The Dallas PD SWAT team have their hands full, thanks to a growing drug problem and gang-related incidents: a raid on a warehouse doesn’t go exactly as planned, then there’s a hostage situation in the Terrace Grove High School, where Jayden Brooks takes a bullet meant for teacher Selena Rosa. Jayden wasn’t too badly injured because he’s a werewolf, but most startling was that Selena might be “The One” for him, his true mate. The hostage-taking triggered Selena’s shifter DNA to surface, and Selena’s first shift might happen sooner than anticipated, which makes Jayden wonder if the connection he and Selena share could only be a reaction to her impending change.

This is a great book! WOLF RISING is the eighth instalment in the SWAT series, and decidedly one of the finest books in this series. While recurring characters are featured, and there’s a continuing story arc, WOLF RISING stands perfectly on its own; no pertinent details are missing, no one will be lost! WOLF RISING is flawlessly paced: from the explosive action at the beginning, to the SWAT team trying to elucidate the mystery of “the hunters”, finding the identity of the traitor in the Dallas Police Department, and the sultry romantic times between Jayden and Selena, it all flows seamlessly. The dialogues are spot-on, the plot meticulously crafted, and again Paige Tyler has written a splendid hero: no woman in her right mind could resist Jayden! And, apart from the eye colour, the model on the cover is exactly how I imagined Jayden. Selena is a fighter, she doesn’t shy away from confrontations, and she surprises everyone, even herself; one couldn’t dream of a better-matched pair.

Villains can make or break a suspense novel, and the bad guys in WOLF RISING are superb: they are terrifyingly realistic, ordinary people who have somehow turned deadly. There are a few subplots that bode well for the future: one revolving around Zane Kendrick, another around Carter Nelson – both Jayden’s teammates – and the secondary are fully fleshed-out and enhance the story: Becca, a good friend of Selena’s; Ernesto, Ruben, and a most intriguing black cat. The chemistry between Selena and Jayden is palpable from the start, and getting to know both their backstories was exquisitely done, and it makes us believe that they fall for each other so quickly. WOLF RISING is an excellent read, and with the hints dropped at the end, I am already eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Action packed, sexy, thrilling and engaging romantic adventure filled with danger, secrets and passion... could not put it down, loved it.

Jayden Brooks is a strong, sexy and protective alpha male and not at all convinced that a one true love even exists for him.... Selena Rosa is a smart, sweet and shy teacher that Jayden rescued after a hostage situation and is now experience all sorts of new things as her entire life changes. Was hooked from the very first chapter.

I love this series and was so excited when there was another book out! Brooks meets Selena when there is a hostage situation at her school.

While you could read this as a stand alone book, it really is better as a whole. The book is mostly about the romance between Brooks and Selena but there is the back story of the pack's struggle to find who is behind the hunters.

This investigation into who is behind the hunters will continue into the next book so there is no resolution there but we do find out one "bad" guy that won't be too much of a surprise.

Little things that happened in this book that hopefully will be part of the next book - why Rachel was shocked to see one of the hunters, and where did the other two escapees go?

There were twists that you did not see coming and one I saw little hints given so this was a book filled with intrigue, betrayal, and romance.

I enjoyed the story of Jayden and Selena. Selena is a strong-minded teacher who is serious about saving her students. When one takes her class hostage, she is saved by Jayden and his team. Together they learn about relying on others and what it means to be a wolf. I am really enjoying this series and I believe anyone would love it also.

This is book 8 in the Swat series and you absolutely need to read the previous books in the series to understand the things they are talking that happen in the bigger story ARC. This one is about SWAT member Jayden Brooks and school teacher Selena Rosa. Jayden meets Selena when he saves her in a hostage situation at her school by a student. Once he meets her though he has a hard time getting her out of his head, but he doesn't think he will see her again. Selena feels the need to at least thank the men who saved her life, especially Jayden. When they meet again Jayden knows there is something about her that draws him. But he doesn't realize at first that she is going through the change or exactly what that will mean to her.

I really liked this installment! Jayden has always made me wonder about him and this book definitely did his story justice! I loved how it pulled Selena into their world in a way that could have been traumatizing but with the help of not only Jayden but his team (his family!) they manage to pull her through and know that she has people to help her. I even loved how her backstory was handled and taken care of, even with it being as heart breaking as it was. Now after reading this one though, I seriously need Zane's book! Because please tell me he gets a HEA and heals!!

