he meets Amy, but guilt over being attracted to her on this day, of all days, leads him to bail. Imagine his surprise when he realizes that Amy is going to be working with him undercover!

Despite a slow beginning, once the action begins, this story goes like Usain Bolt running a race.  Amy and Cabe have a speedy romance. The action is quick. Amy and Cabe have different goals to achieve in their undercover work (Think of this as an inter-agency team trying to cover all of the angles) but they don't cause conflict. Amy's goal of finding missing women who are taken for human trafficking causes some breathless moments towards the end of the book. I'm hoping, even though this is third book in a trilogy, that perhaps we are going to get more in this fantastic series.

Deep Cover was a really great read and by far my favourite of the series. As not only did I love the mix of suspense and romance. But I really liked the two main characters Amy and Cabe. As they were both extremely well developed and relatable. Especially Amy with all her struggles being a female FBI Agent and working in a predominantly male environment and having to deal with all that entails. Which in Amy's case, unfortunately meant sexual harassment. Then having to essentially deal with the same issues whilst undercover, and I really loved not only how Amy dealt with it. But Cabe too, who always saw Amy as an equal and completely respected the job she did. Even though there were moments where Cabe struggled with it, and that was great to read.

Not to mention,  I loved how the suspense slowly built as the story progressed and how well Amy and Cabe both worked together. And with the action towards the end, that had me on the edge of my seat. Plus, moments of fun as Six valiantly tries to organise his wedding to Louisa. This story had me hooked from the start and I would happily recommend it to others.

Captivating!  This author captured action, suspense and romance.  Well written with danger lurking around each corner.   I would love to see a sequel to this book.  Each ex-Seal had his own story and the outcome for each let me laugh and cry.  Up to the end I wondered if Cabe and his ex-Seal buddies would be able to get Amy and the others off the ship, or if the ship would blow up with all onboard.  This book was given to me for an honest review.

As much as I anticipate the beginning of Scarlett Cole’s series’, I dread their endings. But like all good things in life, I know, that they too must come to an end. “Deep Cover” is the third and last book of Cole’s “Love Over Duty” series. The three ex-SEALs who have turned their know-how and expertise into a security business and who have found love and passion in the process, it is a remarkable series full of excitement, intrigue and steamy passion. Cabe was the one who had lost the love of his life and who seemed like he would never again find another. Well, it seems that fate has given him a second chance in love and thrown Amy in his path. But will Cabe give love a second chance? Especially when he fears that loving a woman who is ready to throw herself in danger can only bring him pain and heartache?

Cabe Moss lost his fiancée when she was on duty in Afghanistan. He still lives with her memory and can’t even fathom ever falling in love again. And never with someone whose job can take her away from him at any moment. That is until he meets FBI agent Amy Murray. They have to work together to finally bring down the Russian crime ring which has been alluding Eagle Security and law enforcement since the beginning of the series. Amy Murray is on a mission to find a group of missing women. And even though they keep telling themselves that they have to wait for the mission to be over before crossing the line, it seems that that is easier said than done ;)

As exciting as the previous two books of the series, “Deep Cover” also manages to pull at our heartstrings with its poignant backstory of a love lost. We also have a strong heroine who fights back against sexual harassment in the workplace while having to literally feel guilty about being an attractive woman in a world which is predominantly male.

An exciting and fitting end to a beautiful series. Can’t wait to see what Scarlett Cole has in store for us next!!!

Sometimes you want the greatest stakes in your book to be whether or not the brother discovers his little sister and best friend are involved in a friends-with-benefits-turned-real-love situation…and sometimes you want those stakes to be whether a pair of special ops-FBI lovers can take down a crime lord who runs a money laundering/gambling/and trafficking operation. If you’re looking for the latter, this book is for you.

I’m a big fan of romantic suspense, but this is my first time encountering Scarlett Cole. DEEP COVER hit all of my requirements: a strong, capable hero and heroine with satisfying character development, a thrilling, smart plot, and a sexual attraction that can’t be denied or contained.

