Podcast interview with the author, Joel Comm, about this book and other interesting topics: https://closemindedpodcast.com/episodes/episode-9-joel-comm-on-the-fun-formula-crypto-generalism-and-fighting-woke-culture/ |
Yes, work should be fun! And life should be fun! A fun and inspiring read, this is also a practical book that encourages everyone to live life according to one’s own definition of success, and not comparing our life with other people’s highlight reel on social media. |
Thank you Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for an ARC of this book. This book was a great inspiration for me to help find more enjoyment in my working life. I particularly enjoyed the case stories throughout the book I would use this book to dip in and out of as a pick me up for inspiration in the future. |
I had so much fun reading THE FUN FORMULA and thinking about applying its helpful concepts to my writing life. New York Times bestselling author and social media entrepreneur Joel Comm shares the secret to his biz success, which is not to put one’s nose to the grindstone but to have fun while working and in life. Just Google Joel and his photos show a truly happy guy. He walks the talk! Comm recommends pursuing passionate interests, the things we are most curious about, and those activities that bring us the most pleasure. In doing so, we have the best chance to produce dramatic results, he says, because we are naturally engaged. He also shares lively examples from his life and that of others to inspire change in thought and routine to advance us toward lives we’ll love. Highly recommended! Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine. #TheFunFormula #NetGalley |
This is a fun and inspirational book. The example stories are good, and the message of experimentation is very relevant. Like the title suggests, it's a fun read. I mentioned it as one of my favorite books for the year for the FIRE community: https://costaricafire.com/finance/fire-resources-i-love/ |

I absolutely love business and self-help books. I requested The Fun Forumula because this book seemed right up my street.

Blurb

The demands of work and the breakneck pace of technological change wear heavily on all of us, whether we are employees at a large company, solo workers in the gig economy, or entrepreneurs launching a new venture. The “hustle-and-grind” lifestyle that we’ve been told is essential to success actually leads to physical ailments, emotional burnout, and a darkness in the soul. But Joel Comm has found a better way.

In The Fun Formula, Comm reveals that the best path to success—in work and in life—is to focus on our passions, curiosity, and the things that bring us great pleasure. Doing this leads not only to more dramatic results in whatever we do, but also to a more fulfilling life. Using entertaining stories and illuminating anecdotes from Comm’s own life and those of others, famous and not, The Fun Formula lays out a plan for making the subtle changes to our thinking and routines that will enable us to design the life we truly desire: one of significance and joy.

Review

Last year I decided to quit my job. I left a very well paid job as a marketing executive and decided to start up a digital marketing agency with some friends. My husband and I had decided that actually, we wanted to travel the world. He would become an international teacher, and if I wanted to join him, I needed to build a laptop lifestyle for myself.

The job I left was not necessarily a job I loved – so I was quite relieved when I handed in my notice. But what happened? My mood changes: I became happier, I had less stress and I actually enjoyed marketing!

And that is what this book is about: Finding your passion, finding what makes you happy and doing it. Did I pick up a lot from this book? No, as I feel that this book is mostly aimed at people that are still stuck in the corporate rat race. But I did enjoy reading it! There are loads of great and funny lessons the author learnt in the business himself.

I would most definitely recommend reading this book if you are ambitious, if you want to travel, if you want a better work-life balance or if you are incredibly passionate about something!
Review online on July 02 |

An easy read book that Is more biographical than practical. There are no instructions or formulas to follow just lots of case stories and examples to inspire you. I liked the Monkey Olympics snippet and the link to the YouTube video (I really want one of those monkeys !). A good rainy day book for when you need a bit of a boost or some gentle encouragement. |
