Snark, suspense, and plenty of local color flavor Lisa Scottoline's crime novels. While this is not my preferred genre, I'm a fan of this author's newspaper columns and I enjoy her books because she's heavy on the Philly connection. In this sixth book in the series (you don't have to have read them all before reading this), a former neighbor's vendetta threatens to take out the no-longer-all-female law firm, an associate is mysteriously murdered, and Rosato & DiNunzio just aren't sure who can be trusted. Premature labor complicates matters further. Not to be missed: the Rosary Society invading the mobster's mom's home. |
Great legal thriller! Lisa Scottoline does it again. The story was very well written with great characters and suspenseful storyline. Feared dealt with the complexities and depths of great relationships. From best friends, co-workers, families, enemies. It covered them all very well. This book kept me guessing and trying to figure out who (if anyone) was lying. Great mystery. |
Trademark Lisa Scottoline...intense legal drama with her wit thrown in. I haven’t visited Bennie, Mary and the gang for a while. I prefer her standalone books. I picked up where I left off reasonably easy though with only a question or 2 on what happened previously but will go back and read previous books. No one does ethnic family like Lisa. Growing up in a ethnic household (Polish..same issues, different accent) with Italian next door neighbors (my second family), she nails the family drama part. Her research and knowledge show thru with tge different issues...law suit, murder and Philadelphia area. That’s to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for this ARC. #Feared #NetGalley |
Lisa Scottine is one of my favorite .mystery writers, and her latest Rosato book does not disappoint! Mary, Benny and their firm are being sued for reverse sexual discrimination by their aptly named nemesis, Nick Machievelli. The suit weighs heavy on all of them, especially the pregnant Mary. The novel moves swiftly and inexorably to it's conclusion, and the firm prevails. |

LOVED this book. Entertaining from the first page, characters were relatable and the storyline was engrossing. Loved how the plot moved and changed and twisted throughout the book and drew me in from page 1. Finished this in 1 day...it's that good. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this great book! |
The plot kicks off with a questionable "reverse discrimination" law suit filed against the mostly female law firm. For a while, I thought the book was solely going to be about that case, but there were a couple of plot twists that introduced a murder and more intrigue, possibly tying in with a large anti-trust case the firm is litigating. The plot isn't bad, although the anti-trust case was very confusing in spite of two scenes that explicitly detailed the facts of the case, which was distracting. For me, I can't rate this book too high because of the over-the-top cliched portrayal of too many of the characters. Rosato's the super-tough woman who can barely shed a tear at a funeral, Judy's turning the heads of every "corporate" lawyer around just because she has pink hair, and Mary and her family pull out so many Italian ethnic stereotypes that it's off-putting. And the opposing lawyer in the case, a guy from the neighborhood, is named Machiavelli, leaving no doubt how evil he is. I also didn't appreciate that the solve of the murder is truly out of the blue after the reader is thrown a number of red herrings. I don't mind being fooled, but there wasn't a single clue along the way that pointed to that ending. I know this series has a lot of fans, and I like a lot of the author's other work, but I'm lukewarm on this one. |

It was so good to read about the Rosato & DiNunzio Law Firm again. It was like seeing old friends again. This edition in the series kept us on a roller coaster. The story starts out innocent enough with a baby shower for Mary. But it moves into high gear from there. Their old nemesis, Nick Machiavelli, has just served them with a reverse discrimination lawsuit. Now the one thing that makes them special, being an all woman law firm, could be the thing that puts them out of business. If only that were their only worry. They are knee deep in an antitrust lawsuit. There's murder, secrets, a baby, and of course Mary's parents, the Tonys and the rest of the south Philly neighborhood in this book. You have to read it for yourself because you won't believe the ending! |
Excellent book in a series of great reads. The characters and their struggles are so honest and heartrending, I had to remind myself that this was fiction. Unlike hour long TV dramas about law offices, this story rings true with all the nitty gritty and stress of a real law office. Whether you know all of the characters as if they are old friends, or are just starting a journey with this law firm, this is a riveting and worthwhile read. One of the author’s best. I almost wish I could forget all the earlier books so I could discover them again. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book. Loved it! |
This latest book by Ms Scottoline is awesome! It’s always like visiting family when you read about Mary DiNunzio. She and Anthony are expecting a baby! This makes for a real interesting read. Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this early release book free of charge. |

Mary Di Nunzio, is the most unlikely heroine. A neurotic lawyer with a family, husband, and a slew of neighbors all of whom called Tony. Mary, seven months pregnant is involved in !litigation and murder.. Lisa Scotteline has written a well constructed mystery which holds the reader's attention to the end. It keeps you guessing on who the killer is. Look forward to the next book in the series. |
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC copy of Feared by Lisa Scottoline. This book is so good, you become part of the many different kinds of family that the story revolves around. The Rosato & Associates series is both heartwarming and strong character driven with an intense plot. The mix of humor and family and the hard work of smart characters is perfect. Lisa Scottoline gets me every time with her endings. This book hooked me from the beginning and never let go. I’m pretty sure I’m an honorary member of the DiNunzio family at this point. Im ready for more. |
This author is one of my favorites. However, I didnt expect the book to be so great from start to finish!! I had to force myself to put the book down. It was excellent. The characters grow with you overtime and that's one of the signs of a great book. I encourage EVERYONE to read this book!! And thank you netgalley for allowing me early opportunity to read this book!! |

