Once again Woodhouse makes history come to life in The Patriot Bride. This is a welcome addition to a fantastic series!

I wasn't confident I'd love this book, but it grabbed me from the beginning (young Faith was adorkable!) and became even better as intrigue and actual historical figures were brought in. Woodhouse did a phenomenal job of creating endearing characters and making historical figures come to life in a relatable and delightful way.

A page-turning, delightful story that made the quest for independence come alive on the page.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

3 stars. There are literally a thousand books that will have the exact same story in the Christian fiction genre. I feel like this was very unoriginal and could’ve been much better written as far as plot and characters.

FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. These are my honest thoughts.

This story started out with a huge hurrah, and I was happily cruising along with Faith Lytton…

… until Anthony showed up. This character was nothing more than a spoiled-brat control freak who was obsessed with Faith and demanded over and over and over that she will marry him or else! What kind of grown man talks like he did? What kind of grown man threatens the lady he claims he wants to marry? What kind of grown man actually thinks this brutish behavior is winning her over? What kind of grown man thinks that her denial of his irrational assumptions about her is her problem rather than something wrong with him? What kind of grown man who acts like this has connections with any king? This character was completely unbelievable and irrational. I had zero respect for him and swiftly lost respect for the story because of him. Since he quickly switched from whatever his original goal was to being solely focused on owning Faith (by way of marriage, but it was obvious he wanted to own her instead of love her), I completely forgot what his original goal was. Did he even have one? I don’t recall and, quite frankly, don’t even care at this point. His POV was so difficult to read because he was irrational, conceited, rude, inconsiderate, and consistently threw hissy fits whenever he didn’t get his way.

This next point is a neutral thing that did not weigh in on my rating whatsoever, because it’s likely a personal preference thing. I struggled with the George Washington POV. It rubs me the wrong way when a POV puts thoughts into historical figures’ heads and words in their mouths that are not verifiable. I really struggle to enjoy fictional books that feature these sorts of POVs, which is why I don’t purposely read them if I know a historical-figure POV is featured. I personally don’t think putting thoughts in any real-life person’s head is something I want to tackle, whether in writing or reading, because there’s such a fine line to toe when doing so. I know lots of people who adore these POVs and feel like they open up the mind of these historical figures to new generations. I, personally, remain skeptical for now (but that is subject to change as my personal reading tastes change).

The romance between the leads, both of whom were spies, was sweet and entertaining and just what I was looking to read when I chose this book. I liked that Faith and Matthew felt a strong sense of duty to one’s country yet fell in love in the midst of a war. This was sweet romanticism that felt spot-on and very beautiful.

The opening of kids playing war was fun and a real treat to read. It was a creative and enthusiastic opening, and I thought it set the stage beautifully for a Revolutionary War story. It also brought back memories of playing war with my cousins and sister. When a book brings back cherished memories, you know the author has perfectly captured the right tone and delivery in those scenes.

Here are my favorite lines from this story:

“Hate could do horrible things to one’s mind. And Matthew was determined not to let it go there.”

“Frustrating is more the word I would use. Mainly because it is difficult to watch what they are planning and deciding with no regard for the common people.”

“People were tired of being taxed to death so that England could repay her debts.”

With a different and much more developed personality in the antagonist (along with a definable and remembered goal for him to chase in a rational way), I would have adored this story and given it four stars.

I enjoyed this story! It was fun to "meet" George Washington through the eyes of someone who grew up with him and yet not have him be the focal point of the story. I also enjoyed "meeting" Benjamin Franklin in much the same way. Faith and Matthew were compelling characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. I always enjoy a good spy story, and I admired their bravery. I appreciated Faith's spunk and fervor for life. I thought the author did an especially good job in this book with secondary characters. Faith's friends and servants became as important and loved to me as the main characters, and that is rare to find in a lighthearted historical romance like this one. This is a fun series, and I am looking forward to the next one!

