First thoughts about this book, I finally get to chance to read my ship’s story!!!! I seriously ship Trystan and Delaney more than Ruckus and Delaney. And I am so happy that the two of them got a book!! My heart is happy.

Anyway, let’s start talking about the story now.

This book felt like the first book but with Trystan and Delaney being the main characters instead of Ruckus. It kind of felt like this was what would happen if it was Trystan who kidnapped Delaney first. Though I’m glad that Trystan and Delaney got their own story; that Trystan’s feelings wasn’t ignored in any way.

I liked the first book but I love the second book even more because it showed sides of both Trystan and Delaney that wasn’t there in the first book. Right from the start, I am Team Trystan. I don’t know why but I feel no feels towards Ruckus and Delaney. I feel like Ruckus is plain. And Trystan being scary is kind of new to me from those usual men in YA books.

Honestly speaking, this book was a bit of a struggle for me because it has a lot more politics than the first book. And if you know me, you know I stay away from books with lots of politics if I can help it. But that’s what this book is about. It’s about finally doing the plans that was presented on the first book. Though I didn’t struggle with the politics of this book, I wasn’t completely enjoying it either.

I enjoyed Trystan and Delaney’s banters though, a lot. It’s one of the highlights of the books. It’s also one of the parts that saved me from skimming the book and not internalizing the politics parts. (Dang. I really don’t like politics.)

There’s not much happened in this book though. No scheming, no betrayals, and no action except on the last part, which is to be expected, unlike the first book. I think that’s only the downside of this book. There was only one person who planned something behind their backs and if I’m being honest was to be expected too.

All throughout the book, I only enjoyed, like really love the part, the ending. Realistically, the near-ending wasn’t supposed to be enjoyed. But can you blame me when it was the only part of the book that is as close to intimacy as I could get between Trystan and Delaney? (Except for that one particular thing that happened during their Unveiling of gifts. *wink) Trystan’s last line was what got my hopes up! Delaney’s reaction to what happened to Trystan at the end is what gives this book an added whole dragon (star) rate from its original 3 dragons rate. 😀

I have a lot to look forward to on the third book of this trilogy! I wonder if Delaney would pull an America Singer. I don’t know if I’d love it if that would happen or not. But I seriously feel it. And deep inside I want Delaney to end up with Trystan. Mehehe!

To wrap this up, the book was great. I enjoyed it because it was a different angle than the first book. It made me want to want to read the third book as soon as possible. I totally recommend this, bessies! Perfect for readers who want alien themed, romance, politics type of book!

I gave this series a try, but after slogging through the first book and then not liking this one any more I finally decided to DNF and give up on the series. I've read much better YA sci-fi books, and don't feel that this series is worth considering. I'm so disappointed because I wanted to love it, but it's just not for me.

Picking up immediately where AMID STARS AND DARKNESS leaves off, BETWEEN FROST AND FURY throws the reader into the middle of a completely ridiculous scenario with little back story. This is not a book for a reader who has not read the first book in the trilogy - in fact, even having read the first book of the trilogy I was a bit lost for the first chapter or so.

And BETWEEN FROST AND FURY isn't exactly a model of amazing science fiction world building. There's a paragraph or so of Trystan explaining the geography of Xenith, some delightful descriptions of alien food and the occasional bit about the politics of the world but otherwise there isn't much explanation beyond what the author needs to make the story keep moving along.

My biggest problem with the book is that I kept feeling a parallel to Sarah J. Maas' A COURT OF MIST AND FURY. Delaney spends book one with one hero, and book two with a different hero, similar to Feyre in the first two books of ACOTAR series. Now, it's not a perfect comparison - I think Delaney and Trystan's relationship is far different than Feyre and Rhysand's - but it was hard not to see the similarities. And with that, came the frustration of the weird love triangle. Normally I hate love triangles, but this one isn't so straightforward, as Delaney doesn't really like Trystan. Or does she?

Regardless of my complaints, did I enjoy this book? Oh yes I definitely did. I picked it up and did not put it down until I had finished it at 1:00 in the morning. There were some moments where I certainly thought Delaney was annoying and hated Trystan, but damn, there were also moments where I was cheering Delaney on! It was frustrating to have the entire book without barely a single reminder of why Delaney loved Ruckus so much but seeing her kick some major alien ass at points was totally worth it. Plus, the side characters are great! Sanzie, Dom and the evil Rex add dimension to the story in such wonderful ways. And whoa, is the bad guy such a bad guy!

