This book is very addictive and fast read. Chloe is a vampire and she spent last century working and living with the worst of them. Now she is in supernatural prison. But instead of death she gets saved from the prison by her new boss. Ethan is works very much by the rules and tries to keep her in line. But when they discover dangerous plot they both put their life on the line in order to do the right thing.

Whilst the plot line is very interesting, the pacing is a bit off. There are parts where with non stop action and parts where is all kind of drags.

Great start for this series. Smart and full of attitude, my favorite kind of heroin. Can't wait for the next one.

From the beginning I love Chloë! She is spunky, sarcastic & dangerous! She is also all about the ends justifies the means and asking for forgiveness instead of permission. My kind of girl!

Ethan is stuff, bossy and totally by the books. She is her boss and despite being super hot she is off-limits and obviously not interested, right?

See what evil comes about and where things go with this well written story!

Can these polar opposites come together?

Chloe thought of how she totally messed up by listening to Eddie and he had darted her with a tranquilizer. Eddie was a vampire. Chloe was a vampire hybrid- a dhampir which meant she was a rare creature with vampire strengths but none of their weaknesses such as a sensitivity to silver and sunlight But it also makes her a target for naughty little vamps who needed to circumvent some natural defenses. Dhampirs are considered very dangerous as they were typically a part of a witches bloodline. That gave them an extra bonus gift like necromancy or telekinesis. They were very rare to be conceived, even rarer to survive birth. Chloe now worked for the Bureau after being caught for what she had done in her past as she had a bad past and had always felt like a freak. She had been locked up on Level 6 and was suppose to be given eternal death but her bss Ethan asked for her release on a work release program with a lot of rules with her special traits which she had been on the past three months. Ethan had also seen Chloe’s humanity. Ethan knew all too well about the feeling of isolation, of being different. Getting through to her to trust him was growing in priority. Chloe had kicked Eddie out of her life about fifty years ago, she had belonged to his and his brothers gang if rogue vampires called the Boyette Brothers. Maybe if she had left Eddie sooner she wouldn’t have been reaping the stigmy of their association even now. Seeing Eddie only reminded of the kind of garbage she had been through in the past and how it always seemed to find her. Eddie hadn’t been on any one’s radar in a long time and no one seemed to care about him. Eddie had used E-19 to drug hloe then he had her dig for a box of silver but she refused to help him open it and was going to kill her but Ethan came and killed Eddie and saved Chloe. E than knew the box was from the fae and old he contacted a coworker who confirmed it was a box of Woe and Chloe said she would go to talk to Alistair/Al and see why they wanted the box her system but at daylight Chloe went and was captured by Al after she went to confront him Ethan again came and got her where she had been hanging in a dark room. When Chloe came to from a bad dream her head was pounding and Ethan came in. Chloe felt bad she hadn’t listened to Ethan as he didn’t ask much and he had to answer to the Bureau for her actions. She doesn’t know deep down Ethan is very attracted to her. Ethan, though insanely prognostic and her boss was as close a friend as Chloe had. Chloe knew Ethan met what he said, he wasn’t using her. He wanted to protect her from herself. Everything Ethan had done, despite her wayward behaviour, had been to give her a second chance at redeeming herself. He seemed to be the only being who wasn’t trying to get something out of her. Chloe knew the deal Alstaire/Al had put before her and Chloe would rather die than betray the Bureau and the man who had given her a second chance. Chloe also decided she would never let the Boyette's use her again. It felt bizarre yet comforting to have Chloe in his home, curled up on his sofa Ethan wasn’t used to company but she seemed to fit in. Ethan was three thousand years old and an Ancient but other Ancients didn’t behave like Ethan. Chloe was very attracted to Ethan. Then Ethan decides to come up with a plan of taking down the Boyette's keeping the box locked safely away but the mission goes sideways. And they went on the run together. While on the run Ethan is finding it harder and harder to fight his attraction to Chloe.
I enjoyed this book. I loved Chloe and Ethan together. I really loved how Ethan had seen the humanity in Chloe and felt she was worth getting a second chance. I really liked how Ethan and Chloe interacted. I also really liked how Ethan was always rescuing Chloe and finally when she came clear about the deal with Al he proceeded t make a plan make everything come out right and keeping it from the Bureau. I liked the pace and plot a lot. I also chuckled at times while reading this. I liked that the author showed us about Chloe’s past and choices she had made. I didn’t want to put this down as I wanted to see what was going to happen next. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Tall Dark & Deadly is my first time reading a book by Kharma Kelley. I enjoy a good paranormal read and this book was no exception.
It was fast paced with enough action to please anyone who likes actions. Chloe Hunter is not your everyday heroine she does not follow orders is always getting into one jam after another. Being a cross between a vampire and a human give her a bit of an edge when dealing with the bad guys. Having many years of being a bad guy herself she is now working with the Bureau, that comes with conditions and a smoking hot boss. Chloe keeps breaking the rules that allowed her to be out of incarceration. Ethan Raines, her boss keeps getting her out of self-inflicted jams.
This is a wonderful read, it ticks all the boxes for action, suspense, and romance. If you are a fan of Vampires, Fae, Shifters, and the occasional demon or dragon this is a must-read.

