Wow did i love this, even with its continued references to the golden girls (no idea what it is). Lola and Luke's attraction is both odd and hilariously perfect. What a way to meet! Crashing someone's high school reunion. Lola is a great character, both shy and bold, secure and insecure whilst luke tries to untangle himself. A funny read, with lots of humour and romance. Loom out for Frankie, as secondary characters go she steals the light quite a bit with her comedic comments. We'll worth a read if you love romance. And comedy. |
I’m always fascinated by the story of how a couple meets - and no one has one quite like Lola and Luke. Lola is in the dumps after a breakup and her best friend convinces her to crash a school reunion. She meets Luke at the reunion when he realizes she is not the person whose name tag she is wearing. He lets her away with her secret as long as she will pretend to be his girlfriend and get his family off his back. Little did the two of them realize how much a few secrets can grow.... |
So far, every review I've written for this site has had an element of fake relationship in it. I swear I read other things. Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend is cute and light-hearted, and I genuinely liked the heroine. It seemed to hint at a romance for the hero's sister and his best friend, which I admit I was curious about. Lola McBride is 26 years old and freshly dumped by her boyfriend for a 22-year-old girl who is hotter than she is - his words. Brutal. Seems like a catch. Her roommate Frankie, a Golden Girls aficionado and serial dater, convinces Lola to crash a 10-year high school reunion in a sexier-than-usual outfit to find a man and bring him home for a good old-fashioned one-night-stand. Luke Erickson is 28 years old and freshly returned to his hometown after a stint in San Francisco and then in Manhattan. He catches Lola out on her lie - she was pretending to be someone he dated - and asks her to lie to his family and be his fake girlfriend for a reunion. I'm not mad at this setup, and I enjoyed the book while reading it. Carpenter's writing style is easy to read. There are just a few details that made it really difficult for me. Lola literally has no family left. Luke has a great family that keeps pressuring him to find a girlfriend that he figures it will be easier to lie at the reunion. The reunion, from what I can tell, lasts a few hours. Dude, you can't stand your family asking questions about your love life for a few hours? That is weak. Also, bringing someone who lost her parents at such a young age to lie to your family to get them off your back seems... callous. Which is actually the best word to describe our hero. Callous. Yes, his father left him and his mom and his triplet sisters (one year younger than he is) when he was 5 because he couldn't hack it. Yes, that will screw him up when it comes to relationships. And yes, Luke is the hottest guy Lola has ever seen. But I really didn't get any good qualities from him. He has a good job and owns a nice apartment. He loves his family, but also is willing to lie to his family to get out of annoying questions. He's attracted to Lola - which is a bonus for him, because she's great - but apparently every single woman he dated before her was a vapid airhead with nice boobs (they used the word "fake" like a pejorative, which rubs me the wrong way). There's a lot of "she's not like the other girls you date" which is always a bummer. And... that's it. I don't see a lot of wit coming from him like I did Lola. There are no fun activities he likes to do, whereas Lola is part of a weekly rogue bocce game. He surprises her at work after meeting her a few days earlier, which I personally thought was creepy. He is impressed she orders pizza instead of a salad which made me eye roll real hard. I wanted to like Luke - I always want to like the hero - but I just did not. Also, their first kiss was straight out of the Jon Heder/Will Ferrell "Blades of Glory" movie that nobody saw. Lola tells Luke the story of how her parents died, and he chooses that moment to kiss her. What? No! That is not romantic! DO NOT DO THAT. I will say that the sex scenes that came up later were solid and fairly sexy, which does bump the grade up a bit. And I'll keep an eye out for this author - the story was cute, even if some of the details and plot points had me groaning, and it was an easy read - but I hope the next hero doesn't turn me into an angry feminist grump. That's for my twitter feed, not my reading time :) Grade: B-/C+ |

