This is another of those unreliable narrator thrillers with a twist that are all the rage these days, but this one sets itself apart with a really solid narrative, backed by equally strong writing.

Her One Mistake was a quick read, but there were a lot of little nuances tucked in throughout the story. I didn't realize how clever they were until the big reveal. The misdirection incorporated into the plot caused just enough self-doubt that I didn't figure out the twist beforehand, but I was really pleased when the turning point came.

The story is told alternatively through the eyes of Charlotte and Harriet. I thought Charlotte and Harriet were good foils for one another and I found it particularly interesting to observe the blind spots they each had when it came to the details of each other woman's life.

I would recommend this title to those of you who enjoy domestic thrillers that keep you on your toes.

I received an ARC of Her One Mistake from Gallery Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Expected date of publication is January 8, 2019.

Wow! Charlotte Reynolds takes her kids plus her friend Harriets daughter to the school carnival. Harriet has never left her 4 year old daughter Alice with anyone. When Alice disappears at the carnival whispers start. People wonder, was Charlotte careless? Her kids came home safely. Finger pointing and blame starts. Harriet is devastated.

This is a cant put down book. It is a twisted, compelling story that will keep you guessing.. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Charlotte is surprised that Harriet is finally letting her four-year old, Alice, out of her sight for the first time and allowing Charlotte to take Alice and her own three kids to a fair at the school.

When Alice doesn't come out of the Jungle Run Bouncy, Charlotte doesn't understand. She took her eyes off of her kids for seconds. And now Alice is gone. Charlotte is being shunned, Harriet won't speak to her and the police are hounding her as well.

Harriet comes off as a fragile and tightly wound woman. Someone who doubts their own sanity even. Her husband is an odd fellow and it looks as if he is manipulating everything she does or says and where she goes.

But is Harriet weak? Is she crazy? Does Charlotte know more than she is saying?

This is every parent's worst nightmare. A missing child.

In this age of social media and people always checking their phones, this should be a wake up call! At first I wasn't fond of Harriet but as the book went on my opinion of her changed. After all, how far will you go to protect your child?

I did not see that ending coming! The author has taken the biggest fear for parents and turned it in to a thriller of story!

Well Done!

Charlotte finally convinces Harriet to leave Alice in her care. She takes Alice and her own kids to the school fair for a fun day. Charlotte send the kids off to the Jungle Run as she stops to check her Facebook. When she looks up again she realizes that she lost Alice and panic ensues.
This story about a missing child has several twists and turns that keeps you guessing. Nothing is what it seems in this book. It moves at a quick pace and is reminiscent of Liane Moriarty's Big Little Lies.
I enjoyed this greatly. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.

This book was a really intriguing mystery/ with an exta twist I did find it slow reading, but I definitely needed to continue to the end.
Very enjoyable and engaging.

Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks is an emotional thriller that will definitely take you on a ride.

Of course what I do love about thrillers is that it's always darkness that will unfold at the seams once you begin the story. Heidi lays the groundwork nicely for her readers and has a nice little twist in this one that will keep you reading.

Harriet has never been separated from her four year old daughter Alice since she gave birth to her. One day Harriet's best friend Charlotte offers to take Alice to the fair along with her three other children. Charlotte takes all four children to the fair and they begin to play. The children decide to go on a ride... and shortly after Charlotte sees her own children return but there is no sign of Alice. Charlotte is devastated as you can imagine that she lost her best friend's daughter. Talk about guilt... WOW.

I think I felt for Charlotte the most because she had to deal with the aftermath of being shunned by the entire town and the stigma associated with loosing someone else's daughter.

Of course... nothing is what is appears to be in this story. Harriet is devastated trying to find her daughter... also is dealing with the blaming of her husband Brian.

The story was pretty slow to build for me and was pretty bored on and off throughout the entire story. But, a twist happens about 50 percent in and I wasn't expecting that.

But, the story STILL was dragging for me. And.. the ending seemed to be rushed to me... I'm not sure where the author was going at the final end? Honestly in the last chapter... I was holding on to a final grasp of a twist... and it just ended?

I wouldn't categorize this as a dark thriller... at all? Maybe... more of a domestic emotional story.

Overall, this was a decent story and was entertained. I look forward to seeing what Perks comes up with next :).

3.5 stars rounded down on this one.

Huge thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Publishing for the advanced arc in exchange for my honest review.

I haven’t read Heidi Perks other book, however, after reading Now You See Her I plan to check it out. Now I’ll be honest, I’m getting a bit tired of every thriller or suspense being labeled as a “gripping thriller” or “unputdownable,” but Her One Mistake was unputdownable!! I read this entire book in two sittings, on the last day I started out at 35% but couldn’t stop reading until I was finished. It really was a compulsive read!! I was pleased with Ms. Perks writing style and descriptions. She really drew out that parental fear. The storytelling was creative and I felt like I was being giving puzzle pieces one at a time. It was a gradual process that I really enjoyed.

Now set the scene... you’re at a school sponsored event and you have 4 kids, a throbbing headache, it’s hot, there’s tons of people especially excited and happy kids bouncing and just plain running amok. You just want to sit down and catch your breath, take a couple Tylenol, and rest your overstimulated mind. You see your kids laughing and running through a bouncy house but where’s quite little Alice?! Panic doesn’t kick in immediately but Alice isn’t your child and she isn’t one to wonder. Queue the hysterics and total panic! It’s bad enough to loose your child but to lose someone else’s child is just beyond horrible, almost monstrous!! Can you even imagine?!?