This is my first book by this author but I will be sure to look for more. I especially enjoyed the plotting and the character interactions. Chloe was a breath of fresh air- funny, rebellious and sarcastic-and Ethan was more complex than first appeared. I enjoyed reading their evolving relationship. A thoroughly enjoyable book.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

a well-rounded vampire romance with a kick. The characters were quite fascinating and the romance was hot. Nice job overall.

Paranormal romance is one of my favorite categories in the whole genre. There are so, so many great reads there—books that I’ve read and reread so many times it borders on obsessive. But sadly, it’s also the category that I find it most difficult to find new reads in. For every great PNR read, there are 5 craptastic ones. I open each new-to-me series with equal parts excitement and dread. Will THIS be my next binge read? Will THIS be the next series that I pimp to my followers until they get sick of hearing me talk about it? But it’s with a heavy heart that I tell you that Tall, Dark & Deadly didn’t make it to my keeper shelf. I had LOTS of problems with this one.
First of all, I need to admit that I only made it to about 10% of the book before I quit reading. Some of you might feel like that makes me unqualified to review, and that’s fair. But since there were enough things that irked me in the first 10% of the story that I was able to write LOTS of words about it, I’m gonna go ahead and rant and review. (Plus it’s my blog and no one is the boss me, so...yeah. There’s that.)

Let the ranting begin…

Head hopping:
Head hopping, for those of you who don’t know, is when the author hops from one character’s point of view to another within the space of a paragraph or page. Now, that’s not to be confused with a dual point of view story. Most authors who tell dual point of view stories switch points of view every chapter—and a bunch of them clearly call out which point of view each chapter is told from in the chapter headings. But head hopping is much less common, and WAY more headache inducing. Only super talented authors can pull it off successfully. (Nora Roberts can do it, for example) And in the case of THIS book, I’m not entirely sure the head hopping was an intentional stylistic choice. I think it might have been an error, which is a totally rookie writing mistake that an editor should have caught before publication. There shouldn’t be 2 different points of view represented in a single paragraph ever, and I noticed it happening several times within the first 10% of this story.

Speaking of editing:
And while I’m on the topic of editing, this one has LOTS of grammar and spelling errors. There are parts where I’m pretty sure the French text used in dialogue is wrong, too. It should be said, also, that I’m not a grammar Nazi. I only point out spelling and grammar errors when they’re egregious, so for ME to notice that the editing in this one was lacking...well, imagine what’d happen to a grammar nerd who gave this one a read. (*head exploding*)

Damsel in distress:
Even in the first 10% of the story, Chloe needed Ethan to rescue her, only she never admitted it. She insisted (stubbornly) that she had everything under control, even though she CLEARLY didn’t. I have no problem with a heroine who needs help from time to time, but a good heroine admits when she needs help and THANKS the person who helps her. A craptastic heroine pouts when she’s rescued and snaps at her rescuer for daring to interrupt a situation that she wanted to handle on her own. (*cough*Chloe*cough*)

Odds and ends:

1. There are multiple Buffy and other pop culture mentions, but then a made-up show, The Vampire Journals, is discussed. Why mention Buffy and Rambo and a bunch of other real pop culture icons, and dance around The Vampire Diaries?