Super-Cute. A fake relationship grows into the real thing but will Luke let his fear of emulating his father destroy his future happiness? Loved this story and the characters, both major and minor. Had some laugh out loud moments. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
What a fun read!! Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend is such a cute, and charming story! Lola McBride is a librarian whose a little more straight laced than her best friend and room mate, Frankie. After going through a particularly hard break-up, Frankie comes up with the idea of crashing a high school reunion. She's seen it on The Golden Girls-her fav, and it works in getting her friend out a slump-so why not them! Lola meets the hottest guy she's ever seen while she is there, and unfortunately the name she chose to impersonate, formerly dated said hot guy! The gig is up! Luke thinks it's funny to crash a reunion of a school you never even attended! He plans on having a little fun with Lola. He proposes that in exchange to keep her secret, she help him get his family off his back by attending his family reunion as his girlfriend. He has three sisters that are dying to get him hooked up, so they are a little skeptical that Luke conveniently shows up with a new girlfriend. But they all like her, and invite her to another family function. Luke and Lola feel they need to get to know each other better to pull of this pretend relationship. As they spend a lot of time together, the lines between pretend and real blur. Things just got a whole lot more complicated! This was a refreshing and enjoyable read! I liked Lola and Luke from the beginning and they really seemed to click! You could feel their chemistry-even if they tried so hard to deny it! Frankie was a treat! She was a real best friend to Lola and she was so lucky to have her in her life! I highly recommend you grab this book today! reviewed by Deb |

First off, this book was a bit shorter than I expected it to be. I loved Lola and Luke! The author's writing style wasn't something I'd usually enjoy, but I found myself looking past that because of the plot. From strangers to friends to lovers in denial, the pair goes through an emotional roller coaster right to the top. (I also love Lola's best friend, Frankie, who is wonderful at being supportive and silly). |
3.5☆ Cute This is my first book by Kerri Carpenter. What I liked: The writing style The characters Standalone HEA Epilogue I look forward to reading more from this author. |
I tried really hard to like this one, but it really didn’t live up to any of my expectations. The writing was on the juvenile side, and while I don’t expect Shakespeare, I do need to find myself sinking into a book... and this just didn’t capture me. The story is cute and sweet, but I struggled to care enough about the characters that just kind of fell.., flat. |
I seem to have a hit or miss with this author. I didn't love this book but it was a little entertaining. While I did laugh at some scenarious, I found this to be cliche and predictable. They were some occasions that you were like there is no way, really no way but as I said if you want a quick read with no thought process then give this book a chance. . |
I just love a good pretend relationship romance! This was a quick, sexy read. Luke and Lola meet when Lola is talked into crashing a high school reunion (not hers!) by her bff to get over a breakup. Luke is at his reunion when he sees a hot girl and approaches her and comes to realize she isn’t who her name tag says she is. Lola being a good girl says she will do anything he wants as long as he doesn’t turn her in. Not that he would and if she would have given it a thought she should know she wouldn’t get in that much trouble, lol. Luke asks Lola to be his fake girlfriend for an upcoming family reunion because his mom and sisters are always trying to set him up with women they know. Lola hits it off with his family and starts to feel really bad about deceiving them because she has no family of her own and really liked his family. After the reunion they will go their separate ways but off course she is invited to another family event and accepts. Luke and Lola spend time together during this so that they can get to know each other and this way when they are quizzed about the other they will have he answers. Well during this get to know you time they actually tell each other things that they hadn’t told others. Luke had told Lola that he had no intention of ever getting married because of what he went through with his dad and he knows that is what she wants for her future. Feelings start to happen for both of them and where Lola wants to tell Luke about hers he is denying he has any for her. A misunderstanding happens and the essentially break up and alike realizes what a dummy he was and needs to stage a big gestures if he has any hopes of getting Lola back. I really liked Lola and Luke from page one. I am hoping that each of Luke three sisters (triplets!) get their story. |

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. In this book we get to meet Lola McBride and Luke Erickson and I just loved this story. I loved getting to see where Lola and Luke end up and their journey to the end. This book was such an easy read and I highly recommend this title you will not be disappointed. |
A light fake romance between two likable people with a fun meet-cute but ultimately was weighed down by unoriginal daddy issues and insecurities. Although the Golden Girls mentions were adorable, they weren't enough to save the flat, predictable story. Having been dumped by her boyfriend, librarian Lola somehow finds herself crashing a 10-year high school reunion with her Golden Girls-obsessed roommate, Frankie. Luke catches Lola and gently blackmails her into pretending to be his girlfriend at his family reunion to throw off his pushy sisters. This was a fun start but once Luke and Lola started dancing around each other, Luke's extreme daddy issues and Lola's abandonment issues completely dragged the story down. Luke insists that he's completely against relationships because his father left his family when Luke was a young child. Having lost her parents, Lola is lonely for a family of her own and finds herself falling not just for Luke but his family, too. The problem is that for most of the book, Luke constantly declares that he will never be in a relationship but chases after Lola anyway, all while feeling sorry for himself. Meanwhile, his mom and sisters all seem to be pretty well-adjusted despite his dad's abandonment, making Luke seem an even bigger pouting man-child. 2.75 stars Note: I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC generously provided by NetGalley. |

