Sloth at the Zoom by Helaine Becker and Orbie is a wonderful little look at some of the animals you can find at the zoo.

One day the Zoom got a delivery of a new animal. It was a sloth. Unfortunately sloth was delivered to the wrong place, she should have gone to the Zzzzzoo not the Zoom. She tries her best to make friends with the other animals but it is really difficult. She’s so slow and they are so fast. One day she meets a kindred spirit, a snail. They spend some time with each other, peaking the interest of the other animals at the Zoom, who slow down long enough to make friends.

Sloths are funny creatures, so slow and lethargic, yet so cute and cuddly looking and make the most perfect book characters. You will have a lot of fun reading this book aloud, using your slowest voice for sloth and your fastest voice for the other animals. You can really use this book to delve into some studies about animals, comparing animals by speed, making inferences about which animals you could find at the Zzzzzoo. It’s a really fun story you can take in many different directions to expand your child’s understanding of animals and classification. It will inspire you to make a trip to the zoo, in person or virtually, to discover more about all the incredible creatures we can find sharing our world.

Sloth arrives at her new home the Zoom where everyone goes so fast they don’t have time to stop and chat or relax. She thought she was going to the Zzzzzoo where animals live at a slower pace, but she finds her way (slowly) around the Zoom and tries to make friends. When she finally meets a friend whose more her speed, they’re able to enjoy a snack together, and the other animals who are normally too busy take notice and decide to relax a bit too.

In a fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day hustle, but Sloth at the Zoom is a cute and clever reminder that we all need to stop and enjoy the life around us. Sometimes a slower pace is necessary and rewarding.

A sloth gets delivered to the zoom rather to the zoo. The zoom is a place where every animal is fast and in a hurry. Sloth is trying to make friends but no one has time to get to know her until she meets Snail. Their friendship blossoms (slowly!) and eventually the other animals notice and decide to join them and finally take a break.

The story is darling. The illustrations are fun. I specifically enjoyed that Sloth tried to make a new friend every few weeks (sloths do everything slowly) and that it took her multiple pages to make her way from her branch over to a leave where Snail was sitting. The underlying humor surely will be entertaining to parents. The message of the book is great: take a break every now and then, not everything needs to be done fast. I can see this book becoming a staple in libraries, daycares, classrooms, and any place occupied by people who have a soft spot for sloths and their way of life.

Sloth at the Zoom is the story of a sloth who thought she was headed to the Zzzzzzoo but ended up being accidentally delivered to the Zoom! When she arrives, it takes her a while to get settled (what with being a sloth and all), but then she's ready to make some friends.

Unfortunately, all of the other animals at the Zoom are a bit zoomier than the sloth and so she struggles to make any connections. Eventually, she does find a new friend who is more her speed and they settle in to have a snack. As evening comes, some of the other animals are ready for a bit of a slower pace and join the two new friends and everyone gets to know each other.

The message here is supposed to be that everyone should slow down and make time for what matters. Knowing the little ones I know, I suspect this book would have some kids questioning why the speedy ones should need to change their nature. Possibly a good book to open many different sorts of discussions, but probably just a book that pun-loving kids will find hilarious. (Ha! It's a zoom instead of a zoo!)

Thank you to NetGalley and Owlkids Books for providing me with a DRC of this book.

. A sloth is meant to get transferred to the Zzzzzoo, but instead arrives at the Zoom where all the animals move very fast. He tried to make friends, but no one had any time for him. The sloth starts to feel very blue until he met a snail. They sat down to relax together and finally, in the evening, the other animals joined them and everyone was friends. This could be a great book to discuss how everyone is different and you should be yourself. Not once in the book did Sloth try to change to make friends and I absolutely loved that!

A cute picture book all about animals at the zoo(m). Poor sloth is so slow that he can't find anyone to hang out with him at his speed! It's nice that the reader learns some facts about sloths!

Sloth at the Zoom humorously stresses the importance of s-l-o-w-i-n-g down in this super-charged world that we live in!

Zoom is a zoo filled with, well, zoom-y animals. When Sloth arrives, she doesn’t quite fit in with the high-flying monkeys, speedy cheetahs, or rushing zebras (who gallop so quickly that their stripes get left behind in puddles!). But that doesn’t stop her from being her own sloth-y self. Luckily, she finds a slow-moving friend who knows about the joy of being in the present moment. The other animals are intrigued by the two friends’ relaxed demeanors and join in, where they all become fast friends.

Sloth at the Zoom is a fantastic read aloud for 2nd-3rd graders. Highly recommended!

After a mix-up in which Sloth gets delivered to the Zoom instead of the Zzzzzzzoo, Sloth must learn how to make friends with a group of animals that seem to be completely different from her. When she meets snail, that all changes.