Basically, BETWEEN FROST AND FURY is summer fluff, science fiction without the science and an enjoyable diversion. I was enthralled by Delaney's story and while I am maybe not holding my breath until the next book is released, I will be picking it up when it comes out, because I definitely want to know how the whole thing ends.

I was given a copy of books 1 and 2 in exchange for my honest review.

Book 1: 4* Book 2: 4.5*

Reviews for books I enjoyed are always the hardest to write...and I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books. The world building was amazing and I freaking LOVED Delaney's character. She was snark personified. She could have just given up and let the aliens walk all over her, but she didn't. I'm picky about what YA books I will let my daughter (she's 12) read because she identifies so strongly with the female protagonist, and I would absolutely let her read both of these books. In fact, I would recommend these books to just about everyone I know.

I will give one warning: there is a love triangle. It gives me major Warner/Adam/Juliette vibes (from the Shatter Me trilogy, if you don't know who I'm talking about). At first I was 100% Team Ruckus but the more I read, I found myself starting to convert to Team Trystan. I'm still not sure who I love more, but I will admit there is a large part of me that just wants to hug Trystan.

I've found a new author to add to my list of "Read Everything This Author Has Ever Written." The month of December is usually my month of rereads, so these 2 books will definitely be on that list. And now I'm off to buy print copies of these books because I need these on my shelf!

There are so many things that I absolutely love about book number two of this trilogy! First off, we actually get a little bit of Trystan’s perspective in this book. It isn’t completely from his perspective because the book isn’t first person, but it does follow him as a character in a few chapters! I don’t recall ever doing that with Ruckus in book one. So that’s pretty cool. Secondly, the writing is far better in this book! I griped a bit about it being slightly juvenile in book 1. Well, Chani must have found a new editor or something because the difference is night and day! I loved it! And third, the thickening of the plot is so intense that I am so incredibly invested now, I am recommending this book to everyone now!!!

I was so looking forward to reading this after finishing the first book and I am so happy that it didn’t disappoint!

This book focusses a lot more on Trystan and Delaney and I liked that because I really liked their chemistry in the first book, their constant barbs back and forth made for interesting reading and it was nice to see how their relationship develops.

How even though Delaney is put in another impossible situation, this time by Trystan’s hand, they become allies and manage to work together to reach similar goals. Plus the evil side in me delighted in the fact that Delaney does start to feel a bit conflicted over what she feels for Trystan and Ruckus.

I loved learning about the Kint customs, it was nice to get more information about the world since it was different to what I got used to in book one, but at no point did it feel like too much was being dumped on me at once. It was refreshing to get to see the other side since book one focussed more on the Vakars, made it a bit more well rounded.

Again I won’t tell you too much about the story because it’s better just to read it but there was such a twist near the end that I did not see coming at all.

I loved this book it was a great continuation of the series and I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the last book, I just hope I don’t have to wait too long.

Between Frost and Fury is the second novel in The Xenith Trilogy by Chani Lynn Feener and is an exhilarating and enjoyable sci-fi tale that takes readers back into an intriguing and appealing intergalactic world full of colourful characters.

Delaney Grace was only back on Earth with her new boyfriend Ruckus for one month before she was kidnapped by aliens; again. Now she is being held prisoner by the devastatingly handsome and determined alien prince Trystan who wants to use Delaney to enter into a peace treaty with his people’s enemies…..through holy matrimony. Trystan is sure the best way to unite the Kint and Vakar people is through a marriage and seeing as Delaney was technically the person he was bound to when she was impersonating the Vakar heir, Trystan is determined to make Delaney follow through with her promise. Stuck in the middle of a political battle between two kingdoms, Delaney must navigate Trystan’s romantic attentions as well as find a way to get back home to earth before she is named queen of a planet she desperately wants to escape. Yet as it becomes clear that Trystan’s plan isn't the biggest danger out there, will Delaney's loyalties change or will she continue to only be a pawn in someone else's game?

Heading into Between Frost and Fury I was somewhat perplexed. I immensely enjoyed the first novel, Amid Stars and Darkness, and given it’s shocking cliff-hanger ending was eager to see what Chani Lyn Feener did next, but I was also worried. Not over the quality of writing or the excitement I was sure was to come with the storyline. I was worried about a potential love triangle. I’ve probably said this before, but one of my biggest pet peeves is the dreaded love triangle and I was afraid that this would become an issue within this story. Something that eventually came to pass….but boy if I don’t like the way in which Chani Lyn Feener writes this particular love triangle. If there’s one thing I hate more than love triangles it’s love triangles where I genuinely love both love interests. And this is what Feener has done with Between Frost and Fury!