This book was a fun read. I liked the characters and the story. Although I knew where the storyline would lead, it was a fun and funny trip to the end. It is a sweet story for when you need a HEA and you want to chuckle along the way. |
Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend, by Kerri Carpenter is a delightful contemporary romance. Lola McBride's best friend convinced her to crash a random high school reunion to have fun and forget about her recent breakup. While at the reunion, Lola met Luke Erickson, who discovers that she's crashed the party and convinces the sexy and shy librarian to attend an upcoming event as his girlfriend. Throughout their fake relationship, Lola and Luke start to act upon their mutual attraction. Soon, their pretend relationship becomes a real complication. Her Super-Secret Rebound Boyfriend is geared towards those who enjoy reading modern romances. Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own. |
Short but funny, sweet, hot amazing love story and don't forget the Golden Girls. I loved the story and how Lola and Luke met. Loved both of them, they are both great characters, developed and funny, interesting and both with mommy/daddy issues, that could mess their relationship. This type of story I loved to read, with heart and soul and all the funny, witty dialogues, the romantic end and hot action between the sheets. Recommended! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly. |

Enjoyed this book, quick read and was a sweet, lght hearted, romantic and steamy, feel good book. It will keep you entertained to the last page. |
This is my first book by Kerri Carpenter and she has now earned a place on my favorite author list. This book was absolutely delightful. From the first chapter where there was a quote from the "Golden Girls" I knew this was going to be a winner. This is the story of Lola and Luke. Lola recently went thru a bad breakup and her best friend Frankie convinces her to crash a high school reunion to a school that neither attended, at the reunion while pretending to be an ex-student of the school Lola meets Luke. Luke is the only male in a family of women who are constantly trying to fix him up. Lola and Frankie get caught in their lie at the reunion and to keep his silence Luke gets Lola to agree to pretend to be his girl friend for his family reunion. This story was really sweet (there were sexy times too) and progressed naturally. The story is told from both Luke and Lola's point of views but blended seamlessly. The "Golden Girls" is a running gag throughout the story and was funny to me being a fan of the show. I will be definitely be reading more of Kerri Carpenter's books. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a little humor with their romance. |
Her Super Secret Rebound Boyfriend is a cute story filled with laughs, crazy family, even crazier friends, and a surprise romance. This is the first book by Kerri Carpenter for me and I have to say it was sweet and enjoyable. Lola has just been dumped and we have all been there at some point. Her best friend and the help of the Golden Girls, they crash a high school reunion that is not theirs. Being outside her comfort zone, Lola runs into Luke. He realizes she's who she says she is and when the jig is up they exchange numbers in order for Lola to pose as his fake girlfriend to get out of trouble with his family. IT was cute. Luke is a relationship phobe but he has his reasons. What starts as a chance meeting, they slowly turn to more. however the lies and the secrets and of course the biggest thing.... Lukes aversion to relationships. |

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. Lola is just coming out of a bad break up that shattered her self confidence. Her best friend Frankie, who gets all her life wisdom from the Golden Girls, talks her into crashing a class reunion. Frankie assures her the class was big enough no one will even notice them. Lola crashes into Luke instead. He realizes after talking to her that she isn't who she claims. Lola is worried about getting in trouble so agrees to go to Luke's family reunion as his fake girlfriend in exchange for his silence. Having no family of her own Lola quickly falls in love with Luke's. One date and done is all it is supposed to be, but they have to spend the week before getting to know each other. This is a fun, easy read. You know from the beginning you will get your happily ever after and enjoy watching Luke and Lola figure it out. I liked Frankie and that she isn't afraid to push Lola a little bit to help her find happy. Luke's sister are great and would be fun to read their stories. If you are looking for a nice, light and happy read I recommend Her Super Secret Rebound Boyfriend. |