This series has gotten better and better. I loved this installment. Faith has faith, and Matthew is a strong male lead. I liked them both, and it also has George Washington. That was a neat thing. Through the mess of war, we find women and a strong tale that made me feel stronger at the end, somehow.

I felt that The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse which is book 4 in a series called The Daughters of the Mayflower was an enthralling historical fiction read. I really enjoyed Faith and the spy work that she faced. Her interactions through the book with others were really fun to watch and Matthews’s involvement was exciting to see unfold. My favorite part of the book by far was the exciting moments of hearing characters mentioned such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Patrick Henry. She even included Patrick Henry’s famous quote of “Give me liberty or give me death!” This is another great read by this author.

The 4th book in the Mayflower series.A historical christian romance novel. Faith is a strong female character who has suffered lost but has managed to remain strong and take an active part in the Patriot cause and will do what is needed to help. Matthew Weber is working as a spy to help the Patriot cause. When his path crosses Faith he they are drawn to each other. Unfortunately Faith has a unwanted admirer who won't take no for an answer. A dangerous time to fall in love but would they sacrifice their relationship or find a way to make it work. Will they make it our alive and have a future together. They will have to faith and believe that it will all work out as god intended.

This is my favorite book in the series so far. Faith is a great female character that is strong and smart and can do it all. Refreshing at a time when this was not the norm. Full of adventure and romance. I recommend this story to those who are looking for some romance mixed with passages from the bible.

Faith Jackson grew up a ward of George Washington, and is faithful to the Patriot cause. A wealthy widow her situation allows her a certain freedom, and puts her in the perfect position to act as a spy for the Patriot cause.

Matthew Weber is a close friend with ties to both Benjamin Franklin and his Loyalist son, he finds himself privy to many secrets on both sides which makes him a perfect spy. Their work brings Faith and Matthew together, as they fight for their country's freedom.

Faith is a clever woman, who courageously steps forward to serve her country. Her connections and wealth, afford her the opportunities to make a different. She is true to her faith and very resourceful.

Matthew is daring, and honorable, he is dedicated to the cause, willing to fight for his country. He admired Faith for her courage and faith, he wants to do the right thing by her, even in the midst of a tumultuous time.

Slow to start it took awhile to really engage me, set in colonial times this book does take liberties with some historical facts in order to better facilitate the storyline. I didn't always enjoy reading Anthony Jamison's chapters, but I did see how it came to later enrich the story. Strong heroes fighting for their country, and strong faith.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Stories about our American revolution are fascinating to me. I feel we need a reminder sometimes of how our government was formed, to appreciate what it took to gain our independence and form this strong foundation. This story is set in those early days and starts out with Faith, a smart, spunky girl - skilled in strategy - and a friend of George Washington. She grows into a lovely young lady who gives her efforts to the winning of our independence. Her household staff and close friends as well. They are able to incorporate their bible studies and quilting/sewing to the revolution effort. Faith meets a fellow Patriot, also friends with George, and their relationship grows along with the work they do. Of course it's very well written as Kimberley Woodhouse does. An excellent addition to the Mayflower Brides collection!

"The Patriot Bride" by Kimberley Woodhouse is an enjoyable Christian fiction novel. The main character Faith Lytton Jackson is brave and spirited, so when the chance comes to abide the Patriot cause – she doesn’t hesitate. She decides to become a spy and a messenger for the Patriots. She risks everything in favour of helping the Patriots and during her mission she meets a handsome and lonely spy Matthew Weber. Matthew is in a messy situation, because he is spying for the Patriots, while pretending to be a Loyalists and pretending to be spying for the Loyalists, which makes it complicated. As time passes and their secret meetings continue Faith and Matthew fall in love with each other. They must overcome dangers and difficulties, but of course readers can be sure that their love will triumph :)

I have mixed feelings about this book. There was a little too much telling and no showing for me. The spying activities as they were described were a bit amateurish. Also the spies spent much more time staring into each other eyes than actually spying. It was a book about war, but there wasn’t much war or fighting in the book (I understand that some readers may prefer it this way, but it isn’t very realistic). I liked how the historical events were described, but as I have mentioned a lot was described and not much action happened. I prefer when the characters participate in the historical events and experience them first hand not only mention them in passing or hear about them from others. I am curious about the next book in the series.

