I always look forward to the next in Faith Martin's Hillary Greene series. Hillary is a compelling lead character, likeable yet capable of making frustrating decisions. The Oxfordshire setting is evocatively drawn, providing an excellent backdrop to the mystery plot.

I really enjoyed this book and I am really pleased that the series is actually improving as it progressing when after so many books already published they standard could very easily slip or the plots could all intermingle in to one, but I am delighted to say that it certainly wasn't a case of that with this book!

Hillary is a great character and she must be a joy to write about and use as the main character. The plot in this one is great, it flows very well and the writing style is superb as normal. I love that this isn't as hard hitting as some of the series out there and it isn't quite a soft as cosy crime - it fits just perfect in the middle for me when I want an easy read.

Five stars from me, I loved this added edge to her character as she is determined to solve the crimes that were too hard for the others...

What a fantastic read, just what we have come to expect from Faith Martin. I love this series, we have a whole new team to get to know and love and Hillary has a massive personal problem to contend with as well as a murder case to solve. I realky enjoyed this book, there was pkenty of action to keep me entertained and engaged right the way through the book and that ending what a cliff hanger!
I highly recommend this book and dont hesitate in giving it 5 stars if was brilliant.

Another installment in my favourite crime series! As always, a good plot and sub-plot, great characters and the start of a romance will keep the pages turning.

The more books of Faith Martin I read, the more I like her writing style. I love the Hillary Green series (although I don't understand why she keeps calling herself 'Greene' when she hates her ex-husband so much. What happened to her own name?)
Hillary and her colleagues make up an interesting group, the story flows - fast! - and it is nice that Faith Martin packs all this in a not very long book. Everything you need to read, is there. And makes you wanting more.

Thanks Netgalley for this book. I only hope that I will be allowed to read more books in this series, as I was declined recently for another Faith Martin book ;-( without telling me why.

Working on cold cases isn't as exciting as working on live ones but it is rewarding to solve them. Hillary is good at what she does and she views a ten year old closed case as just another case to find a missing piece...

Joffe Books and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published so you can get a copy now.

He was a young college student who was obsessed with sex. He slept with everyone, boys or girls, didn't matter to him. So who stuck a pair of scissors in his gut?

As Hillary asks questions and tries to set the scene in her mind, she has a stalker after her. He's secondary to her but he probably shouldn't be.

She solves this case but will she solve the next one?

Even though this is the 13th book in the series it had a kind of re-boot between books 11 and 12 where Hilary retired and then came back with a new job investigating cold cases. This means that it is possible to start anywhere in the series but obviously more enjoyable to start from the beginning.

This book mainly centres around a cold case from 10 years back, where a student was found murdered in his room with a pair of scissors and only his housemates in at the time.

The suspect list is quite long despite this as we only have his landladies word that no-one else was in the house and that he was a bit of a lover so could possibly have slept with the wrong person’s daughter, or wife, and they could have snuck in and murdered him without anyone noticing.

The other subplot involves Hilary’s stalker, who was alluded to quite heavily in the previous book, but has now become more brazen and threatening.

This is quite a good continuation of the series, especially with the added threat of the stalker following and harassing Hilary, although with all the police resources at her disposal I would think she could find out who the stalker actually is before he does any more serious damage.

I really like the direction these books are going in now that we are investigating the cold cases as it does give a fresh look to the books, and also allows Hilary to grow without the books from getting old and repetitive.

I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Hilary’s life and also to read about the next murder she has to look back into in the next book, which is out shortly.

The second in the series since Hillary became a civillian consultant. There is a case to be solved but a lot of the plot is devoted to Hillarys stalker.

Its good to see the relationships developing between the new team and Hillary. There are multiple suspects in the case they're re-investigating. However, the stalker issue is left on a cliff hanger which personally I find frustrating.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for this arc.

Also, I'd like to apologize for taking so long to post this review. Once I'd finished this book, I HAD to go back and read many of the previous dozen books in the series as my conscious would let me. I LOVED Hillary! Smart, intuitive and tough. She doesn't suffer fools much but is pragmatic enough to deal diplomatically with most of them. This is # 13 in the series, but my first one to read. There's enough backstory here to understand Hillary, but easily comprehensible as a stand alone. I highly recommend for fans of Angela Marson's Kim Stone series

4.5 Stars

Hillary Green may no longer be a busy DI, but she is quite busy nonetheless. She is now a member of the Case Review Team, and is investigating cold cases. Having successfully solved the case in her new job as a civilian consultant, she is now investigating the murder of Rowan Thompson, a twenty-year-old killed ten years ago. Rowan had a reputation of being quite the Lothario. Could one of his previous partners been disgruntled enough to have found cause to brutally kill him?

