Anne Arrives was such a sweet read. I'm excited to purchase this in hard copy to read to my daughter. The illustrations were darling. Beautifully done! It will be a wonderful addition to any reader's shelf.

Normally I hate abridged adaptations of classic children’s book (Don’t get me started on Great Illustrated Classics), but this one has thawed my heart. The original book has been divided into sections, and the that section made into an early chapter book with great illustrations. It works. The abridger managed to keep Anne’s heart, Marilla’s sternness, and Mathew’s gentleness. I assume this is the first book of at least 4 volumes if not 6 or more. It goes from Anne arriving to the apology to Mrs. Lynde. I now want the next volume please.

I adored the Lucy Maude Montgomery novels growing up and was excited to see an adaptation available on NetGalley.

This title did not disappoint Kallie George doesn’t stray far from the original book. You still get a good sense of Anne (with an E) and her delightful personality, complete with the highs and lows…or the “depths of despair” as Anne would describe them. This book is the very beginning of the beginning of Anne’s story of her arrival at Green Gables.

The artwork only adds to the charm of this short book. I like to think new readers finding the same delight as I did in the original books in this new version. Sometimes artwork can take away from your own mind’s imagining of what characters and places look like. But that was not the case here, in my opinion.

I look forward to more of Anne’s story.

A wonderful and beautifully illustrated adaptation of Anne of Green Gables aimed at early readers, this book covers the first few chapters. If you’ve seen the Netflix series show “Anne with an E” it doesn’t include everything in the first episode, but covers it, leaving out minor details.

Anne goes to live with the Cuthberts, Marilla and Matthew, a couple who find themselves in need of more help on the farm, and have made plans to adopt a boy. Matthew arrives at the train station, the very chatty Anne-with-an-e is there to greet him instead of the boy they had requested.

He returns to the farm with Anne and Marilla’s irritation over the mix-up, they need a hard worker, after all, but Anne is determined to win her over and prove she can do – and probably better.

When a neighbor comes calling, and comments on Anne’s red hair in a less than kind manner, Anne learns a valuable lesson about apologizing, and being kind.

The illustrations by Abigail Halpin are charming, and the chapters are short enough to keep even young readers attention.

I loved this, and will be buying this for my favourite three-year-old, and the rest of this series as they become available.

This is the perfect introduction to Anne of Green Gables for younger children. It has beautiful illustrations and tells just enough of the story to make you want to read the original book and get deeper into the story of Anne and her adventures.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book to review.

Precious! This bedtime story is a faithful telling of the original. How awesome to be able to read it to little ones while they still fit in our laps and not have to wait until they're older to share this wonderful book. Then when they are older, we can enrich the experience with the original. I smiled through the whole story.

The illustrations perfectly match Anne's story. From the landscapes to the rooms in Green Gables, we feel right at home!

What an absolute joy. I look forward to others like this one that continue the adventures of Anne, Matthew, Marilla and all of Avonlea.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for the privilege and the pleasure of reading and reviewing such a darling book.

Anne Arrives adapted by Kallie George with pictures by Abigail Halpin is my most anticipated title of the fall. I fell in love with Anne as a child, not through the books (terrible, I know) but through the incredible CBC made for TV specials staring Megan Fellows as Anne. I must admit I still have not read the novels, I’m too hung up on the television version of Anne but they are on my list of must-reads at some point in the near future. What I love about Anne Arrives is it is a beginner’s version of the novels, which for a young person can be a bit arduous to read. Kallie George has done a masterful job of keeping the spirit of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s writing, including all the most important descriptive language and all the spirit of Anne. The illustrations match the writing to a tee. She captured Anne in all her red haired glory. I have a red headed little girl of my own and am so excited to share Anne’s story with her. I’m so excited there will be a way to do so now, to hopefully inspire her to pick up the Lucy Maud Montgomery books when she is older and delve into life on Avonlea. I want her to experience the kindred spirits and the beautifully descriptive language of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s work and I know that Kallie George’s version will be the perfect catalyst for many little girls and boys who want to know Anne, Diana, Gilbert, Matthew, Marilla, Rachel and all the cast of wonderful characters who inhabit Avonlea, P.E.I.

This is the first book in an early reader series about Anne of Green Gables. This short chapter book covers the first chapter of the novel. I wish this series had been around when I tried to read Anne to my young daughter. It is very true to the original story. The illustrations are wonderful and appear vintage so as not to take away from the time of the story. They do a wonderful job of depicting the storyline. This would make a beautiful story for a parent and child to read together while introducing them to the world of Anne with an "e". Even with this shorter version, the personalities of Anne, Marilla and Matthew shine through. This is a great book to introduce young children to a classic piece of literature. The publisher, Penguin Random House Canada - Tundra Books, provided me with a copy of this book to read. The opinions stated are my own.