Cabe Moss is a rugged, sexy part owner of said special ops firm, and he’s two years out from the loss of his fiancé and presumed love of his life. Amy Murray is an FBI agent who’s recovering from losing her mother at a young age—she’s still missing—and being the victim of sexual harassment at her previous FBI post.

When they meet, the attraction is immediate, but Cabe is lost in mourning/remembering his past love, and Amy is wary of damaging her work reputation even further and ruining their present mission.

But like in all the best romance novels, the attraction can’t be suppressed forever…

DEEP COVER is a little more emotionally heavy than my usual romantic suspense fare—it had to be, given that one of the characters is recovering from losing the first woman he thought he’d spend his life with—but there’s a well-researched and taut plot, secondary characters who have captured my interest (*I’m going to go look for their books right now*), and a badass hero and heroine who are fiercely committed to the job and drawn to each other in a way that can’t be ignored.

This won’t be my last Scarlett Cole book!

Deep Cover is another hit in Scarlett Cole’s Love Over Duty Series!

Cabe Moss is an ex-Navy SEAL and one of three owners with his best friends of Eagle Securities. Two years ago, his fiancé was killed and he’s still dealing with her loss. While out with his friends on what would have been his fiancé’s birthday, he meets a woman at the bar. It’s the first time he’s really noticed another woman since his fiancé’s death, but he leaves before anything can happen.

Little did he know she’s an FBI agent and that they would end up having to work together on a case. His security firm is trying to take down a possible money laundering scheme and the FBI is working a case about missing women employees at the Lucky Seven Casino. The two cases may be connected so they are working together.

Amy goes undercover as a dealer at the casino to try and find out what happened with the missing women while Cabe and his team are doing surveillance/getting intel in the money laundering side of things.

As the two spend more time working together, it’s gets harder to keep things professional between them. The chemistry is hot between these two!

But the stakes are getting higher in the case and danger is just around the corner. Amy has found herself in a very dangerous situation and time is running out to save to her.

With hot romance, suspense and a story that kept me turning the pages, Deep Cover was a very entertaining read!

Brilliant story from Scarlett. Its's so lovely to see the love grows between 2 great persons. So touching and romantic amidst adventure.

Cabe had me falling for him right from the start. This is a great story that I devoured and reccomend

Great storytelling at its best! There is a cinematic quality to the writing that draws you into the story. I love when I have a clear vision of the characters, their surroundings and the action. Amy and Cabe are a killer couple who are both badass.  I loved their journey together as a couple and the  bitter sweet moments that the reader shares with Cabe as he lets his past go. I can't think of how the story could be improved.

This was a great addition to this series. I can't find any info about whether this series is definitely over. I'm assuming it is, as the ongoing suspense plot was finally completed in this book, but I really love some of the side characters, who work for the hero's security company. I hope we'll see them again one day!

Cabe Moss was a Navy SEAL, and now he runs a private security firm with his 2 best friends. They've been investigating a money laundering operation since book 1. The op included investigating many other crimes that were all connected, like kidnapping, attempted murder, etc. They are now on a joint task force with CIA and FBI to continue the investigation, which is now linked to some missing women, who were all employees at a local casino. Cabe has had a rough go of it. His fiancee was active duty Army, back when he was still in the Navy. 2 years ago she was killed in action, and he's never quite gotten over it. And he definitely hasn't been interested in ever having that kind of relationship again. But when he meets the FBI agent working undercover with him, will he change his mind?

Amy Murray comes from Las Vegas royalty. Her dad is a world-famous poker player, and her godfather is the pit boss at Caesar's Palace. She grew up in Vegas around casinos. Her mom went missing when Amy was just 10 years old, and she was never found. This drove Amy to become an FBI agent, and most of her focus has been on missing persons cases. This one is particularly rough. A number of women have gone missing over the past few years, and they all link back to a casino they worked for in California. She's already been working the missing persons case, when she is tasked to go undercover in the casino as a dealer, due to her extensive knowledge and skill. She had a bad workplace sexual harassment experience in her past, so she has no plans to ever get involved with anyone at work, so no one ever has reason to question her credibility. When Cabe enters her life, it shakes her up, as she can't seem to keep herself from falling for him.