Wolf Rising is the latest book in Paige Tyler’s SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) Series. I have read them all and I have yet to be disappointed. Paige Tyler’s spin on werewolf lore has continued to be intriguing and surprising. She takes the age old stories about werewolves that we have grown up with and turns them on their heads. As with all of the other books, this story is about “The One”. It’s about a werewolf finding the one person on earth that they are truly meant to spend the rest of their lives with and all the chaos that ensues as they try to figure things out.

In this installment, Dallas SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks finds “The One” in school teacher Selena Rosa as he saves her from a gang member that his holding her and her students hostage. The crazy thing is that Selena who knows nothing about werewolves is also becoming one. Generally, it takes a few weeks for a traumatic event to transform someone with the werewolf gene into a full on werewolf but abnormal circumstances have sped up the process and made it a little difficult for Jayden to find a subtle way to explain things to Selena. To add insult to injury, Selena is becoming extremely aggressive. Add in some highly explosive sexual energy and everything goes haywire.

Initially, I suspected that after several books the author would have a hard time keeping me interested but that hasn’t happened. There is plenty of action as werewolf hunters from the prior books continue to pursue them and they also figure out who the inside man is. Consequently, it’s best that you read the other books if you really want to have the whole experience and participate in the overarching storyline that is the cornerstone of the series. There is plenty of action to keep you turning the pages. Everything flows nicely and I was compelled to keep reading. It was hard to put the book down. Jayden and Selena are good together and it’s entertaining to watch their relationship blossom so swiftly. They were truly meant to be. I am confident that the next book will be just as good and I look forward to reading it.

Many of Paige Tyler's SWAT series titles open with an origin story about how the main character becomes a werewolf. I like this because it allows me to understand the hero from the get-g0. I wasn't prepared for Jayden though, the prologue had me on the edge of my seat with my mind willing me to read faster and faster. Of course with a police officer as brave as Jayden he has to have an equally courageous mate, enter Selena, a woman who doesn't have to have superpowers to stand up for what is right. Their romance went from zero to sixty just like the SWAT team action. If you've read the other SWAT books you won't be disappointed. If you haven't read them, first, read them asap and second, this is a great one to start with, you'll love it!

I've been a fan of this series since the start. It offers a nice blend of romance and action that I really like, so I'm always happy to see a new offereing in the series.

In Wolf Rising, Jayden Brooks meets "The One" during a situation at a school. He's immediately intrigued by Selena, and vice versa, especially after she is saved by Jayden and his super werewolf capabilities.

Selena has some things to deal with herself -- mostly caused by the fact she's in the process of turning into a werewolf herself, a situation incited by the incident at the school. Only problem is that Selena is a special type of werewolf that can cause a good deal of havoc for Jayden and his pack, not to mention the drug dealers in the area.

I did like that some of the characters from the first books in the series make an appearance here, especially Gage. But sadly, this book just didn't resonate with me the way the previous books in the series have. It felt a little flat and while I liked Jayden and Selena, something felt missing that I just can't put my finger on. Your mileage may vary as they say.

An ARC was provided for review.

The action begins on page one and continues till the final pages slowing down every so often for a bit of romance & getting to know you time. The author expands upon her unique werewolf mythology and adds a couple twists and turns as well. In prior books, we've gotten to see the events that trigger werewolf gene & transformation but this is the first time where we actually get to really watch the transformation kick in and the process take place. while it doesn't go exactly smoothly or as anticipated, the author handles things in a manner that adds enough reality to bring the characters to life with added depth and interest. while the series as a whole has a large cast, the author keeps the story focused on the main plot lines and the relevant characters to a manageable level with enough info to help keep them straight without being overwhelming (even for those who've been with the series from book 1). As always, left with a satisfying ending but looking forward to where the next installment will lead.

Wolf Rising

SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team Series - Book 8

By Paige Tyler

Sourcebooks Casablanca - November 2018

Paranormal Romance

Senior Corporal Jayden Brooks had just left one dangerous assignment for another. The first had risked trained officers, but the second was a much more dangerous mission. A gang member had pulled his gun in his classroom. Jayden would have done anything to save the students and teacher, but when he saw Selena Rosa, his protective instincts went wild.