2. Chloe “grimaced” several times in the first 6% of the story. Can we get some different facial expressions?

3. “Ethan looked less than pleased at the phone.” Is Ethan upset with the phone’s behavior? Because that’s how the sentence reads. I’m guessing the author meant he was less than pleased by something that was said on the other end of the phone, but that’s not how it read. That just seems like sloppy writing to me, and if I’m seeing sloppy writing at 6% of the story, I don’t even want to think about what I’m going to find in the middle of the book.

4. “There wasn’t a lot out there about the legendary Ethan Raines.” If he’s a legend, doesn’t that mean there would be lots of stories and info out there about him? Again...sloppy.
Chloe is whiny. She’s a wannabe badass, not a real badass. Kate Daniels is a REAL badass. You never hear HER whining about anything.

So, long-story-short, I couldn’t bring myself to finish this one. There was just no way I could overlook the problems I found so early on in the story. If I’d read the whole thing, I imagine the resulting review would’ve been 10 pages long and REALLY grumpy sounding. I didn’t want to subject y’all to that. You’re welcome.

Full disclosure: I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So, what did I like about it?
I found Kharma Kelley’s writing style to be breezy with a good dose of sarcasm and enjoyed the inclusion of pop culture quotes and shows making this a very easy book to read.

I love stories that highlight the fact that we all have choices and that the choices we make not only affect us but those around us too. Sometimes, the hardest thing is to take personal responsibility for those choices we make.

As Tall, Dark & Deadly is the first book in a new series, I understand that it’s a fine balance between imparting information and pace of plot. Ms Kelley has built a complex paranormal world filled with vampires, shapeshifters, goblins, demons and various species of Fae, many of which will be very familiar to existing fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres. She has created an interesting history spanning millennia as well as a system of governance for the supernatural world which includes The Bureau who oversee the laws that every supernatural species has to adhere to. I’m intrigued to see where she’ll take us next and learning more about this world and how it works in subsequent books.

I really enjoyed Tall, Dark & Deadly; the relationship development, the adventure, the twists and surprises turned this story from a good book to a really good one, not to mention the passionate, erotic sex. Oh my! How can so few pages make me go from titillated to excited and adrenaline pumped to blubbering like a baby?! There is a nice little epilogue to finish this story off too which I enjoyed plus there’s the blurb about book 2 "Nocturnally Yours" which is coming out later this year right at the end. These characters have found a place in my heart so I will be looking out for it with hawk-like attention.

So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Now, I’ve got to be honest, yes I gave this book a 5 star (I loved it) rating but to begin with I didn’t like our heroine, Chloë Hunter. She was too gung-ho, seeming to lack the level of intelligence that I look for in a female lead and had to be rescued on numerous occasions from situations that were of a direct consequence of her thoughtless actions (*tut* I hate that!). However, I’m glad that I persevered because as the story continued, Ms Kelley gave us insights into Chloë’s history - the life she’d lead, the choices she’d had to make – that forged her into the adult she became. Ms Kelley also used Chloë’s new second-chance as an analyst with the Bureau as a way to develop her character and grow. I found myself seeing her with new eyes as I continued to read and did a complete 180° - Chloë earned my respect and won my heart.

So, basically what I’m saying is...
After a shaky start, I ended up really loving this action-packed, emotional, passionate, and sometimes dark, paranormal romance novel.

Due to the graphic violence and sexual content, I’m rating this book 18+ and so I’d recommend Tall, Dark & Deadly to adults who aren’t offended by content of this nature who like hunky heroes with a dark edge and enjoy seeing the female lead character really grow and come into their own within a relationship/romance tale that has some gritty story-lines and oodles of passion.

Well, this book is a big NO from me.

I was excited to read this book. The premise is solid and interesting, but I couldn’t make it to the fourth chapter. I would suggest the book be pulled for editing and re-released after some edits and revisions. Two stars because had it not been for the glaring errors and editorial issues, I could have really loved this book.

Example: Somewhere in the second or third chapter, author uses the word “just” three times in one sentence.

