9 From the Nine Worlds is a collection of nine short stories told from the point of view of one of the supporting characters from the Magnus Chase series. As the title suggests, each story features one of the 9 worlds of Norse mythology.
I was a little disappointed that the Magnus Chase series only had three books, and so I was happy to see 9 from the Nine Worlds come out. As always, Riordan`s short stories are as enjoyable as his full-length books. I especially enjoyed getting to know secondary characters, like TJ and Halfborn, better.

The gang from Valhalla are back. Usually, I am meh about the Riordan extra books- they typically cater to the superfan of that particular series and that isn't precisely us with any of the series so far. We like Percy, of course, but the Magnus stories are our actual heritage, so they have come out on top of books we will re-read.

This story (or stories) are told from all the supporting characters point of view, Hearthstone in particular and Odin had stories that I would love to be book length. You'll meet Hearthstone, Blitzen, Samirah, Alex, Jack, T.J., Mallory, Halfborn, and more in this book. It's perfect for the reader that wasn't ready for the Magnus Chase series to end. In full disclosure, we pre-order all the Riordan books and now those of his imprint as well so my review comes from that perspective.

Please note that I received a free advance E ARC of this book from NetGalley without a review requirement or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that, I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

Expected publication: October 2, 2018 by Disney Hyperion

I received an ARC in exchange for a review - thanks Netgalley and Disney Hyperion!

Publisher's Summary:
The Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard trilogy may have concluded, but we haven't heard the last of our favorite peeps from the Nine Worlds. Join Hearthstone, Blitzen, Samirah, Alex, Jack, T.J., Mallory, Halfborn, and more on a hilarious and unforgettable journey through Rick Riordan's unique take on Norse mythology. While Magnus is off visiting his cousin, Annabeth, his friends find themselves in some sticky, hairy, and smelly situations as they try to outwit moronic giants, murderous creatures, and meddlesome gods. Can they stave off Ragnarok at least until Magnus gets back?

_________

Each short story centers upon a specific supporting character from the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. Norse mythology driven, these stories are exactly what readers have come to expect from Riordan--the perfect blend of humor with adventure and myth. There is a common thread throughout that connects the stories: Thor (in all his flatulent, inappropriately dressed glory!) Standouts for me were Alex and Jack but also Hearthstone.

A definite must read for any Riordan fan!

Final rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Of Rick's heroes series, I always thought the Magnus Chase collection was the weakest. Formulaic, preachy and kind of blah in action. His supplemental books are always sort of half-hearted attempts to prolong the series or the wait for the next book or an additional money maker. I've never really enjoyed these extra books but read them because I like to finish a collection.

So... I was really surprised that the stories in 9 From the Nine Worlds was really good. The stories were mostly fun and interesting. It kicked off great from Odin (and I wanted to learn more on where that story could go) and they all wove a cute running (pun intended!) gag throughout.

My tween read a collection of books from her favorite series this summer and deemed this the best of the bunch.

Great job, RR. Can we make sure we keep the quality up on future supplementals?

Rick Riordan never fails to disappoint. One of my favorite authors and another great book! I look forward to more from him. Thanks for the opportunity

Librarian: Obviously this one is getting ordered. (Actually its technically already been ordered. From literally the moment it was available.) Riordan continues to be a fan favorite and this latest short story collection should satisfy his fans.
Reader: This is obviously a short story collection, similar, but not identical to Demigod Diaries or Demigod Files. As such it doesn’t have quite the same heft as a full novel. Also, fans of the series should note that none of these stories are narrated by Magnus. In fact he’s not in them at all. Instead 9 supporting characters (and Thor) tell us stories of the events going on across the nine realms during the course of a day. All in all, it’s a lot of fun, and a nice little treat for fans of the series.

Love, love, love this book. I'm not going to lied, when Magnus Chase last book ended I was a little bit disappointed because it left somethings unfinished, specially with his friends stories. I love this book since it gave me a new insight into their minds. Every chapter in the book is dedicated to one of Magnus friends, and the thing that tied every story in the end is Thor! Who by the way continues to be CLUELESS! I want to keep reading more of this characters!

By now, we should all know what to expect from the "in between" books of Rick Riordan's series. 9 From the Nine Worlds is a new short story collection that takes place shortly after Ship of the Dead The collection is told in the point of view of nine characters and follows them as they adventure into each of the nine worlds with one very large (and smelly) connection. While Magnus doesn't make an opinion in this book, we do get to read more about all of our favorite side characters in the Magnus Chase books.

These stories are very enjoyable and light-hearted. I would not look for depth here though. The stories probably won't hold much impact for the rest of the series should it continue. I had fun with these. 3/5 stars.

I received a copy of this book from Disney-Hyperion via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the latest from Rick Riordan's Gods of Asgard series and consists of nine short stories. Each chapter, or story, is told from the point of view of Magnus’s friends and each travels to one of the Nine Worlds. We get to revisit Hearthstone, Alex Fiero, Halfborn, and Blitzen among others. Thor ties the chapters together as he jogs through the Nine Worlds. The book is short, making for a quick and enjoyable read. I would recommend this book for middle grades and fans of Magnus Chase.

After reading the final Magnus Chase book, I was really disappointed to be leaving the 9 worlds behind. I was excited to learn that Riordan wrote a series of short stories to continue the story of our characters as they continue to wait for Ragnarok. I liked how the 9 stories wove together and each featured the point of view from different characters in Magnus Chase series. Middle grade readers already familiar with the series will enjoy this companion text. Readers will enjoy Thor’s cluelessness as he finds himself as an unwitting part of their stories.

This book is a wonderful addition to Riordan's Magnus Chase series told from the perspectives of Magnus's friends (and Odin!). A quick, fun, fantastic read for Riordan fans. 5/5 stars.

I was ecstatic when I saw this book available for preview on Netgalley. I requested it immediately. I was not disappointed. It was just as funny and interesting as the whole Magnus Chase series. I want more!

This collection of nine interrelated short stories from world of Magnus Chase will likely appeal to young fans of the series. Characters that normally don't get to narrate get a chance to do, which is refreshing, but the ongoing jokes about tiny leather shorts and flatulence felt rather flat for this adult reader. Upper elementary and middle school students are probably the target audience, particularly those who are already familiar with the Magnus Chase series (this might not be the best introduction to the series for those who haven't yet read it).

I loved getting to see the 9 worlds through the supporting characters POVs, they each have such interesting personalities. The only downfall is it just wasn't long enough. I think it's believable that they end up in sticky situations because they will always be teenagers, lol.
The Nine Worlds is by far my favorite of all of Riordan's creations. I want more books!

Light-hearted read but not useful for those unfamiliar with the series already. The stories felt a bit disjointed, but for fans of Rick Riordan this is a must read nevertheless

Riordan gives us a set of tales set in the Magnus Chase universe with funny and interesting short stories. Minor and secondary characters are fleshed out and given more depth of character. For fans of Magnus Chase and popular material youth library collections.