I very much enjoyed the relationship between Delaney and Ruckus in the first novel, but oh how my heart bleeds for Trystan in this instalment. It’s very rare that I switch teams after making my choice, but in this instance I may have to make an exception as there’s just something so captivating about Trystan. The depth and nuances Chani Lyn Feener explores and introduces within him in Between Frost and Fury truly make me adore the guy even if I can see why he continues to frustrate and enrage Delaney. I do feel like he deserves happiness so I'll be keen to see if he's the one to get the girl.

Chani Lyn Feener has a likeable protagonist in Delaney who is sarcastic and fiery in all the right ways. She's sharp and quick on her feet and I've enjoyed following her throughout the trilogy so far although I do admit I very much appreciated the chapters and glimpses through Trystan's eyes in this instalment. This made it much easier to see where he was coming from and what he was feeling while still being able to stand with Delaney as she navigated the circumstances she found herself in.

Between Frost and Fury builds to another climactic ending which sees Delaney come to some unwanted truths about her feelings and leaves the characters in a situation where they'll need to all come together to defeat a massive threat. Chani Lyn Feener leaves me dying for the third and final instalment, once again eager to see what will happen next with this thrilling

Overall, this book honestly surprised me. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. I thought maybe it will suffer from middle book syndrome but it didn't. It rose to the plate and smashed it. The writing was brilliant and easy to get into. The plot was well thought out and never lost its tension. The characters continue to impress me with their complexities and incredible wit. This book is perfect for anyone who wants a little something different. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book to review! I loved it and I am kind of sad that the next book is the conclusion but I am also ready for it!

Delaney sure knows how to find trouble, through no fault of her own. When she spotted Trystan, the prince of the alien species she had pseudo been engaged to who she just left behind (for good she thought), Delaney knew she was his target. Not surprising, she wakes up on his spaceship on the way back to his planet. His reasoning for grabbing her is surprising though- Trystan wants her to fulfill the obligation he originally thought she was part of- to marry him and become the queen to settle the unrest among his-their people.

You know how some book series you don't realize you missed until you pick up the next installment and jump back in to the world? Yeah, well that was not the case with this series- I knew exactly how much I missed this story, the people, the conflict, the romance and the awesome alien world that Chani created. When I read book 1 Amid Stars and Darkness I had no idea I was entering into a trilogy, I had assumed it was a stand alone, but the surprise ending totally threw me- and since then I have been counting down the days to get my grabby hands on this book! Between Frost and Fury was no sequel full of boring filler, just noise to get through for the epic conclusion that a bunch of trilogies suffer from- nope, this was full of action, political intrigue, character development as well as a change in the relationship dynamics, all completely necessary and so interesting I had a hard time doing real world things that did not revolve around reading.

I know I am not suppose to say this, but I have always had a soft spot for the arrogant, domineering, at times surprisingly considerate Trystan. Don't get me wrong, I love Ruckus and he is a perfectly nice guy that Delaney could have a happily ever after with... But Trystan challenges her, pushes her, secretly wuvs her (even though it is such a secret he doesn't even know it), and I really like him. I know, but it had to be said. And yes, this could be called a love triangle (the dreaded love triangle at work!) but it was really well done and I loved both guys and the story was not an angst filled drama of Delaney wondering "who do I pick?" Sure romance is a part of the story, but not the main focus and it was so well balanced into the action and plot.

Chani, you are awesome and this review is basically a fangirl letter to how much I love this series and need the next asap. I have to know what will happen next...and I will read whatever you want to write (as long as your next is book 3 in this series and then whatever else you want- not to be pushy or anything.)

This is a solid second book in this trilogy that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It was just as fast paced as the first one with some interesting things happening on the romance front. I also reviewed the first book, Amid Stars and Darkness, which you can read here.

