3.5 stars- I picked up this novella in hopes for something a bit different and Chance certainly offered that. A shorter read that covered a lot of action and story in a relatively brief period, Chance detailed the exciting, peculiar events of what started out as another ordinary day for risk analyzer, Daniel, and courier, Nathan.

I’m always wary about complex plots in a novella, but Chance included sufficient details to keep me satisfied and engaged. Additionally, the author highlighted Daniel’s character enough at the start so the reader can appreciate how out of his comfort zone he was as the events that would change his outlook and life unfolded. This change provided a nice character arc that left me hopeful for a bit more by the end. I also liked that the idea of “chance” ran throughout the novella- appearing in multiple scenarios and with multiple characters- tying the theme together nicely and making for an interesting read. The writing itself was solid, the characters interesting, and the pacing kept the speed and excitement rolling. Unfortunately, the shortened timeline meant too much story happened in too few pages- especially as the book concluded- and the character and relationship development suffered a bit. That said, Chance is the first of a series so I’m hopeful we get more time with Daniel and Nathan and the opportunity to see their story play out, especially in the romance area. If you’re in a mood for a quick, action-packed read with the promise of more to come, I’d recommend giving this title a try.

Smart, witty, shockingly entertaining. A short, quick read full of high octane fun.

Daniel is a risk analyst at an insurance company. He lives a life of rigid schedule. It could be called robotic if not for the occasional pang of loneliness.

Nathan is a college student working through school as a parcel delivery man.

Neither lead very exciting lives until they accidentally run into each other and into an unforseen situation that sets them on the run from men determined to catch them.

Let the fun begin...

Fantastic story. Great MCs. Even greater secondary characters. So much fun!

I definitely recommend this one for a few short hours of perfect escapism.

I received this book as an ARC thanks to Net Galley and Nine Star Press!
chance was an intense fast-paced thrilling ride of a story with a suddenly sweet love story!
Chance is the story of Daniel a tightly wound man with a strictly scheduled life that he loves to live by. That is until the day that he runs into Nathan and the race is on from there in this story of chases intrigue and Chance and how all of those things can change a life in ways one would never have imagined! not only did I love Daniel and Nathan but the side characters of Cordelia and Mildred were so much fun! I mean a little old lady who is an ex-commando with a kevlar purse that she just happens to carry grenades in? Yes, please! I laughed I gasped I was on the edge of my seat and raced through this story in a few short hours! Another great read from Nine Star Press!

This is part 1 of a series, a short read, and a kind of hurried read through events taking place back to back without taking breathers. I wish I could say it was a fun read but for me it wasn't. The writing was good, that's not my complaint: after a good start with learning to know the main character, Daniel, who seems a quite interesting guy, it turned into something else when Daniel met Nathan, a chance encounter. Here the book changed to something like "fairy tale gone Avenger". Daniel had detailed dreams and visions that would need quite a while to form but he had that all during the mere second when he literally ran into a stranger by leaving a subway train, and after he decided to step back into this train it all turned into a series of heroic but unrealistic events that reminded me on a comic book. Maybe that's the intention after all, so I leave it with saying that this wasn't the book for me.
