Absolutely loved this book! This a must read for those with small children. My boys (8,6,3) all laughed at the simple story. I will purchase this book upon its release! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |

An absolutely lovely story of farm animals who decide someone else's life looks a little better! It all starts with the cow and finally ends at the farmer's knee with surprising results. The illustrations were colorful and the rhyming storyline fun. This picture book will appeal to the toddler set as well as whoever reads to them. Thank you to Net Galley , the author and publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

Fans of country music may recognize this author— Rory Feek is half of the country duo Joey+Rory! In The Cow Said Neigh!: A Farm Story, his debut children’s book, Feek makes the most of his songwriting skills, as the rhyme and rhythm flow naturally, making this a delight to read aloud. Readers may not be surprised to hear that Feek lives on a farm with his four-year-old daughter… He seems to understand delights of farm life as well as what would make toddlers and preschoolers laugh! In The Cow Said Neigh!: A Farm Story, Feek’s words are paired with colorful illustrations by Bruno Robert to tell a “grass is greener” story of animals on a farm. One by one, each animal looks around and identifies something about its life that would be better if it were another animal. The animal sounds get all mixed up, making this a delightful tongue-twisting introduction to onomatopoeia and animal sounds. Publishers target this book at preschoolers through third graders, but I think younger toddlers through kindergarteners are going to love it! NetGalley and the publishers provided me with an e-ARC, in exchange for an honest review. Releases from #tommynelson (an imprint of Thomas Nelson) on October 2, 2018. #TheCowSaidNeigh!(pictureBook) #NetGalley @roryfeek |
Farm animals making the wrong sounds always give preschoolers a hoot. This one uses rhyming to move the story along. Cute read. |
Cute little book for young pre-schoolers (0-2 years of age). Each animal sees the benefits of the other animals and wishes to be like them. Lots of opportunity to work on farm animal noises with young ones. |

I loved this rhyming circular tale and can’t wait to add it to my elementary school library collection. Just the right amount of heartwarming silliness. My own kindergartener approves wholeheartedly! |

Toddlers and young preschoolers will find the mixed up animal sounds hilarious. Feek's song-writing background comes out in a consistent rhythm and rhymes that aren't forced. My only complaint: I wish the pictures, which are fine, were more original; there's nothing that makes them stand out. Review based on an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley. |
A delightfully illustrated book about all the animals on the farm that want to be like each other. Preschool and kindergarten alike will love that the animals are all saying the wrong sounds. A fun read with great rhyming. Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for the advance copy. |

The Cow Said Neigh is a cute twist on an animal sounds book. We travel around the farmyard meeting animal after animal but they aren't saying what they are supposed to! Each one wonders what it would be like to be a different animal and imitates that animals sounds. This would be a fun read aloud that will definitely illicit giggles from young readers. I do wish a little more thought had been put into Duck though, he doesn't really have a reason why he wants to be a sheep and simply says "That would be good." |
This book is ADORABLE! Children will have so much fun saying the animal sounds and will get a good laugh that the wrong animal is making the sound. Not necessarily a good book to teach animal sounds with since they'd be associated with the wrong animal, but a good book for children old enough to know which animal makes which sound. The illustrations are gorgeous in this book. It is a very cute storyline, carrying with it the lesson that we all want what we can't have, and so should appreciate what we do have. |
Silly, simple, and delightful, I can practically already hear the laughs this quick read will get at story times! |
It's a very cute story about a group of farm animals who are very confused. They are imitate another animal and confuse the farmer. The illustrations are the best part of this story. There's not much substance to the book and no real lesson to learn. This book is perfect for the younger kids as they will love reading about the animals making sounds they shouldn't be making. |
The Cow Said Neigh is a cute story of farm animals that imagine what it would be like to be a neighboring farm animal. It begins with a cow looking from the barn, watching the horse in the pasture, and imagining what it would be like to be the horse and run wild and free. He then lets out a neigh. The fun moves throughout the farm, as you meet all the animals on the farm and eventually meet the farmer. The illustrations are beautiful! My daughter loved this book! I would definitely purchase this as a gift.
This would be a cute preschool story board or game of matching the sounds to the proper farm animal.
The Cow Said Neigh was written by Rory Feek of the country music duo Joey+Rory and the book is dedicated to their daughter, Indiana.

Full review on Goodreads. It was a simple text with rhyme and cute illustrations, but I did not see anything very appealing or fun in the story. It is not a book that would stand out on my child's shelf. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing to wow me. |
This is a fun little picture book that will be a real hit with kids who love silly rhyming stories. We start out with a cow who thinks the horse lives in greener pastures, so decides to try on the horse's voice. Then the horse sees a duck, and the duck sees a sheep, and so it continues as we check in on the various animals you'd expect to find on a farm. The playful rhymes follow a good pattern and I know a few kids who would love yelling out the animal noises at the right times. The illustrations are amusing and this would be a fun little read for preschoolers. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S for providing me with a DRC of this book. |

Really cute picture book. Great illustrations showing the animals around the farm, and the rhyming story tells how each animal admires and wishes for a trait one of the others has. Could be very fun to read aloud and do different voices for the animals, and I think both the story and the illustrations will engage children well. |

This was a cute children's book. My kids enjoyed the story. They liked the rhyming and the pictures of the book. I enjoyed the rhythm of the story when reading it. I felt like the story ended too abruptly. I was looking for the farmer to redirect the animals to be themselves and realize that their lives were better than the animal they were pretending to be. I think that the message that comes across is that it's okay to pretend to be somebody else and not be content with who we are. Overall, the pictures added to the story and the lyrical words were enjoyable. |
From New York Times bestseller Rory Feek, one half of the singing duo Joey+Rory, comes this delightful book. It's full of fun, energy and.... confusion. You see each farm animal looks at another and wishes they were just the same.... magically their sounds become just like the ones that they covet. Oh my! Farmyard mayhem ensues! The cow wants freedom to gallop around just like the horse, the sheep wants an awesome snout to dig in the mud like the pig, the family dog wants to be inside the house like the cat, and the cat wants adventures and places to go just like her human, just to name a few. Kids will have fun sorting out the animal sounds while enjoying the fun rhyming and adorable illustrations. I just wish there had been a wrap up at the end with everyone agreeing that they are perfect just the way they are. It would have been a lovely ending to celebrate uniqueness. The flip side could be at the end the farmsteaders ( I think I just made up the word) were celebrating diversity which is a great message too. Whatever your take away I know kids (and adults too) will love this hilarious story. |