Ms. Perks does a great job of really projecting both sides. Then these parents lives all start to unravel. It’s fascinating to see all the pieces starting to fall into place. The little morsels of info that Ms. Perks feeds us is enough to keep the reader intrigued and horrifically fascinated! It’s the train-wreck passerby’s can’t look away from. Now You See Her started out a bit slower and really it didn’t start to feel compulsive until about 25%ish. I kept reading this book and thinking back to the old saying that only two can keep a secret if one is dead. This is an interesting storyline with just a nightmareish plot for any parent out there!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

The worse nightmare imaginable... losing someone else's child. But all is not as it seems - great character development and some unforeseen twists make this highly recommendable.

What should have been a fun-filled, carefree day takes a tragic turn for the worse for one mother when her best friend’s child goes missing in this suspenseful, compulsively readable, and darkly twisted psychological thriller.

The way the author described Charlotte’s experience when she lost her best friend’s daughter throughout the book, including the investigation, felt so real.
The book switches between Charlotte and the Moms (Harriet) experience.
This was a heart wrenching story that could be anyone’s nightmare!

Great read that kept me guessing until the very end. Would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery, suspense or thriller.

I almost stopped reading it. Story was somewhat confusing and almost gothic but I kept going. As the plot unfolds is got more into it and was hooked. I figured some of it as it went on but not all. It was an interesting read and in the end I enjoyed it. Wonder why it’s an English book but spelling was American? I’m used to reading British books in their style.

I enjoyed this book very much. In fact, I read it in one day. It’s very fast moving with believable characters and plot twists.

Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks is a gripping thriller that covers every parents worse nightmare, a child gone in the blink of an eye. The author has given this a bit of a twist though with it being a friend taking care of the little girl when she goes missing.

Harriet had never been separated from her four year old daughter Alice since she had been born. Other mothers use babysitters, friends or family quite often to get even a small break but Harriet was a stay at home mother who hadn’t trusted anyone with her precious daughter until now.

Charlotte is Harriet’s best friend and about as opposite as can be. With three children of her own Charlotte volunteers to take Alice with them to the school fair so Harriet can take a class that afternoon. With four kids in tow Charlotte heads to the fair where the children begin to play but when her own children return from a ride without Alice Charlotte is devastated when there is no sign of the child.

Her One Mistake is one of those books that really was thought provoking. We are a society of placing blame on victims and as much as anyone disagrees with Charlotte’s actions in the beginning of this she is still a victim having to live with what happened. And then there’s Harriet who your heart can’t help but break for as the emotional side of the book begins to stand out. But of course as with any good thriller there are plenty of twists and turns to keep a reader guessing until the last page. Definitely one that kept me on the edge of my seat and would recommend.

Wow. This was a very enjoyable read. Totally hooked from the very beginning, it was nearly impossible to put this book down. Like all good psychological thrillers, you may think you've got it all figured out and then BAM! Another twist that throws you off and keeps you compulsively turning the pages.

Definitely pick up Her One Mistake if you're looking for a thriller that leaves you guessing and is hard to put down.

Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks is a breathtaking and gripping read. It’s a mother’s worst nightmare laid out in a book! The characters have structure and the plot is pretty thick, this is a fast paced psychological thriller that holds your interest throughout.

Her One Mistake
By
Heidi Perks

What it's all about...

Charlotte takes her three children and her friend Harriet’s daughter...Alice...to the school fair. It’s a big deal for Harriet because she has never let Alice out of her sight ever before. Charlotte loses sight of Alice for a minute and she disappears.

Why I wanted to read it...

This book was a page turner from the very first page. Alternating between Charlotte’s life and Harriet’s life...two very different women who become close friends.

What made me truly enjoy this book...

OMG...there were so many layers and secrets and lies in this book. It reminded me of the book Best Day Ever!

Why you should read it, too...

Readers who love psychological mysteries will love this book! The characters, the writing, the plot...were intense! I loved it!

I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, Edelweiss and Amazon. It was my choice to read it and review it.

Her One Mistake is told from two women's point of view. Charlotte and Harriet. In a suspenseful tale of a child abduction, we wonder, how did Alice disappear without a trace from a playground. Both women blame themselves and as the story unfolds we realize nothing is as it seems. Thank you, Netgalley.

Her One Mistake is a quick read, and will likely have readers guessing until near the end – oh, OK maybe halfway through. I am notoriously bad at figuring things out, so I am not judge here, but I did enjoy this and thank Gallery Books and NetGalley for a copy in return for this honest review.

The protagonist, Charlotte, takes her two kids and her friend Harriet’s daughter to the school fair, and took her eyes off them briefly (was she on Facebook at the time??) When her kids return from the bounce house, the neighbor’s kid isn’t there, and has vanished.

Charlotte frantically searches everywhere, then has to tell Harriet she lost her daughter and feels responsible (duh – she was).

Harriet can’t bear to see Charlotte again, until the police start to press BOTH women, and then the dark secrets start to come out. Good plotting, not sure the ending will satisfy everyone (but they really never do), and I give it a hearty four stars.

Was't quite sure what to expect, and it is a deep story. I can't imagine anting worse than feeling that you have utterly betrayed your best friend in the worst way imaginable. The guilt and horror, the vocal and silent accusations of other supposed friends compounds the misery.

Sure, I will watch the kids turns into a nightmare. But not the nightmare you would expect, but one of a very different nature, for all involved. It can be so awfully hard to admit things because we feel it will make us look bad, but the ways to avoid telling can make us look worse.

This is another book about a friendship that has gone awry and the repercussions of deadly secrets.
More psychology than action and the story wraps up pretty quickly.
