This book was inspired by Anne of Green Gables and it follows Anne as she says goodnight to her world, before going to sleep. I read this after Anne Arrives, and honestly when I first saw the cover I thought ‘I am not going to like these illustrations as much as Anne Arrives.” Then I opened the story and fell inside, these illustrations flow with Anne’s imagination beautifully.

I was so excited when I saw this one, because I love Genevieve Godbout’s vintage illustration style (seen in books like The Pink Umbrella and When Santa Was a Baby) and Anne Shirley is my favorite fictional character! I thought her illustrations for this book were beautiful and I just want to hang prints of them around my house.

The sweet text with only a line or two per page makes this a great book to read aloud for a range of ages. There have been many different variations of picture books where the character says goodnight to everything, but I think that concept is ideal for this story. Anne is a character you know would want a chance to say an enthusiastic goodnight to everyone and everything she loves before she goes to sleep.

This would be a great book to read over and over again and one that I would love to have in my home library.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kallie George for allowing me to read and review Goodnight, Anne. This book is gorgeous! I love the illustrations. They're the perfect accompaniment to the text. I showed my daughters (4 and 7) and they thought the book was beautiful as well. Well done!

GOODNIGHT, ANNE is a lovely, heartwarming read-aloud picture book for younger readers. Inspired by ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, it offers a delightful introduction to literature’s beloved Anne, sure to win over brand-new fans and lifelong readers alike. 5/5

I received a free copy from NetGalley. Thanks!

I've just got to say: The illustrations in this were GORGEOUS. I loved the whimsical, magical way the pictures accompanied the text. Sometimes I felt like the text itself might be lifted a little too much from the original books (it seemed to follow a pattern of: "Goodnight, [object/person]. [near direct quote from book]" on each page). But I think that's not really a con if you're a big fan of the books or shows. Worth the read if only for the illustrations, though. :)

Fans of Anne of Green Gables will love this book for their little ones. George's simple goodnight story captures the spirit of the original by Montgomery. The illustrations are well suited for the story. This is a sweet and peaceful story perfect for bedtime.

The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful. My six year daughter loved them and we have read this story every single nice since receiving it.

This charming book is right up there with "Good Night Moon," and destined to be a classic. It is a perfect bedtime story. Our favourite red-headed chatterbox, Anne Shirley, declares she is unable to go to bed until she says goodnight to everyone that she loves.

She checks off all her beloved friends and family members and gives the reader a sneak peek of those she holds most dear to her heart. She includes: Matthew and Marilla her new family members, Diana her best friend and kindred spirit, Miss Stacy her teacher that she utterly adores, Gilbert the boy who gives her grief at school and called her Carrots, her beautiful Lake of Shining Waters that is forever smiling at her, and tranquil Green Gables, her home that to her is the dearest and loviest spot in the world, just to name a few.

This charming book is a salute and a celebration of the spirit of Anne of Green Gables and a perfect introduction to Canadian author L.M. Montgomery's famous 8-book series, the first one written in 1908 for all ages. A whole new generation will be inspired to seek out her books and enjoy them as so many others have all around the world. The illustrations are beautiful and rich and draw you into the story. I highly, highly recommend this book.

The Anne spirit of this book makes my heart swell. In true Anne fashion, Anne says goodnight to everything and everyone she loves while Marilla attempts to keep her focused. The goodnights are reminiscent of everything that Anne finds beautiful about each person, plant, or place. Anne's kind goodness (and spunk) are evident as she wishes well to her beloveds.

And the illustrations, well, I want them all hanging on my walls. What a gorgeous book!! I don't have kids or many little people in my life yet I'm tempted to buy this book for myself. I would highly recommend "Goodnight, Anne"!!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A whimsical and beautiful story for children. It is not an adaptation but fans and readers of Anne of Green Gables will get the references, and it may intrigue younger readers to read Anne later. A great follow up might be Anne Arrives by Kallie George if the young reader is not quite ready for L.M. Montgomery's novel.

Written in the style of many "Goodnight..." books, it's sweet and lovely.

Thank you to #NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance e-copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Another wonderful adaptation of Anne of Green Gables for the youngest children. A precious picture book went through the life of Anne in a simple good night rhythm. Perfect for the young toddler children whose family loved Anne of Green Gables.

I have a particular fondness for Anne of Green Gables; that series is dear to me and I anticipate when I will introduce those books to my daughters. Goodnight, Anne, a short bedtime story with pleasing illustrations, is the sort of book I could read with them now to whet their interest.

The illustrations are delightful, and the story has Anne preparing for bed by naming various friends and wishing them well...mostly (Gilbert is mentioned unfavorably, as we see the illustration of him tugging Anne's braids).

Her greetings are not limited to humans; after all, her plant and tree have also captured her heart and imagination. I see the attraction of this book being for parents who are fans of the Anne of Green Gables series; they can begin reading this when their children are young, and then graduate to the new early-reader series or the familiar classics as time and ability allow. Children won't know the full back story of Anne's relationships with the various characters from this book, but they can be attracted by Anne's imagination and the darling illustrations.

This Anne adoption is really just a good night book, that introduces the characters in Anne's life.

As goodnight books go, it is well done, including the end papers, with the floral wall paper design.

And of course the drawings of Matthew

and of Marilla.

One reviewer said it reminded them of "Good night moon" and I agree that it is more like that then the Anne

In this charming picture book, our beloved Anne Shirley says goodnight to everyone and everything she loves, as only Anne can. I read about Geneviève Godbout’s illustrations in this month’s issue of Quill & Quire, and thought Allison, you must get your hands on this book! Not only are the illustrations exquisite, but Kallie George has perfectly captured Anne’s spirit. This book is the perfect way to introduce young children to Canada’s favourite redhead! Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC. I loved it!

This was a really cute book but transferring it to an ebook was horrible. It was not super hard to read in ebook form but it was just confusing and not put out well. I did enjoy the book though. I thought it was a cute spin of Anne of Green Gables. The illustrations were extremely beautiful as well! Seems like this would be a great book to read to your kids at night before bed.

I wanted to love this book because I love the Anne of Green Gables books and the movies. The story is like a young version of the book mixed with the format of Goodnight Moon. The text was not quite as whimsical as I hoped it would be, but the wonderful illustrations made up for that.

This artwork is so delicate & precious. Ann with an "e" would love it ❤️

I can picture purchasing this book when complete for my best friend's little girl to cherish!

This children's book is perfect to get little ones intrested in Anne of Green Gables. The phrases are short and repetitive which are perfect for children that are learning to read. The art work is consistent with the story and helps support the imagination of developing readers. The story is also short enough to hold the intrest of small children. Well done!

This was a really sweet Anne of Green Gables inspired picture book along the lines of Goodnight Moon. A great way to share the love of Anne with a younger child.

In a lovely bedtime story similar to the classic Goodnight Moon, this tale inspired by Anne of Green Gables follows Anne's routine with Marilla of saying goodnight to everyone she loves before bedtime. Classic characters like Matthew, Gilbert, and even nosy Mrs. Lynde are mentioned and of course the special places of Green Gables, Avonlea, and the Island. The beautiful illustrations are a lovely addition to this charming story that will capture the hearts of everyone who grew up with "Anne with an e" and introduce her to a new generation of readers!