Poor Delaney, she just can’t seem to get rid of these pesky aliens. She continues to be manipulated by just about every alien she comes in contact with. She is strong though and does manage to give as much as she takes. She does start off hating Trystan, understandably because he kidnapped her and is forcing her to be his betrothed. He tells her that she has to do it to save earth, but he has other motives as well. While her love for Ruckus remains strong, she does start to develop feelings for Trystan, that I am not going to call love quite yet. It is hard not to feel something for someone that you spend a lot of time with, and Trystan can be quite charming when he wants to be. I’m not calling this a love triangle quite yet, although it is definitely on the verge. But it is a well done triangle.

Trystan is a very morally gray character, I think. Sometimes it is hard to tell with him. He appears to think and feel one way but then will do a 360 when he is talking to Delaney or his father. He does truly end up caring for Delaney though, which is a point in his favor I think. I didn’t like him much in the first book, but he grew on me through out this one and I have definitely developed a fondness for him. We got to see a lot more from his point of view this time around which was good. It helped to understand him more.

The plot is well done, and the court politics are also interesting without being boring. The way Trystan, his father and the other royalty plot around her is fun to watch. I’m really not sure how this is going to end for both their planet and ours. There isn’t much new that we learn about the planet, a little of their history and the culture that Trystan comes from. The food was definitely better this time around, there are a few dishes I would love to try.

A great second installment and another good summer read. If you enjoy alien romances this is a series you should consider reading.

After only a month on Earth enjoying and building a life with Ruckus, Delaney is once again kidnapped and finds herself back in the presence of Prince Trystan, who is determined to make her see reason - his reason - all the while in the middle of a brewing battle between two alien kingdoms with planet Earth (Delaney's home) as the prize.

The majority of the story is a lot of build up, maneuvering, and back story to really get you to the action that hits around 80% and doesn't stop til the very last page setting up for book 3. Ruckus scenes are very few and far between which allows Trystan/Delaney to take center stage here. The thing that stuck out to me the most was Trystan's solid character growth. By the end of the book, he didn't give me a case of the shifty-eyes. And dare I say, grew on me in a big way.

Olena is still present as ever (boo and hiss!) and once again trying to reek havoc in Delaney's life.

If you enjoyed the first book 'Amid Stars and Darkness' this second installment will fit easily on your bookshelf too. By the end - with all the action that suddenly hit - I was firmly on that trilogy train!

This book was out of this world amazing! Delaney finds herself back in space as an alien planet’s princess, only this time she isn’t pretending. After thinking she had left the alien world behind for good, everyone’s favorite bad-boy alien prince, Trystan, drags Delaney back. Tensions are running high between the alien planets of Vakar and Kint, and a very flimsy chance at peace depends on Delaney agreeing to bind herself to Trystan. I especially loved the way the second book in this series gave you a deeper look into the alien world through politics and customs. Also the chemistry between Trystan and Delaney is as intriguing as ever! I’m already dying to get my hands on the third book, as this was an excellent sequel that left me begging for more.

Okay, so what I LOVE about this book is that it literally jumps right back in where the previous book finished, there's no missing time in between, no catching up to do, you're just immediately immersed back into the action and carried through the story by the amazing pace.

The book actually starts with a brand new P.O.V from Ruckus, and I love that we get to hear from both him and (mostly) Trystan throughout this book.

If it wasn't already clear, am I totally in this for Trystan! 😍😍 I guess I have a thing for bad boys with hidden depths...

Delaney is fantastic. No matter what happens to her, she still manages to keep her composure and her sharp tongue.

"I'm not afraid of you," she told him, holding up a finger when he opened his mouth to argue. "I'm not. I'm afraid of the things you might do, yes. But of you personally? What's to be afraid of? Is it the scared little boy who'd rather steal someone else's toy than fix his own broken one?"

I also can't help but smile in every scene where she purposefully goes out of her way to annoy Trystan! It's too cute, and it's great to see the new depths to these characters.

I could not put this book down, and when I was forced to, I couldn't stop thinking about the characters. They made me smile, swoon and worry. My heart raced, and almost stopped altogether right at the end.

Brace yourselves for another amazing, cliffhanger-style ending! 😱😱😱

It's strange, because two things I'm generally not a huge fan of in books are cliffhangers and love triangles. This series has both and I LOVE them! I can't get enough of the tension, the drama, the conflict and ALL THE FEELS!!

This is one of my absolute favourite series' so far. In this book, we get to explore more of the author's world, I absolutely loved the new wintry location and the introduction of some fantastic new characters, and foods!

After the jaw-dropping ending, I can't wait for book 3 - I desperately need to find out how this ends, even if I don't want it to end at all!!