Cabe and Amy's chemistry was evident from the start, and I loved how drawn they were to each other. They both had their own pasts and issues that had to be worked through before they could even consider how to be together. I really felt that these were all handled in a very realistic way. They had such an attraction, but neither of them were entirely sure what to do with it in their difficult situation. Cabe was still feeling some guilt over moving on. Amy was worried about getting involved with someone she was working with. I loved how honest and real they were with each other about their issues, and it made them even more comfortable and open with each other in the long run.

The suspense plot has been partially ongoing since book 1, and I really enjoyed this final part, and how it all came to an end. It was exciting all the way through, and having Amy in her undercover job made it even more so. I really liked how close both main characters were with their families as well. It's always nice to see how the character's family situation informs their life and decisions in various ways. Amy was a strong heroine, and I loved her attitude and commitment to her career. Cabe was an awesome hero, and he really came through for everyone in his life, in so many ways.

I loved this whole series, though book 1 was definitely my favorite. It was great romantic suspense series, with exciting scenarios, and fantastic characters you could love so easily. I highly recommend it, and this author in general!

Deep Cover is the first in the series for me and grated I would have benefited abit from reading the first two with having a better background on not only the Eagle team but the bad guys as well. However I feel it didn't hinder my ability to enjoy and follow along with the book and Enjoy Cabe and Amy together. 

Cabe and Amy are good together and work well together. I know the Mac and Six have their own books, but honestly with the glimpses of the other teammates, those too could have their own stories. I enjoyed the two working hard together to bring the bad guys down, and finding the women who have gone missing. It was a good book and I did enjoy it. Can't wait to pick up the other two and catch up on the story.

We've gotten to know Cabe, the hero, in the previous two books.  He is part of the Eagle Securities team along with Six and Mac, the heroes from book 1 & 2.  Amy, the heroine, is an FBI agent and new to the series.  We have continued side characters that have been in previous books.

The biggest thing we have learned about Cabe that affects this book is that he lost his fiance while she was on active duty two years prior. I'm a bit conflicted when a deceased significant other is involved.  On one hand, I don't want to see a main character pining for anyone other than their love interest in the book.  On the other hand, it also shows how the new love interest was able to help them move on when no one else could.  

I think the author did a good job of creating a balance with Cabe.  He was still mourning his deceased fiance but he also recognized that Amy was different and there was something real there.   I also like how the author had each book with their own storyline that ultimately tied all three of the books together.  Overall, this is a great romantic suspense series that I have enjoyed.

Scarlett Cole, Author of “Deep Cover” has written a steamy sexy action packed novel. This is  not the first book  in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone.  The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction and Romance. The timeline for this story takes place within a two-year period, and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story.

The author describes her characters as complex, complicated, and confused. Cabe Moss, is an ex Navy Seal and along with several other Alpha type friends often works along the FBI to help solve criminal activity. Cabe is grieving for the loss of his fiancée from two years prior.  Cabe and his team are working with the FBI in to entrap certain individual in a major money laundering scheme.   During  this assignment Cabe meets FBI agent Amy Murray, who is looking into kidnapping and trafficking.

There is a casino that is suspected of money laundering and human trafficking. Amy happens to be a wizard at all casino games, works under-cover there. Cabe and his team are also responsible for Amy’s safety. There seems to be a major attraction between Cabe and Amy .This is a dangerous mission in more ways than one. Will there be more under-cover action?

I received this ARC from NetGalley for my honest review. I recommend this novel to readers that enjoy intense Romantic stories with some danger.

This is the third book in the series and I wish I had known going in. During the first few chapters I felt lost.. So , read the first two books before beginning this one. It took me awhile to get into this book but once I did, I could not put it down. It was also the first book by Ms. Cole that I have read but will go back for more.
There was suspense, heat, and was a slow burn book. Cabe and Amy are perfect for each other, if Cabe can just let his dead fiance go. I kept wondering what would happen next, so it definitely kept me on my toes.