Book received from NetGalley

This book was really cute, it's a chapter book retelling of how Anne came to stay at Green Gables. If you already know the story you'll see just how much was taken out or retold to make this short book understandable and cohesive. It's definitely a good way for a younger child to be introduced to this series. I really recommend it.

Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite stories so of course I enjoy all things Anne, and this book is no exception. Based on the first few chapters of Anne of Green Gables and accompanied by beautiful illustrations, this sweet little book follows the original book closely. I do hope this becomes a series and there are more books planned to finish telling the story!

Rarely do I read a chapter book more than once, but Anne of Green Gables is one exception. It's one of my favorite books of all times so when I saw there was a picture book version about Anne of Green Gables I knew I had to read it. "Anne Arrives" is based on the first few chapters of the chapter book and I was happy to see that it follows very close to the original book. I read "Anne Arrives" aloud to my four year old daughter in the hopes of getting her hooked into L.M. Montgomery books at a young age. My brainwashing must have succeeded because she was delighted with the story and was very interested to see if Marilla and Matthew would keep Anne despite their initial hesitation. The illustrations do a wonderful job of depicting the story line and there was the perfect amount of words per page to keep even a preschooler entertained. I thought that this was a great book to introduce young children to a classic piece of literature. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book. All thoughts expressed are my honest opinions of the book.

The illustrations are cute, but I would much rather read the original. Nevertheless, this is a good way to introduce Anne to younger readers.

What a lovely book! I am partial because I used to read the Anne of Green Gables stories as a child, but this is a fine introduction to Anne for younger readers. Readers will instantly connect to and root for Anne with an e. Oh, and the illustrations are divine. Looking forward to reading more in the series!

I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a beautiful introduction of Anne Shirley to young readers. As a fan of the original books, I wanted to read more. Anne has so many wonderful adventures and this book is just the beginning. The writing is simple, easy for young readers to read and understand, yet still reminiscent of the original story. The illustrations are perfect. I hope that, once the complete series is published, the publisher will offer a complete boxed set.

Anne Arrives by Kallie George

Big hugs and kisses to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for providing me with a digital Arc in return for my honest review!!!

I grew up reading Anne of Green Gables, watched any show that was made. I have searched countless knitting patterns inspired by Anne and the lovely characters in her story.

I loved this book so so much, it was super quick read, would be great as a bedtime story with your little ones. The illustrations are by far my favorite thing. They are simple yet so intricate. It makes you want to stand in the Canadian snow wrapped with a handmade quilt, while sipping some tea.

We are giving this a 5/5 stars!!! This is a great starter book if you want to get your little more into Anne of Green Gables. I can’t wait until it comes out so I can purchase a hardcopy for my collection.

A charming simplified rehashing of the original classic book's first few chapters written and illustrated for a younger generation. The pictures are full color, detailed and old fashioned as befitting the timeline of the story. The story itself is cut down to the level of early readers who are just grasping the concepts of plot, characters, cause an effect. It's not the most exciting child's book but I think Anne is a timeless character and her enthusiam and forthrightness will appeal to young girls of the current generation, and it will likely provide a welcome respite for parents reading to their daughters who are swamped with princess stories.

Anne Arrives is a gorgeously-illustrated book telling the very first part of the Anne of Green Gables story. Just barely long enough to be a real chapter book, this would be a wonderful way to transition from picture books into chapter books. The vocabulary used is likely not simple enough for new readers to tackle on their own, but this would be a lovely book to read together. I'm hoping that there will be more in this series because there is just so much more Anne to love.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with a DRC of this very lovely book.

Let me first say that this book is full of the most beautiful illustrations. This is a adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, telling the story of Anne coming to Green Gables and getting to stay. It is a must for any fan or a great introduction to a future fan of Anne.

This book brings Anne of Green Gables to the early reader stage. Whereas Goodnight Anne is an original story based on the characters, this one is an adaption of the beginning of the first Anne of Green Gables book. I thought it was very well adapted in that it is true to the original with many of the iconic phrases still being used, but with simpler language for early readers. I wouldn’t want this to take the place of the original novel, but it would be a good choice if you want to expose the story line to younger readers. The illustrations are very bright and sweet and they are frequent enough to keep young readers engaged in the story line.