I received "The Patriot Bride" from the publisher via NetGalley. I would like to thank the author and the publisher for providing me with the advance reader copy of the book.

Kimberly Woodhouse is back for round 2 and she’s on fire again! This story focuses on some patriotic notions and pits one’s beliefs and the way one feels against each other. Faith has some difficult choices to consider, but she could end up with the man she never knew she needed if she plays her cards right.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is book 4 in the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. This book is set in Philadelphia of 1774. The two main characters are acquaintances of famous people like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. That part was really interesting and I think it definitely added to the story. This is a love story of two people trapped in the revolution and trying their best to help their fledgling country emerge. I just loved this book and I think you will too. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber meet while both work as spies for the Patriot cause. They develop feelings for each other, but, due to their situation, it is not easy for them to get their Happily Ever After. There's the risk of being discovered as spies, there is a bunch of wealthy and influential suitors trying to win Faith's hand. There is the invasion of the British in Boston.

I quite enjoyed this novel, it was ell-researched and well-written.

For some reason, this one didn't feel authentic to me. Maybe it was the more modern language, I don't know. And I also didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters.
If you can set those two things aside, it's a great study of history and it did a good job of bringing historical leaders to life.
As always, my opinions are my own.

While I like most of what I've read by Kimberley Woodhouse, this one didn't impress me that much. I am a stickler for history and when an author takes liberties with real history it is off-putting to me. The characters seemed a bit too modern for me to have actually taken place back in 1776.

3.5 stars- “The Patriot Bride” is the next installment in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. It tells the story of feisty, independent Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber, a Patriot spy posing as a Loyalist during the start of the Revolutionary War.
I enjoyed this story. It is evident in both reading the story itself and the extras by the author that the author researched the time period extensively. I definitely appreciate that when I read a story, knowing that the history I am reading about is factual & well researched. I liked Faith’s independent spirit and that she wasn’t easily pushed around like so many female characters in stories. Matthew was a very likable character as well. He had a very dangerous job to undertake as a Patriot spy and it was fascinating to read about the clear disorganization of the Colonial troops at the start of the war. I am always amazed how we managed to defeat the British Army.
I liked how the author made George Washington and Ben Franklin major characters in the story. It was intriguing to imagine their personalities and how they might have interacted with friends and family during that time. I think the author did a great job of showcasing their distinct personalities, even if they seemed somewhat too “perfect” at times.
I thought the best written character was actually the antagonist, Anthony Jameson. He was deplorable to be sure, but the thoughts and reasonings that went through that man’s head were so ridiculous they were hilarious & disturbing at the same time. I wish the author had written one more scene with him at the end so we could get his final thoughts.
I am enjoying this series and the progression in time for both the Lytton family and America. I look forward to reading the next book. I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I was hesitant to start this book because I'm not usually a huge reader of revolutionary war-era books. However, I was pleasantly surprised by The Patriot Bride. It was neither cookie-cutter nor all focused on how great our country is (though I appreciate the message, I feel it gets a little over-pounded into one's head, and I like seeing something fresh and new).

The characters were interesting. I was a bit annoyed with the heroine at times, but that's probably my personality. I liked the hero a lot, though there were a couple times when he was a bit overbearing - but perhaps that's just being a guy? I don't know. ;)

I really was excited to see a couple twists which I didn't foretell! It's pretty easy to predict most plots in this genre, but this was an exception to the rule! Exciting!

So far I've enjoyed reading this series. Can't wait to keep up with it!