Also, Hillary's stalker is still looming, and he is becoming far more aggressive with his messages and flowers. Her new boss, the ultra yummy Steven Crayle, has devised a plan to pretend that they are a couple to see if a bit of jealousy will draw the stalker out. This proves to be more of a challenge for Hillary because she is quite drawn to Steven. The feeling proves to be mutual. It is at this point that I realized that I should have read at least book twelve in this series.

Murder of a Lover, previously released as A Narrow Margin of Error, is book number thirteen in this series by Faith Martin. I am a voracious reader who especially likes to devour entire series. Although I jumped into the middle of this one with this book, it read perfectly well as a standalone. There was just enough said about Hillary's past to understand her motives and her approach to the situations faced before her.

However, Faith Martin has left us with a cliffhanger. I really NEED book 14, and cannot wait to read it to see what happens next. Thankfully, we do not have long to wait. A side note: the author has begun a new series, with a young new policewoman. This author is a definite autobuy for me now. I missed this series first time around, and it is really great to get a chance to read this now, and I will also try and read the previous titles.

Many thanks to Joffe Books and to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest re

Detective Hillary Greene is working another cold case at the Thames Valley Police HQ. She is a consultant with the Crime Review Team. Ten years ago, Rowan Thompson was found stabbed to death with a pair of scissors in his student house. Rowan was known for being quite the ladies man, and not one at a time either. Is it possible that one of his scorned lovers is the murderer? Meanwhile, Greene's stalker is becoming more aggressive with the notes and flowers. Maybe she should re-think how she is handling this person. Can the Crime Review Team and Greene find the killer of Rowan Thompson after all this time? Greene better watch herself, because her stalker certainly is. I would like to thank both Net Galley and Joffe Books for a copy of this story. I voluntarily reviewed it and this is my opinion of it.

As this is part of the Hilary Green series the books are most definitely best read in order. I did find this book to be just as good as the others in the series and I will be looking out for the next one

Another really good mystery/thriller from Faith Martin. I am loving this series of books and this one follows on from DI Hilary Greene being retired. She has a stalker now and suffice to say, the author has woven an intriguing story line. This is book 13 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend this series of books. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads, Amazon and Facebook.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
Ex-DI Hillary Greene, now a civilian investigator for the Cold Case Department, is looking into the murder of a lothario, a college student who was killed with scissors 10 years ago. The perpetrator was never caught and Hillary has to rely on the old case files for forensics and find the people around at the time for interviews.
At the same time, her stalker is getting a bit more aggressive, enough to cause her to form a pretense romance with her boss, hoping to flush out the man.
Hillary is a first-rate investigator, she always gets her man/woman and is easy to admire. The stories continue to be fresh, holding one's attention. There's always a surprise ending too, which I love. Kudos to Faith Martin for this excellent series, can't wait for the next book!

The Hilary Greene Series of books by Faith Martin are quite addictive not only for the crimes that are solved but the background in which the characters and her life develops. Going from being a Detective Inspector to a civilian with the Crime Review Team (Cold Cases) Hilary Greene books are easy to read but not so easy to put down. I really am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the thirteenth book in Faith Martin's Murder series and I am still intrigued to see where Hillary will go next. DI Hillary Greene has retired, but life without work quickly lost its appeal(if it ever was appealing at all). Hillary has returned as a civilian consultant/employee assigned to the Cold Case department where she can utilize her former investigative skills to re-examine unsolved crimes.
As always, Hillary has quite a lot going on. She is investigating the ten-year-old murder of a college student, she has unfortunately acquired a stalker and she may have more than a professional interest in her boss, Stephen. Her new role is quite a change for her and she doesn't come across in the same manner as she did before. Rather understandable though since this is a new chapter in her life.
The murder investigation was well written and the identity of the killer was a surprise. I am hopeful that Hillary identifiers her stalker(soon) since he is definitely creepy and no good can come from his obsession. I still look forward to reading the next book, so for me, Hillary remains an enjoyable character.
Thank you, Faith Martin, Joffe Books and NetGalley for the complimentary digital ARC.

What a great read! I knew Hillary couldn't stay out of retirement long. And two years was long enough. a new team to deal with - a sexy boss, an eager to learn newbie, another retired cop and a sulky femme fatale wannabe... All with a serial killer who has set his eyes on Hillary. I love that it will continue in the next book. Faith always leaves you wanting more!! #murderofalover #netgalley