Selena couldn't stop thinking of the SWAT officer who had saved her life. She decided to track him down to thank him for rescuing her, and as she spent time with him, she began to suspect that he was absolutely perfect. However, Jayden was not the sole individual on her mind. With the shooting, she worried about what her students were doing with their time off, and wanted to ensure that they were safe from the criminal elements. She knew it was dangerous, but she was feeling slightly feral when it came to protecting her own.

Wolf Rising is an action packed addition to Paige Tyler's SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series. I enjoyed the interaction between Brooks and the other officers and the introduction of the cat. It was interesting watching Selena learn so many truths. In fact, there were so many issues and challenges facing the characters, the romance between Brooks and Selena almost became secondary. Questions are answered, but more questions arise which hopefully will be addressed in the next SWAT story.

This is Book 8 in the Swat: Special Wolf Alpha Team series. I love to read Paige Tyler’s books. They are all so exciting and she just keeps making them better and better. Selena is a teacher in a bad school district. Her class is held hostage by a student and that’s when the Swat team enters the picture. Brooks saves her from being shot by the student. There’re so many surprising things going on throughout the book and you will be kept guessing as to what’s going to happen at the end. What a great book! I love the Swat team and can’t wait to read more about them. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.

Paige hits it out of the park again. This series is as strong as when it started. Jayden and Selena are perfect together. The chemistry between these two is incredible. The relationship story helps move the overall arc of the hunters trying to eliminate the werewolves. The action is almost non-stop.

The best part of the story are the two leads who are dynamite together. I felt that Selena was as strong as Jayden, which made for great interactions between the two. Finding out that Selena was an omega also added to the story. This series just keeps getting better and better.

Received as an arc from Netgalley.

SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #8, I love this cover! It's one of my favorite covers for this series, so far, and I love Jayden, he's one of my favorites second only to Landry. I love the direction Paige Tyler went with this book and how Selena ended up being an Omega. It really shines a new light on Omegas. Paige Tyler is so fantastic at what she does, her action scenes are intense and well written it's easy to picture in my head how everything happened. Her romance is something to swoon over too. Selena and Jayden don't start off like a normal couple after their initial meet, which Jayden rescues her from a student who was holding the class hostage at gunpoint, they try the typical first date stuff but with Selena going through the change at an expedited rate things get hot and heavy and bitty pretty quickly.

While Jayden and the other SWAT members are working with another department to help track down a new and extremely dangerous drug and the new mysterious crime boss behind it. Selena is dealing the the gang members in her school and trying to protect her students from becoming their next inductees or their next victims. All the while Selena is dealing with her new reality and what that means for her and Jayden. To top it all off, they still have to worry about the Hunters and it turns out there is a leak and it's a little too close to home.

Overall, I loved this book, this whole series is so freakin' good each book just keeps getting better and better. This book also introduces a new member for the SWAT pack, a woman named Rachel.

Most series would have lost my interest by now but not the SWAT series by Paige Tyler! She’s back with an all new book in the super hot, super intense series about a group of alpha werewolves working as a SWAT unit in Dallas. The series has expanded since the first book and now includes beta wolves, omega wolves, and more. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the direction this series is heading.

Taking the lead this time is werewolf Jayden Brooks, a character longtime fans (like me) are familiar with. He essentially rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation involving one of her former students when he realizes she’s The One. Basically it means she’s the one fated to be his lifetime love and partner. But of course things get complicated real fast because that hostage situation just triggered Selena’s werewolf gene and she’s going through the change. Worse, she’s showing signs of becoming an omega wolf, the most out of control and violent breed Brooks has come across.

Wolf Rising takes on a more urgent tone that its predecessors because the werewolf hunters introduced a few books back are getting more and more aggressive in their quest to eradicate Brooks and his fellow wolves. There’s a lot of tension present throughout the whole story and the hunters serve as a conflict that is going to take not just all of the SWAT team, but all the allies they’ve managed to make along the way. It’s a two steps forward, three steps back kind of game that has me coming back to this series as eager as I was when I picked up the first book a few years ago.

As bad as the hunters are, they don’t take away the spotlight from Brooks and Selena. Their romance is complicated but it’s a solid one, and yes it is a case of near instantaneous love for them, but because Wolf Rising is a paranormal romantic suspense it works really well. Brooks is total boyfriend material and Selena is a tough as nails woman more than capable of learning to control her aggressive wolf side which was a conflict all its own. In this book readers learn more about the omega wolves that up until now were thought to be irredeemable and dangerous. I really love how Tyler has manages to keep the series fresh by weaving more strands into a world she’s already established without overcomplicating things or confusing readers. She doesn’t overdo it when she’s rehashing previous events to catch new readers up, and she makes sure that longtime readers get fresh, new material.

