Sassy and street-smart Chloe is half human/half vampire (called a damphir), having run around for a century with the wrong crowd. Ethan, a very old and emotionally supressed full-on-vampire, is one of the department boss’ at The Bureau. The Bureau among other things govern supernatural beings. Ethan decides to “save” Chloe from herself by being a sort of parole officer. Conflicts of interests while attraction simmers create sticky situations.

This book confused me. I actually checked to see if I had not by accident picked a book in the middle of a series. I felt as if the author assumed that I knew everything about the world this story was set in, instead of properly setting things up for me. Chloe and people around her kept referring to other people I had no idea who was, and it made getting into the story tiresome.

Chloe as a character I found very unlikeable. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer quips got a bit much, and will younger readers even get them? The plot was eventful enough, but the writing was at times very cringe worthy.

- He smacked his lips and smiled, exposing his blood-stained fangs.
- “You belong with us, Chloe. She exploded in laughter. “Like you belong in a solarium.”
- Chloe growled so loudly it startled even her as she violently rocked against the chains. Her fangs pierced her lips, and blood ran down her chin.
- Sadly, not strong enough that she could wrestle away from Ethan, whose abyssal ocean eyes were soft as they met hers.
- Ethan resumed his methodical stroll. It was slowly hypnotizing Chloe. Despite his looking like Clark Kent, the man had a dominating gait.
- He nuked the blood for me. He’s so cute, I just wanna punch him in the face!
- Ethan’s body roared to life, and his thoughts spun as her tongue danced with his, brushing against his fangs.

Final note. I took French in high school. It’s been a while. But I still noticed the author throwing in a lot of French words, incorrectly accented. Someone needs to talk to their editor.

Shades of Buffy. Another kick ass heroine on the prowl. Chloë is a bad girl gone good. As a Dhampir, she has all the strengths and none of the weaknesses of a vampire. Drinks blood but a cheeseburger would be better. Her old gang wants to use her for their own vile purposes but she has a job with the Bureau and gone straight. Meet Ethan Raines, her gorgeous boss with secrets of his own. I absolutely adored this book from the first to the last . It was fun and sexy. I want to read more from this author. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review.

4 1/2 Star Review....

Tall, Dark & Deadly is my first read by Kharma Kelley and also the first book in the Agents of the Bureau series. As a lover of the Vampire genre, requesting this book from NetGalley was a no brainer, and I’m so glad I did!

With a fast-paced plot, fun moments and some sizzling heat; there really isn’t anything not to enjoy about this fabulous story. It’s also refreshing that the naughty element of the character portrayal is the female and not the male lead; and Chloe Hunter is definitely not your good girl heroine. As Dhampir (a Vampire hybrid), she has all the usual Vampire strengths, but none of their weaknesses. So after many years of ending up on the wrong side of the law, she’s finally been brought to heel. But with all good things come conditions, and the conditions of Chloe’s escape from incarceration, are to serve the founder of The Bureau, Ethan Raines, by others who break the supernatural laws.

This is a wonderful PNR and I for one will be anxiously awaiting the next exciting instalment in Ms Kelley’s new series!

A big thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. This is a paranormal romance. Chloe is always getting in trouble, some of it because she doesn't follow direction! Ethan is her hunky boss with secrets. A cute story, fun and worth the read. I really liked some of the characters. I think most paranormal romance readers will enjoy. There are quite a few editing errors. I rate this a 3.5.
