Magic & monsters & petticoats return in this final Kingdom of Fire installment! Can the Ancients be defeated or will England fall?

I devoured this book. I read the whole novel in one sitting. Stayed up until 3 am.

I. Could. Not. Stop. Reading.

Henrietta Howel is my favorite kind of protagonist—flawed, headstrong, and evolving. Cluess truly take time to develop her characters and that, combined with the fast pacing and complicated world, hooks me.

And then there’s Magnus. Ahhh, Magnus. And sweet Rook. Heck, even Blackwell on a less pompous occasion makes my heart flutter. Okay, yes, the romance is complicated but reaches a solid conclusion.

Usually, I favor the first book in a trilogy but this series improved with each book. A Shadow Bright and Burning was good, but a bit bogged down in world/magical-system building. The second & third books thrived, just existing in the established world. A Sorrow Fierce and Falling is what readers want in a final book-- it solves problems, explains mysteries, and completes the story.

I will be first in line for whatever Cluess writes next. Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for my copy.

This was a truly satisfying conclusion to the trilogy by Jesscia Cluess. Cluess has created a terrifying world within the borders of Victorian England where ancient creatures are trying to rip away all semblance of order and destroy all magic. Henrietta Howell and Lord Blackwood are to be married at Sorrow-Fell, but first they must fight to protect everyone and everything dear to them. Magnus, their old classmate, is fighting right alongside them. Henrietta hatches a plan to defeat the Ancients, but must venture into dangerous territory to herself and others in order to begin her battle. Will the sorcerers, magicians, witches and magical creatures find common ground in order to save their world? This stunning and satisfying conclusion to the Kingdom on Fire trilogy will leave you wanting more stories from the incredible imagination of Jessica Cluess. Do not miss this series. For fans of steampunk (looking for another story about Victorian England), fantasy, historical fiction mixed with a ton of action, adventure and magic.

The only reason why my review is so low is because I did not realize that this was the third book in the series. I did however enjoy the writing and the style of the book. Now I am going to go and read the first 2 books in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the E-Arc copy of this novel. #ASorrowFierceandFalling

I knew this book would be sad, funny, devastating, and wonderful, yet Jessica Cluess brought her A game to this last novel. Howell is set to marry Blackwood at the start of this novel picking up right after the end of the second novel in this series. What comes in the first several chapters were upheaval, change, and growing up! No spoilers in my review, but I will say you cannot guess this last book. You have to read it! The series isn't neatly tied up because life is not neat. Cluess shows why this series is worth reading again. I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book. Thank you for a book series that filled the gap left behind by the Harry Potter series!

I had received a copy of the digital arc from netgalley for an honest review, and truly it doesn't get more honest than this. The Kingdom on Fire trilogy has left me breathless with each book, with its finale truly hitting the hardest. I read this in one glorious sitting, and birds are chirping and the sun is rising outside my window as I manage to write this in the aftermath of finishing this story while tears stream down my face. Jessica Cluess has written an outstanding conclusion to her brilliant story, showing that happy endings come in many forms, and not all are absolutely painless. This trilogy has been an emotional roller coaster, with A Sorrow Fierce and Falling being the most intense yet thrilling part of the ride. I don't believe I've read a tale more enchanting and visceral, and I can truly say that I will remember it as one of my favorites of all time. This has been one of the best books I've read all year, and you certainly will not want to miss the extraordinary ending of this marvelous series.