Feared by Lisa Scottoline was a book in the Rosato & DiNunzio series of mysteries. The book starts with the ladies of the law firm being sued for reverse discrimination for their hiring process. As the story unfolds, a murder takes place which leads to the proverbial "Who Dunnit?" Although there were some nice twists and turns, I did find myself getting bored at times. At the end of the novel, I didn't really feel that the final culprit was foreshadowed. It almost felt as if the author changed her mind at the end of the story to add an additional layer of surprise. I enjoy a mystery more when I look back and can see crumbs leading to the solution even if I didn't pick up on all of them. Hence, the ending wasn't overly satisfying. All in all, a good read but could have been better. |

The latest installment of the wonderful Rosato & DiNunzio series finds the women with another existential threat to the firm. |
#NetGalley #feared Available August 14, 2018 This is the sixth book in the Rosato & DiNuzio series. The nearly all lady law firm is caught off guard when they discover that they are being sued for reverse discrimination by three men. To make matters worse they find that John Foxman, one of their employees is planning to resign due to feeling uncomfortable and not always being treated fairly. The lawyer representing the reverse discrimination case is Nick Machiavelli, a man who earlier lost a case to Mary and is more than happy to take her firm on again. However, the legal suit takes a turn when John Foxman, the man working for Mary's firm ends up dead. This, of course, makes her firm look more guilty than ever since Machiavelli was hoping John would testify against Mary's firm. The ladies try to stay ahead of Nick Machiavelli as they hurriedly attempt to solve who murdered their employee and friend. They also need to find out why the reverse discrimination was filed by applicants who had applied for jobs at their firm. What Concerned Me: I had a very hard time becoming interested in this story until approximately a quarter of the way in. If this hadn't been a book that I felt obligated to read because NetGalley was kind enough to give me that opportunity, I'm sure I would have stopped with the first chapter. I felt it was mostly dialogue and not very well written at that. For several chapters nothing made me want to continue turning pages. I also felt Nick's reactions weren't always true to character. What I Liked Most: I really liked the characters comprising the Italian family. As an avid mystery/thriller reader, I felt this didn't really fit the "thriller" billing that it has been labeled with. That said, this is a very prominent author with a large following. I think this probably is a case of different books for different folks. Admittedly, it wasn't my type of mystery/thriller. Thanks, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, for the opportunity to read this ARC. |
This book is in a series but can be read Alone. I haven’t read this series except for the first two. A lawyer and her firm are sued for discrimination about not hiring male employees. I liked this book very good with twists and turns, |
The novel, Feared by Lisa Scottoline, is an excellent thriller involving the Rosato and DiNunzio legal firm. Mary DiNunzio and Bernie Rosato are begin sued for reverse sex discrimination. It involves three male lawyers who were interviewed by the Rosato DiNunzio law firm. All three were not hired. As the novel progresses it is clear that Mary's legal nemesis, Nick Machiavelli, is behind the sexual discrimination law suit. There are elements of surprise, humanity, deceit, loyalty and murder in this novel. I enjoyed see the characters in the Rosato and DiNunzio who have been in other novels by Ms. Scottoline. This is a read that will be thought about long after the last page. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this novel in return for a fair and honest review of this novel. |

Much better than the last Rosato and DiNunzio. The story was interesting- greed gone so wrong it led to murder. And the peripheral characters were very entertaining, the neighborhood Italian ladies trying to help everybody out. |

This is book 6 in the Rosato & DiNunzio series. I believe I have read all of them and always look forward to the next one. Lisa Scottoline is one of my favorite authors, reading both her Rosato novels and her other suspenseful novel.s. Her books deal with social justice and the legal system. Feared continues the legal team of Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier and the rest of the associates in their office. This time they are being sued for reverse sex discrimination as they consider themselves an all women law firm. However, they do have one male associate. The story is centered around this one male associate and what happens to him. ( I don't want to give anything away so no spoilers here.) Nick Machiavelli returns in this book and continues the tense relationship between Mary and him. The south Philly characters are all here; Mary's parents, the Tonys and Mary's husband, Anthony. Lisa Scotolino brings all the characters to light. You feel like you know them all and with each book they become part of your family, too. I read this book in 2 days; I couldn't put it down. Had to know what happens and I didn't figure out the guilty party until it was revealed! If you haven't read any of the previous books in the series it won't be a problem to start with this one; but I will assure you that after reading this book you will want to go back and read the others in this series. A delightful, suspenseful and intriguing read! |

I love the Rosato and DiNunio series! Each book has been entertaining, the characters have been endearing, it's been wonderful to see the progression of their lives....and Feared is no exception. In this sixth book, Mary, Bennie, Judy and crew continue their adventures in the legal work of Philadelphia, when they're faced with the murder of one of their own. The story was creative and while I wasn't initially interested in the subject of antitrust law, I did gain an understanding and appreciation. As usual, there are twists and turns, many of which were unexpected and it was an entertaining book. Ms. Scottoline is such a prolific writer (I don't know how she does it), and I'm looking forward to #7! Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read Feared. |
