Thank you Norwood House amd Netgalley for this ARC.

Another enjoyable children’s book in the Astro series. My daughter and I enjoy exploring these books together.

Well done. There was a lot of question and answer play between Astro, Ben, and Eva. Much like you would see in a child or in a new being come to our planet.

This is a great Astro the Alien title. The illustrations are fun and both our 2 year old and 4.5 year old enjoyed reading about the pond animals and seeing the supporting images. They were partial to the duck, frog, and toad. This is a great series for early readers and helps to build vocabulary and confidence.

I am always looking for books to purchase for my future children, and being an evironmental science major, this book caught my attention immediately. I think this book is great for kids to learn some basic facts about different animals that live by ponds. I enjoyed the fact that it went over the difference between roads and frogs because that is a question I get asked every day at my nature job. The illustrations/style was not my favorite but it was cute enough to have a kid stay entertained!

The Astro the Alien series is a Beginning to Read Book published by Norwood Press. I like this series as it is simple to read and filled with a lot of activities and suggestions at the end to help children develop both reading recognition skills and comprehension skills. The is also a work list of both hight frequency words and content words that can be shared before reading the book. In this book Astro, Ben and Eva are in the backyard when a frog hops by. Knowing that frogs live near water they head off to follow him in Astro's space pod. Once they arrive at the pond, they look around for the frog and find not only him, but other pond animals as well. When the pod turns into a canoe, they were able to travel on top of the pond and see even more animals such as tadpoles in the water. When they find a frog with string wrapped around him they help untangle it. This could lead to a discussion about hoe garbage and other discarded items can harm animals. The illustrations were well done. They are bright, colourful and large so you can see the animals clearly. A good book for a family library and primary classroom.

This book (and other books in the series) is an excellent resource for parents and caregivers of young children. It provides a lot of introductory facts about pond animals within a visually pleasing backdrop that will appeal to pre-k and young primary age children. The vocabulary is simple enough for them to grasp but also introduces new concepts they probably aren't aware of yet. I'd recommend this to anyone who is involved in the life of a young child.

I applaud this series, clearly designed to educate small children and elementary age children, entertain, and guide in reading comprehension. Using repetition, with each speaker reiterating plus adding to the information given, children learn about animals, and also caring for animals (protectiveness). The included guide helps parents and teachers to promote both comprehension and understanding reading.