This was cute and the character voices would make for a great read aloud. The takeaway message was about slowly down and enjoying life, but I would have liked the themes to focus a bit more on the friendships of the story. Overall, a very cute read.

The Zoom is like a zoo, but everything moves at top speed and has no time to stop and relax, that is until the sloth shows up. I love the way this book is written with speech bubbles. When the sloth talks, his sentence is broken up into several bubbles because he is so slow. The illustrations are wonderful showing movement and characteristics of some of the animals. When sloth wants to make a friend, the only thing that is slow enough for him is the snail, that is until the other animals realize they are missing out on something. A simple message of slowing down and enjoying the small things and especially your friends. A cute way to share this message. A great book for a home, classroom, school or public library. Thanks to Owlkids Books for generously providing me with a copy of this book to read. 4.5 Stars

The illustrations are great! A sweet book in which a boy goes to the Zoom. This place is like a zoo, yet faster paced. It is arrival day for a new animal - the sloth. It seems as if the other animals are just too busy (or too fast) to make friends with the sloth. The sloth finds friendship with a snail. Soon, the other animals join in and learn to relax and enjoy life, too.

A cute read with a message for us all.

Thanks to Owlkids Books and NetGalley for a gem of a read!

Such a lovely story. A Sloth thought she was heading to the Zzzzoo and instead ended up at the Zoom. A zoo for very fast animals. At first the sloth had a hard time fitting in. But all it takes is one friend to start a posse. A fun story with lovely illustrations.

SLOTH AT THE ZOOM is a sweet, lovely story about my one of my favorite animals. Such a cute story with equally cute illustrations. Love this so much and can't wait to buy it for my classroom.

Everyone loves sloths! I loved this sweet book about a sloth joining a Zoom, which is like a zoo, but faster. This would be a fantastic read-aloud for preschool and early elementary aged children. Lots to do with this book-animal noises, opposites (fast vs. slow), and the colored pencil illustrations are adorable. Definitely a must buy for our library!

This delightful book will have both young and old reflecting on their own life-style. A sloth is delivered to the Zoom and not to the Zzzzzoo where she was intended to be taken.

Once planted she discovers that every animal there is in a hurry and doesn't have time to engage with each other... barely time for a short greeting... them off they zoom again.

“The monkeys climbed so fast they forgot to stop at the treetops. / And the parrots flew so fast their tails drew rainbows across the sky.

Resigning herself to a life of loneliness and despair Sloth sighs...

"No one here has any time."

To her utter amazement (and joy) a tiny voice agrees with her. Now who has the time to listen and respond to her lament? A Snail takes it upon itself to invite Sloth to share a snack and spend some time together. Sloth is overjoyed at the prospect of spending quality time together and perhaps (claws crossed) finding a friend in this fast-paced environment.

Hallelujah!!!! They are a match made in heaven and soon the other hurried and harried animals take note and want to join in on their peaceful and calm time-out sessions.

The illustrations are very well done and make the text come alive. The Sloth is a very endearing character. The message of the book is positive and necessary in today's busy world. All of us, both young and old get bogged down with the fast pace of life and we must remind ourselves what is important and take the time to stop and smell the roses as the old saying goes. I highly recommend this inspiring book.

This is such a sweet book with an important message for our youngest. Sloths are pretty "cool" right now, and to see one so happy in its S l o w approach to life is refreshing. Hopefully the message won't be lost on those that are reading the book to a child in their life. The illustrations are bright and cheery and add to the sloth's contentment and acceptance of where he is.

Oh man, this would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the Iced Tea! Lol. It was such a cute story until my son asked why'd they have cups with straws. I told him to suspend his disbelief for a moment longer (I mean, talking animals, come on) but even I agreed it could have been any array of other more likely choices. Illustrations were adorable.

My daughters and I read this book aloud. This is such a cute and funny story. It’s a story about a sloth being sent to the fast-paced Zoom instead of the laid back slow-paced Zzzzzoo. Although the sloth isn’t in her comfort zone being at the Zoom, she seeks friendships. However, no one will stop to befriend her because the other animals are moving too fast and they are just too busy. Then she finally meets a snail that is at her speed.... It’s a sweet story. I think this book can be a fun way to teach children or act as a reminder to busy adults that we all can slow down & enjoy life.

It was hilarious when my daughters decided to read the dialog between sloth & snail aloud very sloooooowly. This is an easy to read & beautifully illustrated picture book. We had so much fun reading it aloud.

I received access to this title's eBook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There is an adorable story here about slowing down and appreciating the quiet things in life, and I hope the little ones who read it will appreciate it. Also -- I LOVE SLOTHS. Can we see more sloths in kids' books?