One of the constant things I really enjoy about Wolf Rising and the books before it is the relationship and work dynamic between the SWAT team. They’re not a group of wolves following an alpha, they’re ALL alpha wolves. They just don’t have the controlling d-bag tendencies that seem to be popular in other sub-genres of romance. These wolves are big, bad, and dangerous but they also have the ability to crack readers up with their sometimes childish teasing of each other. Brooks gets teased by his fellow alphas but he knows that they are the ones he can count on to watch his back. After they’ve made fun of him of course. I love those guys. Every single one of them.

Overall, Wolf Rising is a stand out addition to the SWAT series with the edge-of-your-seat suspense, red-hot romance, and a cast of werewolves that you can’t help but fall in love with. I can’t wait for the next book.

Fantastic addition to the series.

Wolf Rising is the eighth book in Paige Tyler’s SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team Series. This book is a romantic suspense novel with fantastic characters and a great storyline which adds to the SWAT Team World that Tyler has created.

When werewolf SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks is called into help with a hostage situation at a local high school he never expected to meet “The One”. But the moment he sees teacher Rosa Selena he’s hooked. Rosa and Jayden have an instant and intense attraction to one another, but will the traumatizing event of that meeting, the resulting trigger of the werewolf genes in Selena and the local gang war keep them apart? Read it to find out.

This is the first book in Tyler’s SWAT series that I have read, and I’m hooked. This story is filled with danger, intrigue, fantastic characters, intense chemistry and heart-melting romance. I plan on reading the rest of the books in this series and can’t wait for the next one.

All the books in this series contain a happily ever after and can be read as a standalone, however, reading it in order will give you a better appreciation for the characters and the series itself.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced readers copy.

4 1/2 star Review.....

Paige Tyler has become one of my “Go to” authors as her books are amazing. I love her SEALs, Firefighters, and X-Ops; but the SWAT books with their abundance of alpha personalities, and drool worthy Weres, are off the charts!

Selena is one tough cookie; she has spent her life fighting to survive and battling against the gangs who would strip her of her very existence if given the chance. But when a student goes off the deep end, and Selena is threatened at gunpoint, Jayden is brought in with the SWAT team to assess the situation and rescue this proud and feisty teacher.

Readers will learn more about the dangerous hunters in this book, while watching the formidable Jayden and the mysterious Selena find their way in this explosive action/romance. A real page turner and definitely all consuming too!

Jayden Brooks is a Deputy with the Gulfport, Mississippi Sheriffs office. He is called to the Bayou High School for a report of a big man with a knife. He gets there in time to save a sixteen year old girl just before he was brought down by this man. It appears that this will be his final action as an officer. He is not dead, but is now a part of a Swat team of werewolves. They fight drugs, gangs and other things that only their team can handle. When Selena is rescued during a school shooting by Brooks and team, she realizes that something has changed about her. Will she be saved once these changes take over? What about the relationship between Brooks and Selena? She is a strong and sassy woman. I love all the guys of the Dallas Swat team. There are hunky guys with steamy love scenes . Great book. I received this book from Net Galley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions expressed are my own.

Like fine wine, the SWAT series is getting better with age. SWAT’s Book 8, “Wolf Rising” pumps so much adrenaline from the first page to the last that it can give “The Fast & the Furious” a run for its money. And quite frankly, if Netflix or Hulu picks up this series, it will attract both men and women.

For romance lovers, “Wolf Rising” is the love story of SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks and high school teacher Selena Rosa. Hence, you can expect steamy love scenes.

But, as always, Paige Tyler does not write straight romance. With its paranormal bent, a cop procedural was also added, plus the ongoing mystery of wolf hunters which had besieged our heroes from Book 1. In short, Tyler has gone from strength to strength with each new installment of the SWAT series.

Without going into spoilers, “Wolf Rising” also unravels some wolf shifter mystery. It’s a fascinating subplot! It is also an additional element to Jayden and Selena’s story.

For fans of the series, this is a must-read. If by chance, this is your introduction to the SWAT series, don’t worry, “Wolf Rising” is a standalone novel. There will be mentions of what happened in the past, so chances are you will get curious and pick up the first 7 books!

“Wolf Rising” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.