Unlike the majority of my reviews, this was not an advance copy. It’s been out for a few years now so I really see no sense in this sort of issue. Most books will have errors, but not one right after the other within the span of three or four pages.

I know that there are some really good reviews on Amazon for this book already, but it does make me wonder if those readers actually read with their eyes open because I seriously had a hard time getting through the beginning.

But, the editorial issues were not the only ones.

I felt like the main character, Chloe, was an absolute brat. I didn’t like her, not even a little bit. She was immature and, at times, I wanted to smack her teeth out. Ethan was a little bit more likable, but given what I know of Chloe, I found it unbelievable that he would ever want anything to do with her romantically–but, keep in mind, I didn’t make it far enough to see how that all happened. I’m assuming she must have had a drastic personality change somewhere in the middle of the book.

I really do hate it when things like this happen. I don’t think anyone downloads a book to their e-reader and actually wants to dislike it. Some of the reviews on Amazon come from some notable reviewers, so I’m going to investigate further–this is NOT the author’s only book and I do like the premise, so I’d like to give her another chance to entertain me. After all, vampire books seem to be disappearing these days. Or, not showing up anywhere at all.

I liked this book especially Ethan. It was a fun twist on the usual vampire books. This author's writing style is a little different and I felt it could use some refining, but all in all an enjoyable read.

Night time just got even more steamy.

Who doesn't love a good paranormal romance. Ethan, is the head of a vampire task force, and Chloe his latest recruit with a bit of an attitude he just can't seem to get to adjust. Chloe is constantly bending the rules until they snap and he has to swoop in and pull her out of trouble. Never mind that she's an ex con who he pulled into his team straight from behind the silver bars of prison, Ethan is having more trouble ignoring the heat that keeps springing up between them than he is trying to keep her under control.

Tall, dark and deadly is a fun short paranormal read. There was maybe a little too much going on in the way of species and not quite enough editing, but overall the book was worth the download and time to read for sure. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, it's definitely not the same old story that's too often overdone. I will be looking for more by this author very soon.

*** I recieved a free copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Chloe Hunter is on work release thanks to her sexy boss Ethan Raines. Incarcerated by the Bureau after a century of running with the Boyette brothers she knows The Bureau would rather see her at the end of a wooden stake. When Chloe gets dragged into her old gang’s deadly plans, Ethan is the only one who can help her.
Ethan Raines is a man with many secrets. Instrumental in the creation of the Bureau, his main goal is to keep the peace between the various supernatural factions. When Chloe is drawn in to a plot to kill the Fae, he wastes no time in cutting ties with the Bureau to save her.
I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t wait to see how it ends. The characters are well developed and engaging, the dialogue is witty, and the plot is fast paced. The relationship is a slow build with a perfect blend of angst and passion.
If you have a few hours to spare, then this is a book to get lost in.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. For more reviews please visit my blog:

This was a super fun read that I couldn't put down. I loved the main character, Chloe, who was a total badass with super powers. I also loved her love interest, Ethan, and all his secret hidden powers. I loved how Chloe befriended supes (supernaturals) who others always avoided, like her friend, the soul sucker! This book had some mystery, humor, and steamy sex scenes. I would definitely read more books featuring other characters from this book!

What can I say about this book?

It was super good. I liked the main character, Chloe with her spunky attitude and her Jimmies. I love Ethan and his Clark Kent meets sex god ways. The way the world is built in this story was pretty darn awesome too.

I want more of their story though! They definitely need their own sequel or prequel of their back story!

The start of this book was quite slow and I found myself willing it to pick up the pace. When it did pick up the story was great apart from the grammatical errors which made me have to re-read some of the sentences that didn’t make sense. Overall though a good story

I would give this 3.5 stars. Chloe is half human and half vampire, and she works for the Bureau (think FBI for supernaturals) with her sexy boss Ethan. Kept thinking this was London, but suppose to be set in New Orleans. Liked many parts, and found some parts confusing. Not sure why Ethan has such different powers, and why his partner at the Bureau wants to kill Chloe so bad. Liked the dragon at the end, and would like to see more of him. Perhaps with his own book? Interesting character. Would recommend, and it was a fast read, just had a few areas that could have been described more.
